[Q] Market search problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I search for a word, for example 'launcher' it says it found like 3000 results but it is only showing like 20 of them. How do i fix this? Market version 3.1.5

I am experiencing exactly the same issue and would appreciate any information.

bumpbump..

Bump again

I think that even though market found a billion results out only shows that ones fir your county and for your phone.
Kinda sucks that we see so little of what we might.
Then again I could be very wrong.

Anyone else?

same problem here and after getting market update i can no longer find a list of my purchased items and cant remember the names of everything i have paid for to go looking for it either :-(

well recently ive been getting a lot of calls from people i dont recognize, some i recognize but others i cant honestly say....and usually that wouldnt be a big deal but they call me 4 or 5 times, and i dont want to pick up if it snt someone i know but if there calling me 4 times it could be important....for example, yesterday i was called 4 times by a number i didnt recognize, and the best i could do is google the area code, and it came up as california, but i live in new york....

I don't use app for this kind of concern, I consider using website like searchphonenumber(dot)website where I can get the result quickly.

Issue [SOLVED] > market > search results found doesn't equal search results shown.

Issue [SOLVED] > market > search results found doesn't equal search results shown.
Hello fellow's
Have you guys noticed that since the new android market came upon us, that there is troublesome to not say impossible to find some applications using the search function.
For instance, if I search "mario"; I will have 3 apps showing. All though the top bar says it found over 2000 results. Nevertheless I would not be able to download or even have these results displayed for me.
It's probably worth mentioning that I'm not the only one that having this issue. I've noticed that ALL phones have the same issue as I do. Some of these different phones have custom kernels and custom roms, but not all. So there's no need for searching error in roms, phones, etc.
I have successfully uninstalled NEW Android Market from my phone and restored the OLD android market.
It works just fine as it displays all search results that are found.
Yet the problem remains since google has arranged a silence update of market. Within 30 minutes I have the new market once again installed.
* Is there any solution?
* If not, is it possible to turn off silent updates?

Me too i have problem with market from XDAndroid it doesen't show all application : /
My guess is that everyone are having the same experience. Although I don't think too many are aware of this, rather major, bug.
To clarify for those who still doesn't have a clue of what I'm talking about:
Pay attention to the top bar where the search hits are stated. Remember this number of found apps. Compare this to how many apps you REALLY are shown. Shouldn't be too many scrolls until you reach rock bottom. XD
Also.. Let us try to exclude that this hasn't got anything to do with any regional restrictions of any kind, by stating our nationality, carrier, brand of phones/tablets, custom/stock rom and the current status of the search function in android market, at the beginning of our first posts in this thread. I'll probably be first one out to do this.
For all your convenience; just copy/paste the template below:

When you do a search in the new market only a few apps show.
You have to tap on the bar that tell you how many apps found and the rest will show.
Dosen't work with XDAndroid (i have HTC Topaz with FRX07.1 last kernel, rootfs)

I wish it would be that easy.
I don't mean to be rude in no way. But have you even tried that yourself?
My experience says that's bogus. If it would be pushable then probably it would look more like a button or clickable link, wouldn't it?
200.000.000.000$ Google inc. Should atleast provide hints on how to get all apps to show. Besides the billions; Google is the world largest internet search provider. It would be a great FAIL by Google if this isn't a big bug.
Nevertheless, button or not, the tapping trick will not do it. I've tried that on atleast 8 phones, different brand, different roms, different kernels. It just makes me feel stupid, tapping like a freak on my friends phones.
If you still claims that tapping is the trick. Then I would like you to take screenshots of it.
Please search for "Mario" and post screenshots of new market showing more than 5 results of Mario.
And if it is true that tapping is the way to go. Then we've probably have got ourselves a regional issue.
Also... Please provide information about your country, phone, rom, etc, etc,
The End.

Simple solution: go to online market to search and download the apps you need.
So simple!

Same problem.
Only just noticed it now. Thought it was my phone as google searches would not yield any results for me on the problem, probably due to wrong wording mind. I'm on stock Motorola atrix 2.2 UK rom with newish market update.
What a major oversight by google, surely they should have fixed this by now.
I do a search for music and the grey bar says there are 25978 results I click on the tab arrow to display what I assume will be the 25978 app results. I get 20 apps, that's it? Everyone here who has actually noticed still having this issue I take it?
I have this issue too. Was trying to search for "Handcent" but it returns only 2 results, neither are the actual app.

Agree, I touch there, it shows 3 hits, and 1311 results along the top:
See imageshack.us/photo/my-images/853/sc20111028081055.png/
Sorry I don't have enough posts yet to include the link.
The issue is that you can not touch and open the additional 1311 results.
easy fix for market.
Use any apparently that will freeze apks. Freeze market upgrader. Then uninstall market updates in manage applications. Once you uninstalled the update, you'll be back on the old market until you unfreeze the market updater. Hope this helps.
Even though I'm not rooted I have had that happen to me as well. Another problem I have is getting stuck in download loops. The only fix is to reboot my phone.

If you can't get the app you want, than that's a real issue. You could search for it on you PC on the android market and then install from there to you phone.

That was exactly what I was hoping for. How to disable that stupid silent update of google.
That really did the trick!
I can't understand how I possible could have missed that obvious application; "Market Updater.apk", when going through system apps over and over again, looking for the damn silent updater application.
I greatly appreciate your help. I was about to surrender to Google's ignorance and become one of it's stupidity.
Again, thank you for taking your time helping.

How to you prevent google play upgrade?

I have the apk for the 3.4.4 market. I froze the market updater but when I install the Market apk within 5 minutes it updates to play. Is there a way to prevent the upgrade?
What's the big deal with preventing the update? Looks like exactly the same market with a name change to me. Just wondering what I'm missing and in no way trying to be a jerk.

You dont want to stop the update because if you do, you will not be able to get apps or update current apps with the old market.
Anything else that relies on the newer market will fail as well. I doubt you could stop it anyway..
Install an older version of the Market and use Titanium Backup to freeze the Market Updater...but there's no good reason to not update.
The new market is great! LOL, it is pretty much the same. The only difference if you have a tablet and that allowed you to purches music through the app. Again looks pretty much the same. New name

personally the name change is annoying as all hell, google quit trying to program your brand name in my brain, when i want to buy and app or something i want to go to the market or to the store, not go to the google and pick up a new app.
every-time i'm in a rush trying to pull something from the app market i can't find the bloody icon because i'm looking for the market or in the old location on my app drawer, minor change i know but i have caught myself cussing at google when i needed to re-d/l my gps app after it crashed during a trip i as on a few days ago.
any chance of renaming the new app back to market without root?
Just use a launcher and if already do, just change the name duh..lol that's what I did ....

I also would like to learn how to get around using Play. The new terms seem to allow Google to read my sms messages and record the message routing. I don't think my correspondents would appreciate having their thoughts being part of Google's repertoire.

What conspiracy theorist cooked that up?
The only way to get around using Google Play is to not use android. What you're asking is the equivalent of saying you want to use an iDevice without the app store.

Memory needs > any update
I have a very good reason for not wanting auto-upgrades. Radio Shack misled me about the HTC Wildfire S and now I've got jack for memory. I have four apps installed, use only the native message app, and I'm lucky to have 25mb free. Anything less than that and the phone works as well as the Pony Express does today.
FWIW, Tandybot told me I could always install apps on the SD card. In theory, yes, but so few app devs code apps to work in that manner. Lesson learned.
kite edit: SNIP! No need for that kind of attitude around here, I'm afraid.

Craigslist Notification App?!?

I don't know where else to ask this, so I'm hoping the right person sees it here.
I recently flashed my phoned, soft-bricked, and restored (with a PIT), which wiped out all my TB apps backup up internally. I had a craigslist notification app that would periodically run searches (and was apparently created by craigslist), and now it's competely GONE from the market + internet as far as I can see. Does anyone have information about this? I found a similar app that seems to be a remake (Craigsnotifica), but I cannot find the original. Does anyone maybe have this backed up from TB? Thanks ...

Found the one I think you wanted...it's the one I used and is now gone from the market. It gives you notification updates for any listing category on a regular basis during the day. Another of the apps does this except the GUI is terrible.

V3.28 seems to be the most recent and LAST version. Was retrieving ad copy (the words) AND the pics consistently then became sporadic as to when it would pull down ads or be able to access CL in real time.
In last few days I only get pictures in ads - NO ad copy. Tried on 2 separate phones, seems to be the app.
Seems this app is no longer working on CL and the developer's site (accessed from within the app) only has a Recipe app!! Hahaha.
Thanks Rafael for creating the BEST CL app for Android then abandoning it!!! Hope CL's deep pockets paid you well!!
I am having the same exact problem. Photos & no text.
I tried on my galaxy 2,& galaxy 3 with the same result.
Is there a good android replacement application?
I tried a few that are not very good regarding the notification part.
During hurricane sandy this app helped me get a generator. I hate to see it gone.
Any ideas how to get in touch with the author?

I'm having the same issue. pPictures bit no text and I can't post to CL through the app now.
Would someone on XDA be able to figure out what changed with CL and fix the code inside the app?
Id be willing to donate for a fully functioning Craigslist Notifica.
Im having the exact same problem. Pictures, but no words. I use this app almost daily. Nothing on the play store even comes close to how good this app is. Id love to get the problem fixed. Also willing to donate!
Thanks
edit. posted an old article. opps.
hope this gets fixed soon. it was one of my favorite apps!
same issue
having same issue with this app...photos only and no text. Also couldn't find the app on the market. Not sure how we can notify the developer of the issue.
if you press the peace sign at the bottom of the ad, it will bring you to the original. not a great fix, but at least its something.
In the same boat. Hopefully there's a fix soon or I can find a replacement. Trying out CLapp but it seems to have issues with duplicate notifications.

I noticed that today when I fired up the app for the first time in a couple of weeks and here all of his apps are gone from the market. They were my favorite 2 apps ever. The actual craigslist app stinks!
Also noticed that there is really no craigslist apps other then the official one on the market now. I know now that Ebay owns like 45% of them they have been going after site and stuff that offer search functions for searching CL outside of the actual site so maybe there was something with CL going after them. No idea but I miss his apps!!
I love this app !! On my Galaxy S3 Sprint !

Scroll Position in Android Market

I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem but I've had it on all 3 of my Android phones and it is annoying to the point of rage.
Whenever you search for an app in the Android Market, click on one and realize its not the one you wanted, you click back but then the scroll position gets reset and you're at the top of the search results. This is even more particularly annoying whenever you look through your previously installed apps on the Android Market and try to re-install some. Its not fun having to scroll 5 pages each time.
Has anyone found a workaround for this? I would be willing to pay for a fix or patch.
