So, first, i know the vibrant doesn't have a compass, it has some other **** that emulates it.... but that's not the issue here. the issue is, that it's not even functional anymore. It USED to work, but ever since last week, it just stopped. My phone doesn't rotate landscape in any apps, it doesn't rotate in the browser, or anything. Yes, the "auto-rotate" is ENABLED in settings.
I even tried to download a "compass" app to see what phone was reading, and it WASN'T reading.... i downloaded the "bubble" app to see what angle it was stuck at, and "bubble" said it was at +1 degress x +1 degrees. So i hit "calibrate" and now it's the same, but stuck at 0,0 instead now.
So how can i get this working again without wiping my phone? I know for the G1, there was this compass "file" or something we could delete, and it would reset the compass settings, and that worked for me, but what about the vibrant?
Miss read problem
I disagree. My compass mostly worked on the stock rom and a bubble app would work. This is sounding like more than the stock firmware issues.
Yea you're right I missed read his post that it stopped working completely.

If you are using the voodoo lagfix, try flashing a non voodoo kernel and see if the problem improves. A number of us have been having problems recently with the sensors stopping working completely and the common thread seems to be the voodoo kernels. Make sure you disable the lagfix first.

not using voodoo,
using regular original lagfix on a rooted STOCK rom.
i think you are talking about the accelerometers, not the compass.
Mine too.
I also noticed that my Baseband version is T959UVJI5 and the build number now says Eclair where it was "none" (or something like that) before.
Was there an OTA.
I also noticed that the GPS is much, much better.
you're right, its the accelerometer, the vibrant doesn't have a compass. can someone think of a solution?
bumpity bump.

Not sure if this has been mentioned on here did a quick search to check..
Any how since upgrading to Gingerblur I've not been able to use my navigation app? It opens but that's it wont load any map data or anything.. has anybody else had This issue? Or should I use a stand alone navigation app I'm a UK orange customer

Time to wipe the phone out go do a SBF flash back update than root than install gingerblur the issue should be gone
I'm on gingerblur 3.5 and after just checking now, have no issues. Probably an issue somewhere else.

The issue I've been seeing is when navigation goes to tell me to turn, the app crashes. If I mute navigation, it works fine. I wasn't thinking it was being caused by a mod until I read this post. Looks like ill reload tomorrow to gingerblur 3.5.

I've just freshly rooted and installed CM7.1 RC1.6.1 with the MR2 radio. Part of the know issues seems to be slow GPS fix, but I can't seem to get a fix at all. The GPS symbol doesn't show at all on the status bar and gps status app doesn't do anything either. Am I missing something or is this normal?
Flash a rom with working GPS and turn it on. get a fix and leave it on, reboot into recovery and flash CM7.
Nothing yu did its a bug

before you do all that, try installing the gps toolbox app in the market and run that if you have not. May or may not solve the problem, but it will take less time.

So does this mean the GPS will be stuck on inside CM7?
I have same prob and with cm7 the above solution works I get lock within 3 seconds. It will work as normal. I used bamf 4.9 to get lock. Then restored my cm7

Just to add this device is not rooted or anything. Any idea if rooting and a different room could fix this issue?

FIXED
Well atleast for now it fixed I rooted it flash new rom and kernal and installed the lcd calibrator.apk so it does it on boot up. So far so good!
Ok bad news when I put screen to sleep then wake it up calibration is hosed until I reboot otherwise fine any thoughts from anyone? Just wanted to add screen can sleep for 15 seconds out less and it is fine any longer it looses calibration. Anyone know of a way to kill back log but not the screen???
