[Q] Unable to connect to my external IP while on wifi? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know if its this new ****ty 3in1 router Comcast has forced on us recently or what but I cannot connect to my external IP on my phone while on my own wifi network. For example Transdroid; I use my external IP as the server so that when I'm swapping in and out of 3G/wifi I'm not having to keep changing it. However now, it will only connect to the server when I'm on 3G, not wifi. If I change the IP to a local address, then it connects on wifi but obviously not 3G. Not really sure what the deal is and it's not only Transdroid that has this problem. Emit, my VNC applications and a couple others are having the same issue. Just doesn't want to connect to my own external ip address while I'm on my network. Makes no sense. Any ideas?

Your router probably doesn't support NAT reflection (or it's disabled). NAT reflection is basically a set a firewall rules that redirects connections to your external IP to the respective internal IP. For example:
Your external IP is 111.222.333.444
Your internal IP is 192.168.0.10
Your forwarded port is, say, 80
1) When you connect from your own WIFI with NAT reflection enabled (by default on most routers), this is what happens:
You connect to 111.222.333.444 on port 80. Your router tells your phone that the actual IP is 192.168.0.10 and it should connect to that instead.
2) When you connect from your own WIFI with NAT reflection disabled, this is what happens:
You connect to 111.222.333.444 on port 80. Your router tries to connect to that IP and as you know, when you connect to anything on the internet, only the external IP is visible. So, the router sees that both the source IP and the destination IP are 111.222.333.444. The router doesn't know how to handle this.
Try to see if there's a configuration option for this in the router's web interface. You may need to unplug the router afterwards. I hope this helps

hey guys please help me
I have sd wi-fi card
now I want to connect to wireles internet connection and
I already connect to the wireles internet but I can't open any homepage when I try to open a website there is pop up it say
" page cannot be found "
please helppp me
I don't know why
is there anyone know what is my problem ???
thanks if you reply me
Is this your own wireless network?
If it is, can you connect other wireless devices to it?
Most common issue is the device is not getting an IP, I have seen Netgear, Belkin, and D-Link routers/access points fail to issue an IP to WindowsCE devices for some reason, usually if you soft reset the router/access point, it will work for you.
If it's not your network, perhaps there is a proxy server or other gateway on the network, and you need to enter these settings into your device.
or if it's set to get dns by dhcp and the gateway dont give any dns
or if it's hardcoded to always use the isp gprs dns on all connections

htc 8525 cannot connect to internet even after getting IP from router

Hi Folks
With a lot lot difficulty I got this to connect to a WPA-PSK TKIP connection. The router is a netgear - one thats 802.11n capable.
I get IP address from the router so the HTC will show IP e.g. 192.168.1.4
. But the router lists the device as unknown and does not reveal its IP on the router page under "attached devices".
When I try internet explorer I cannot connect.
I did not yet try to change the ROM. Would it matter - what is the ROM.
Initially it would not even connect over a WPA2-PSK connection - though my router supports both WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK connections.
I am totally frustrated. Can someone help.
Also I tried this too - I FORCED it to take a static IP e.g. 192.168.1.25 and put the DNS IP addresses to that I found on the router that belonged to my ISP . ( what ever DNS the router will show me - and thats given by ISP )
Yet No Luck . I can't get on line even though I can connect to Wi-Fi.
Woaa !!! NOT A SINGLE REPLY ? Could you be so mean ?

S3 can connect to WIFI but no Internet

Hello everybody.
Since last saturday i'm testing a Galaxy S3.
I want to test if everything works properly before buying it.
I have some problems deling with the WIFI stuff.
I gave him a static IP (192.168.1.15), configured the gateway as the ip of my router (192.168.1.1),
the network class is 255.255.255.0 (network prefix = 24), the DNS points to the IP of the Router (192.168.1.1)
It connects without problems. form the S3 i can ping any device in my network and from other devices i can ping the S3.
I can connect to the configuration site of the router and from the page of connected devices i can see that the S3 is connected
with the correct ip and also the MAC adress is correct.
And for now everything is fine.
Problems raise up when i try to surf internet. The answer is always "Page not found"
If i open the browser and try to navigate to google] the answer is "Page not found". Same for any other site i try to connect with.
I cannot ping external adresses from the S3. Only the ones inside my LAN.
On the same LAN there are 3 laptops, 1 IPhone, 1 TV, NAS NETGEAR , home automation screen, all connected in WIFI.
All of them configured in the same way. (static ip, gateway=ip router, dns = ip router, network class 255.255.255.0),
And they all access internet without any problem.
The network is protected with WPA2/PSKey, encryption AES.
I tried to configure channel with WPA, WEP, without protection, but no changes.
The S3 connects to router but does not connect to internet,
I also tried to make it point to a public DNS 8.8.8.8. No WAY!
Works for other devices.
I tried to reset S3 to factory parameters, same thing i did for the router.
I reconfigured everything from scratch but no result.
I do not have any filtering based on IP or MAC adress on my Router.
I tried with DHCP, with reservation of IP adresses or without reservation. No change.
Other devices can access internet. S3 does not.
I have to say i'm quite desperate.
If you guys have some good ideas to solve or diagnostic the problem i would be grateful.
Cheers,
Fabio
I get that around my office as I walk around, I find that when I change AP in range my internet connection drops. I have to constantly disable/re-enable WiFi.
Even around my house, I have the handset to WiFi always on, yet when I wake up in the morning the internet connection is not working yet there is an IP. I couldn't be bothered to telnet to port 80 etc., but I hear that the Jellybean update will resolve this issue.
Same problem

Me too... Is anybody has solution for this issue?
Oh poor fellows ....try to add DNS manually according to your ISP...not add public DNS
Try forgetting the network and connecting again and make sure all the other devices are using different ip address

[Q] Android unable to connect to my Wi-Fi network - Windows can

I am in university halls of residence. I have setup a Wi-Fi hotspot in my room using a generic router by connecting from the ethernet out port in the wall to a ethernet LAN port and disabling DHCP on the router.
This works perfectly for my Windows 7 laptop. It connects to the router and then to the uni internet without issues. However, although my Samsung Galaxy S3 (International i9300) can detect the network, if I just try to connect to the network as I would any other it gets stuck when obtaining an IP address. After messing around with it for a bit i found that I could get the phone to connect by going into the advanced settings and choosing "static" instead of "DCHP". I don't know what I was really meant to enter for IP Address, gateway, subnet, DNS 1 and DNS 2.
The router has the IP of 192.168.1.1 when i connect it directly to my laptop via ethernet so I tried that as the gateway, I set the IP address to something like 192.168.1.14 (So that it was similar but different), I set the subnet to 255.255.255.0 and the DNS servers I used google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). This got me connected to the router but there doesn't appear to be any internet connection.
I therefore thought that I had entered wrong information for the network (I was only guessing after all). Therefore I went into ipconfig in Windows and copied the default gateway and DNS servers and used a similar IP address (Last number different). I had the same issue.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I only want Wi-Fi in my room for mobile.

How to set static IP without specifying gateway

I'm trying to set up a Wifi with a static IP but NO gateway or DNS but until I enter a gateway and DNS the save button remains greyed out.
From a networking perspective, you should be able to have a Wifi connection without a gateway (This is true for all devices with multiple network connections) so that it uses an alternative connection (Mobile data in this case) but for some reason the Android devs seem to think otherwise.
The network I'm connecting to has no internet connection (Used for local connectivity only) so I need the phone to still use my mobile connection whilst connected. As Android turns off mobile data when connected to Wifi I was hoping I could leave the gateway blank to force it to use it's mobile connection when connected to this network but I can't
How can I either have mobile data on for just 1 SSID or save a connection with no gateway so it does use mobile (I tried 0.0.0.0 to no avail)?
Phone is a rooted HTC One M8 running Android 4.4.4
