Potential Galaxy S2 ICS ROM. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Here is a sign of things to come in our future for or phones.

To be realistic it could be a few Months before something like this is ported to or phones, but if the above does not turn out to be a well orchestrated fake it means its already on its way.

you mean like it says on the link?
Update: The whole demo relies on third party software add-ons to make the phone only appear to be running Ice Cream Sandwich. It's an impressive feat, but it's not the real deal. Stay tuned for our coverage of the official Android Ice Cream Sandwich unveiling that's set for October 19.

hrm. not sure when they posted that "update" to the article, but it wasnt there at 9am or so EST 10-17-2011..
guess they got an influx of people yelling "fake" so they needed to put a disclaimer hehe

Yea the update was added later, and they hooked me a little, but also knew there was a good chance it was a fake.

Only if/when the CyanogenMod team do a version of it. By that stage Samsung will almost certainly have declared the GS2 well & truly obsolete.

Of course SGS2 will get ICS, but it will probably take a while, my guess is Nexus Prime for sale in december, and ICS update for SGS2 maybe 3 months later in march.

SAMSUNG Y U NO GIVE US ICS KERNEL SOURCE???

Is it going to take a year or will we be blessed with ICS shortly after its release?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
If it's anything like the Captivate, we'll get the update via Carrier after a long delay, but custom ROMs will have it not long after it appears for the international SGS2.
Go figure....lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
why ask when you know the answer - lol
Being that ICS hasn't even been released yet, means the manufacturers dont have the code to make it work on the phone. Which means we are probably 8-12 months away from seeing a "leaked" ICS.
Who knows. If the phone hardware is similar, we might get an early release of ICS based on the Nexus Prime version.
LOL your right but who knows ICS is designed for dual core hardware so we might get lucky lets just see.........

Looks like ICS is a 3 button lay out from what the video shows on the Galaxy Nexus.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
(dates are approximate, based solely on my fuzzy memory)
If the history of the Captivate can be a guide:
AOSP Froyo was released in about July(?) of last year, I9000 Froyo and leaked versions of Froyo for Captivate started appearing around October, official AT&T UCKB1 Froyo dropped in late February. So, about 8 months for official Froyo.
AOSP GB was released in about Feb., Samsung I9000 custom ROMs appeared around May, and official AT&T Captivate GB still has not been released nor has any definite timeline even been announced. 2011 was all that was given in a press release a few months back, but 8 months would put it around Dec/Jan.
But the I777 AT&T SGS II deviates less from the international SGSII though, which *might* make it easier/simpler for Samsung and AT&T to shorten the development cycle. Captivate had stuff like the Audience chip that the international I9000 didn't, and omittted stuff like the front-facing camera, flash, and FM radio. SGSII also has less bloat that needs to be updated.
We'll just have to see how much faster the development cycle is, if it's improved at all.

SDK or not I would love to play around with it even though its not fully functional. Its cool just to know that someone already ported it. I would love to see the port run on both the GS2 and Amaze. We definitely have the hardware to support the software.

eheh
but i think the sdk got incopleted....so we need to wait more a few days
Remember this we don't have a kernel so it'll be impossible to boot it on the amaze now . Once we get kernel then we could get porting & remember it's only a SDK so there will be no calling , texting or anything for that matter .
Met Google employee with ICS on Nexus S few days ago.
DL that's because there porting icecream to all nexus device's first then other device's .

ICS...no news is good news right??

Not sure if you all have seen this but there is a partial list of which phones are confirmed to get ICS...and the SGS2 is unconfirmed. I guess thats better than a "NO" right?

AT&T will take forever - however, if we're lucky, the I9100 source drop for the kernel will include drivers for the I777. If it does, porting ICS will be a matter of a week or two.
Actually, based on what I've seen, the Linux 3.0 sources are FAR cleaner in the arch/arm tree than 2.6.35 - so even if I777 drivers are missing, porting them should be easier. Main area of concern is the MAX8922 battery charger. Fixing touchkey should be easy if missing from sources (It's just one or two #defines for our device as it is.)

But one thing I am interested in is direct OS support of data logging and control gui of each and every app that uses data. It appears to allow you the capability of limiting or all out shutting of data separately by each individual app if you choose.
could be real useful for those of us on limited data plans.

AT&T wont release jelly bean for LGOG til the pro comes out. they want people to buy a new device and renew their contracts with the pro. less people would with LGOG having jelly bean.
Personally, I don't think AT&T cares what devices are out, they make their money on contracts, not devices.

I personally don't agree with this.
The vast majority of consumers don't know what version of android is on what device.
They won't even know.
And it shouldn't matter what device people buy, as long as they extend their contracts.
Also, stock isn't too bad on this phone.
I seriously could not care less when we have a ROM that's pretty much exactly what the stock update is going to be with SnowJB. Plus we've got AOSP, AOKP, and CM10 on the way. Not to mention The Base and other ROMs I'm neglecting to mention. If you're on XDA you likely don't need an official Jellybean release. I'm not a huge fan of this news being posted all over. We have better updates than what will ever come out. Who cares?

I don't know any android user that doesn't know what version of android is on their device. I can think of atleast 20 people. Most people are educated enough these days to know what they have and what newer version is out. They may not know how to root or modify like my sister but she does know when her iPhone doesn't have the newest iOS.

Then it seems most of my acquaintances... are not super bright.
But in all honesty, the everyday consumer really doesn't know. With Android so fragmented and most devices hardly receiving updates, I can think of a lot of people I know that don't know. They aren't tech people, they just want a smartphone.
I've had to walk friends through getting to the about phone settings just so they could find out what version they were on.
On iOS devices, everybody (or just about) has the latest update available to them; and even then, they really don't know what the hell is going on.
It is amazing how many people out there don't know much of anything about technology, and have no idea what their devices are capable of.

It's clear from what we've seen from other carriers around the world, that the lack of official Jellybean is totally on AT&T. I love this phone, but it looks like the only way to keep current is to depend on our devs and with brand new shiny coming out very soon I suspect we will lose quite a few of them. I realize brand new shiny phones are always coming out, but the next crop of devices are slated to be real power houses.
