[Q] Help with S2 Regarding ROM Manager [Yellow Triangle] | GS2 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hello,
First off I want to say that I enjoy this website, a lot of helpful information, a lot.
Here's my problem.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S II (AT&T Version), and am also new to the whole Android experience.
I have rooted it using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285894
So far, nothing too complicated. But then I wanted to try out a Custom ROM.
Purchased ROM Manager, and decided it was best to back up first only to find out I couldn't because I get this error:
-- Install from package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
-- Appling Multi-CSC...
Istalling Multi-CSC
Installation aborted.
I have looked EVERYWHERE on the net to find at LEAST 7 different methods for fixing this, but I am concerned. I rather have the experts give me some advice.
The places I have looked at requered me to use some CF-ROOT method that required me to check my kernel number (i.e XX-XX-KF).... but, my kernel is only 2.6.35.7, no letters.

}
Please help.
Thanks!
(ps: I would greatly appreciate it if I can get rid of the Yellow Triangle at boot. Again, have searched and came up with CF-ROOT Method, which confused me because I need to choose Root that corresponds with my kernel which is only "2.6.35.7")

Please do NOT use Rom Manager for anything having to do with the phone...
Following these instructions should solve all the problems you have described.
First download this file "SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar " and flash it using Odin.
Here is the download link: http://www.multiupload.com/QQKN7NJAFT
Then use the SuperOneClick you have already downloaded and ROOT the phone. (if its not already rooted)
After its rooted reboot the phone.
If you have not already copied a custom rom zipfile to you sdcard then now is a good time to do it.
Be sure the custom rom is intended for the SGS2 AT&T phone.
I would highly suggest to use the "Unnamed v1.0.3" custom rom created by GTG465x because in my opinion
after three days of intensive testing I have found it to be the best and the most bug free reliable custom rom
to be found right now for our phones.
Here is a link to the rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299474
Flash the rom in CWM recovery, after its done flashing be sure NOT to reboot the phone yet.
Instead select the "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" option in CWM then select "reboot system".
After thats done your phones problems should have disappeared.
(I will be waiting for you to click on that nice and big "THANKS" button after your phone is ready to use )
p.s. please do NOT use rom manager for anything.

search? read?
i dont have time for that crap. i need to get my question out there as soon as possible, with complete disregard for forum rules/etiquette.
honestly....this forum is already on a course for disaster. i hold no hopes for proper usage here.

Truly sorry for not searching as much but you must understand I'm new to this and I have to get used to it. I won't make the mistake twice.
And thank you Misterjunky, for such a rapid response. I would have posted a thank you earlier but I am at work. As soon as I get home I will try it and let you know if I ran into any problems. But the first question I have is if I need to put the phone in Recovery Mode (i.e Hold 2 Volume Buttons thing..) to install the SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar?
I guess I will follow the directions in the link you provided for the UnNamed ROM. Hopefully nothing goes wrong.
Thanks again.

Entropy was talking about this thing at the top of the forum section called a sticky.
**AT&T SGS2 Frequently Asked Questions(FAQS)**
it answers every one of your questions....and didnt require a new thread to do so. it didnt even require searching, but just READING the name of the thread.
you see, the thing is, when you come to a forum, especially one as big as this, if you have a question, you can rest assured that there are probably hundreds of others with the same question, and its probably already been asked before. people create these stickies so that the information is plain as day and doesnt get buried in the forums, but all you have to do is read the title of the thread and you would think, 'hey! i bet someone else has already asked this!'
its called common sense and forum etiquette. all we ask is that people READ the info ALREADY out there, before they go create another thread. there is no need for 100 threads to all ask the same thing, when there is one thread that already addresses that question.

What firmware can be flashed on a p509t?

Hey yall, i was wondering what firmware can be flashed and using what method is the safest for an Optimus P509T? I ask because as far as i know theres now TMO stock firmware for that phone and i know they can be totally bricked in just a second. I can only reach emergency mode so keep that in mind for a response... Thanks!
If your talking about the Optimus T, that's what i use now. I've flashed a bunch of firmwares and been gone up to this point. Unless yours is different?
Sent from my hands using a phone
Sorry, mis spell error. What i was trying to say is that as far as i know theres no firmware for the OptimusT specific. Also that i can only reach emergency mode is there a specific safe way to flash it.
Alright. I get what your saying now. Let me explain.
The p509t is compatible with ALL p500 roms unless specified. I have yet to see one not specified. there used to be some roms that were p509 specific, but their links have died or been lost. Now what you need to flash is Clockwork Mod recovery. There are other recoveries but this one is very simple and most stay off with it due to getting cyanogenmod. Look up clock work mod in app store. From there in the app flash the clockwork recovery. To get back into recovery after turning off press power + Volume up + home. Glad i could help.

Ok, i think i didnt make myself clear lol... The phone is stock in the lg screen, no hardware buttons response or whatsoever. The only thing i can read using the hardware buttons is emergency mode. It will not boot to home screen so my guess is that clockworkmod is not an option, just flashing stock official. Thats what i want to know the better method to flash back to stock. By the way thanks for your help M8
Oh... Well there is a tool, don't know the name at the moment.

However, there are issues using the new baseband. Any p 500 rom using the old baseband should have no problems.

[FAQ] General FAQs + Quick guide to rooting/flashing roms [23 MAR 12]
mihir287 said:
After many posts trying to help newbies, there are a few questions that are alarmingly common. I hope that this thread will remove such questions from the development section.
For the guide, refer to the next post.
General
Q. I have an Optimus T (P509) will all optimus one roms work for me?
A. For a detailed explanation of this issue check this post.
Q.Will roms for the new baseband on the Optimus One work on the Optimus T? Can the new O1 baseband work with OT?
A. See this post.
Q. I flashed a different baseband on my Optimus T, how can I get back to the original baseband?
A. See this (Doktornotor's guide mentioned in the post is here). Or, if you feel this method is too complicated, just flash the downloaded .kdz file using the KDZ method.

}
Q. I have some weird fastboot commands and the phone doesn't turn on!
A. Use this to unbrick.
Q. The phone is not responding at all!
A. Refer to [HOWTO] Phone not responding at all - last chance to repair.
Q. I was using KDZ updater and now I am stuck at boot!
A. Turn off the phone and do a hard reset (home+vol down+power) first. Not booting still? Use this thread to unbrick. See this picture guide if you want to try again.
Q. What about LGMDP?
A. Members doktornotor and cyber_avijit have nice tutorials/FAQs regarding the usage of LGMDP here and here respectively. You can also refer to this picture guide if you want.
If any question has not been mentioned, then search through the discussion thread for your rom first and see if it is a problem pertaining to your rom. If you are unable to find anything, you can ask it here.

Allright, i have done everything fine as far as i know but still receiving errors on while flashing. The phone reboots but it gets stock on the lg logo still. This is the start of the log file it produces, still it looks like everything is flashing but no luck when it reboots.
I think you would get more replies, if you change the title in your original post to reflect your problem.

Opps… TiBu Frozen Apps, lost root, bad to worse

I hoping that someone may be able to help me with this… I recently rooted my note via instructions here and installed CWM and TiBu. So far so good!
I began freezing some of the bloat and then found this post to see what else I could freeze. This is were things went wrong… I guess that I may have frozen something that I shouldn’t have because my home button stopped responding and then the back button took me to a black screen.
At this point I thought that my phone was nearly bricked, so I downloaded the firmware from SamMobile and flashed it. Still have a black screen, but I received a text and pop-up through chomp which let me know that my phone was still alive! I installed Go Launcher and can now can use my phone as 'normal'. However, I no longer have root according to TiBu, CWM and the like. I can still boot into download and recovery modes.
I found this thread, but it didn’t do much for me.
How’s that for an introductory post?!!

ICS. I've seen all of the tools in that thread, but not sure if I need the screwdriver or the hammer to 'get my root back' in this situation. Ultimately I'd like to be able to do it without having to do a full wipe/recovery.
Freezing an app will not brick your phone...
and in this case....you did not need to flash a new firmware. you could have simply pulled the battery, then put it in and booted to recovery to restore a backup.
but of course, the new firmware did break root....
bigjoe is right on the links info. it has all you need to start again.....and I "would" re-root using the odin CWM flash method......
In the general section, under the "galaxy note everything" thread.

Bigjoe for moderator !!!
Good to go!! Apparently twlauncher was inadvertently frozen which explains the black screen. Had I realized what the problem was, yes a simple recover from backup might have fixed it.
So tell me this, as I am still learning here... What is the difference in the method in bigjoe's thread vs trying to re-root my phone by the method I used previously? Whenever I tried to install SU after the original method I used, I would get a failed signature error. No problems with using bigjoe's recommendations.

The difference is ....bigjoe is a god among men, and probably led the Crusades in a previous life.
I'm quite certain he drank beer with Khan and Hun. Now ignore those historical timelines because bigjoe was there ...period !!
Those things, combined with the fact that he invented the first telephone, make him knowledgeable in all things android and beyond ....so take his word for it ...
And ..after every post ..please use the phrase ....." BIGJOE FOR MODERATOR"....
While it isn't the Crusades over again, he certainly deserves to be one.
After all ...he did invent the telephone for cryin out loud .....LOL
Bigjoe for moderator !!!!!.......H...O....O...T !!!

Maybe you think we can just look into a crystal ball and divine what is wrong with your phone and how to fix it? No, we need more information. So, since you can't think what information to provide, I'll ask specific questions. You will need to answer these questions completely and thoroughly. (I hope you will, as you did not answer very much of the questions I posed in my last response.)
So lets start with those:
1. Tell us everything about your phone. How long have you had it? Did you buy it new or are you the second owner? What operating system was it running before you started the process that caused your question? I assume this means what operating system was on the phone when you tried to root? One would assume that since it wasn't rooted, it had been stock? Was it working normally before you tried to root?
2. What exactly did you use to try to root the phone? What method did you use, or specifically what did you flash to achieve root? You didn't get the yellow warning triangle from flashing stock, so it must have occurred when you tried to root.
Let's start with that. If I need more after you answer these, I'll ask.

Am I correct in assuming that after you first tried SuperOneClick, the phone was able to boot normally? I am guessing you were able to boot the phone or you wouldn't know that superuser.apk was installed.
And how did you know that the root didn't work?
I'm not sure exactly what SuperOneClick does, but I don't think it will work with stock 4.0.2.
By the way, since the S4 was released, a lot of people have left the I777 forums so I don't know if you'll find anyone else to help besides myself. I'll try to check on this thread as often as I can, but you may have to wait hours between messages.
Edit: Oh and have you tried to boot into recovery. If not, try it now. Hold down vol- vol+ and pwr continuously for at least two initial boot screens. And if you by some chance can enter recovery, I'll need to know that information.
Alright listen, you're gonna be fine.
You really dodged a bullet as your phone is SOFT BRICKED.
This is easily fixed, the phone I'm typing this with had the same issue.
First, get into download mode and make sure your battery is out, this is often looked over. As long as your battery is out before odining you're fine.
Now using ODIN I'd flash an official ROM from the Samsung site. Get that tar/md5 file and hook it up to PDA. Start the flash.
If it fails flashing try it AGAIN.
If it fails IMMEDIATELY then try a different ROM.

[Q] Stuck in recovery. How to flash a rom from Fastboot USB?

Hello All,
Looks like I got myself into a pickle with my DNA......
Right now the only two things I can access on the phone are the bootloader and CWM.
How I got here:
I went into CWM recovery and deleted/formatted everything (absolutely everything that could be deleted and/or formatted), thinking I could flash a radio/firmware upgrade, then the LiquidSmooth rom from adb/fastboot. Been a long time since I've worked with this phone and now all I got is the bootloader and CWM. Thought I could use adb to push the rom zip to the device, then go into recovery and flash it the right way, but when I go to fastboot on the device and use the push command in adb it tells me "error device not found".
Gonna stop right there and seek some advice. What's the best way to correct this mess?
Thanks ahead of time!
PS: Working with a DNA with an unlocked bootloader (S-ON), and it was running the stock rom before the first OTA update. I did make a backup file and save it to my PC before I did anything. But, now adb is suddenly not recognizing that the device is connected so I can't push any files to it.

Not real sure how this will help me.
I cannot boot into Android, and at this point whenever I try to push files to the device via adb it gives me an error and says device not found.

The problem with that turned out to be an outdated version of CWM. I updated it, only to find my phone would not get recognized in recovery by adb. Found that with the upgrade I also needed a driver upgrade which I took care of (after I had installed TWRP to test as well, just stuck with TWRP). Was able to flash rom (and it sucks). Looking for another one now that is more of a stock (de-bloated with perks, etc).
When I'm done there, should I run firewater to achieve S-OFF so I can update the radio as well, or is there a better way?
No os installed!!! Need help asap!!!!please
I hope im posting in the correct forum (forgive me if im not i mean no disrespect) im new to this rooting thing and made a choice the other day to root my htc dna thats currently on kit kat 4.4.2. I started out with clockworkmod and didnt like that so i then flashed twrp. The reason i didnt want to continue with clockworkmod is because i notice that there was some storage issues going on, i went to my settings and located my storage and saw that the other field was reading that over 13gb was being used up. I couldnt find out what the 13gb was so i started researching and found out that clockworkmod might have been having some issues with duplicating the os therefore taking up too much space. So what i did was try to flash the twrp thinking that would work and the storage was still being taken, so i started researching again and found out that i would need to do a factory reset and start all over....well when i did some how i erased the os as well now im stuck on the htc screen or i have the option of booting up into twrp but thats it.... I downloaded what i thought was the right ruu but thats not working i keep getting error 158....please somebody help me!!!!!!

Just for future reference, if you care to allow the dev community to thrive.
Don't use terms like "it sucks".
Maybe..., I don't like it,....or, I didn't care for it,....or it's not what I wanted, or needed, etc,..
But to know little about Android, and then to say that someone elses hard work sucks, is what makes devs say forget it and stop providing their free services to the community.
Just thought I'd point that out.
You can think I suck for saying so, but I'm honestly just trying to help you and the community by letting you know what impact users comments can have on Devs motivation to provide these things in their free time, with nothing in return.
Take it or leave it. Hope you find what suits you.

I really love the fact that so many came in to actually ANSWER my question(s) and give relevant info on the issues I was experiencing (heavy sarcasm obviously). Ironic that only when I took a jab at someone's work (out of frustration) that the thread became active with people only sounding off on that issue, still ignoring the original problems I brought to the table. Top notch support!!!!!!
With that out of the way, to santod040; please accept my apology. I said that out of complete frustration and it was totally unecessary. Contrary to the negative vibes that comment conveyed, I DO appreciate all the devs hard work and allow me to publicly thank you for that. It was bad night of troubleshooting for me as I've been out of the loop for quite sometime and was rusty in several areas. Adding to that was the complete lack of helpful info I was finding not only on this site but several others. Kept going in circles and getting no where.
It is extremely important I point out that out of five different ROM's I tried to install via sideload, your's is the ONLY one that actually worked and in the end, I went back to it as it allowed me to finally boot into Android and enable USB debugging and help get the S-OFF process started via Firewater. Conclusively, I was finally able to get the baseband upgraded and get the phone fully up to date. So, thank you, wholeheartedly, and I apologize again for letting my stress get the better of me that night. LiquidSmooth saved my ass.
Cheers, my friend, and thanks again.

Does VRUFNK1 work with i545 all in one root?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301720
Will this method work with VRUFNK1?
I did a search within that thread for VRUFNK1 and it didn't return any hits so I just wanted to make sure it works. If anybody has gotten it to work, please let me now. Thanks!

NEGATIVE its super outdated. Your going to have to temp downgrade just the kernel (boot.img) to NC2 or NC5 then use Towelroot to root then reflash the NK kernel (boot.img) to complete the root for NK. An indepth explanation including the steps taken in development to root the last 3 versions of our firmware as well as files can be found at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2720163
After rooting its suggested you install Safestrap 3.75 A03 for i545 then do a NAND backup. Safestrap will also allow you to install a few different custom ROMs but you'll be limited to TouchWiz ROMs with a few exceptions on the AOSP/GPE side. Any ROM you plan on flashing will be explicitly labeled for Safestrap somewhere in the OP. Avoid CM ROMS and TWRP and CWM Recoveries and any Kernel besides 4.42 Stock Kernels (NC2/5,NG6,NK1 boot.img) as they will all softbrick your phone/void your warranty. Softbricks can be fixed by flashing a whole Odin package for Firmware. Following the instructions I posted or my thread will keep your KNOX enabled phone's warranty technically intact and by that I mean you won't trigger KNOX's warranty bit and will remain at 0x0.
Thats the locked bootloader safe S4 instructions in a nutshell hope it helps. Remember searching the i545 threads will result in more useful information.

Yeah. the only option to root stock 5.0.1 is kingroot.
and the only "recovery" is actually not a recovery but it is flashfire

fail. i mean, i have no problem using kingroot. but is it because the bootloader is still locked?

Yes and safestrap is pretty much useless as is with lollipop.
Reading enough threads on using ss on oc1 can yield some results but are not for beginners.
Or you will be using Odin more than you would like to.

so now i really feel like an idiot. i tried kingroot and that failed as well. thinking maybe it was because i had started the tool i tried flashing the old 4.4.2 so i could take the OTA again and try over. but that failed as well. now im at a loss for what to do next. ive seen the flashfire posts but im hesitant to do that and lose everything that i have

Edit: I tried it again and this came up:
