I am running Val's rom with freeza's dual core fix. Core one is at 1782 with core two at stock 1.2.
Surprisingly battery life is pretty darn good once I got everything tweaked. I would definitely recommend his tweak to squeeze this beast to the max.
Thanks again freeza for the help, I am loving this phone again!

Can you tell me what and where I can find VAL's rom and your settings in freezas dual core?

He now has a tutorial in the mods section (I believe) which is great and also has a post in the dev section to download the dual core kernel

This is the script I made thanks to freeza. I took freezas advice and set the second core @ 594000 MHz with a minimum of 192000 MHz. Just place this in the etc/init.d folder. If you want you can edit the frequency and governor.

I've been running mine @ full speed for the past few days to monitor how battery life is effected. The second core by default can run up to stock speeds (or max overclock speed) whenever it needs to, but having it online all the time with 594MHz max seems like a good trade-off to me! I may just go right back down to it.

Well Cayniarb (Tiamat Developer) in detail said it isn't. He said it would basically cause ware on your processor after a while (that's the long explanation in a nutshell). Cayniarb is coming out with a kernel that would enable us to use both are cores at the same time safely, but until he does this is my alternative.

Yeah it is a good trade off, especially after the scare from Cayniarb in the tiamat thread. 594000 MHz on my second core has my phone just where I need it. I guess it also keeps the "ware on my processor" at a minimum.
Big ups to Cayniarb by the way for the information. I don't want him dropping by this thread thinking I'm dissing him and his knowledge. I got mad respect for that guy. I mean, I am using his kernel.

I don't want to shoot down another awesome dev's opinion but I treat this like I treat SBC kernels. You had camps from both sides defending their opinions, and in the long run, SBC has yet to claim any lives or damage any phones with valid proof, the same as this. I've been running with my second core enabled for a month. I know it's probably not long enough to really claim victory, but it counts. Nothing has gone wrong, or even looked like it was going to go wrong. I think it's pretty safe to say that this won't cause any long term damage to the phone. If by some miracle it does shorten its life, It's not doing anything that overclocking your phone won't accomplish as well. I'll probably have another phone long before I see any 'damage' to this phone.

That's funny how you took that thought right out of my brain.
I've even felt like that with SBC. It was said using SBC kernels would screw up your battery, but I was like "Ummm, so what." Ill have the E3D by the time that would happen.

Hey rock, where is his post so I can read what he says. I like knowing what others think about this. I wouldn't change it but would like to see his side. My only question is if it is bad to run both our cores why not for the other phones out there that come as true dual cores? Anyway, post that thread link if ya can. Thanks

If you go to this thread a user named Cobraboy85 recently quoted that statement made by Cayniarb. Which you should see because in green it says recently posted by Cayniarb.
Bassicly there's asynchronous and non asynchronous. Are dual core processors are asynchronous. They are made for one core to do the work and kick in the other while its stressed. I don't know why its like that, leave that question for the pros.

I'm not a professional at this kind of stuff. But the response from cy was a little vague in my opinion. That's why i asked. Logic tells me if the second core is designed to turn on, then its not a problem having it always on. It makes no sense that it is not designed to handle constant online status. The only detrimental effect I can see is maybe it getting a little warm and draining battery faster than normal. But your phone has safety features built into it to prevent it from doing permanent damage... it will shut down... had this happen once due to heat... under very heavy use.... let it sit for a few minutes while off.... good to go.
The argument over dual cores ruining your phone, and dual cores not making your phone process tasks any faster just sounds like a bunch of bro science to me anyways. Fact is, the system processes tasks faster when it is under heavy load with the second core on, therefore it will process tasks faster with both of them on all the time because when it comes under load it will already be available. This is evident in browsing web pages, and doing heavy multi tasking. I have tested this theory by doing just that... running as many tasks as I can, with cpu1 online and set at default. Phone is more responsive when it is online and the system is under load.
If it ruins my phone, then oh well, that's what insurance is for. And I have been doing this for a while with no issues. We'll see I guess. But for now I agree with freeza. Its all speculation. Not knocking anybody, just telling you my experience with it.
Running both cores, my phone still hyberenates in deep sleep mode 95% of the down time. So it seems to be functioning properly I would say. Not bugging out and locking up or freezing or runnin particularly hot. Just running fine.

Definite plus one!
I don't understand how a phone can be designed for the second core to sporadically be put online. In that case, I could just run benchmarks all day (which also causes the system to turn the second core online) and that could potentially ruin my phone? Doubtful!
The TouchPad folks have already been making kernels that enable dual core mode all the time and that uses a similar chipset. There hasn't been any reported failures or damaged units because of it. In fact, I've been running said kernel on my TouchPad since the day I got it and it's been running like a champ.

Oh and it does 3D just for giggles. With the devs here at xda this phone will by far exceed everyone's expectations .
BTW you don't I repeat don't have to use 3D its not a gimmick or the whole purpose just a simple feature way too many people are trying to say it is bad.

Agreed, what's the point of listening to people that have actually used the phone and have provided a critical assessment! No. I'd much rather read off the spec sheet and declare it AWESOME.

I been on my Instinct since 5 months ago since my Hero was destroyed :/. Anything is better than that so I wont be disappointed with the Evo 3D.
Awesome indeed!!!
I was fortunate enough to pick up an HTC seed unit last night and let tell you. THIS PHONE IS AWESOME!!!
Not even talking about the 3d... which upon first encounter was a bit tricky to get used to, but after shooting over 50 pictures/videos there's a science to getting it right.
The power of this phone lies in the dual core processor, the "super lcd" display, and updated software makes the phone run like a dream.
I was actually not very excited for this phone. I left android for WP7. (say what you may, but I use my phone a lot for work.) I can happily say the Evo 3d has brought me back into the fold...
But in short.. it's definately worth the wait!
What was your impression of the 2D pic quality (in relation to
4g?
Thanks

Honestly, the 2D picture quality is comprable to the Evo. I had a buddy take a picture of the exact same thing side by side on his Evo 4G. The quality is identical... unless you go full zoom on both devices, in which case the 4G is a winner, but not by a huge margin.
My biggest problem with the camera is the dedicated camera button. It is auto-focuses on light pressure and snaps the picture on the full press. It may just be because I have an otterbox case on it, but I find myself pushing so hard that I make the picture out of focus. Not a major gripe, as I'm learning to have a bit more... "finese" with the camera button. Ironically, I find the dedicated camera button to be EXTREMELY handy aside from my lack of initial nimbleness with it. Here are a few random 2D pictures I took if anyone wants to compare for themselves... and yes, very random pictures, I'm at work and don't have a lot to photograph..
Old Navy sign is no zoom / full zoom from the exact same distance. No zoom picture of a dairy queen cup... yup... I know...

I ask this question sincerely. Its been hard keeping up with all the topics in this section of the forum, and there are many more complaints about things than real reviews from the people who own the phone. I'm on the fence. I've been looking for objective analysis of the phone from the people who have now had it, going on two days.
So, I ask, does anyone wish they didn't pre order? Anyone definitely bringing it back for something you would define as a deal breaker? I know I have nothing to lose to try it for 30 days, but I'm weighing it out to see if I should wait a while for things to get tidied up before I buy one.
Thanks
I know the release was a bit buggy, but HTC seems pretty good about fixing these issues considering the phone is not even out yet. You can count on the development for this phone skyrocketing once the bootloader becomes unlocked.
I only regret ordering via Early Purchase because my power button's broken, and I'm sitting, staring at my non-functional 3VO, hoping I can get it switched out tomorrow (crosses fingers that stars align).
For the brief time I did use it (finding ways to bypass the power button problem), no complaints.

Yeah, I know its a matter of when, not if on the bootloader so that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. Minor bugs are a part of early adoption also. Is the phone really that much better than the OG Evo? I get the specs and all, but I'm running Sense 3.0 on my OG and it runs great. I'm sort of interested in taking 3D pics of my kids and the reports of the camera being better in general is a plus for me.
Thanks for the reply.

Despite any of the complaints or bugs that people have reported, I still say that this is an awesome phone, and don't regret buying it at all. Any of the bugs that are being reported now will likely be handled via ota's in a timely manner. Once the bootloader gets cracked and we can get some some custom roms and kernels on this thing it's all over. This is the smoothest phone I've used, even with stock sense.
EDIT: and after reading your second post, let me say that this thing runs 100% smoother and quicker than any of the 3.0 or 2.1/3.0 'hybrid' roms for the OG Evo. I've ran them all on my Evo, and this thing squashes the 3.0 Evo roms, in terms of speed and smoothness. The hardware is simply far superior on this, so it runs much smoother.

Thanks, this is the stuff I'm looking for. I tend to have periods of buyers remorse on certain purchases and while the bugs seem pretty minor, HTC still has a pretty good record of hot fixing things in short time.
I love the phone. I definitely have some complaints.. some are legit, others are preference based. You're gonna have to physically play around with one before you can really decide if it's for you or not. it is fast and smooth, I do still notice a hang here and there that I'm sure is the fault of Sense 3.0
Hoping to get this thing rooted but, it will be incredibly tough if HTC doesn't keep their promise. Still. rooted or not, I will keep this phone for at least a year..

Umm, yeah, I try nearly every rom that comes around and....umm...not a single 3.0 or 2.1/3.0 hybrid rom I came across would i consider even slightly close to smooth....I typically tune my phone extremely tight....and at first I blamed a lack of an OC kernel...but....even after letting it settle in for a while those roms on a 4G sucked. It was fun being able to play with my next phone--sorta--before I got it...but...not even close. I just couldn't get it to what I considered usable...while I understand that all phones aren't created equally...somehow...I've never had any bad luck at all with my Evo 4G...at all....if all phones aren't created equally (...aside from the physics and practicalities of CPU fabrication the verdict is still out on that one...) my OG Evo would be one of the best, cream of the crop....and those Sense 3.0alike roms were fun, but, the performance blew hard chunks.....I think perhaps "not all people's standards and expectations are created equal" is a more apt assessment of the situation....YMMV

I agree completely. I think people's expectations and interpretations of what 'smooth' and 'usable' is vary greatly. I never had a problem with my OG Evo (launch day evo, still mint condition), but none of the roms are as smooth as this thing is, and this is a stock htc rom! I can't imagine the possibilities that lay ahead with this phone.
Everything on this phone runs as smooth as butter. Multitasking is a dream and everytime i start an app, I cum a little its so fast. Feeling like you can reach into your screen when looking at 3d content annoys the hell out of me cuz i can't... Lol besides the few software quirks that show up here and there this phone is perfection. I am astounded by the difference between this and the 4G.. wow. I have not once felt any remorse.. buy this phone lol

Still the honeymoon. Check back in about 3 weeks when it gets ugly.
I am completely loving the entire experience so far! So smooth... Fast... I love that I can just pinch the browser window and it shows the pages/allows me to close and add more so quickly.
Battery life has been great for me! Sense 3.0 is crazy cool. U even think the vibration feedback feels so much better than the 4G. The 3D gives me a headache, but it is fun to show off. The camera for 2d focuses better... Can actually take a focused picture of my jack russell. The dog was always a blur on the 4G because he never stays still.
No remorse here at all. It's a solid device!

Seems, all the likes for this phone are eye candy, and not actual practicality. Aside from the 3D what can this phone do that the Evo can't with a custom rom? I keep asking myself, what need do I have with a phone that takes 3D movies or pictures, I mean, a cell phone should never be used as your main camera, the quality is never as good as a DSLR, or even a decent point and shoot. So at best the Evo 3D has more gimmicks then the Evo 4G. So I guess the question is, are the gimmicks worth the extra money?
As far as smoothness, maybe, maybe not. The latest Kingdom and Synergy roms run really smooth on the 4G. It may take a second for an app to come up, but I mean, come on, are our lives that fast paced that one second really matters? Man I miss the 80's.
Forget the 3D, it is just sweet novelty to show off and give your enemies headaches... Think dual core, sense 3.0 goodness. It's a great next gen Evo.

Im going for an INCREDIBLY long day tomorrow without a charge. Basically from 7AM - 9 PM. What precautions should I take to ensure the battery lives?
I can turn off my phone (and i plan on doing so) for whatever moments im not using it. (Well, the moments il be unable to use my phone). I also have juice defender installed.
What other precautions can I take to make my phone last longer?
Thanks

Thank you good sir. I actually only checked the development section. (No idea why... I kinda feel stupid now).
Anyways, really appreciate it
My phone goes from 6AM til 11PM...Cleanrom, Anker extended battery and OC daemon.

Thanks for the suggestions and links guys. Im willing to install a rom on my (GSM) phone. The only problem I have is that mine is the Rogers Canada version. Im fairly sure the radios/modems (im a captivate user) are different and I really dont want to screw this up. So yeah, its all stock for me.
Nonetheless, im checking out the links you posted, and I've basically done everything I can on those. I hope it lasts through the day.
Thanks and have a good one!
Yes I know wrong section. But this absolutely MUST go out to as many kernel devs as possible. I see alot of kernel activity today, and im just saying. BFS + dual core...
You even state its the wrong thread. Shame on you.
If you need it, make it.

"Alot of kernel activity..." ???
All I see is bnice's added today...
Glad to see his bc as far as kernels go we have been lacking lately. Remember in evo4g after source is out net and others would b on top of it within a week and have ton of stuff added.
Spoiled back then I guess. LOL
But to ur point about BFS, I tried those so many times and the battery like effect was never worth the slight performance bump over using cfs. Just my opinion on it.

jeez guys... take it easy.
lol.
just a desperate plea for BFS.
I love the theory in BFS but CFS just feels far faster (and more immediate) IMHO.
Yuck, no we don't.
BFS has always produced terrible results on phones-- that usually result in very strange issues and battery problems. CFS all the way.

+100000.
Maybe we can mark the "end of an era" here on XDA, when there officially are NO more silly BFS kernels worked on by Devs or even, possibly, demanded by users. These kernels were begun to be produced originally because of users' strange fixation on the 5% of "missing" battery life they were "getting screwed out of" every time they unplugged after a full charge.
The appropriate reaction by developers over the first complaint of this years ago SHOULD have been "so what? It's 5%. That's actually a safety feature that's there to protect your battery and to make sure you don't burn down your house.... ".
Why the whole "BFS!-here's-a kernel-that-will-keep-charging-that battery-until-it-glows-or-explodes" thing ever became a thing in the first place is beyond me.
Cmon guys... Here's our chance.
Edit:
I win the idiot award for this fantastic piece of work. I'm SO leaving it up, though... lol.

..... You mean SBC.
COME ON, Zook... I would hope you know the difference between the SBC (superior battery charging) kernels and the BFS (Brain F*ck scheduler).

Haha... Sorry guys... I just woke up and saw my fatal error...
Go ahead, yuk it up..., (I would)...
Anyway, I read the OP wrong, obviously...
I was talking about an SBC kernel...
(That concept, I know I'm against, by definition.)
And I am familiar with the concepts of BFS/CFS... Honestly, though, I could never tell much of a difference between the two when using different variations of the same kernel on my EVO4G.... (I've got a CFS kernel with CM7 in there right now, I believe, that's never given me issues, though.
So, once again, sorry for the goof, sorry to the OP because my opinion was misguided..
I didn't read it correctly, and thought I knew what I was talking about.
Ps, thanks Chef, for taking up for me though, but, while I definitely know more about Android than I did a year ago, I still am learning every day, and that's because of everyone else that's here every day too.
Thanks for keeping me in check, fellas.

here is the WikiPedia listings for BFS in case anyone is curious..
i personally like this one: BFS, a revival of the 1970s British band Blackfoot Sue
thats what we are looking for in a kernel right?? the revival of the 1970s British Band Blackfoot Sue.. yeah.. that sounds about right.. please devs give us some more Blackfoot Sue in our kernels.. please
