How do I download from filesharing websites using Android on HP Touchpad - TouchPad General

More of a general Android question. Whenever I go to filesharing websites like filesonic to legally download free materials, it only downloads a 'com.htm' file instead of the actual file I wanted.

Copy link and paste into a different browser. I use Firefox for this. Firefox or their nightly will both work.

I'm going to try your suggestion now. Opera and Browser didn't work, let's see what Firefox can do.
I also have seen that there are apps for some file sharing websites, 2shared and mediafire to be specific.
EDIT: It worked. Thank your the valid information and the quick response.

[Q] Embedded PDF, PPT, or Word in browser

I wanted to reply to this thread but cannot since I have less than 10 posts. Regardless, threads addressing this problem are outdated.
I recently switched to Verizon and got a Fascinate from a friend. While I am enjoying the phone overall, there are a few glaring issues I have run into. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to read embedded pdf or other documents that normally open directly in the browser. My university uses these for their class management and I really need to be able to view them on my phone without downloading them ahead of time. On my old phone (apple) I could open and read these documents no problem. Is there a way to do this on android?
Thanks,
Evan
If your just looking to be able to read and save pdf files you can download adobe reader ,(it may actually be called adobe pdf) but either way its free on the market.
If that's not what you're looking for try downloading a different browser there's a ton of free ones, also on the market.

Adobe reader is good, and I have it. The problem is that the browsers do not prompt me to select or automatically open the PDF in adobe reader. Since it is embedded in the web page they just do nothing but load an empty frame where the file's content should be. I have actually found that Firefox will prompt and open these files in adobe reader or another document reader, but no other browser will.
Is there some setting I am missing with dolphin and the stock browser that would tell them to open these files in a standalone reader? I really like dolphin HD and don't think firefox is quite there yet (but it is the only browser that seems to open these files). To avoid confusion I found firefox after the OP, but am still looking for a better solution.

I know that Dolphin HD has an addon called PDF viewer for Dolphin.
you can check it out and download it here -> https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.mgeek.pdfviewer
Might be what you are looking for.
Good luck!
It appears that app only works for google docs. Even if this is not the case it didn't help my particular problem. Thanks for the suggestion

Make websites think I'm browsing from PC?

There's a certain website I frequent on my PC that allows me to stream episodes of breaking bad, etc. It's a pretty simple straightforward search engine that links you to a streaming flash video. When I try from my phone, it brings me to a version of the site which only allows me to search and then download the file instead of streaming it.
Is there any workaround / fix / app that will trick the site into thinking I'm on a PC?
Thank you
Dolphin (I use mini) will let u change the User Agent to Desktop.
Toolbox -> User Agent

Basically all of the third party browsers allow you to change user-agents. I really like the default browser, if only it gives option to do permanent desktop mode or allow switching like third party browsers do.
There is a way to change the stock browser to do desktop mode, but it is only per session. if you close the browser and reopen it goes back to mobile view.
I use dolphin hd set to desktop user agent, allows for streaming on hulu and full turntable.fm
+1 dolphin browser

i use maxthon. you can change to desktop or other browser types in the option. if you use it on your pc or laptop too you can sync all uour bookmarks and stuff with it after you sign in. its faster than google chrome on a computer and the fastest ive found for my atrix. hopes this helps.
I use both Dolphin HD and Opera, but Dolphin doesn't work properly on this site. If you're in a thread with multiple pages the button for the last page is covered so it's difficult to get to, and if you try to search the thread the search pops up and disappears immediately. The back button on Dolphin doesn't work well if you click a link in Yahoo - you have to hit back multiple times before it works. Most sites do work ok though.
The stock CM7 browser will let you change user agents to Linux desktop, Mac desktop, Froyo, Eclair, iPhone, iPad and IE6
Skyfire

Why won't MediaFire links open?

Someone in another thread shared a link to some wallpapers but its a mediafire link and will not open on my phone regardless of which browser I use or user agent set. It is just a blank white page.
Any ideas?

are you using stock browser with desktop it should work
try dolphin hd and set useragent to desktop
are you using 2.2, 2.3, or 4.0?

Easily transfer what you're doing on a PC to your Android device?

So I find a news article I'd like to read but I don't have time to read it. Is there an app I could install on my phone and my computer to make it easy to me to just push this site to my phone? Ideally I would click a button in my browser and it would cause the browser on my phone to automatically open and display the website I want to read.
Any ideas?
Use a qr code generator to turn the url to a qr code and scan it with your phone?
I think chrome may also have something that accomplishes this. Something about syncing across platforms? Someone illuminate for me.

Ya I usually QR code it. But if you have Chrome beta you can see all the tabs you have opened on other devices and open the tabs on your phone/tablet
Chrome to phone app
Chrome - Chrome to phone extension
Firefox - Fox to phone extension
The best way is to use Pocket(formerly Read It Later, also the name of FF extension). It is universal, Firefox, Chrome, Any android browser(share button) etc. I prefer it to Chrome to Phone.
Firefox has it, once desktop and mobile versions are synchronized.
You open mobile version, you find same bookmarks and open tabs.

This is the best, I have tried them all. I have Pocket on my phone, kindle fire, laptop, and work computer.
Maxthon browser has Cloud Push which is exactly what I was picturing when I asked this question. I didn't really want all my tabs to be synced and I didn't want to deal with add-ons , plugins, or 3rd party apps. I'll install Maxthon on each device and just use that. I like the interface better than any other browser so I'd be switching to it even without this feature.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Much appreciated.
Just to throw another suggestion out there:

Download files to PC

Is there an android app that lets me tell my computer at home to download a file? Sometimes im out on the road and see a new 600mb rom posted and I want to be able to tell my computer at home (with a faster connection) to download it so when I get home I can just flash. I like how in the utorrent android app I can send torrent files from my android to my computer and when I get home, its finished downloading. Im wondering if I could do something like that but for regular non torrent links. Thanks.

pocket cloud and pocket cloud explorer are a pair of apps worth looking at, pocket cloud is a remote desktop client, should do what you want,, but sluggish over 3g but still workable
