Follow the instructions below to a "TEE" and your problems will be gone. You are NOT bricked.
#1: First you need to download this SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar
kernel, here is the link: http://www.multiupload.com/QQKN7NJAFT
#2: Go into download mode and flash the tar file above with ODIN.
(be sure that this tar file is in the PDA slot in Odin before flashing)
#3: Then you need to ROOT your phone so download "SuperOneClick" rooter
which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1285894
#4: After doing this you need to download a rom of your choice and copy it
to your sdcard and flash it using CWM recovery which you just flashed.
Once you get done doing these steps successfully you will be good to go and will be able
to flash any custom rom found in this forum. You will also have the CWM recovery too.
(you will be able to go back and flash the stock rom too)
Good Luck
nope didnt fix it

*It will hang up at #6 of Super One Click when it does this unplug your phone go into settings uncheck and check usb debugging again then plug back in. At this point it will continue with the root. It will send a test to your phone and you may or may not have to click allow for Superuser.**
listen to raptor7056, he is showing you the right way. btw just read the instructions carefully next time bro
^ yup, on step 6 pull the plug, uncheck and recheck USB debugging and plug it back in. I know it's weird but that's the way to do it
Edit: I see I'm a minute late
Actually, I just realized he said his phone won't boot. If that is the case, he cant go in and uncheck and recheck USB debugging.
Not sure what exactly you do from this point, but if you have clockworkmod installed then maybe you can try this method

Does this phone allow you to reboot and go to home screen after you have attempted to root? On my old captivate if you were in odin and were doing anything that required being in download mode, if you unplugged the usb cable while it was doing it's thing, you were hosed..... everyone keeps saying here that you can unplug from one click, reboot, make changes then go back in download after.... am I understanding that right???????

Yes you are understanding it right, but S1C is not odin so unplugging it will not "hose" your phone.

It's not the homescreen. Hold down both the volume up and volume down buttons and plug in the usb cable. This should get you to download mode. Then flash the package from the link to go back to stock. Then try again if you wish.

The easiest thing at this point would to be just to flash to to stock rom, it's simple enough

I googled how to reset my phone back to factory settings and they gave me this link

You may have tried this but these are the steps that eventually worked for me.
1. Put your phone in download mode by plugging it in and then holding Vol Up+Down and Power. As SOON as the screen goes black release power but NOT Vol Up+Down.
2. Launch Odin
3. Unplug your phone.
4. Load the pit and pda files into odin.
5. Plug your phone back in. You should now see one of the small blocks turn yellow and show you the com port. If not, something is wrong with your drivers.
6. Click start. If it flashes, great. If it hangs at File analasys then repeat 1-5.
6a. If Odin hangs at cache.rfs then move on to 6b.
6b. Unplug your phone (Odin will say it was removed) and remove the battery. DO NOT SHUT DOWN ODIN!!!!!!
6c. Put the battery back in and plug it back into your computer and put it back into download mode using step 1.
6d. Press start on Odin and it should now flash.
Again, this worked for me, it may have been a fluke and I'm not willing to try it again. Good luck!!!
Does not boot!
What if the phone does not boot. All happened after I tried to flash the kernel back to the stock one. USB plugged in, battery is fully charged- still no sign of life. Any solution for that? No recover or download mode!

What have you done to put it in download mode? You should power off your phone, plug it into your computer. It should then enter the charge mode where you see a picture of your battery being charged (or if you were like me and screwed up somewhere you may see a little picture of a phone, computer and yellow triangle in between them). If you get either of those then press and hold all three VOL up, VOL down and power. AS SOON AS the screen goes black release ONLY Power and it should go into download mode.
If you plug your phone into your computer (powered off) and nothing happens then you just be bricked. Call TMO and play dumb and hopefully get a replacement.
Ok,
The_Chrome_Coyote really helped me!!!! Thank you so much and im back up and running. There was something missing from the original tutorial, not that we should be spoon fed but I didn't have the WinRAR program on my pc and didn't know I needed to extract anything. I was looking for exe. for it to be a program and just open it. It's a little more complicated than that. I added my additions in BOLD
The_Chrome_Coyote's Original post to me:
Odin isnt that hard, its just REALLY picky about working.
Firstly you need to download the Samsung drivers for your OS which can be found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
added:
Second you need to make sure you download WinRAR x86 (32 bit) 3.93 (google it and you should be able to get it) otherwise if your pc doesn't have a program to recognize rar and tar files, you are out of luck.
then read this thread from JAC:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
1. Now, Extract ODIN from its .rar and place the .exe on your desktop
2. Extract the .pit file from its.rar and place that on your desktop
3. Place the JFD .tar file on your desktop but DO NOT EXTRACT
Now you can use ODIN
4. Start ODIN Odin3. [Android + SLP], through ODIN select the .pit file
5. Hit "PDA" button, and through ODIN select the .tar file
6. Plug your TURNED OFF PHONE into the USB cable
7. Wait for the Battery/ charging indicator to start
8. HOLD VOL UP+ VOL DOWN+ POWER, as soon as the screen goes black RELEASE POWER, and continue to HOLD VOL UP+ VOL DOWN Until it enters download mode. Which should happen quickly and looks like a men at work highway sign.
9. If a COM port has turned Yellow in ODIN, then the device has been recognized. If it hasnt, unplug and plug your phone back in.
10. Dont select any options other than whats set at default.
11. Hit Start and be patient, takes me maybe 5 minutes to get back up and running.
NOTE: If you do not see a blue progress bar on the phone's screen after a minute;
11a. Turn your phone off by pulling the battery.
11b. CLOSE ODIN
11c. Start at step 4 again.
ODIN needs to be open and ready to flash before the phone is plugged in, in my experience. Its very picking about this, and not everyone has this issue, but I did and following all these steps helped me flash my phone more times than I can count the other day haha.
Hope this helped! and your $20, donate it to Wes, JAC, or Eugene to keep them making great stuff for our phone.

Same thing happened to mine when i tried odin. Now all i get sometime when it come on. are 7 rows of text that seems to be a code on screen in amber. Ishipped back 2 samsung. Since t-mobile won't take it after 14 days.
ok I screwed up guys.
I installed ROM manager from the market, flashed clockwork, it asked me if I wanted to partition and I said yes.
Now I just get a black screen at boot. I've managed to run odin and it says success. But I still just get a black screen after boot.
Little help?
I do have to say that if YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO EXTRACT A COMPRESSED FILE (RAR, ZIP,ETC) YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS FLASHING YOU'RE PHONE!! Odin or otherwise.
I am not being mean but at least stick to update.zip files flashed through recovery and make sure you read reviews of other users first, and understand the instructions completely.

If you can see the samsung logo you are fine. Load up recovery and try a full wipe first. If that fails then you can odin back to stock and root again.

1. If you have questions, there is a q and a forum for this device!!!!!!
2. THIS IS THE DEV PART OF THE FORUM. IE FOR DEVS POSTING STUFF FOR THE PHONE!!!!!
3. Learn how to Google. Not that hard. Example, you don't know what the *.rar extension is. GOOGLE IT!! Google knows everything.
4. If you don't have basic android or computer skills, don't try anything stupid. You do have a chance to brick your phone, even the pros like cyanogen have bricked their phones.
5. Don't offer cash for someone to fix your phone. Keep it in qna and some one will help you. Save your cash for the development that work hard on making these things work.
6. Can a mod please move this thread to qna.
7. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. USE THE SEARCH FINCTION BUILT ONTO THE FORUMS. IT WILL SAVE YOU TIME AND THEN YOU WILL NOT LOOK LIKE NOOBS THAT JUST GOT THIS PHONE BECAUSE IT HAD AVITAR IN THE BOX!!!!!

I FOUND A SOLUTION TO THE CACHE.RFS PROBLEM!!

Well i was going to install a custom rom on my samsung galaxy sii sgh-i777. i placed the 2 zip files on the sd card. I was rebooting in clockworkmod and my phone fell and the battery was knocked lose. the phone lost power and when i tried to turn it back on it would show the "rooted" home screed sgh i-9000 i think? and then dimly flicker a couple of time after that screen like it was trying to load but couldnt. i can open odin mode only while connected to computer? i cant access the drives at all. anyone have any suggestions? anything would be great! Thank you!
So you can't get into recovery while holding volume up+ volume down + power? If not, try pulling the battery while the charging cable is plugged in, leaving it out for like 10 second then putting it back in and trying recovery again. If you can't get into recovery, you'll have to Odin back to something. Have you tried getting into download mode, just tho see if you can? Plug the phone into the USB port of computer, and hold the same buttons you normally would to get into recovery.

Did the ROM flash and then you rebooted or you were just "rebooting in clockworkmod" If the ROM flashed are you sure you flashed an i777 ROM and not an i9100 ROM? Or did it stop in the middle of the flash? Where did you get the ROM from? I have a feeling you were on galxaysIIroot? More info I hope you can get some help here! GL

Sounds like you flashed something in Odin that was not for your phone. You probably need to get it J-tagged to get it fixed. Check out mobiletechvideos.com
It's like $50 dollars for the service, they'll J-tag your phone and flash the correct bootloader.

Since the phone will turn on, and initiate the boot process, it should be able to recover it yourself. Jtag is for true hard bricks, which your phone is NOT.
Please give a full description of what led up to your problem. What firmware was on the phone before, what did you attempt to flash, and anything that you can think of that would provide any additional information for trouble shooting. Also, a link to the firmware you tried to flash.

I put my i777 on download mode by removing the battery and putting it back. Hold the volume button down and connect the USB charger wait for the buttons to flash and disconnect the charger while holding the volume down button. If that doesn't work nothing will.

Try this:
Pull the battery and leave it out.
Hold down volume button and plug in the USB cable. (PC will supply the power)
This should boot the phone into download mode.
If the above works to get into download mode, do the following:
Download the I777 secondary bootloader .tar from the Download Repository. See the link in my signature.
Unplug the phone (to shut off)
Open Odin v1.85 on screen of pc.
Enter download mode as above.
When connected put the secondary bootloader in the PDA slot in Odin and flash.

Try this:
Pull the battery and leave it out.
Hold down volume button and plug in the USB cable. (PC will supply the power)

help please
I just recently got my SGS2 (i777) and decided to root it. Unfortunately I got the root from another site (dumb move) and today the phone went into a reboot loop. I can connect it and get it into download mode, but everytime I try to flash back to the stock rom, or anything else (bootloader) Odin says connection failed, unable to open COM Port. I know it connects because it installs the drivers for the phone. Can someone MUCH smarter that me assist with this one?

can you interrupt the bootloop by trying to get to recovery (holding VOL UP + VOL DOWN + POWER until recovery menu appears) and then go to backup-restore and restore a backup? That's what I would try. IF that does not work, I would reinstall the drivers for andoid on your pc --even though you had them working (presumably) once before. After reinstalling the drivers then odin should (may!) see the phone and work.
good luck
I have used the tutorial for rooting my phone, it goes through the first stage on pda flashing an insecure rom, phone reboots and i have the yellow triangle, then the phone just locks on black screen, tried running the easy root software, it connects to the phone then stops.
I can enter recovery mode and tried a different kernal but still same problem, Thanks in advance for any help.

download, unzip the downloaded file until u get a tar.md5 file
got o recovery and wipe data/factory reset (and format system, preload, data and cache if on a custom recovery, check under mount and storage)
reboot to download mode, plug your phone
open odin, click pda, select the tar.md5 file, hit start and wait.
if the phone does boot after flashing, wait a minute, reboot to recovery, wipe data/factory reset and reboot (even if the device boots at first time, i advise u to do this wipe anyway)
back working again, couldnt get into the recovery mode, tried the up volume home and power, also searched and tried the up down power also, all i want to do is unlock my phone lol

phone is working, but want it unlocking....cannot access recovery mode, tried Remove battery, and press vol up, home, and power. Release the power when samsung galaxy s2 appears but keep holding vol up and home.
phone it's working fine and you can't get into recovery mode?
Keep trying that combo, do it while the device is off, press it till you get there.
And why the hell do you want to get into recovery in order to unlock the phone?
Sent from the little guy
the guy above recommended i go to recovery and delete all data, so thats what i was trying to do, he also helped get my phone back working, is it possible to unlock without rooting ?
Yes, by getting the unlock code from your carrier.
I suggest you read a couple of threads before you attempt rooting it.

Hi guys.
Last night i was trying to help a mate root and flash a rom on his 7500, and for some reason booting into recovery/download mode seems impossible.
Tried every button combo, unless it's not the power button alone nothing happens.
Tried using adb to reboot into recovery and the bootloader, but all it did was turn the device off.
Has anyone ever encountered something like this?

i would just odin a new recovery on it. That way u know u have a working recovery to boot to. Dont forget to check the md5 of the recovery zip before u flash it.
Could you point me to an odin guide? This would be the first time i play around with a samsung device.
Plus all the ones i managed to find with my google-fu seem to have the required files missing, due to their age

Here is a Link to my Q&A thread. It has odin and an older cwm recovery tar that will work for the 7500...even though i say in the thread,7510 only.
Just use the odin in the zip and the recovery..not sure if the root zip will work. After u have the recovery on and boot the tab up. Go get new verion of twrp recovery for the 7500 and flash via recovery. When you reboot,it will ask to install root. Go ahead and let it.
Wait, but how am i to use odin if i can't reach download mode?

Try running the battery all the way dead and leave it for a day or two..then charge it all the way up and try again.
