i would do it no doubt
more ram , more support from great devs , bigger mass memory , better cpu/gpu , better screen and build quality , better battery options ie 2000mah for sgs2 , more up to date android roms (2.3.5) , better web browser with full 1080p support and smoother streaming , better camera and video recorder in real life useage
i am sure there are more reasons but of the top of my head in 30 seconds thats what came to me
if you can swap the lg for a sgs2 do it , even if you have to pay 100 and give your lg then do it
sgs2 is the best phone ive had , dont get me wrong the lg isnt bad , but it isnt a sgs2
saying that if your happy with the lg then keep it and wait for bigger and better like maybe the prime or the sgs3
it all depends on you really
me id do it

How's the battery backup ???
Sgs2 is goin to get ics rite??

depends what you do the device mate , if your streaming dvd quality rips via the web browser over 3g dont expect it to do miracles
if you use it for sms a few calls a little bit of browsing it lasts for ages
it usaully easily gets me through a day with good useage unless iam hammering gaming or hammering streaming apps over 3g , wifi streaming lasts longer but as with any smartphone 3g is a battery drain
my best out of the sgs2 is 6 hours screen time on , i watched 2 full films and had co-pilot running for approx 1 hour 45 mins the device was running leomar 2.6 , it was undervolted a little bit and running at 1.4ghz . it was ninph 2.0.1 kernel
its a great phone mate and battery life is decent , if you find the battery life is to short for you , you can upgrade it to the 2000mah battery its a genuine samsung battery

Cool m just on wid calling and texting,gtalk.....

Yes its not to ask.
S2> Optimus2x in any way.
You need to play a bit with kernels to find the one that fits at best your daily use to keep battery up but besides that, its a beast

I had the O2X with all its black screens and restarts...I can only say this: DO IT, as fast as possible. The O2X eats dirt compared to SGS2...And battery is about the same, maybe a bit better on SGS2.
And if you are interested in ICS, then we all know that it will NEVER come on O2X officially.

Wait for the Nexus Prime .

AOSP vs TouchWiz (battery life)

Which one tends to be better? Usually for HTC phones I find the aosp roms to trump the sense roms, but on my old Samsung Vibrant the aosp roms ALL had horrendous battery life!
Please lemme know your personal findings!
Thanks
BTW All posts will be thanked

I tried kj3 and cm7 #116 with siyah kernel on both and battery was the identical, cm7 felt smoother though. But some guys are able to squeeze 2 days of battery use while i can only do 1 day, so it also depends what apps you have running and how much you use the phone.

The same battery life? Interesting. In that case I'll probably choose Samsung roms for all the extra features and codec compatibilities.
Please! More opinions and thoughts!

Yup identical, i remember seeing people posting these great 2day battery life shots and they were all on samsung roms so i decided to give it a try. After i loaded the samsung rom and all of my apps/widgets from my cm7 rom the battery life was identical at the end of the day. I do miss that codec compatibility but mx video player takes care of that with ease.

As long as my display has consumed 70-75% at the end of my day (when my battery went from 100% to 20%) I don't bother looking at ways to eliminate the "drain" that some users have. Most, if not all, of the drain is installed on the outside of the screen.
Sure, when I put it in airplane modus inside a vault it lasts more than 5 days. Yay I must be a super tweaker.
i get about 17 hours with about 5.30 hours of display on samsung based ROM but then again it all depends on what you use your cell for
Thanks for all the input keep em coming!

Gotta Let you all in on Scotty's ROM

I just wanted to come over to the General forum and let you all know that Scotty's Clean 4.5 is probably the most amazing ROM I have ever seen on any device.
out of the box Antutu is 17500....I'm running 10.5 hours with 2 hrs screen time and I have 71% battery left.
seriously folks....it's all day zoom zoom and it looks and feels totally stock.
If you haven't tried it....for the love of Pete..."DO-IT MAUN!"
Man, ur playing with fire here. But I would have to agree, it is a pretty nice rom if you prefer the stock look.

I ran his roms when I had my gs3. Tbey were the best. Fast and everything worked. I havent tried any roms fpr tgis one yet but when I do it will be his rom first.

Yeah... I'm just letting people know tjere was a stock-ish rom with un believabke battery performance. I can't even remember where my extra battery is....I havent used it since I started using Clean.
Other roms are great...clean is...just amazing
I gotta give this a try
A couple of things...
Is everything working?
And of course the famous "is wifi tether working"?
And - how stock is stock? Do you get the horrible message in your pull down, "There are wifi networks available?", "Your wifi is off" blah blah blah. Man! That was irritating!
Thanks for any information.

Im at 1d, 10 hours and almost 1.5 hours screen time, I have 56% left....
Oh and stock.
Sorry but no zip rom dev will ever improve battery life without coding their own battery saving applications.
I am sure the rom is great, but don't credit battery life to it
Short of going to AOSP, you cannot significantly change battery life on any ROM compared to what it is based off of. So, if you make a ROM based on Stock TouchWiz, it is going to get approximately the same usage as the Stock ROM. If you have doubts, go do a comparison test. Even undervolting isn't going to do anything significant for you with modern day processors.

It has always been my belief that you use roms for features, not performance or battery claims.
I use Jelly Beans ROM 8 and the performance and battery life is 100 times difference. The battery with heavy usage was at 56% from 7am until 5pm. My Galaxy Note 2's performance without overclocking has been extremely fast in comparison to stock, I can now watch videos with any browser without the hour glass circle hanging for an extended period of time.

AOSP based ROM's can get you better performance and improve battery life (though I very rarely if have ever actually see the later).. At this time there are still issues with AOSP here and there.. most notably the gpu has either glitches or a memory leak (one or the other) and bluetooth is sketchy.
Zip ROM's or Stock ROMS will not change either performance or battery life by any real significance.
Basically I am reiterating what adrynalyne and imnuts said here

I disagree. Lol. I'm not a dev and don't know how to code (sure I'll get flamed) but here's how I see it:
"Debloating" does save my battery a bit. Some crap programs running in the background (at all times) that I never use, showing up in my battery stats and my running apps using xyz of my ram, apps that I *never* use (I mean NEVER opened) -- you don't think killing those (in effect - killing process) has any positive effect on ones battery life?
I think it does. I've tested it. One example: anything exchange related on this phone and the Note 2. Also: smart alarm clock. That damn widget never sleeps and I've never used it. My phone sleeps better without it and I do believe overall (with the other rogue apps I kill) my battery is better.
I'm ready to be proven wrong.

I don't notice as much now, but with older devices bloat had a huge impact on performance and battery life. On some of my phones blockbuster was one of the biggest battery hogs and I've never once opened that app. On my Droid X with 512mb ram it would start to lag at 90mb free, it was really bad once it got down to 70mb free, and would freeze at 50mb free. Before I first rooted I had to use a app killer before I used my phone so it wouldn't lag, and if I used it more than 20 minutes or so I had to run it again to stop the lag. Once I rooted I started using an app to set the memory to always keep 90 mb or more free and didn't have lag anymore, but the apps I was using would constantly redraw but bloat apps I never used would be eating up all my ram, I debloated it and have been fine ever since.

Those *things* you never used are backgrounded and harmless, despite perceptions.
I have never seen a battery use screen shot chock full of apps never used draining the battery. ...
Except Maps. That one is annoying.
I am fully stock still and almost 2d usage with 34 percent left.
This is with Scott's clean Rom 1.0. Maybe stock gives you the same battery performance. But this Rom is as smooth as butter.

battery life is great!
the phone is not laggy until we use it too much heavily. i prefer S3. :good:
The battery life is excellent, you can choose to root it and fool around trying different kernels and ROMs to try to boost your battery life. Its not laggy at all.
Currently using slimROM . After 11 hours and 50 minutes on battery, and using it for a total 3 hours 45 minutes with GPS, WIFI, 4G, tons of texting, browsing, and Facebook use, its not bad. . You would probably get better life on stock since TouchWiz has a much better battery life than AOSP ROMs

[Q] Thiking of getting an Xperia Sola for cheap. Worth it?

Ok so, as the title implies I'm thinking of getting an Xperia Sola on the cheapside (135€) almost brand new. However I do have a few questions:
1. Would you say the phone is worth the price?
2. Do you think it is a good phone?
3. I mostly use my phone for multitasking and gaming sometimes, so does it fit the bill? The 512RAM thing scares me, my Galaxy W said it had 512MB but it had like, 378MB.
4. How is custom rom development for the phone?
Cheers and thanks in advance
1. It's definitely worth its price, even when there is few cons.
2. More Yes than No, It has interesting design, a technology wich is available only for this phone only, called floating touch needs to be improved tho, but It's quite usable in browser. Built quality is not the best, could be better... after a while u will notice some squeaks and other noises it is fixable.
3. That's because there is usable RAM and non usable, can t really explain where the unusable goes, It has to function somewhere else in phone...available RAM is 368. It's enough if u stick with GB android version on ICS takes allmost 90% when no apps are working. Don t recommend to buy one if u are willing to update it to ICS... it would be a huge disaster!
4. I have seen some of the costum versions, for gaming as well, haven't tried yet, i am sticking with the stock one, for battery saving.

You can update to ics, its working flawlessly and even better im on jellybean for last month without hiccups. Nice phone good price...overall im satisfied. Dont listen about ics bugs, use custom kernel for better battery, performance is awesome. The mussing ram is allocated to gpu, mali eats quite a lot of ram.

[Q] HOX+ Temperature and Lag questions

Guys i've been wanting to buy HOX+ .. but i heard a lot of talk about the device overheating and also lagging cuz of the lack of RAM !!
plz i'm really confused here .. i like the stock sense interface a lot .. i got used to it and have been using it since i bought my HTC Incredible S even after trying a lot of different ROMS i came back to stock ...
I need HONEST opinions plz ... i'm a student and so far getting money is really hard for me ... i don't wanna buy something that i might regret buying later, or having to stick with it while i'm not satisfied... my questions are :
1. Does the HOX+ feel laggy when using the stock sense ?
2. What's with the overheating problem ? usually they say that it starts overheating and reaching temps of 55 and highier sometimes when gaming .. is that true ?!
3. Does it really lack RAM ? or is it the sense consuming a lot which makes it lag ? and will the sense 5 be lighter on the device than sense 4+ ?
4. and ofc .. should i buy or not ?
To anyone who will answer .. your help is much appreciated !! thanx a bunch in advance !!
Happy one x+ owner since february (would have bought the One but that 32gb think is definitely a no go, and i never bought anything but htc since 2007, but had the opportunity to play around with loads of gs2 and 3s...)
Enough with the intro, in everyday use its perfect, 1gig of ram is plenty for normal use, itll always sit between 680 and 870 with the stock rom. If you use it heavily, youll get no more lag than with any other android phone with 1gig of ram (example, try and launch skype, youtube, real racing, a heavy webpage and switch between them a lot and real quick with a gs3, same result.. worst case scenario, the phone will not respond for 20secs max and happens to me 1-2times/month tops).
Heats a lot, theres no denying that, while on heavy games (again, real racing, shadowgun, nfs, asphalt and drains battery pretty quick with those apps).
On a gps app (tomtom, navigon,...) It also heats a lot but then, the problem is that it also will stop charging (ex, with a car kit-charger) because of high voltage and will wait until its cooled down to go further with charging.
It feels just a tiny bit less snappier than a gs3 but nothing really noticeable.
Again, 64gb it something to own, all my music (10gigs) my game roms (15 gigs) and my apps and games (25gigs) still allow me some room to take loads pf pics and shoot videos.
Im on stock 4.1.2, still havent felt the need to flash anything on it and reports say that ot feels even snappier with sense 5, which appearently will use 100mb of ram less, says another xda fellow on the update post.
I have a german phone in belgium (same region) so i can update as soon as i get my update.
One tip though, since we cant remove the battery, i have planned on killing it to send it sometime close the the end of my warranty period for htc to replace it.
Last think i really appreciate, is that the case of this phone os made of rubber, which makes it very resistant to dropping and shocks (already fell 5times on concrete and the screen is intact - lucky me maybe?)
Sorry for the long post, i hope i could help bring the light on your interrogations.
Got mine brand new on ebay for 440€ btw.

Not during normal use. The only time I've seen it lag is when an app is misbehaving, which doesn't happen often
2. What's with the overheating problem ? usually they say that it starts overheating and reaching temps of 55 and highier sometimes when gaming .. is that true ?!
It does get pretty toasty. I hit the thermal cut-off (where the phone turns off on its own) once. If you see the green/red light flashing, stop doing what it is that you're doing and let it cool down.
OR you can download SU Root Tools from the market (it's free) and set a CPU temp status in the notification bar so you know what it's at. You can also have it sound an alarm when it goes above a certain temp. (It repeats "CPU temperature hot" over and over till it goes below the threshold you set)
3. Does it really lack RAM ? or is it the sense consuming a lot which makes it lag ? and will the sense 5 be lighter on the device than sense 4+ ?
Not in my opinion.

No problem. Not sure when the flashing warning lights come on, but I have the cpu temp in the notification bar like I said and the alarm set to 60. Anything over that, IMO, is too much.
And honestly, you'll feel it. You can feel it on the back and on the screen itself (at the top half).
Wahhh 60 ? The highest battery temp i hv got so far is 45.
I seldom play heavy games and i use my hox+ for whatsapping and chatting, listening to music and some internet browsing only, may sometimes play casual games, so the phone is really snappy on me.
In my opinion it really depends on ur usage, if u take photos/listen to music a lot HOX+ is definitely ur choice, but if u r going to flash ROMs/ doing a lot of multitasking maybe Nexus 4 suits u better
PS I'm on stock 4.1 rom, Sense 5 update hvnt reached my CID_622 yet

HTC One X+ is a great phone! Only if you want to play heavy demanding games, it maybe isn't the phone you're looking for. Don't get me wrong, performance of tegra 3 SoC is really good, but it is not the best for games anymore. But as far as i found our, the (most of times) small lags are related to GPU performance. And the "overheating problem" only occurs when playing really hardware demanding games.
But if gaming is only aminor matter to you, i think it is still a good choice! It has everything you need: more than enough cpu power for daily tasks, 64GB of memory and 1GB of ram, which is also enough for everything you could normally do.
And Thanks to the devs here there is still room for improvements, if you like to flash custom kernels and roms!
I use mine for gps a lot to track my runs with Endomondo and I've never had any heat from my HOX+, with some games yeah it gets hot but I'm in Vietnam so everything gets hot here anyway. Ive never had any freezes or shut downs due to heat. On average I get 2 days on the battery with light gaming, alot of sms, viber, Facebook and some browsing when I'm outside along with music. Overall I'm quite happy with this phone.

Actually heating has pretty much been fixed due to undervolting, cpu quiet governor an gpu decoupling, the gpu can run at full speed and the cpu can run at a lower frequency and voltage with more cores active. With sense 5, many of these tweaks aren`t even necessary as it uses a two stage ondemand which gives great idle and light usage batterylife and good performance when needed in games. Ram problems are also gone with sense 5, unreal engine 3 games used to reload the launcher in 4+ but in 5, even the animations remain smooth with the app in the background. The already great One X+ got even better with the sense 5 update.

hi
i have my hox+ for 1yr and i haven't experience any problem it does get hot when the cpu is at full capacity but is not a problem for me i get 1 1/2 to 2 days of moderate use.this is my gps my router my laptop my media player and it have never let me down so this is a phone that you will not regret buying trust me on this one. my wife have the gs3 and my brother in law have the iphone 5 and my phone is kicking ass......
The device does not lack ram. End of the day it has double the min requirements to run windows 7.....
Also on overheating .... It's a myth... Yeah the device does get hot. But what do you expect? When you put a fairly powerful quad core soc in a device with no cooling and little ventilation. It's gunna get hot. But all the overheating hype is cause by people who don't actually know what safe temps are. They feel the outside of there case get hot and start to worry, but they don't get that the phone has to dissipate heat some how.....

The cpu will throttle down before reaching unhealthy temperatures (I don't know the exact value). The only critical problem is the battery, which shouldn't be exposed to too high temperatures over longer periods of time.

but if you are a heavy user like me, you will have to brought a charger with you... and charge it twice a day
