I just bought a white SGS2 today for my wife. When I placed her SGS2 side by side with mine, I noticed that the brightness level is at least 2 step below mine. Eg, at the lowest level, hers is very much darker than my SGS2 set to the lowest level.
As a result, I cannot set the brightness to auto as it makes it very difficult to read in low light conditions when it sets to the lowest level, ie it is too dark.
Anyone with the same problem? Or anyone knows if I can change the brightness scale to be brighter?
Edit: Forgot to say that both SGS2 are running on the same ROM and kernel as per my signature.

I was just standing outiside and noticed that I couldn't read the screen of my new Galaxy S2 which I never noticed on my Nexus S. So I compared the two in direct sunlight.
Isn't the sAMOLED+ supposed to be brighter than the original sAMOLED screen?
Is my screen less bright than other sAMOLED+ screens?
My Galaxy S 2 is definatly brighter in sunlight than my Nexus S.
although i have turned off my auto brightness and whacked it right up on both..
At brightness zero the nexus s is brighter than the galaxy s 2.
I noticed that in bright sunlight, I can't see the screen at all on my SGSG2 with it set to zero, which causes a bit of a problem upping the brightness! On the Nexus, I could see well enough to change it.
I think at full brightness though, the SGS2 is brighter. My retinas haven't recovered from accidentally setting 100% whilst reading at night.
I've been wondering whether there is a way to boost the brightness, I was going to make a topic about it.
Some reviews I've seen say they had to turn the screen down to lowest brightness as the screen is so bright, etc. however my screen is nothing special in terms of brightness really and I have it on full, with auto adjust off colours are good though.

yes, I did that. the pictures are taken with both screens on 100%
I guess my screen is just not as bright as others :/
Also, under Settings -> Display, make sure that "Auto Adjust Screen power" is disabled... this option tries to save some battery by lowering the brightness when the image displayed is brighter : It can be useful in movies but it's just useless and annoying when you're browsing or reading.
PS : And SuperAMOLED+ is not supposed to be brighter than sAMOLED, it's the same without the pentile matrix. When samsung announced an improvement in battery life and brightness they were still comparing it to LCD screens from a few years ago.

and yes, your probably right about samsungs claims as well, I probably subconsciously interpreted samsungs claims the best way possible ... (so I had a reason to go buy it).

well it is possible to increase the brightness but it takes some development, like supercurrio did for the 2.3.3 kernel for the nexus s and cm7 sgs1 kernel with the voodoo app.
Dont know if hes gonna do the same for the sgs2, i really like it on my sgs1 for sure.

Hi , i found a bug on Nokia Lumia 800 BrightnessSetuo.
If you diseablle Automatic Brightness, and put it manual on medium or high, the three touch Buttons dont have light, only when Brigthnes is on Automatic or on Low (manaal) wrok.
I hope nokia fix these bug soon.

This is not a bug this is a fix given by nokia to increase battery performance.
I also thought it was a bug but checked the nokia forums and in the change log of the latest update it is mentioned that the bottol capacitive button keys only light up if you have ur brightness set to low or auto
My believe is that is is by design. If you're in a place dim enough to struggle to see the capacitive keys, you'll not be using med or high brightness as it will blind you.
Likewise, when you're outside and needing a higher brightness, the ambient light will easily be enough to see the capacitive keys.
I almost always have brightness on low so this change doesn't really affect me. Medium brightness hurts my eyes in darker environment. The only time I crank it up to medium is when I'm outside. Sometimes I'm even on low outside if it's not too light. I never think I will use the highest brightness setting.

blah blah blah....sorry, but you are not representative for 99% of all users. Nice for YOU that YOU prefer low brightness. But most of us users like at least medium brightness in darker areas because the AMOLED contrast and colours are bad and washed out when in low brightness mode. I want to decide myself if i have the button lights on/off with medium or bright display settings.
Finally this "update" is a reason for me not to buy the lumia 800...shame on nokia!

Have you guys tried Auto brightness?
It goes all the way to minimum brightness if you use the phone in the dark.
The bottom buttons are lit up too.
I tried out the auto brightness for the first time today. Seems to work well. It places itself in between low/mid brightness in an ordinary lit room which is fine for me. And as you say the bottom buttons are always lit even if the brightness goes up to full strenght.
Think I'm gonna use auto brightness a bit more and see if it behaves good at all times.
Iam not sure if any of the one x+ owners out there have experienced this problem. When watching a video, for example using the YouTube app, depending of the type of scene being shown, whether it be an indoor or an outdoor scene, the phone has this gradual change of the the screen brightness level. Now mind you, the display brightness is set to about 15 to 20% and auto brightness is off. Its noticeable as the phone seems to take a second or two to adjust to the new environment within the video.
The dimming issue is also noticeable using the browser, especially when viewing a very dark image and then switch over to a bright one. The phone dims a little when you display the dark image and as you transition to the brighter image it will slowly brighten a little.
This problem can become distracting especially when watching videos that have a lot of transitions between light and dark scenes.
Its less noticeable at brightness levels above 60 to 70%, but i find using the phone at such high brightness level at night irritating to the eyes.
Its annoying since the screen doesn't stay on one consistent brightness level. all the phones i have used before, S3, EVO 3D, S2, NOTE don't show this problem. it doesn't matter what scene is being displayed on the phone, they all maintained constant brightness levels

I’m not complaining about the brightness of Samsung panels, but the one thing I never could get adjusted with is how whites with APL that’s over 80% look; they’re under 400 cm/nits of brightness on the maximum manual brightness settings. The iPhone X’s OLED display doesn’t have this issue, achieving over 620 cm/nits on max manual brightness.
With the automatic brightness boost from high ambient lighting, the high APL whites being displayed on the S9 match that figure over the iPhone X. Is there a root or at least a theoretical method to get that brightness setting at all, rather than under situational conditions?

I don't know to be honest, but even the Galaxy S6 back then had that boost, so maybe you should search for a method for the s6 / s7 / s8 first to be sure it is possible.
