change text colours - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

anyone knows wich files i have to edit to change the text colous, for example the settings in the original rom as blue text in the criskelo as green.
if i put the criskelo framework in other roms this text changes to green but also changes others that i dont want to change.
so i think the files are inside the framework.res but dont know what files to change.
thanks in advance.

hack, hack, hack, all day long...

hey there...i was wondering if anyone could take a sec to help a n00b out...
i've been working on a rom (6.5 build 23544) using Ervius visual Kitchen for gene by BesFen for a few days...i've finally found all the packages i want and made a few ones myself...i made a test rom and its running well...
but there's still one huge hole left in my finished build...so i just needed some help i.e. needed to know a few things
1. where do i change the the default splash screen (the orange windows image) that pops up after the boot screen
2. where to replace the startup gif image and wav sound
3. how to set an external theme as my default and removing the inbuilt themes that come bundled with the 6.5 builds
4. how to change the default icons (i have an icon pack as well a cab file of the same)
5. if there is a way to set up a shutdown animation and splash screen in the kitchen before creating the rom
6. edit any other settings and tweaks while still in the kitchen phase
7. change the start menu icons for the softkey buttons and start menu
8. edit the taskbar and softkey bar to make it transparent on the today screen as well as inside the menu
9. remove default ringtones and replace them with our own
i tried searching the net and going through the posts here but i'm drawing blanks...
i'd appreciate any solutions that come my way!!
solutions!!
found a few solutions myself...a lil' help from the boards...
if anyone else is interested in them, here they are-
1. the splash screen can be changed by replacing the welcomehead.96.png in the "SYS\28230\dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\COMMON\Redist_dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\" folder file with your own
while you're at it, you could replace the complete.96.gif file too
*but make sure that you have edited your images to the correct format and resolution before making the changes
2. the animated.gif and bootuphtc.wav files in the "kitchen\OEM\OLDGENE\COMMON\OEMOPERATORS" folder can be replaced with your own
4. add your icons in the "kitchen\SYS\28230\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96" folder thereby replacing the default icons
*make sure that the names of the icons you add to this folder is the same as the default icons
6. to change the rom's date and give it your own name, make changes in the "mxipupdate_OEMVERSION_100.provxml" file in the "kitchen\OEM\OLDGENE\COMMON\OEMVERSION" folder,
this can be done by opening the file in notepad and making your changes in the 'value' section
do correct me or suggest an easier method if known to you
as for problems 3,5,7,8 and 9...research and testing is underway...hope to get past that hurdle soon...
use the attached folder and put it inside OEM
solve your ringtone by editing the *.rgu file and initflashfiles.txt file available in this folder
solve your theme problem by editing the *.rgu file and initflashfiles.txt file available in this folder
Note: I have used two different mp3 file for ringtone n message notification

any idea about gettin transparent task bars and menu bars??
i wanted to make them completely transparent, not transluscent...
i've gotten transluscent ones working in the start menu but i can't do anything about the today screen!!
i am also searching how to add new theme...but i found this is..

you could just add the theme you want ( in .tsk format) in the kitchen\SYS\Themes_Lang_0409_DPI_96_RESH_240_RESV_320 folder...
tried it out and worked well...
all you have to do is go into settings\today\ when the phone starts and select which one you want...
as for setting your own theme as default...clueless...
guessing you have to extract all files from the theme and place them in the kitchen\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96 folder and edit dsm and rgu's from somewhere to set it as default
personally...i've found a loophole to the whole theme problem (pardon the pun) so i don't bother with it anymore
more solutions...
3. to remove the inbuilt themes like dvf green, vera wang red, etc. etc. just delete the theme_dpi_96 folder in the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96\COMMON folder...
to add your own themes copy the .tsk files into the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\0409\Themes_Lang_0409_DPI_96_RESH_240_RESV_320 folder and delete the inbuilt .tsk files you'll find there
*NOTE*
for those who want to have a modified theme, i suggest editing the .png images in the folder mentioned below...the ones with "classicblue" "default" and "black" at the start of their name to your preference and leaving the classicblue.tsk file untouched so that this theme becomes your own in case you install another theme and want to go back to your edited theme
7. edit the .png images in the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96 folder...
the softkey icons are the ones with names like default_toolbarIconBubbleButton.png...they're all around the same area, so easy to find...
for editing, i suggest using photoshop of you have it, else an easier alternative is the paint.net editor available at http://paint.net
8. now i couldn't get a transparent taskbar and softkey bar on the today screen without using titanium but i did manage to get it to be fractionally more translucent but editing the .png files found in the folder mentioned above
i'll attach the files if needed...
my ROM's coming along so i'll keep you posted with more solutions as they come along...have fun cooking!!
Suggestion
Remove all landscape theme files, bcs no-one uses the GENE in landscape mode and it will make the ROM lighter in weight

the rom i'm working on (and using for testing purposes) doesn't have landscape theme files...i've just added the wallpaper for kicks...

[Q] Need help modifying framework-res.apk or twframework-res.apk and services.jar

Hello, maybe this is the wrong thread but i seem to not be getting any help over at Q&A's... I'm porting a theme from the captivate forums and for some reason my dropdown notifications have a transparent background and the text is black as well for any popup window like when you long press the homescreen to get widgets, and wallpaper chooser, so i think i need to modify either the framework-res.apk or the twframework-res.apk but don't kno exactly what file to modify to either get the text to white or get a background on those things... if anyone would advice me i'd appreciate it... thanks
Also if anyone could guide me into modifying the services.jar to change the clock color i would also appreciate it...
THIS IS THE LINK TO WHAT IM WORKING ON

its in framework-res.apk/res/layout
the notification pulldown background is in
twframework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi

Well for the notification pulldown background ive got the one i wanted... what im referring to is when u have a notification, for instance you downloaded something from the market and u get successfully downloaded that one notification has no background it is set to transpare t and the letters are black so i can really read what it says...
anybody wishing to help?
If it is an image you need to edit to be non-black/transparent the file I think you're looking for is called "status_bar_item_background_normal.9.png"
Change that to a totally opposite color and see if that's it?
If you mean editing the color of the letters then I do not know what to edit in the .xml file.
Hope I helped!
How can I modify the XML files? 'cause when I extract them from apk file, all of them are protected, I can't read any codes. Can anyone show me how to fully unprotected them?
P/s: I always get this error "An invalid character was found in text content. Error processing resource..." whenever I open xml file with IE.

they must be decompiled with apk manager
additionally when you recompile make sure to check the log as there will be several images that will be renamed from. 9.png to png you must use the draw9patch program found in the tools folder of the android ask to 9patch these images otherwise your apks will not compile correctly. Im on my phone now so I can't provide the necessary video link how ever simply go on youtube and search how to use draw9patch there is a very good beginners explanation (2 part) of what a 9 patch is and how to use the 9 patch utility

are all of images in "res/drawable-hdpi" folder 9.png formated files? or just some of them?

it varies, they can be in any folder really, but generally speaking that is where you will find most of them. Just check the logs and you will know exactly where to find them and what they were named.

am trying to edit the framework-res.apk
am trying to change the images of the slider (jog_dial_bg_rev.png) but when i save it and then install or move the .apk to system/framework folder
the phone crashes? has this got anything to do with the MD5?
all i wanna do is change the slider image based on the CM7 pro v20 ROM
my reason is because the black shadow covers the incoming call number

[Q] How to add custom image to Notification Bar in GS2 ??

i have seen a featured article in which some one just pulls out the framework-res.apk from the phone, replaces the images and pushes the framework-res.apk back to system/framework to change a certain part of the theme..
i actually tried doing the same with the notification bar backround. i had to look for that file which is actually taking the backround of the notification bar.. which i m pretty sure is located in res/drawable-hdpi/status_bar_background.png
i have attached that png so that you can see for yourself that it is that image which shows up in the backround of the notification bar.. but! when i replace the png with my custom one and push it back to its directory, but! it still doesnt make any difference.. anyone knows how to do it? does it have anything to do with the attributes of the file? anyone??
I want to know the same, but, I'm pretty sure you have the wrong APK, because when I open de SystemUI.apk, I find a file called: status_bar_background.png, but I'm not pretty sure if we can just edit it and push the file back to the phone...

i m not sure if its wrong or not, its just not working.. the thread where i took this idea from, also had the same file i am talking about plus i also have the same file name in framework-res.apk as you have in you systemUi.apk .. there was a word about twframework-res.apk too. i tried that too but it didnt have that kinda of file..
other than that, what do you think about the image that i've attached? isnt it the backround we have on gs2's notification bar?
and about pushing it back after adding the image file with winrar, ppl have it working on other phones.. but i had no luck with gs2..
Hmm weird I looked at the same file you attached, and looked at the file name and I'm running lite ning pro, and in systemui.apk, I have a file with the same filename as your attahment, and it looks like the file we need. I will try tomorrow to change it.

(Q)/(REQ) Black notification bar

Is there a black notification bar? I'm running stock with root if that helps.
Im not looking for a complete theme, just the notification bar.
If there isn't one that can't be installed, is there a way I can edit the notification bar's white image within the system files?
Thanks in advance

If you change the notification bar to black, you need to change date/time/notification ticker colours to white. Since you are on stock, you will need to mod the framework-res.apk and services.jar file to accomplish that.

I'll give directions for that. If it seems to much for you, send me the framework-res.apk and services.jar file from your rom and i'll mod it for you.
Clock color change : here.
Date/Ticker color change : here
To change the actual status bar to black, you have to replace the statusbar_background.9.png file in framework-res.apk under /res/drawable-hdpi folder with a black one. Easiest way to do that is to pull it out from any theme that has it.

Volume Indicator

Can someone tell me where the volume indicator is kept?
I thought it was in the settings.apk "res\drawable-hdpi\app_gauge.9.png"
I changed from green to blue, erased cache and rebooted but it's still green.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thx,
Dave

It's actually in progress_horizontal.xml in the drawable folder in framework-res.apk. There's a start color and an end color that define the gradient
Thanks.
I installed Notepad++ to look at the code and all I get is garbage that I can't make out.
Do you know if there is a setting in Notepad++ to make this viewable or another software I could use to edit this?
You have to decompile the apk first. You have to use apktool (http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/) or another utility based on it, like apkmanager
