Place your ics bets here. - HTC EVO 3D

How long do you think until ics is booting on our 3ds?
I place my bet for four days after a system dump drops.

My wife hates XDA

htc............april, may

Here's what I'd say...
Bootable on Evo 3D (bootable, but half the stuff won't work) - A few weeks after dump
Stable Bootable (still no 4G, bluetooth, 3D, etc.) - A few weeks-two months after dump
Cyanogenmod 9 (pre-alpha) - A few weeks after stable bootable
HTC Official Update - 3-4 months after official release

why you say that??? given CM7 status unless toast has a magic trick up his sleeve id say your way off there.
It took them a full month to get 2.2(CM6) on the Evo4G from when the source dropped. least it wasn't released to public till then in nightly build form at that from what i remember.
It takes a while to compile a full build here, they are building from scratch for most part here.
and 2.3 code was released in Dec '10 and the CM7 STABLE version wasn't released till april '11 i think according to their site. yes there were many nightly builds before that but i dont remember nor can i tell by cyanogenmod's site since nightlys are only shown for cm7 now.
but like i said in the other thread toast is not one to doubt on anything as the guy does magical things all the time so anything is possible.

2-3 months for a stable/complete build after the dump.

It's funny that with all of the new enhancements and UI tweaks that Google has put into ICS, undoubtedly HTC will still push Sense on top of it all to make any update to 4.0 unseen in every way (and still take months to release their "interpretation" of it).
5-6 weeks for an alpha build of CM to hit our phones.
3-doesitreallyevenmatter months for the Sense rendition to hit.

I'm guessing we will see a.other revision of sense to compliment ics... Ateast that's what I would do if u was them,,, just give us the widgets and the apps, Rosie can eat a d*$%

Idk when we'll see it, but you can boot it on your PC right now:

(Forgot about that whole "SDK includes emulator" feature at first.)
If anyone gets this running before I do, please report back!

Same here. Early next year, my wife's contract is up with Verizon and she'll be switching to Sprint. She's volunteered to take my Evo 3D and I plan on snagging either a Galaxy Nexus or whatever the new hotness is at the time. I've always wanted one of the Nexus variants so that's probably what I'll end up with.

We’ve been hard at work on CM9 since Google released Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) into the wild last month, and things are slowly starting to come together. Google did a great job with ICS and added some really awesome features which in some cases replace or deprecate functionality that we had in CM7, so we are reevaluating all of our customizations. A number of devices are already up and running with CM9, and the focus is currently on getting as many devices ready as we can. The first devices (besides the Nexus S, which you can already get from Koush’s section on ROM Manager) that we’ll have ready will mostly likely be devices based on OMAP4, MSM8660/7X30, and Exynos. We also have some Tegra2 tablets in the pipeline such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Asus Transformer. Our goal is to provide continued support to all CM7 devices back to the QSD8250 series of devices such as the Nexus One. I don’t want to make any promises at this time, but that is the plan. And sorry Droid1 owners, we’re dropping support for you. Time to upgrade
There are a number of challenges that we are up against. Google has made some pretty major changes to the Android framework that break compatibility with older proprietary camera and graphics drivers in order to achieve some pretty insane performance, but I am confident that the team will be able to overcome these issues like we have in the past.
For those of you who like to build CM from source yourself, you probably know that the spin-up time when starting a CM7 build is absurdly long due to the high number of devices in our repository. Koush and Arcee have put together a solution to this problem that adds new devices on-demand to your local repository, saving on both bandwidth and the long startup time. Some other great enhancements are coming too, like a completely overhauled music app, a new file manager, and a new launcher based on stock 4.0.
If you have a Nexus S, you can check out the code and build for yourself today. More devices are on the way, and I’ll send out these status updates as we make more progress.

Toastcfh seems to be subjectively farther ahead. Nobody has a working camera, 4g or 3D yet, but toastcfh has a camera that opens---its a greened out viewfinder but joelz and decks don't do that yet afaik. For features and functionality the three are very close, to me, toastcfh seems the smoothest, but it's subjective

Would have to agree. An opening camera app is definitely ahead of a not working camera app. This way we can see what is happening, just the balance is way off. I read something about HTC releasing a bunch of drivers a while back. I wonder if the camera drivers were with it. Could have been the Sensation. They get all the love from HTC.
I have been running this version of ICS since the 27th and it is far and beyond the best operating ICS build out for our phones. Been alternating between Kush Deck's, JoelZ, Evervolv and AOKP and frankly AOKP has the best feature set but Toast's CM9 has the least amount of bugs. Data is stable, swithching between roaming and home networks doesn't require toggling Airplane mode, the T9 search on the dial pad doesn't hang the dialer, video playback is perfect, 720p in youtube from the browser's Flash plugin works smothly, all my games are working perfect without touch screen issues etc. Not to mention the camera at least turns on!
All that is missing in my eyes are some of the Lockscreen mods that I saw on AOKP regarding adding extra launchable apps from the lock ring. Another nice to have would be AOKP's version of the Notification area toggles and brightness control wich I liked better than CM's implementation but that isn't a huge deal.

It really shouldnt take them very long. google did a great job with jellybean. making it extremely compatible with all kinds of hardware. for ics we had to pull ~50 commits to frameworks from qcom to get display working. on jellybean...zero. it just works. no hacks required. google really outdid themselves this time. (also cudos to caf for releasing the display drivers same day!!) just took me 3 days to realize that yea they do work lol.
So in theory it shouldnt be too hard to get jellybean up and running on devices that have aosp 4.0. Correct?

Jellybean Shortage?

I am considering the EVO LTE when I upgrade in September, but one thing that is holding me back is the lack of CM or stock roms. I know there is one that is almost at daily driver status, but in the EVO 4G section there are several jellybean roms. Is this due to some source code HTC or Sprint is not releasing yet? If there were more community support, I would jump on this phone, but this issue is a serious blow. If anyone could explain this, many thanks.
Cm10 is practically fully working for our phone thanks to kushdeck... You have to connect to irc for the downloads... The irc link is in the cm9 forum somewhere....
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I'm sure you meant something else, but there are a BOATLOAD of "stock ROMs" for this phone. If you mean AOSP, then no, there aren't a lot yet. I'm told that due to a lack of kernel source. However, there is CM10 that is pretty much done. Everything mostly works. Video, camera, SMS, MMS, audio, calls, gallery, WiFi, 3G, 4G, NFC, Bluetooth, Google Now.... It's ready to go. Get this phone and stop worrying about that. I would never dream of going back to the OG EVO. It's a rock and the screen looks archaic to me now. I guarantee CM10 on this thing looks WAAAAAY better than it does on the OG EVO.

Once cm10 is officially released youll start to see AOKP and MIUI
BTW, we're officially supported for cm10, expect builds from the CM team soon.
When did we get official support? The sensation seemed to be the only official supported HTC device last time I checked... It was quite awhile ago that I looked into it though... Glad to see we're getting official support though... Even after all the hard work kushdeck and his team have put into it...

Yep, that's the way it works. From what I've gathered, they want everything to be working for the most part because the CM team doesn't want to focus on fixing everything. They support so many devices that they can't spend their time solving all of the problems that pop up. Now that we have it working they can just release builds for us.
I've been running CM10 for the past couple weeks and you couldn't pay me to go back to that Sense crap

Been running cm10 as a daily for the last 2 weeks. So you can't say its "almost a daily driver"
Once cm10 is officially released youll start to see AOKP and MIUI
BTW, we're officially supported for cm10, expect builds from the CM team soon.

I can't, you have to get it from the irc. Easiest way to get in there is the sticky in the general section

Yea really. I read in every thread that we have cm10. But there is no cm10 thread. I mean wtf? I don't have time to go read through hundreds of pages in some other thread to get a little info about it.
Can we get a cmx thread or not? What is going on?

A CMX thread will come when Kush feels like CMX is ready, until then go to the IRC Sticky in the General Section and get it thru there

If you aren't prepared to do very minimal reading and to exert a little effort, then you'll just have to wait until Deck is ready to share the builds with the public.
Sorry if I came across as abrasive or ungrateful. I didn't mean to come across like that.
I just find it odd that there is no thread to discuss cm10 and that in turn causes a lot of other threads to go off topic because nobody has a central place to discuss what everybody is discussing.

It isn't ready. You will see people say it is a daily driver because they want AOSP really bad or whatever. Once kush decides it is good enough to be a daily driver you will see a thread pop up. Until then it is an Alpha or Beta or whatever you want to call it and you need to seek it out.

There is a thread actually, but it is disguised as a CM9 thread.

Wimax shooter

Ok I have been working on getting wimax working in the evervolv jellybean build. I have spent the week only about an hour a day (darn kids won't leave me alone 8)) setting it all up. Im able to bring up the wimax menu and attempt to connect. My problem is that i can get the wimax server to start. If I rip apart cm10's boot img and input my kernel leaving everything alone it boots up wimax server and im able to run with no problem well other problems because im using a little different setup. So I have it down to the boot img specificly the files inside initrd.img. I have reviewed all those files and can't seem to find anything wrong. Everything is setup properly from what i can tell. Im stuck and i know there is alot of great people on this fourms that will help me . I have a github with my device tree and kernel for review https://github.com/flintman
Pre thanks

Good luck Flintman!! I'll be cheering you on!!:highfive::good:
evervolv JB is a source built rom....
if you set up your github and repos to sync evervolv
then all u need to do is fork cmwimaxsettings
then cherry pick two commits to add the wimax
PM me for links and details

It's not as easy as that... We had to do some more modifications to get it working tonight (flintman and myself). Seems that most aosp jellybean builds had been using a prebuilt HTC init binary, but we figured out how to get around this. At least everything seems to be working properly now. Flintman will be testing it out later tomorrow morning.
Working Great. I posted under comments in gerrit. I notice one more small thing.
So hows the progress

Thanks for the headsup....
forgot AOSP is alot different than CM10
and may depend on some different things
Im glad to see you got it up and running
Sorry I have been very busy this is working in evervolv. The status bar indicator isn't working yet. I'm on hold with that until 4.2 has been fully merge. Once the merge is complete I want to fix the indicator then move onto another broken feature. Thanks to prelude for the help in getting a fully working WiMAXwith thether capabilities

Not before I get mine in april
are there wimax drivers that are released, i want to experiment putting wimax in a sense 4 rom
You know I have posted in my public github how I got Wimax working in my MIUI jb builds although I haven't updated it on there since September. What I've learned while trying to get it to work on sense based ROMs is that HTC has about 10000 lines of fairly useless code to sort through to get it going. In most sense ROMs for our device, and of course this is all smali, everything you need is in framework.jar, only the connection service email in services.jar, wimax.jar of course, and believe it or not the bear of the whole thing Settings. apk. Settings is where my focus has been on DH Miui ICS. See settings has all the action for the most part such as all the messy HTCPreference* classes. Those classes are crazy in the sense that there are so many events triggered in each one that most of my days trying to get it to work have been spent trying to follow all of these events to see which ones are necessary and which aren't. The Aosp wimax on our devices only requires a third of that editing and the rest is getting the right libs and modules for the most part. If you do a grep of the word wimax after decompiling everything in the sense roms you'll see all of the places you need to mess with and sometimes write your own smali classes from scratch for the most part. I believe someone could do it without much difficulty but its the time it will take that's most likely the hardest part. As long as you have the correct binaries.
