Hi guys,
i just flashed a new miui based rom and i found that my phone is tuned to a less desired frequency. i didn't have this problem while using a stock based rom. I am just wondering which part of the system should i be looking at to see the difference between the two roms?
i tried looking into the library directory, but i can't read .so files on my windows pc, besides i dont' even know if i'm looking at the right part.
anyone got any ideas? devs?

[Q] Question on porting build.prop changes

I am currently playing around with customizing my own rom for personal use based of the plain de-odexed rom. I have added various packages like:
Camera mod
oc4 1.2 jac kernal
mobileAP
some custom themes and fonts
swype with voice icon
GPS files from leak
ect
My question is with all the main roms (eugene and Bionix) released there are always references to "Build.prop mods for better data throughput", how can I take JUST THOSE CHANGES and port them into my rom. Is it as simple as using abd pull and push with certain files? Do I need someone to make me a flashable zip package?
Also I noticed eugene in his latest build used a different camera and would love to try that is that just as simple as adb pull and pushing the camera apk?
Any help provided would be truly appreciated I am still kinda a noob.
Also just to be EXTREMELY clear this is only for my personal use and basic knowledge. I wish to take nothing away form the absolutely stellar work these guys do everyday, I simply have some different preferences then the main roms created and would love to learn to take the advantages of each rom and customize them to my own needs.
No one can help me out?
Should I ask in dev section as no one here seems to have any ideas?
I'm in same boat
I am doing the same.i noticed in bionix build.prop the symlinks. I like that.but he also references a "jit" did they port a jit? that would rock

Help! Newbie Question

Currently I have a VS G-Tablet running VegANtab 7.0.0. It's a miracle that I was somehow able to install that rom without significant problems. I like VegANtab, but I find myself longing for the old stock interface (dashboard launcher) and the old apps which I cannot duplicate through the app store or at least I cannot find any self-contained calendar or contacts apps that do not sync to a google account. (I hate that syncing.)
So I'm looking for a way to run the old interface on a more current rom. I understand that this is TnT which is not VegANtab. I've searched the internet for ways to do this, and the results I received have left my head spinning.
Apparently, it is possible to do so with something called a Caulkin rom. What is a Caulkin rom? Something like TnT or CyanogenMod? I've never come across it before. Is the Caulkin rom just a kernel, and I have to install another rom together with it?
Can anyone point me to some info about this rom and to where I can download it?
Thanks.
There is a thread for Caulkulin's rom in the development section. It's just a seperate Rom, like the Vegan that you're using, or the original TNT was. Basically, you just flash it like you did the Vegan 7 Rom that you've already flashed.
It's called Caulkulin/Clemysn because it also comes with a custom kernel developed by Clemsyn. For instance, with you're vegantab 7 rom, you could always also flash a kernel, Clemysn, Pershoot, etc...but with the Caulkulin one, it comes packaged with the Rom.
There are many, many roms out there, now..it's basically up to you ot find one that makes you happy. some are ports of other systems roms, while others are more built from scratch using information that is available.

[Q] What consist in a ROM

Hi,
I am new to android phone. I see on the Android development threads, there are multiple version of ROM
My question is what does a ROM consist of?
1. kernel
2. boot loader?
3. Apps comes with phone (e.g. Setting app, Phone app)
4. android framework
5. radio drivers?
6. gps drivers?
and my next question is for different version of ROM what are the differences?
I know some are porting CM9 some are porting vanilla android source.
But are these rom have the same kernel? same radio drivers /gps drivers/etc?
Thank you.
A rom is a tar file, meaning an ancient and common type of Unix/Linux archive.
You can see exactly what is inside one by executing
tar -tf <rom>
You can even do this on your phone if you have a good rom.

first question the Vibrant roms usually have all you listed except for #2 bootloaders (with a very few exceptions)
Different roms will have different kernels, framework and gps libraries. there are a few radios to pick from.
Most ROMs have all of that, except sometimes the bootloaders. Major differences in the ROMs are the Android version, appearance and customization. Some ROMs have bugs, though, like GPS won't work or it take a while to connect to wifi. You can usually find out about these bugs if you read some of the comments on the ROM page.
Thanks. The shipped ROM must have a working GPS, WiFi , Radio, Camera, Audio, Speaker, right?
But when I follow the 'Vibrant Development' threads for custom ROM, I see some ROM has GPS issue, others have Mute/unmute problem, wifi issue, etc etc.
My question is when creating these custom ROM, why can't one just copy these drivers from shipped ROM and have everything works?
Thanks.

The last shipped Rom for the Vibrant was a long time ago and was a 2.2 froyo rom. Everything will work if you choose a custom rom based on 2.2.
The drivers, libraries for 2.3.x Gingerbread and 4.0.x ICS don't exist for the Vibrant so the devs mix and match libraries from other phones and old 2.2 stuff.
Sometimes it works, other time not. It's incredable we even have a working ICS despite the bugs.

[Q] Cant download any roms

Hello people im a noob i know, but ive searched the entire forum ive read the threads on developmente with [ROM], but i can never download a working rom, what m i doing rong, are you all hiding the roms.
P.s - After following several tutorials i have rooted and installed rom manager and clockworkmod on my viewpad7 so i just cant find any roms to test it, thank you in advance.
Anyone, really i can find the place to download them, i found a link to a paid website, and then it says private, other then that nothing.
Can anyone help me ??
Is that a big secret ?
Im still searching, can someone give me a reliable link ? PLEASE
Welcome, I'm not sure which specific custom ROM for the Vpad7 you are looking for, it would help if you can be spell it out ...
You are aware that newer ones are ITE (multi-touch screen) hardware/firmware based and older/generic/other name-branded ones are non-ITE, and the few Roms developed mostly in 2011 are distinct for each group.
Any and all files, including ROMS, patches and downloads housed on multiupload.com sites have been DOWN and unavailable as those servers have all been offline and shut - for good apparently, as in permanent. (Goggle for what happened, as you obviously are unaware as newbie around here ... as I won't go into details)
The EU V1.7b (ITE verison) is available via my dropbox as OP has been away & will have a new link up shortly - see below & perhaps you will better understood.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224825&page=31
Another recently posted ROM - KWBR V3.2 based on U.K. ROM (also for ITE) and is available for use, I successfully downloaded it & used it briefly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386469
FlintFire_V1.0 zip download seemed to be available as it's also housed on a DropBox account
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236988
These should be adequate to get started - read, read & read first, then - backup before proceed at your own risk and speed with OP's instructions. Good luck !
Thank you so much for the answer, as for those websites being closed, yes i know whats happening, im not that newbie .
My viewpad is ITE, and i had it rooted and installed clockworkmod, so im not looking for any specific rom, i just want one that would increase the performance and mainly the speed of my vpad7, so what you recommend ?
Still cant really find any usefull link.
Thank you in advance.

I use EU V1.7b ITE ROM as my favorite ROM of choice, developer is back and one of the best around here for the Vpad7.
The CPU has practical limits and hardware cannot be overclocked at this point, performance is optimized AFAIK - YMMV.
Don't know what else to say about it ... Happy searching to you on "any usefull link"
Thank you for all, im finally getting some working links, sucessfully downloaded and still trying kwbr Viewpad 4.0.
Very strange, its installing without asking everything i had before even very old stuff that i had uninstalled long time ago, but i did erase all the cache before loading this ROM, is this normal ?
Never mind, fixed it , i just set everything to factory settings because i noticed the account was not syncing, now i have the ROM kwbr working with the account syncing, im installing whatever i want, everything working fine its even faster.

[Q] Assistance locating mods for custom rom development?

First thing first, Yes I am a noob. I am trying to learn how to build custom roms. I already created a working rom based off of the UCPLC5 leak. I pretty much just deleted apk files and zipaligned the rom. I am wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me figure out where to find fix'x and mods such as accurate battery mod or 5ghz wifi fix. Is there a website that I need to look into? I have tried searching google to no avail. I also tried the search here but I am unable to get any ideas.
Thanks in advance.
you're on pretty much the only resource you need.....learn how to search, thats all i can say, because there is no 'directory of mods/fixes'.....

Task did 90% of the work, you just tweaked that base.
Learn to grab the untouched firmware and extract, deodex it then start working from that.
If you are working on a i9100 base, it would be best to check there forum section.
Deodexing and a number of the basic porting fixes are covered in my guide in the Development section.
5 GHz wifi fix doesn't apply to AT&T bases unless AT&T ****ed up on an epic scale, it's only for ported European firmwares. That's covered in the guide too.

More than that....more like 99.5. I wouldn't even call it tweaking yet.
