I have a rooted droid x using wireless tether and also have barnacle installed, depends on the day which one works best. I can connect my laptop no problem. My htc evo won't find the wireless signal?? I tried using bluetooth also, still won't work. Does the evo prohibit peer to peer?

It's because wireless tether for root users and barnacle both setup ad-hoc networks. Android doesn't see ad-hoc networks like your pc does. Search on this and there are some files that have been edited on other device that could help get around this, although I never had any luck. There's been a mobile access point ported for the vibrant that I'm using now, that creates an infrastructure mode, maybe they have one for your device?
Has anyone tried any of the wi-fi tethering apps on the market with a rooted Photon? Did it work or will we have to wait for an unlocked bootloader and a custom ROM?
I find tethering to be occasionally useful, but not useful enough to pay an additional $30/month.
I usually tether to a tablet so Bluetooth/USB solutions won't work.
Thank you.
I would love to know that answer.

I have verified that Wifi tether works via the Wifi Tether App on the market once root is obtained.

Can you tell me if it runs in AP (Infrastructure Mode) or Ad hoc?
I had this problem originally on my evo (before wifi tether supported infra) that a lot of devices will only connect to an access point running in AP (infrastructure) mode.

It only worked on Adhoc mode. I could connect laptops and ipod/ipad but not Galaxy Tab10.1. I had to do Adhoc modification on the tab so it can connect. I hope wifi tether app gets updated to support AP mode on Photon soon.
wifi tether 3.0 beta 2
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecod...v3_1-beta2.
Should have an option in the settings to make it broadcast in infrastructure mode. It may call it softap, check it out.
Could not get wifi tether to work on my rooted photon no matter which mode I used.

The software has the options, but the drivers must support it. The Evo didn't get infrastructure mode support in the drivers until 2nd 2.2 update I think.
Either, its up to the wifi tether people to update it for photon like they did for the evo.
On a rooted Photon, is there a way to enable native Android tethering, which seems to be currently hijacked by the Sprint app? Because that would provide infrastructure mode.
i think the question is, where do we request support for the photon?
Anyone having any luck with a solution?
Same problem here ... installed wifi tether on my rooted photon. Can start tethering, clients can join the network, but there's no data communication. Upload/download counters don't change and the client never gets an IP address. Anyone have any luck? I downloaded the current 3-1 beta.
Mine works fine, just downloaded it from the market. Not sure why some of your guys' isnt working.
It works, just not for the devices we want it to[read: devices that use infrastructure], such as the xoom in my case, as well as other tablets. Works great for my girlfriend's macbook though...

I've rooted the MoPho and installed the beta version of WT. I've also tried Barnacle and even the native Hotspot function in the phone all to the same result.
I can see the SSID in inSSIDER and on the network list in Win7. I select it and enter the security key but get a message that Win cannot connect.
Ideas? Am I missing a step?
After some more tinkering I found that if I turned off encryption WT beta works. It's quite slow even with a 4g connection but it works. I also tried Barnacle and the native hotspot application and they both connected but had no internet access.
Ao it looks like WT beta is the answer. Now if anybody can help get encryption to work that would be most helpful.
I haven't had any problems off the market, only device I've tried on it is an ipad 2 though

I have WT beta and it will not let me connect my tab. Not home so I don't know if my laptop connects.

Hi I was wondering if anybody has been able to tether an evo 3d to an ipad 2 wifi. I have so far tried barnacle and wifi tether unsuccessfully as I am able to connect to the phone but there is no data being shared between the 2 devices, and hoping someone has any input as to how to fix this issue. Btw I have gotten tether to work with other devices its just the ipad I can't figure out.

Most of these devices don't have native Ad Hoc networking support, the providers do it because they want to evade not getting paid for the infrastructure mode when you use their own WiFi hotspot app
did you select router fix and eve 3d from the profile
There's not a app that Enables it?

Yea, using wifi tether you might be able to get it done with those options selected.
yes, you can do it. did it all the time when i had my iPad2...
you need wifi tether, the one that is included in many of the Evo3D ROMs.
in the settings switch device profile to evo 3d, check routing fix and MSS clamping.
disable passwords and use access control.
should work
Thanks to everybody for their input and help turns out I had everything right except in the access control I had to check off the ipad connection and that fix it. Appreciate all the help

Hi, anyone tried to connect to laptop's ad-hoc hotspot? I can't connect to it but my iPhone can.
Most android phones can't do ad hoc. There are software mods by the dev community for some, but nothing working on this phone yet. Already posted a topic about it. We'll have to wait.

I am wondering if there is a mod out there that will let me tether my phone to my computer through the USB. I know that the oG EvO Let me do that when i used most roms, is this still under development at the moment?
Can someone please help with WiFi tether. I have a EVO LTE rooted. I have the settings set as generic ics I have mms clapping and routing fix checked. I changed the ssid and the password. Do you have access control enabled for wifi tether?if so you need to go to access control and check the box to allow traffic through a certain device when its connected.

Firefox is a browser, not a tethering app. So I can see why "you had no luck."
(From foxfi.com): *Sprint has removed FoxFi from Play Store. Sprint users must install/upgrade FoxFi from http://foxfi.com/bin instead.
FoxFi works great on my LTEvo, and it works with or without root; for many, many users I might add.
