[Q] So Many Roms, Yet What Do I Use? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey All. I have flashed to a few roms last year on my fascinate and now am falling behind. I was looking at all the roms and to someone who was used to download the rom, flash with Odin, then done, I'm getting very confused on what I even can update to. This is what I am running, SCH-1500 (if you need more info let me know). Could someone recommend some solid rom to me? I like ones that look visually pleasing and running smooth. I have been running superclean(I believe for a while now). I have also looked at guides but am still lost on what roms I can even use anymore. Also with a recommendation, can you link me to a guide that will make sure I get the right stuff and don't mess up?? Thank you all!!

This link will get you back to stock, and then you are not limited as to what you use. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391
I'm using PWGB at the moment, and it's pretty good. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242747
My next rom might be tsm resurrection as the poster below me recommends: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274561
The update tonight looks great.

I would go with tsm resurrection or cm7.1

Using my weird and mind of its own phone, I found TSM Resurrection is very stable but lacks the customizations. CM has a lot of customizations, good performance, responsive, and smooth (when it does work). I am just one of those lucky people who tends to have the "major" issues of running CM

Having installed TSM Resurrection since my last post, I can whole heartedly endorse this rom. It is sweet!

Thanks for the replies. I was looking to flash to the TSM Resurrection. It states that I need to be on EH09 or EI20 first. How do I get to these versions? This thread that was given to me earlier http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391, doesn't have either one of those options for EH09 or EI20. Is it as simple as finding a rom that has one of those on it for firmware then using odin to flash then go to TSM?

Reboot
Profit!

If you want to be running GB, I personally recommend TSM Resurrection. I tried CM7.1, GeeWhiz 2.1, and PWGB. As with any ROM, YMMV, but CM killed my data and GeeWhiz and PWGB were kind of buggy and plagued with random reboots. I've only been running TSM for most of today, bit so far it's been the most stable of all. If staying with Froyo is your choice, I can't recommend GeeWhiz 1.1.1 enough. It just works. I never ran into a single issue with it. Just my two cents.

Try both and see which one you prefer.
I like Fusion since it has almost gotten rid off the touchwiz crap.
right now i am running this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773018
it is a great ROM, and it flies. i do not have any lag fix installed and i have absolutely no lag at all. and touchwiz is completely removed
I was loving Bionix 1.9 but I Odin-ed back to Stock JI6 because I think Froyo is coming out soon. It was released internationally last week and the Captivate already has it.
I am sure Fusion is very nice but I got sick of flashing new ROMS every other day. Just my 2 cents.

this is my first ROM and i am running Bionix 1.9.1 for a few days now. stable so far, works as advertised. i am running bionix191_JACS_OCUV_VOODOO and i have also installed SetCPU. if you decide to go with it please make sure you take a look at this before you do anything: https://sites.google.com/site/projec...allation-guide. if you follow the guide you should have no probs.
i have noticed battery life improvement after installing 1.9.1 and reconditioning battery, it has been unplugged since about 7:30am and after 3 calls one lasting 40mins while on blue tooth and constant work e-mails i am sitting at 63% at the time of writing this. so in 8 hours i have dropped 37% its a big improvement from before.
just my experience

It really comes down to preference. Is there a speed difference from 1.9.1 to Fusion 1.0? Most users think that Fusion is faster, but I came from 1.8 so I can't comment on it. Fusion is awesome. If you don't mind TWiz than go with 1.9.1, however, if you're like me and can't stand TWiz, go with Fusion 1.0. It is amazing.

You will likely be waiting for awhile. Froyo hasn't even been mentioned for the Vibrant yet. The Source code was released for 2.2 but that is a far cry from a working fully functional ROM. You do realize you don't have to keep flashing the most current ROM they release right?

Yeah I was going Flash crazy and I must admit it is addictive LOL. Anyway, every Bionic ROM was slightly different, for example one had JI2 modem for better battery and the next one had JI6 for better data. I had to see for myself which one was best for me. Eventually I decided to go back to stock with the latest official JI6 OTA update to receive the Froyo OTA .

Hey there, don't get your panties in a bunch.. That ROM actually didn't fully remove touchwiz like you claim. There are some things that are still touchwiz there like twframework-res
But if your choice is Fusion or Bionix.. go with fusion
I've tried both... Go with Fusion if you don't use the TW launcher. If you are unsure about LP, its very cool.
I am running 1. 9 and I love it so far but I do miss cm5 on my mytouch slide :-( I hope it does work out for cm6 on the vibrant.

^ Eugene makes a very solid ROM and is usually slightly ahead of the other DEV's here. (I.E.- He has released (I believe) 3 builds of Froyo so far) where most other DEV's are just getting started on Froyo. Most DEV's use Eugene's work as a base for their own ROM's. I started with Eugene's ROM and have since moved to Bionix out of sheer personal preference. I like the look and feel of the Bionix ROM's more than I like Eugene's.
That being said, when he gets the GPS fixed on his most recent Froyo ROM, I may just have to flash it up to see how I like it
I think he got gps working on his newest 2.2 rom. I could be wrong though. I'm going to give that a run tonight
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I haven't tried either yet - still in OCD research phase before trying anything new and scary like a custom ROM ...
That said, I'm leaning toward Bionix. I understand the difference between the two is effectively whether you prefer Touchwiz and LauncherPro. They're both otherwise on relatively equal footing.
I've tried LP with homeswitcher and honestly it's nifty but it's niftiness couldn't outweight my familiarity with Touchwiz. This vibrant is my first android phone so that probably speaks volumes as to why I had no previous conceptions of what the UI ought to behave like...
I'd suggest to the OP to also just try out LP with homeswitcher prior to flashing a ROM and you can easily see for yourself which format tickles your pickle more.

Any good TouchWiz froyo rom?

Any touchwiz froyo roms that work good and improve performance? I am one of the few that really likes the touchwiz theme on samsung but would like to upgrade to Froyo.
Nero v5 TW Edition
If you want TWiz, then why not go with the latest Samsung froyo leak - KA5? I am using it and its snappy, fast, and bug-free as far as I can tell.

Agreed. Stock KA5 froyo is much better than the stock eclair. Even without a lag fix, it's snappy and responsive. If you don't need the full custom rom experience and like touchwiz, it's a good one.
This is probably close to the official OTA - if samsung ever gets around to releasing it.

I'm also running the stock KA5 but I added the voodoo kernel on top of it.
It's been great so far. I had one issue where the phone wouldn't lock but a reboot fixed that and it's only happened once in 5 days.
All the lockups and crashes my phone was having before are all gone. Plus battery life seems to be better.
I came from stock JI6 with OCLF.
Also, it was pretty easy to do with ODIN and I kept all my apps and data.

Hey Guys. I have been out of the loop for a while with all these new ROMS that keep on coming out. Does anyone have any good recommendations on any ROMS?

At the moment all gingerbread roms have a buggy gps.
Saying that, my favorite is CM7 as it completely leaves samsung based TouchWiz instead opting for the much quicker AOSP base.
Simply Honey 3.9.1 is killer man. Its Gingerbread 2.3.4 and you can overclock it to 1.2ghz. The GPS works pretty damn good too. To me there is no better Rom out there.

I'm sorry, but when I flashed Simply Honey (CWM& Odin version) it always came out laggy. I'm not really sure what the big hype of that ROM is about, yes I was a fan of the Simply Honey back in the day when it was 2.2.1, but its either I'm having a bad flash or the ROM doesn't want to run on my phone.
My vote goes to bi-winning V3. Its a 2.2.1 rom and its absolutely blazing on my phone, and zero issues.

Malice 4. Works very nicely for me. CM7 had a tendency to trash my external SD card. Maybe it was me, though...
Take a look at the one in my signature. The Toxic Muzic one. Stable, with tons of theming support. Great battery life too with Bali-X.

This was my experience with it as well, which is why I'm always surprised that it's so highly regarded. I even flashed it a second time after trying other roms just to see if I was mistaken but yeah, a laggly, clucky rom for me. CM7, MIUI, Asgard, etc, were all much more responsive in my experience.

Best rom so far?

Well, I know everybody has a different opinion about "best". But my DX2 is getting slower everyday. It is running the stock 2.3.4 rom currently. I have had to pull the battery out multiple times in the past month just to get out of the frozen mode. That's no fun!
So, here I am looking for a new rom, wifi is vital to me since I use it all the time, well, pageplus does not give much choice. Camera/camcorder are also extremely important (so miui is out?). Other than that, the rom should be as stable as possible, as snappy as possible. With the stock rom, open each app is a painful waiting of 2-3 seconds.
Alright, folks, please recommend! TIA

Enjoy.

i've seen a few people say this. it must be an app issue. i only got the DX2 a few weeks ago, used stock for less than 35 minutes, then i flashed RC0 and RC1 CM7. I've had 1 FC related to Google Play Music, but other than that it has been smooth and fast. The lag when I sbf'd was pronounced, but i've had zero issues with CM7. are people restoring app data through TB or something? it just doesn't make sense that people could install the same rom the same way, then some say "fast; awesome" and others say "unstable; buggy."

I'm running...
CM7 7.2 RC1 (daytona)
ICS 1.7 theme (decompiled to add transparent dialer and battery % mod)
ICS Phase Beam Live Wallpaper
I'm more than happy with this setup. It's going to be on my phone for a while.
Cm7 rc1 problems, me too.
Ti-bu has caused me problems also.
I have come to use this way to restore data:
method 1 works best:

Weird how some people have problems with CM7 and some have none. I've been running it over 4 weeks with zero issues. No FCs or anything. I used Pete's method of rooting and of course you have to load a special modified CM7 X2 Bootstrap after installing CM7. I'm just curious as to what could be the cause of some people having issues.
Turn camcorder on, then turn flash on. Record, then turn of the cam. Fced twice forth me

Most stable vibrant rom?

I've tried numerous roms from froyo to jelly bean, but can't seem to find anything completely stable. Can anyone help me with this?

I had great results with Bionix V (froyo). I don't use GPS, so I cannot comment on that personally. Other people reportedly had no problems.
It uses the Bali kernel, and it had ridiculous battery life.
I tested a different phone for like 19 days, and left it on in a drawer on airplane mode and it wasn't dead yet when I went back and got it out.
However, I use Helly Bean 8/12 build right now and have had no issues whatsoever. Like I said though, I don't use GPS. I know there are issues with that.
The Cyanogenmod 7.2 would probably be the most stable I imagine. I'm always amazed at the speed and battery life when I tell myself I'm not doing any beta roms for a while.
iczen all the way it was only rom to have excellent gps as well as battery backup........ics passion is also nice but it is old ........for 2.2 bionix is awsome ........none of the gingerbread roms are good for daily use ...

I'm using Bionix now and it's extremely laggy. The battery life is good, but that's about it. I even redownloaded and reflashed it a couple of times to make sure. I'm not really a fan of Jelly Bean for this device, I may try out Helly Bean though. Thanks!:good:

Thanks but CM7.2 was horrible for me. I'm actually thinking about just going back to stock. I'll try a few more customs and if nothing works... Thanks again though.

In recovery is voodoo lagfix turned on? This ROM absolutely flew for me... it was starting to bog down right before I switched to HB, but I ran it for several lag-free months prior to switching.
For me, Bionix (fishmanmod) is the most stable of all. Battery life is excellent. WiFi calling works and GPS locks in <20 seconds. I've never experienced lag. (Make sure voodoo lagfix is on).
I'm running a nightly from CM9 and it works like a dream. I think mine is the 20120423 nightly. It doesn't have GPS, but I have a GPS in my car already, and that's the only place I would need a GPS anyways.
