Might be an easily answered question, but how do i rename one of my CWM nandroid backups? I've tried just using root explorer and changing the name, but when i try to restore it i get a "md5 sums don't match" error and can't flash the backup. Any tips for me?
Thanks

Uh... don't change the name, it throws off the md5 checksum and it won't flash.
The md5 is an "error checking" mechanism of sorts, and if it doesn't match then it won't flash to avoid flashing a bad backup. If you need to, just copy/move the nandroid file to a folder with a more descriptive name to help you keep organized.
I rename mine all the time. Just make sure there are no spaces. Periods are ok though. And yes I've used the successfully to restore from.

Thanks, i will try renaming one like you said. And if it is to no avail i will just throw them in a named folder.

You cannot rename any MD5 file..
But if you download CWM Manager you will be able to backup and restore
your rom with any filename you like. This app can do most everything which
Rom Manager can do except cannot download roms or recoveries.
CWM Manager can:
It can install apk files on your sdcard
It can flash kernels
It can delete files
It can backup and restore roms
It can flash any cwm rom
When using this app for backing up it asks for filename to start with, so
naturally it opens the keyboard so you can type in a name for your backup rom.
Its a free app on the market.
Here is a link for it: http://www.wuala.com/jgmoreno75/Samsung%20Galaxy%20S%20i9000/APPS/CWM%20Manager%20v1.5.apk?lang=en
It's fully self-exlanitory and easy to use.

I use Astro File manager to rename them. Like mentioned above, dont put in any blank spaces into the name or it cant be used, until you go back and fix the name with no spaces.

+1 I do it all the time so I can differentiate between my nandroids of stock rom, stock rom debloated, CM7 nightlies (or whenever we get an update from Atinm) and I can easily switch between any of them after wilding data/factory reset without having any md5 sum issues.

Are you guys talking about the ROM Manager by Clockworkmod? Or something different...because if you are then the version I am running from the market is 4.7.0.5? Allot higher then what you both mentioned. Can you clarify.

So, what does this do?
Dump current kernel (and recovery on devices having a seperate one)
Flash kernel from /sdcard/zImage
Flash recovery from /sdcard/recovery.bin
Backup EFS
(as raw .IMG dump and as .TAR archive)
Check/Verify EFS backup (i.e. compare to "live" EFS)
Restore EFS from either .IMG or .TAR
Open stock update .TARs and flash from from it:
- Modem Firmware
- PARAM.LFS
- Kernel
Reboot device
- normally
- to recovery
- to download mode
*) When you check the EFS backup right after you made it, it should show a 100% match to the current phone's EFS.
However, after a reboot, the EFS *does* start to differ a bit - that seems to be normal, during my tests the EFS differed for 80bytes more after each reboot, my original EFS dump even differed by ~150k already
kTool companion tool market link [ Show ]
Hope you like it.
If anyone has more suggestions on what would need to be checked/verified during the check operation, do tell
After doing backup I did efs backup check....
And in that it says nv_data.bin not found..
Whts the reason?

For the .img and the .tar or only for one of them?
What does it say for "mount returned:"?
"nv_data.bin not found" means a bad/corrupted backup.
// EDIT
Just saw the screenshot.
Something went wrong making the raw .img dump (weird....).
But the .tar backup is OK (100% match to the phone's one).
Hmm.... gotta investigate the .img issue some more.
Check this;
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
OK, that helps a lot already.
The efs.img dump might be all fine and OK, it's actually a problem getting it mounted to "look into it".
Dug around some more and also found this:
Code:
2: system error (out of memory, cannot fork, no more loop devices)
"2" was the returncode you got during the check, fits with the verbose error message you get when trying the mount from a shell.
Cool, at least I know where to look, not exately sure why this happens, but we'll find out.
Maybe a busybox thing, maybe I'll bundle one with the app....
thanks for updating~~~

Well, in a way.
IIRC the shell command "cp" (to copy files) is not available on stock Samsung kernels, and the app just calls "cp" instead of (like for most of the other shell commands used by the app) using "busybox cp" to call/use the busybox applet of the command.
As said, I'll try, check and hopefully fix this later tonight and if all goes well will have an update ready by tomorrow
Published v1.23 with the above issue fixed
The update should show up on the market soon.

No need for reflash..install ADB and push stock FM radio. PM me for details or you want apk. Will attach apk here after i get back home from work.
CWM flashable FM Radio.zip
Here is a .zip file to flash from int/ext sdcard in CWM recovery mage from CheckROM script.
Boot into CWM recovery
Wipe cache and advanced/dalvik
Navigate to .zip & install
Reboot
Enjoy
Edit: Or just extract the .apk and either poush it with ADB or "Android Commander" PC program, or install with a root file explorer such as ES File Explorer/Root Explorer. It'll be faster just to flash the zip. Edit 2 (forgot to add): Install to system/app
Another method that I always use.
Download File Manager (Rhythm Software) from market.
Find the smallest ROM with FM in it.
Extract it from the ROM.
Copy the FM.apk from your phone into /system/apps
That will do. =)
The above requires Root Access of course.

Is it not flashing CWM, or is it not there AFTER you reboot the photon? If it's not sticking (stock bootstrap appears after reboot) go to /system/etc and rename install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.bak and it will stick. By default when the photon boots it checks the recovery and if it isn't right it will reinstall it. Renaming the .sh file prevents that (it will NOT stop you from booting properly).
I'm a MoPho-er
I think you right can you explain moree pleasee more detail in how to do it please
Use an app like root explorer (file manager) and navigate to the folder /system/etc. At the top of the window there will be a button to "mount R/W", this will make the directory read/write (R/O means read only). Find the install-recovery.sh file and long press on it. A menu will pop up. Choose rename and rename it to install-recovery.sh.bak (just add the .bak to the end of the file name) and save it. That way you will still have it if you need to go back to stock recovery for whatever reason. After you save click on the "mount R/O" button at the top of the window. This will change the directory back to "Read Only". After that you can flash CWM and when you reboot it will still be there.
I'm a MoPho-er
BTW, you can do the rename from the phone. It's just like renaming a file on a pc.

Stock = NON-Custom ROM, or the one that is shipped with your phone (in this case, Gingerbread)
Build = Check Settings>About Phone
Not sure why you don't have that install_su.sh file or whatever, but I would use RSD lite to go back to STOCK Build 198_6, unlock again, and then flash CWM 5.0.2.7. It's fast, easy, and you're starting from scratch so you aren't missing any files.
it say build number 4.5.1 A-1 198_7
I would agree with KTT16, SBF back to 198_6, root, unlock, then flash the 5.0.2.7-photon3 recovery. Follow what I listed a couple posts earlier and rename the install-recovery.sh before you flash and everything should be cool. Look in the "Mopho Compendium" thread and you'll find everything you need. There'll be links to videos by qbking77 showing how to do everything.

Lol. You're right. I didn't notice that almost all of the functions of a recovery are not working. In fact, being unable to restore a back up makes this a zip installer since it can't recover anything.
This is either poorly worded or deliberately misleading.

If you can't restore a backup, how can you flash a zip? It's cool that you're working on it, I'm just curious what the real world use is. Most people use custom recoveries to...flash zips and make and restore backups.

Found it does not work for LS990. It installs something but reboot recovery causes black screen. If anyone has that i fixed it by booting to stock recovery (vol down & power, release, vol down) and factory resetting (which did not erase data)
Will this work on lollipop as well as on kit Kat?

Hi all
I've accidentally deleted my stock messages app through Titanium backup (just wrong key press) and I'm trying to locate which is the correct apk so as to put it back in system path (priv-app I guess??) but I can't find it...
I have almost everything in backup files so I just need the name of the apk and system path location...
Can someone help?
Thanks a lot
Anyone?

Sorry ... only now saw your message.
From a friends upload it should be
/system/priv-app/SecMms_Delight_Note_Open/SecMms_Delight_Note_Open.apk
I will check when at home with an already downloaded S6 ROM.
I'm sure it's inside priv-app and it must start with "SecMMS*"
I own a S5 so ATM is all I got.
Nice regards.

I was sure it was that from what I ve found over xda and web but the strange thing is that I have this folder in my system/priv-app/Sec-mms-delight-open (no sec-mms-delight-note-open) but it doesn't show up in my apps...I even deleted it and restore it back by setting correct permissions of course and reboots between but nothing succeded...I don't know what else to try...every proposal accepted

If you were initially messing up with Titanium, it may be Freezed there and, therefore, no showing.
Please check.
Nice regards.

I ve deleted it accidentally through titanium but apk is still there in the system/priv-app...what more can try?
Can you please delete this file from your system and then put it back to see if this is the correct one.and your stock sms app will reappear?

What I've suggested ... go back to Titanium and check if the Message App is or is not Freezed.
As long as deleting you may have freezed it and this will prevent it from showing up.

I do not need to experiment. I know it will show up correctly.

What do you mean by that ??? Every File Manager copy files and set permissions. I use Total Commander but there are several out there.

Yes that is exactly what my titanium says but it doesn't appear in the app drawer...I just mean that it s the only app that I set permissions after copy, reboot and it doesn't appear...I just wanted to make sure this is the correct app...now with your photo and help I.m sure...I ll try some more stuff...titanium for now is stuck on restoring when I try restore for this app...of course result stays the same when I do it manually...I ll try a flash file tomorrow...

I suggest 2 options:
1) Copy using file manager
1.a) Install Total Commander
1.b) With TC, extract from your ROM zip the SecMMSxxx.apk file to sdcard
1.c) With TC, check if there is one /system/priv-app/SecMMSxxx/SecMMSxxx.apk there ... if so, delete it.
1.d) With TC, copy SecMMSxxx.apk you extracted to /system/priv-app/SecMMSxxx/SecMMSxxx.apk
1.e) With TC, call Properties of the APK and set permissions accordingly
1.f) Reboot
2) Flash using Recovery.
2.a) Extract SecMMSxxx.apk from your ROM
2.b) Upload it somewhere
2.c) Gimme the link and I will cook a flashable ZIP that will overwrite and set permissions
2.d) Be xtremely happy
Nice regards.
