above is what I have done to my phone so far.
need for a different camera after experiencing todays issues. dont know if any of you FABULOUS developers have considered the following camera issue but this is what I realized today & am now searching for solution camera.
when recording footage with phone camera and you need to [pause] for a period, the camera display stays on and helps run battery down. Need to have display go to black after 20 seconds after pausing and returning to displaying image after you press the power button to aid in saving battery power (stupid lock button in this case).
OR be able to hit the power button yourself after pausing recording mode to make display go off until you press power button again to turn on display again.
I tried to film kids at the county fair and needed the pause feature alot and to also conserve battery. pressing the power button just [locks] it....
so I tried pressing home screen after pausing and then pressing the power button to turn off display but then the recording session I had paused would be gone.
Then I tried pausing the recording session and just turning and holding camera lens to my chest thus blocking any light, therefore the screen would be black (dont know if this would effect battery consumption). The problem with that was that before I could press the pause button off to continue to record again the stupid camera would "time out" and then what I had recorded up to then in that segment would be gone yet again..
so... to recap my camera needs. I would like to flash an update that would take away the camera time-out period when pausing, and disable the "LOCK" feature and make that button the display on/off button while NOT turning off the app. and maybe even, if the camera is in [pause mode] and you press the back button a window will pop up asking if intention is to turn off display to save battery while in pause mode or to close camera app.
it may be a placebo effect but I swear the display shows photos and footage
MUCH more brilliant and clear with the PWGB2.0 beta3 ROM...
I love this PWGB ROM....
try it if you havent yet. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS.
HOPE SOMEONE COMES THRU.

[EDIT]....NO LONGER USING kernel: imoseyon_leanKernel_i500_voodoo_1.4.0
AND
TWlauncher.apk: TouchWizGTG_New_Dock_Colored_Icons_All_Variations.zip
Removed kernel because I saw no difference in speed and battery efficiency.
Removed TouchWizGTG New_Dock...zip because of too many freeze up and force closes.

Tried to turn on my XDA yesteday and the button fell into the device ! This caused not to be able to turn on the screen unless I got a call. I downloaded Vito SystemTools' button maping program which allowed me to make my calendar button (when held down) to turn the screen on and off. The problem is that turning the screen on and off is not doing the same thing as the power button did. I was under the impression that all the power button did was turn the screen on and off to save battery and prevent unintended input. However, now my battery dies in 6-8 hours of use compared to the normal 2 days. Obviously, there is somthing more that the power button does.
What I'd like to know from the developers is if there is a program called by the power button and how I should access it. The button mapper program allows me to map any program I want to (almost) any hardware button (not the volume button). If it's a DLL or somthin I can probably write a wrapper program for it with some pointers.
I'm also in the market for a dummy xda or just another power button if someone has one just to get it to look better. However I like the functionality of holding down the calendar button for 1 second to turn the device on/off and would like to keep that permanently.

The power button is probably hard-wired to some processor wake-up logic. So when you turn the processor off, it's going to be very hard to make it wake up by anything else. You could write something that makes it wake up very very momentarily, say every few seconds, to check for a button-press. But my guess is what you want is a new power button.
damn Well i'm waiting on a dummy phone auction unless anyone over here has one to sell me.
I got exactly the same problem, the only difference is that i managed to get it back and i putted some silicone glue in it. It works and don't ask me how ;-)
Anyway, why don't you just press on the call - hang-up , calendar, volume button to wake the phone up?
Than just change the settings in battery power to make it shut down after 5min or 10min. It should help you reduce your battery life time since the phone gets automaticly in sleep mode after that time.
good luck,
Yann
I have my phone set not to wake up without the power button being pressed. I can turn this off but then buttons get pressed in my pocket since I don't like belt clip holders.
Is it possible to listen to music on the XDA with the screen off? ie just like when your talking on the phone and the screen is off but the speaker is still active.
If I turn the phone off with the power button the music stops, also the auto power off after time X doesn't kick in when Win Media Player is running.
Having the screen on all the time (even with the back light off) really drains the battery.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
If you're using Windows Media Player, goto Tools, Settings, and then Buttons. You'll be able to map Screen Toggle to a key which will turn the screen on/off with the press of a button.

Hi!
Yes, you can do it too with other players like GSPlayer and Mort Player.
These players come with preset timer to off your screen to save battery power and at the same time allows you to listen to music.
resco audio thingy will do the same job, as will betaplayer.
be sure to enable the feature through options.
Also im sure there are many more programs that will do this for you.
(even just a backlight plug-in?)
w0rd.
Pocket Music Player 3 has this feature also. It's one of the better players I've found thus far.
screensaver
phm power toys has a app that will turn off the display

Heres another little freeware app that I have been using for a while - gives an option on the Today screen to turn off display, and pressing one of the units buttons turns it back on.
Also gives on screen bar graph of the battery capacity (the main function of the program i think) plus main memory and expansion memory capacity/usage, plus a soft reset, ability to turn off auto power off and a few other things i cantremember.....
There has been a lot of notes from people who have installed and cant uninstall (although why you would want to is beyond me..) but if you go into settings/today/items/ select power check then options, there is all the configuration settings plus instructions on how to uninstall.
Cheers, Dave.
EDIT.... Might help if i pasted in the link huh... http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/powercheck.shtml
EDIT2... Worth mentioning that the default button to fire back up the screen is Button 1, which on the XDA2 is the top right button (calendar). Don't do what I did and try each of the buttons - couldnt work out what button 5 was so I selected it as the option to turn back on the unit - guess what - there is no button 5 on the XDA2.... soft reset wouldn't bring it back up, had to hard reset in the end... Please learn from my mistakes!!!
I planned to buy HTC Flyer. I watched the youtube demo several times and I noticed that the touch button light is always not on.
(1) Can someone help to confirm this is not a SW bug but rather due to setting issue (ie to turn on during night and off during day)?
(2) If there any setting to turn on the button light on when the screen is touched and auto switch off after few seconds?
the touch button light up just for few seconds
Hi,
I'm fairly new here but I have done a reasonable amount of searching (imo) and have yet to find a result to effectively change songs while listening to music without having to take phone out of pocket (bluetooth devices, and shake2playnext excluded).
I found an app called 'Next Song' which interprets double-presses on the volume - this would be nice, only I haven't been able to make it work successfully (next song popup notification appears but track does not change)
At one point, I used button remapper to remap my camera button to media_next. (was using camera360 at this point with camera button). After the GB update and recent threads, I have wanted to use the SE camera more. Unfortunately, the camera button does not work in SE's camera button without the focus button (must press focus before camera button, then picture will be taken).
If anyone's got a solution let me know please
(remap longpress/volume, double press volume rockers? or take picture without focus button on SE camera?)
I'm new to the V10 -- my old beloved Note 4 was quickly unravelling so I traded it in for this phone. Other than the loss of the stylus, I quite like it. The second screen is neat. The fingerprint scanner works much better than the Note 4's ever did. All in all I'm fine with it.
(Haven't rooted it yet. Eventually.)
I have run into an issue that's a little confounding, though. Occasionally -- about once a week since the last OTA update -- the screen will "sort of" freeze. By "sort of" I mean the phone is obviously still running (I can turn the display on and off) but I'm unable to navigate by touch. The UI elements don't respond, I can't swipe away windows, I can't access notifications...
...my Note 4 used to do this occasionally, and what I'd have to do is long-press the power button for 8-10 seconds, which would force it to turn off, then turn it back on, and life would go on. The V10 doesn't do that -- when I long-press the power button for 8-10 seconds, I get that stupid V10 voice control program (I call it stupid because it hilariously misinterprets my voice commands - my daughter and I basically turn it on whenever we want to be amused by a big dumb phone). In short, there seems to be no way to force the phone to shut down through hardware other than pulling the battery... which is what I wind up doing, but it's weird that there's no way to force a shutdown with the power button.
Is there a way to change this in the settings anywhere? Or would I need to root the phone and load a custom rom for that?
Thanks for any help you can provide...
Try long pressing the power button and the volume down at the same time...that works for me
I can remove and put the battery back in faster than i can long press to reboot.
Also a factory reset after an ota is recommended. It might fix the freezing problem.
