Anybody know if the ICS update will be officially released for Galaxy S2 in the near future (days)? or will it be following the first device released with it pre-loaded. (dare I say, like how apple did 4GS and IOS5)
I was expecting the update to be pushed following the recent meeting in Hong Kong, but no signs of it.
The Galaxy Nexus will be the first phone to officially have ICS, so i wouldn't put much hope into having it on the S2 before the Galaxy Nexus is even released...
The S2 probably won't see it for months and it'll be Carrier dependant, if and when it happens. Google only update devices themselves that are in the Nexus range.
Best case scenario, the Nexus S gets the official update first, a month after the Galaxy Prime is released. Non Nexus phones could be months after that and not all existing phones will be updated, although the S2 almost definitely will be.
Along with the Nexus S, Gingerbread Devices will get it...

Interesting is this line:
"Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device."

Cant wait to use it on my 80$ (no contract) Huawei U8650
I am pretty confident it will run on ALL 2.3 devices, and why should it not ? Its only a PHONE OS it will not need many ressources.
thank u
cheers for the replies. Im an EX iphone 3gs user, upgraded to galaxys S2 and not looking back at all

After 10 years of loving my windows phones I have had nothing but horrible experiences with the Dell Venue Pro (and dealing with DELL) and MS canceling out phone support for Zune systems of any kind, i'm switching to Android.
What I'd like to know, now that the new 4.0 OS (Ice cream / SDK) has been released what is the most powerful phone on the market or coming out in the next month or so?
What i'm looking for is the best of everything in one device. This means power and capabilities, but also means the ability to crack into my phone without issue (software mods as well as hardware mods). I would also be nice if the phone could use the 1700/2100 frequencies.
Alright so I don't know a lot about the bands that has never really been an issue for me because i have at&t but, here is the device that I would be looking at. The HTC Holiday does include those bands as far as I can tell. This device will (should) have a 1.5ghz processor 1 gb of ram, LTE, and best of all the htc sense UI. There are plenty of options but if you want the best you should be looking for 1.2ghz+ 1gb RAM, one of the top of the line screen options (every company has their own fancy name) I also believe the galaxy nexus will have these radio bands as well.
Anyone else have more good thoughts?
The Galaxy nexus releases Nov. 10 on Verizon and all carriers will get it sometime after that. That will be the only phone running 4.0 (ICS) for awhile. The Galaxy SII is running gingerbread, but is a great phone as well and will be eventually updated to ICS. The SII is available on all carriers right now. So to sum it up, if you want to wait...get the nexus. If the wait is too long (no eta on other carriers yet) get the galaxy SII.
I agree with the above, galaxy SII is a good choice for sure.
well i need a new phone now and my phone contract ends tmr.. so im wondering.. should i get the galaxy nexus or wait 2 to 3 months for the htc one? most phones come here only a month or so after UK/US release so it would probrably reach here around may or june.
edit: i also do not feel like rooting my phone for at least a year as i have warrenty and the last time i rooted my phone, i couldnt un-root it. and i do not really care much about terga 3 since there were very few terga 2 "exclusive" games..
id wait a few months mate galaxy s3 will be out by then which will be a bit more of a hands on experience than the nexus.
but its upto you dont forget mwc was only a couple weeks ago so in 2-3 months the shops will be flooded with more choice again
Tapped from a modded GS2
For the record, it's pretty easy to unroot a Nexus phone.
I am hardly thinking about Galaxu Nexus 'cause it has fresh system updates without any other manufacturer's bloatware and problems and I really like clean ICS design.
I think that the Galaxy Nexus is the best of two, cause its cheaper and you'll have official updates by google

Nexus being cheap does not mean its the best out there. Quite clearly the Htc One X will beat all the phones in terms of performance.

What is your current phone right now? Is it an android that runs 2.3? If so, I would say wait a couple months for the new phone. Galaxy Nexus is already old in terms of technology BUT developers are now just creating programs for it. If you wait a few months for the new phone, it would have the new tech and still be able to run ICS 4.0 and you are ahead of the galaxy nexus owners
I have now Htc desire running gingerbread using custom rom and I want to buy a new phone , and I'm thinking of buying samsung galaxy s2 based on its reputation, will this idea be good or not as they both are running the same os and price of samsung galaxy s2 is kind of expensive.Does it worth. Thanks in advance.
galaxy s2 is much better compare to desire and s2 is now running with official ics. so if you got the right deal just go for it, else if you are not in a hurry to purchase and need something better wait for s3
you should wait for the launch of galaxy s 3 and buy the s2 then. the price will go down.
desire is an old phone, upgrade now to SII. SIII will be out in 8 - 10 months, and couple more for prices to get stable. thats a long time plus it will be as expensive or more when launched.
Get the GSII because it's a brilliant phone. It's still ahead of the competition, you can get a variety of great & stable roms and themes - and it's affordable now. Then change it 2 years from now with a cheap SGIII . . .
i'm going to buy a mid range phone and i'm thinking of the galaxy s2 i know already it will get offical jelly bean but will it have Development in the future >> maybe 2 years from now ?? will it be able to run hd games until 2014 !!!??? or i should buy another phone ?? and my maximum budget is the s2 price so if you got a better phone in the same budget so please advise me ((sorry for my bad eng ))

Nothing can be said as far as 2014 is concerned. ATRIX HD can also be considered as an option. It's a decent phone.

I would recommend getting a Nexus 4 if it is available for 350 in your country. If not, the Galaxy Nexus is allot more future proof than our S2. Jellybean will most likely be the last update for our S2, whereas the Galaxy Nexus will for sure get Key lime pie (or whatever version is next). The Galaxy Nexus is quite on par with the S2, but instead you get the fast updates, and the development team is going to go strong for at least two more years. Hope I helped!
So, this thread is important for us who probably won't be able to afford GS3 or 4, and we are staying with our S2 for some more time.
GSMArena wrote an article about Sammy's plans of updating its phones. They say that GSII (along with some other devices) will end its updating cycle after the 4.2.2 update. Also, GS3, GS4, Note2 and Note tablets will get 5.0.
This list is not official, though it's rumored that it comes from an insider.
What do you think, will we see another update on our phones?

how about posting on right section: Galaxy S II General ...huh ???
and there are already threads like this...
What to do is wait 5/6 years and youll be able to pick up an s3 for under £50.So you can start saving now and you should be able to buy one then.
