Hi,
I made a nandroid back up before flashing entropy's kernel, and I have not made a backup after flashing the kernel. Is it possible to perform a nandroid restore even with a different kernel?
Thanks in advance for the help

Yes, but then you will not have entropy's kernel anymore.

I actually often use this method to easily go back to a kernel if I'm not satisfied with the new one.
I did it and it works perfectly!!
Thanks!!!

nandroids have never backed-up kernels i dont think
i was guna say kernel flasher
you on cm7 or miui or a normal GB rom ??
theres only like 3 kernels for normal GB roms so could just download one and keep it on your sd, could maybe do the same for cm7 or miui but i know nothing about them though so dont know

Nandroid have never backed up kernel on our Samsung phones when using a Samsung rom. But had we had the partition layout like we have in CM7 based ron's, it backs up the kernel just fine. But you can't just go and restore a nandroid of CM7 any old time, you must be running CM7 based rom first.

Hi. I've been wanting to root my phone. Is there a way to back up my apps before I wipe it and install the rooted rom so that I can restore them once I've rooted my phone? If not. What other options might I have? Thanks. Adam

Yes give titanium backup a try it backups all user apps with the data really useful when changing roms you get it at the Android market

You don't need to restore your apps after rooting your phone because rooting doesn't wipe anything.
You need a rooted phone and a clockworkmod or cfroot recovery to install any custom ROMs. For restoring apps, you can use Titanium backup. It's free and the paid version is even better.
Also, dont forget to take a nandroid backup before flashing a new ROM!
Okay thanks. But if I flash a rom does that not wipe the phone?

Yes flashing a new ROM needs wipe. It wipes your user apps/contacts/settings/messages, etc etc.
There are easy ways to get all of them back after rom installation.
A simple export, import could be used to restore ur contacts/messages, etc.
Titanium can restore your apps (with app data)
Your pics, videos, and other files will not be deletd on a ROM flashing !!

Yes if its a wipe rom no if its non wipe .Depends upon what sort of rom stock rom custom rom root kernel is not a rom /full firmware .
A Yes always backup you can not recover non backed up items .
Apps backup is Titanium Pro .
.and should not wipe anything .
CF Root and CWM should not wipe anything .

List is incomplete. Read ROM threads, and from user comments, you will know which ROM is best for you.
Thank you for your help I appreciate it.

you can try the nandroid backups from this

or this

Taking advantage of this thread I would like to request a nandroid of latest official build, untouched, I guess it's 6.12.173 . A system nandroid (yaffs2) or system dump would be nice. Thanks!.

kernel change?
Would installing the 2.3.6 backup also change the kernel to 2.3.6? I am wondering because I would like the 2.3.6 kernel so I can have bluetooth on ICS. I have tried flashing a 2.3.6 ROM, but haven't had success.
No i wish :/.

There are UCKH7 and UCKK6 stock kernels floating around. No need to back them up, they're out there already.
hi, i have a noob question, i dont know so much about repartitioning and other things, my question is, when upgrading a rom it does at normal procces (wipe data and install zip) . im taljking about for example ,i'm now in shostock 3 , it is android 4.1 and if i would back to cm9 , could i do that?. i have a nandroid backup of cm9, can i just restore this backup and i wont have problems without matter the rom i'm coming?, sorry for my english and thanks for the understanding.:good:
I'm not familiar with CM9, but the only issue would be if the ClockworkMod Recovery in the SHOstock3 kernel is compatible with the backup made with thebackup made with CM9. I'm thinking it might not be because the Jebo kernel in SHOstock3 backs up a pre-load partition.
Do You think then that is better flash again cm9 instead of the backup?
