As I observed android cannot detect adhoc networks,
I found this software Connectify as an alternative to it.
S thought of sharing with you all.
http://connectify.me/
It has has the feature of wifi hotspot that can be enabled on any pc or laptop having wifi and win 7 OS.
Wifi connection from this software is detectable by android devices and we can connect as any other normal wifi connection.
worth try..
Its been out for at least 1 year now. It works well for people who don't have wifi routers (like me) and I've been using for 6 months now for both my laptop and the O1 without problems.

I've just got a S2 but i'm new to Android.
One of my major disapointements is the lack o AdHoc WIFI support, is there any way to get my phone to connect to my PC AdHoc network in order to share the pc internet connection ?
I've used to do this with windows mobile since version 6.
Still no news ??
Lack of Wifi AdHoc support is for me a major flaw on android.
I two would like to know this.
At work I have my laptop setup with an Ad-hoc wifi connection that my iPhone 4 used to connect to fine.
My GSii wont see it though.
Annoying as I have limited data to use each month and spend all day at work without access to decent wifi.
i hava the same problem please give us any thing to fix it
I'm running windows xp and I want to use my laptop as a wifi hotspot so I can connect my SGS3 to it. I have tried many times and failed on countless tutorials/videos.
I am using a 3G Dongle as my main source of internet on the laptop and my network connections are now a mess
Anyone any help on this or how to set it up PROPERLY? Or is my laptop not capable of it. It is a Dell Inspirion 1300 with built in wifi card.
hi fellows
i just installed a 4g device in my laptop for internet access. It working fine. Next i made the laptop a hotspot via adhoc connection and after that though internet is fine but i am unable to connect my samsung sii via wifi with it. Even though a friends iphone connected to my lappys hotspot but my phone doesn't and neither does it show that a hotspot/ wifi connections exists.
help
Ad Hoc was designed only for local connections, not Internet.
Use Connectify to make hotspot.

You need to setup a virtual router or if your laptop has a router you can share net via that, originally custom roms does not support ad hoc, but certain roms are modified to enable it.
Using GT - I9100
I thank those who give helpful comments
I expect the same from others.
Router has wlan infrastructure mode, not adhoc. It doesn't matter if the ROM supports it or not.
Has anyone been able to connect to a vpn, start wifi tethering, then access the internet with other connected devices?
I connect to a vpn fine on my galaxy s3 mini, start a wifi tether, connect my laptop to the wifi network, but the laptop never connects to the Internet.
A whole lot of people have this problem, and have not been able to find a work around.
I've tried the terminal thingy where you do iptables rputing and stuff, doesn't work, or maybe it was too complicated for me to carry out properly.
Anyone with a solution?
I have a perfectly rooted galaxy s3 mini amd im sure many other devices have this vpn wifi problem.
Hello friends,
I've been researching how to fix my problem for a few days and I'm in dire need of some direction. I am getting quite frustrated. So I have my phone tethered to an older laptop via usb pdanet+ and everything is working fine. But what I want to do is broadcast that connection through a wireless router and connect my other devices that way. I know of wifi tethering on android and connectify for laptop but I do not want to go that route. What is it I need to do? I've tried using windows internet sharing through ethernet and disabling dhcp. Running out of ideas...
A couple of options...
1. Hosted Network Starter
Free: Simple hostpot with non configurable DHCP
www.nirsoft.net/utils/wifi_hotspot_starter.html
2. Connectify
Paid: Full featured hotspot with static DHCP feature
