Samsung Task Manager - The Green Bar Becomes Red??? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hmm...don't know what's going on...I've actually caught the Samsung Task Manager widget (usually green bar with orange number indicating apps still running in background) turn red. It'll turn red for just an instant (before I can take a screenshot) and there will be a scrolling message underneath...couldn't read it since all of a sudden the Task Manager widget went back to being normal.
Anyone else encounter this yet? Or am I just "unique?" Don't know if it's doing anything to the battery either...I'll see if it's reproducible and if I can get a screenshot, I'll upload the pic.
And since I'm on the topic of the Task Manager widget, is it normal for some apps (e.g.: goSMSPro, stock browser) to stay running in the background - even if I back out all the way out of the application to the homescreen?
Most apps will close fine when backing out all the way to the homescreen (email, camera, gallery) but I noticed that the stock messenger, goSMSPro, stock browser do not close? <-- Maybe this is related to the "red" task manager widget???

To get an app to close completely hit the back key. Pressing the home key doesn't. I don't know if this helps.

Yeah, that's what I stated. I didn't say hit the home button. I said back out all the way to the homescreen using the back arrow button. This will exit MOST apps as it appears that messenger apps (stock, gosmsPro) do not close but continue to run in the background and so does the stock web browser.
I'll have to test and see if there are other apps that "refuse" to close when using the back button.
I'll also confirm if this happens on my wife's SGSII...since she's UNROOTED & Stock, I can use her phone as my control subject.
That is if I can pry her away from her phone! LOL

Hmm...well, that's the thing...I just had the stock email app running and quickly backed out after manually refreshing. As the email app was still retrieving, I hit the home button and saw the Task Manager widget's app counter go up 1 number (as it should since I didn't completely exit the email app) but then the Task Manager turned red for about 3 seconds.
I tried to grab my phone to see what the scrolling description was underneath the bar but as quickly as I grabbed my phone, the widget went back to being green like nothing happened. ...weird...

It looks like, at least to me, that it turns red if an app is using more than 10% of the processor.

Thanks harlenm! You are quick on the draw with that screen capture! Yeah, I guess when I was retrieving email it must've spiked the CPU usage to 11% or so really quickly and then brought it back under 10%. It was so quick I didn't have a chance to capture it.
Hmm...now I can't wait to get home and see if the stock web browser, stock messenger (and goSMSPro) will exit properly on my wife's phone when I back out all the way or if they will have to be "exited" thru the Samsung Task Manager!
BTW, I like whatever theme you've got running - looks very nice!

Autostarts

Have you ever wondered just what is running in the background, using up all your memory, draining your battery and why/how apps can start themselves back up even after you have stopped them running either through the settings menu or with a task killer............
I did, so I looked into this app and this is what I've figured out so far.
Some apps (Google maps for example, as this is one of the worst culprits I've found so far) have rules built into them which can start the app running in the background whenever a certain parameter is met on your phone, this means that no matter how many times you kill the app it can always find a rule to get going again which is another reason you shouldn't use a task killer as they create an endless cycle app starts task killer kills it app starts again task killer kil........ you get the picture? Which often ends up using more resources which our wildfires are seriously lacking.
Some of the rules are ridiculous too such as Google maps can start itself simply by you plugging in the phones charger.
Well anyway back to the point, this app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.elsdoerfer.android.autostarts&hl=en autostarts can disable those rules (needs root access) and the best way to use it I feel is like this.
Start the app and wait a minute for it to load, then hit your menu button and choose group by application .
Search through the list and disable the parameters for apps you don't want running in the background.
Be very careful with system apps as some can stuff up the phone.
This app increases the speed of my phone big time and allows me to control what us running and when. I'd say its the best app I've ever bought.

Hi would this effect v6 supercharged script if i used this? this sounds a good app
Not to my knowledge, I'm running v6 too.
All it does is break the rules so an app you don't need in the background can't start until you allow it to by selecting it from the app drawer, then if you close/kill the app when you're done with it it shouldn't start up again by itself.

Thanks for reply. I will get it now. Can i ask a quick question? How do display your setup on each post? do you write it each time or copy paste? Sorry, its just new to commenting here and only been reading the forum for a year, learning lol.
---------- Post added at 06:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:12 PM ----------
sorry, me again could i just ask you what you set Google maps permissions in Autostart? as i can see, Ive turned all off apart from bottom 2. As the permissions seem not needed.
The way I set it up is all or nothing, that way every loophole is closed for apps I don't want running.
You can change your signature by clicking on your username top right, from there I can't remember as I'm not at a PC.
Click around in your profile till you find signature tab or edit signature.

Thanks for help Ive set one up now. I have found a logo picture from Google images of cm7.
I hope i haven't copied anyone's but if i have please pm me and ill change it.
Interesting app, will definitely try soon.
Feck me sideways!!!
Best app ever. Period.
Thanks for telling me about this app.
So all i have 2 do is to cross out apps that run when i "reboot"?
This is the 1st option of autostarts.
Thats all ?
Kind of but if an app doesn't really need to run, look at this picture and read the labels,
For example Google maps can start itself by plugging in your charger or installing a new app.

So to me the best way to deal with it would be to cancel everything then it will only start when i want it to and if you close it properly it won't hang about in the background.

[Q] Force Stop an App with a Shortcut?

Hi There. I'am searching for a way to kill an app after using it. Of course there are tools like advanced task killer, but some application will start automatically again and again after killing them with this tool.
Exactly I'am asking for stopping QQ Messenger. If I force stop this app it will stay stopped, but is there a way to create a shortcut or something simular, so I dont have to go into the whole menue to do this?
Regards, Sebastian
Is your Phone running cm7?Cause in cm7 you can force stop an app holding the back button for 2seconds
Sry for my bad English

Yes there is CM7 on it and I know this trick. But sometimes the wrong app switch to the front and I kill the wrong one.
A Shortcut or small App to kill other Apps would be great. For example something like the old "stop skype".
Nobody can help?
If you're using ADW that came with cm7. Long press the app icon on the home screen, choose Application infos, that will take you directly to the app's manage application which you can force kill

How about 'SwipePad'
Giving an app called 'SwipePad' a go which is available in the market. Within the app you can add a shortcut to Context Panel. Basically when you have the app open, trigger Swipepad from within the app and select Context Panel and force close.
also need this kind of app
I'm also looking for an app that can force stop white list apps with a single tap on its widget.
Going to info and hitting force stop is annoying, so this app should have root access to automatically
do it it for me. I use Super Manager and OS Monitor, but they can't force stop apps in the discribed way.
Advanced Task Killer can't do it either, i unistalled it.
So if someone knows about an app with this capability, or if someone has the knowledge to program smth.
like this, please make a thread and post a link here.

I thanked you by mistake instead of quoting. You're talking about the recent apps screen since ICS, but the OP is talking about Gingerbread. Also, in ICS and JB, if you swipe away an app from the recent apps screen, it's really being closed. Not running in the background. You can check your free RAM before and after swiping away an app to see if it's fully closing or not. Also if you open the app again, it'll take a considerable time rather than open instantly. This is because the app needs to be loaded into RAM all over again, which wouldn't happen if it wasn't fully closed.

Access Notifications While Browsing?

When I'm using the web browser, I can't access the notification pull down. So if texts or other things come in, I have to go to the home screen, pull down and then look at the notification. Am I missing something? Is there a setting? I would like to have the notification bar show up when the address bar does I think.
Use chrome..

this is a HUGE problem for me too. I've asked a couple times in different browser threads and no one likes to ask this. the only answer I've ever seen is just like this,a quick snappy "use this awesome browser instead" and I otherwise like the stock browser best. but seriously, this royally pisses me off too. anyone with a solution, please speak up
is there a way to install sense 3.0 browser on this phone from an evo 3d? I like the new browser in every way except the status bar thing mentioned here, and the loss of the omni-awesome-bar the old one had. is it just one system apk to install over, or is it more complicated than that?
...because, I've noticed other things I've tried, like the flashlight from the 3d, don't match the screen resolution and the button is not where you must press on screen to work it. would browser have this same problem? and, is it just one apk or more integrated with the system than that?
thank you,
With the E3D you have to tap the capacitive menu button while in some browsers to make the notifications bar reappear. Maybe try tapping the recent apps button?
doesn't work. even the recent app button won't let you get to the status bar. literally must go back to home screen, or switch to an app that shows the status bar. either way, the browser page reloads, which sucks if you are composing something or on YouTube
one work around is by clicking the refresh button ^_^
If you scroll to the top of the browser, options come up at the bottom of the screen (add, bookmarks, saved, tabs) If you hit tabs, the notification bar comes down and you can resume the page your viewing without refreshing

I'm having the same issue. My friend says his notification bar is pretty much permanent and if it doesn't appear, all he does is scroll to the top of the webpage and it appears. For those of us that are having problems, I think the most efficient option is to use the "refresh" workaround!

To get to the notification bar from the stock browser, just press and hold anywhere on the screen and the bar should appear.

Simplest way I've found is to flick the screen just a bit, as if you are going to scroll up or down, which makes the browser address/menu-bars appear. If you select 'Tabs' on the lower-right, you not only see your tabs but the notification bar also appears.

help to identify this icon?

I have been in the android scene for just under a year (since the release of the skyrocket)
I have an icon in my system tray today that i have never seen before. I have not added any new apps in over 2 weeks so nothing is new.
I have AVAST antivirus on my phone and that corner is where i normally have an orange dot to show the AV is running. I went into avast to see if anything was different but all looks normal.
Anyone see this icon before?

I'll be damned. Your right, that widget doesn't take you to the clock. Just about every other clock on the market does though when you click on the time. And weather if you click on it etc...
I use a widget like "One More Clock Widget" which allows you to set it to open any app depending on where you click.

LMT does have a pretty high learning curve. I can't get it to bring up the phone dialer. When I assign the "phone app" to a pie piece, the screen just goes blank after I select it.
I did find that making the piecontrol activation area thickness a lot wider than default makes it much easier to not accidentally get the Apex/Nova launcher menu.
