Wanting to root my Evo3D and need advice please!! - HTC EVO 3D

I have the Sprint Evo 3D and have been wanting to root for some time now and almost got the chance a few months ago but there had been an update just a day or two before I got the nerve and Idid the update and then found out that because the HBoots needed to be updated Iwasn't able to root and now with the IceCream Sandwich coming up I wasn't sure what to do.
Have the HBoots been updated? Is there a root for the 3D that will work with the last update from HTC? (That was back in late August I think)

1st off, the latest hboot from HTC would be 1.50 You need to know the hboot version. You can use revolutionary if you have 1.30 or 1.40 but if it says hboot1.50 then the only way is ttp unlock it the HTC way. If you do have hboot1.50 go to htcevohacks.com and there are some very easy instructions on how to do everything. If you are on 1.3 or 1.4 go to revolutionary.io for their instructions. If you do have to do the HTC way, you can flash kernels and Roman but just not splash screens. I am on the HTC unlocked and I have custom everything. The only difference is you have to use fastboot to boot into recovery and flash there so kernels will stick.

Here you go. this isnt my work but i can conferm that it works

HTC Evo 3D – How to ROOT, yes, even with the most recent updates!
Posted on October 12, 2011 by JJsax
Hey everyone! I know it’s been a while since I’ve personally posted to my own site (VERY thankful, and grateful for my other writers to keep this thing going) but I’m back
First of all, I wish I could say that this post was written all by me as there’s a ton of information below, but I can’t take all the credit. Thank you to runner77 from the Vaelpak forums for this write up.
As usual we here at The Root are not to be held responsible for what you do to your phone or should something go horribly wrong and you turn your pretty 3D into a paperweight. Make sure you read and understand everything below before you start the process.
Unfortunately, many of us that purchased an Evo 3D phone recently (after Sep 2011) got the preloaded HTC Hboot 1.50 version. Sadly, if you have this version the preferred method of attaining full root with S-Off doesn’t work. According to the developers of the preferred rooting tool Revolutionary (http://revolutionary.io/), HTC patched the previous S-off exploit with this new Hboot version. Therefore, they are working hard on finding another way for full root with 1.50 but they have stated that it will probably be awhile before release.
You can however still unlock the bootloader using HTC’s method and flash any custom ROM/kernels just like those with S-off on their 3Ds. It just requires some additional steps.
I compiled a guide from various sources but changed it to include the new superuser version and the TWRP recovery rather than CWM. This also includes steps on getting my favorite ROM VaelPak up and running after you achieve S-on root. Hopefully this will save you all hours of searching and headaches.
Again, I didn’t create the rooting process or steps, I simply compiled various instructions and links into a one stop location here. I jump back and fourth between my below guide and zedomax’s guides so I hope its not confusing.
Here we go… the following is my experience and the steps I performed the first day I got the 3D:
ROOTING (Unlocking the 3D via HTC’s method)
1. Unbox and turn on the phone. Play around with it to make sure it is working well. Go into settings, power, and UN-CHECK fastboot.
2. Shut down the phone and then pulled the battery for good measure.
3. Hold the volume down and power button for 10 seconds. This should get you into a white menu that shows your the Hboot version. If you have anything pre-Hboot 1.50 than you are lucky and are able to perform a FULL S-off root with this tool: http://revolutionary.io/ Follow their steps exactly as they list them. If your Hboot version is 1.50, then continue on…
4. Vaelek sent me the following link that includes zedomax’s guide with video which I watched and followed word for word. Open this link then come back here to perform steps 5 through 9 before starting zedomax’s process. http://htcevohacks.c…-unlock-method/
5. First thing you want to do from this link is download the rootevo3dnew.zip located in step 1 of the instructions. Here is the direct link if you can’t find it: http://downloadandro…ootevo3dnew.zip
6. Next, create a folder on your desktop (I assume you are on windows) and call it the same as the zip file, rootevo3dnew
7. Extract the zip file to the new folder you created on the desktop. The video shows this but you can go ahead and do this now before you get started.
8. Before starting the video and steps, if you want TWRP instead of CWM then download the modified TWRP recovery img file located in this post: http://forum.xda-dev…3&postcount=223 . Put that downloaded .img file in the same folder on your desktop that you extracted the rootevo3dnew.zip in. The folder you created called rootevo3dnew.
9. Next, the superuser zip file that came with the rootevo3dnew.zip and is used in zedomax’s step 21 is an older version (2.3.6.3). Download the newer 3.0 version. You’ll use it later in steps 21 and 22 of zedomax’s guide. The zip file can be found here: http://downloads.and…efgh-signed.zip Again, once you download it, put the .zip file (do not extract it) into the rootevo3dnew folder.
10. Start the video and follow the steps that zedomax walks you through until you reach step 18 of his guide.
11. Modified step 18:
a. To use TWRP recovery rather than CWM, type this instead of what is shown on zedomax’s instructions: fastboot flash recovery twrp-1.0.3-modified.img
b. This is the file you downloaded above. Remember, this has to be in the rootevo3dnew folder to work.
12. Continue on to step 21 of zedomax’s guide.
13. Modified step 21 & 22:
a. To install the latest Superuser version, use the .zip file you downloaded earlier rather than the one that came in zedomax’s rootevo3dnew.zip.
b. The file you will move to your SD and flash in zedomax’s step 22 is called su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip
14. Finish up with step 23!
Once you reboot, download Titanium Backup and open it to confirm you have root access. You might also want to verify that the superuser app is now available in your app drawer. If it is, open it and then navigate to preferences and check for updates. Lastly, if this achieved root for you then please go back to zedomax’s guide and thank him!
FLASHING ROMS & KERNELS
If you want to flash VaelPak or other custom ROMs, you must boot into recovery through fastboot. Apparently fastbooting into recovery allows you write access to certain partitions contained in the phone. S-off roots (Hboot 1.40 or lower) don’t have to worry about this. Hopefully the unrevoked team can find a new exploit with Hboot 1.50 in the near future so we don’t have to be next to a computer to flash roms and kernels. I’ve read that some user can wipe and flash roms without going through fastboot. However, if you are near your computer and want to good flash, I highly recommend booting recovery through fastboot.
Basically you need to follow zedomax’s other guide located here every time you want to flash a rom or kernel: http://htcevohacks.c…-3d-htc-unlock/ . You’ll use the same files in the rootevo3dnew folder you created. However, if you want to use TWRP recovery rather than CWM’s, you need to change zedo’s fastboot command instructions to the following: fastboot boot twrp-1.0.3-modified.img (you can always rename this file to whatever you like. I shorten it to recoveryTWRP.img). Just make sure the TWRP .img file is still located in the rootevo3dnew folder.

If your running 2.17.651.5
Search on YouTube. "Root eco 3d 2.17.651.5 and will get this video made my htcevo3dhacks

[Guide][Flyer]Honeycomb S-OFF, Easy Install, Recovery and Root. [US Wifi Added]

Instructions Part 1
This thread is not for discussing general Honeycomb problems so don't post here if it's not related to running this procedure.
Important: Charge your Flyer fully before running this procedure ( see section: problems below)
This version is the release version of HoneyComb from HTC.
If you are on Honeycomb and got there by following other honeycomb install methods than the one in this thread then you MUST follow the steps in part 1.
If you are already S-OFF on gingerbread, or ran *this* procedure previously skip to Part 2.
You must be running a version of gingerbread supported by revolutionary
If you are not on an appropriate gingerbread version, eg. if you have upgraded to honeycomb then downgrade by using an appropriate RUU; to identify your RUU see: here
If you get the following error: "Main Version is older! Update Fail! Press <POWER> to reboot" the instructions are here for windows or here for Mac/Linux
Run revolutionary, there is no reason to install ClockWorkMod recovery at this point, say no when asked.
After following the steps above, you should be on a stock Gingerbread installation with revolutionary S-OFF.
Instructions Part 2
The large download is a stock HoneyComb 3.55.405.1 for 3G and 3.55.1114.31 for WIFI with the following changes:
Rooted
Busybox
Secure flag turned off on the boot image
Stock recovery replaced by CWM
Beginner procedure: If you are a novice using windows
Download the appropriate RUU file:
Code:
3G [URL="http://hyuh.net/files/flyer/RUU_3G_B09.zip"]RUU_3G_B09.zip[/URL]
WIFI [URL="http://hyuh.net/files/flyer/RUU_FLYER_WIFI_B10.zip"]RUU_FLYER_WIFI_B10.zip[/URL]
US-WIFI [url=http://hyuh.net/files/flyer/RUU_FLYER_WIFI_BBUS_B10.zip]RUU_FLYER_WIFI_BBUS_B10.zip[/url]
Extract the downloaded file. Open the extracted folder and run ARUWizard.exe
Click through the wizard and wait for it to complete
You're done, do not do any of the steps below.
Advanced procedures: If you want more control or are using MacOS or Linux
download the file that you require as follows:
If you want a stock rooted HoneyComb ROM
Be warned this is a BIG download :
Code:
MD5 Filename

If you intend to immediately install a custom HC ROM:
Code:
MD5 Filename
--------------------------------------------------------------
3G-Wifi: f1a04839f7b187887c77b4ab552cc2fb [URL="http://hyuh.net/files/flyer/HC-3g-light.zip"]HC-3G-light.zip[/URL]

Install the custom RUU
If you are running this procedure starting from Gingerbread the rom flash WILL fail first time, you must flash twice, if starting from honeycomb it might only require a single pass.
Method1: Using fastboot:
Get fastboot and adb tool for windows here, get Windows fastboot drivers here
Get Fastboot and adb for linux here
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip <downloaded file name>
[I][COLOR=Blue]Flashing will fail with Error 90 first time due to hboot change[/COLOR][/I]
fastboot flash zip <downloaded file name>
[I][COLOR=Blue]The on screen indicator on the phone will not reach fully to the right end of the progress bar, this is ok[/COLOR][/I]
fastboot reboot
Method 2: Using bootloader - NOTE I strongly recommend using method 1.
Rename the downloaded file PG41IMG.zip
Transfer the file to the root of your SD card
Reboot to hboot, which will detect and install the update.
Note it will require two passes to complete the upgrade due to hboot change
If you used the full upgrade file (BIG download) you are finished, enjoy.
If you used the light image now restore your nandroid backup or flash your custom ROM now - then you are finished.
Problems
If you encounter problems after this procedure where your device does not boot properly (white screen with HTC logo) . Power-off fully and seek assistance from me. The reason for this is that you may have an invalid combination of hboot and recovery/boot images. In such a scenario a flyer will not charge when powered off. The reason for powering off at this point is to ensure that there is sufficient battery power remaining to fix the problem before you end up in an unrecoverable state. If the battery falls below 30% you will not be able to flash and I will not be able to help you. Do this by booting into fastboot mode then choosing power-down from the menu.

Other Information
This method of installation will set your main version to 1.36.100.0 on 3G flyers and 1.36.0001.01 for Wifi models. The reason for this is to make that number lower than any RUU that exists for your device. This simplifies future downgrades by making it unnecessary to ever run the misc_version downgrade procedure.
FAQ
Q: Do I need to flash recovery/root something else after this?
A: No, the procedure will give you root, recovery and busybox.

S-OFF Downgrade
Instructions Part 1
This thread is not for discussing general Honeycomb problems so don't post here if it's not related to running this procedure.
To go completely back to stock and S-ON, follow the instructions here. The instructions in the link will work for either Gingerbread or HoneyComb, make sure you use an RUU for your CID.
Important: Charge your Flyer fully before running this procedure ( see section: problems below)
If you are on Honeycomb and got there by following other honeycomb install methods this procedure is not for you.
You must have a revolutionary hboot to use this procedure.
You must download the gingerbread RUU for your device unless you are going to immediately install a custom ROM or restore a nandroid backup.
Note: There is no FULL version downgrade due to the number of localized versions that exist for the Flyer.
You must download the gingerbread RUU for your device unless you are going to immediately install a custom ROM.
After following the steps above, you should be on a gingerbread compatible base with revolutionary S-OFF and CWM, nothing more or less than that.
Procedure
download the file that you require as follows:

scotty1223 for giving me the kick in the ass to get this done Thanks scotty!
hi globatron,
first of all thanks for the hard work..
second, this is the first time i'm gonna root or apply a custom rom on my flyer so would you say this tutorial would be enough for me to do the whole process? or should i look at some other information before applying this?
thanks
Safe to assume this version of hboot will be compatiblewith all hc leaks?
Having s off will allow us to upgrade easier?
Thank you for all your efforts

sarpsuerdas try it, if you get stuck ask questions. If I'm not online most people here have already done things very similar to this and will try to help.
mcord11758, all the ones so far but you never know about future ones, what it will mean for sure is no downgrade to GB if an incompatible hboot comes along, and I'll update then if needed.
awsome! thanks for your hard work. cant wait to get my flyer back so i can install it
is this hboot protecting itself from being overwritten?
I'm assuming no go to the View, correct? Even if you have no use for the 4g modem? =)
Do you suggest running actual ruu or fastboot flash to revert to gb

just to be clear
Im on rooted LeeDroid rom Ginger S Off. I should revert to S on and then move forward?

Makes no difference really. I always use fastboot because it gives me better feedback but whatever is easiest.

No, skip to Part 2.
sorry for the novice questions but I got only one question in mind that will decide whether I will install this or not..
after completing the process, will my Flyer be able to use the honeycomb market, download the hc compatible apps and use the stylus as it should be with sketchbook etc?

It worked! It was so extremely easy! I used Method 1 and presto! Here I am! Thanks Globatron! Looks like I will be ising English from the UK, though....Hmmmm....it will be fun reading realize as realise. Lol.
You are AMAZING!
All the hc leaks do not have united states english

Please excuse my ignorance but I am not quite sure what I will gain by doing this. I am currently running FlyHoney V1 on my WiFi BB Flyer and everything is running fine. I appreciate all of the hard work and effort but I just want to better understand this.

You get an S-OFF HBOOT with HC, previously you only had an unlocked bootloader via HTC Unlock and S-ON.
I was able to do this successfully with Method 1 (fastboot commands too).
Thank you globatron for your hard work!
Can someone please help me?
I am stuck at the revolutionary stage, unfortunately.. I have a 32 Flyer 3G and the revolutionary just tells me to drink the lemonade again and again.. The firmware is still the stock Flyer ROM with the updates done.. haven't performed any extra modification on it yet..
The details are:
Android 2.3.4
1.0 for Tablet
Software No: 2.23.405.4
I have applied the revolutionary process stage by stage just as it says.. but it can't pass the fastboot stage..
Is the process for downgrading to gingerbread still the same, or can I just restore a gingerbread backup if I want?

[Q] Help! How do i root My HTC EVO 3D

I have Looked around, and i tried to follow n-God i think it was and it didnt work, i have searched and tried different tutorials or techniques, my problem is that i have to unlock my HTC EVO 3D which i have done using the official HTC unlock website, and now i have to downgrade, to hboot 1.49.0007/8 because i am on 1.49.0018, i know what to do after i downgrade ( use revolution ) but i just cant get it to downgrade, it is a uk phone so its GSM and EMEA i think, so can someone post a step by step with links or a video thanks
I don't have an idea but take a look at the stickies in the gsm section of the EVO 3D and then if nothing look in general. And most of all read everything.

Hi firstly I'm a complete noob too. I'm in exactly the same situation as you. A UK gsm with .018 hboot only reason I have not tried the downgrade yet is my phone is still away for repair. Anyway from what I understand from that guide is you bypass the first 3 steps as you and I don't need to change cid as we got European phones hence the correct cid. And it does day make sure you relock your bootloader if its unlocked. (step 3) and I think it has to say locked and not relocked. I hope this is of some help as I said I'm a complete novice and will be following the guide when my phone returns so let me know if it works and if someone points out anything I've said is wrong I apologise I'm just trying to help

This is how i s-offed mine, i put together a quick guide for a different forum:
- it is for GSM european phones with the required CID already.
You can check your cid with : fastboot getvar cid
1. Follow this guide from point 4 as our CID is already as required. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316578
2. Use this tool to s-off and install clockwork mod. http://revolutionary.io/
3. Then roms can be installed via clockwork mod and/or the stock rom can be rooted. see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680

Hello well lets see ok good you have completed step one now step two you need to install a custom recovery i like cwmr_Revolutionary_4.0.1.4.img custom recovery is a good one and it has the least problem's and step three you will need to flash the su -2.3.6.3-efgh-signed this is what give's you root access you will have to flash this using you pc via comand promts and after this you now have a rooted devise i would sugest flashing lee droid rom for starter's and next when your ready to down grade the Hboot you will have go to the threads and you will see file's that say ruu this is what you need to down grade and you will also want the one that say's Hboot 1.49.007 or 1.49.008 download any of the two and after you have downloaded copy and past it in root folder of sd card and may have to rename it you can do this part on the evo using es file explore make sure it says PG86IMG.zip even if says PG86IMG.zip i want you to rename it anyway why because windows hide's the file ext so it will read like this PG86IMG.zip.zip if you see this all you have do is delete that second .zip at the end now thats done your ready for the down grade copy and past the PG86IMG.zip file in the root folder of your sd card ok now battery pull now put battery back in press volume down power and dont let go until it boot's in to bootloader now let find the zip then it will say start update you press volume up for yes now sit back and let it do the update and when its done it will reboot and now you have Hboot 1.49.007 now your ready to s off head on over to alpharevolutionary.io

was super difficult to read, and you probably need to add punctuations
EDIT : Reason : Punctuations ?
You need to flash older Stock ROM in signed PG86IMG.zip, which includes HBOOT 1.49.0007. Then you are able to root your phone using revolutionary. But i recommend you to get either CWM4 or 4EXT recovery, which don't have charge bugs.
You dont need to use HTC's method since you are on .018
Get a PG86IMG.zip and use that to downgrade Hboot to .07/.08
After which use revolutionary to s-off and flash a recovery.
Make a nand backup
and get flashing
Im trying to look for the tutorial i used where all the links are, ill edit once i find it sorry
Here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316578 ; use this to downgrade Hboot, and because its a European phone, you dont need to change CID so basically start from step 4

[TOOL] HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit Live CD (or USB) - Free Your Phone. S-OFF.

Hello everyone. This is a breakoff from Unknownforce's HBOOT 1.50 to 1.40 downgrade thread. I created a Live CD to help make the downgrade process a bit easier.
Just a little housekeeping before we start:
Please! If you have a question, do not post it in both downgrade threads. Doing so makes it hard to follow what you've already done. Many people frequently visit both threads and will see your question. Thank you for your cooperation.
All credit goes to Unknownforce for making it possible to downgrade the EVO 3D. I take absolutely no credit for the downgrade method. My aim in creating the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit was to make Unknownforce's downgrade method as easy and painless as possible. Thank you to him and everybody else listed below.
See post #3 for:
- Full Step-by-step directions
- Bootable USB flash drive instructions
- Other useful resources (How to burn an ISO to a CD)
Important! Please Read this!
- This is for CDMA phones only! DO NOT USE THIS IF YOU HAVE A GSM EVO 3D!
- Test that your computer will boot the Toolkit before Bricking! Use the 'Check device status' function in the Toolkit to see if your phone is being recognized (USB debugging must be enabled on your phone (Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging).
See Unknownforce's thread for bricking instructions.
- Do not do this if you already have S-OFF! If you aren't sure whether your already S-OFF, boot into the bootloader on your phone (Power off -> Hold down 'Volume Down (-)' and the power button). If you see S-ON, you're fine. If you have any questions, feel free to post them inside the thread.
- Charge up your battery - know that you have at least a decent (even 50 or 60%) amount of battery power going in. It will save you a lot of frustration later.
- If you are flashed to a different carrier: you must keep a record of the settings for your phone, as they will be wiped when you do this process.
Again. This is less scary than it sounds! I promise.

Questions
What is this?
This is a Live-Bootable Linux-based CD that attempts automates many of the steps that are required for the downgrade process. It's designed to make the task less daunting to users unfamiliar with Linux. It does not install anything onto your computer, and contains the drivers right inside of it.
Is there risk involved?
I won't lie. There is a small amount of risk using this. Then again, there is a small amount of risk with almost everything you do with your phone. There's even some risk in the HTCDev method. Doing this is a lot less scary than it sounds. Many people have used this method, and many have used the Toolkit to simplify the process. If you have questions, you may always post them inside the thread.
Is this a one-click method?
No. Not quite. It will still require you to use short commands.
Will I still have to work in a Terminal?
Yes... But don't leave yet. Most of the processes are done for you, and require entering a single letter to run a process.
Should I backup my phone before doing this?
Yes. Whenever doing something like this, you should always make backups! Also, this method will require you to flash a RUU after you are done downgrading and doing the Revolutionary S-OFF. You WILL lose all data on your phone (not SD Card) when applying the 1.13 RUU.
How do I know that my phone is bricked?
If the screen powers on and displays anything at all, it is not bricked.
I'm unlocked using the HTCDev method. Do I have to do anything different?
You will have to lock your bootloader before starting. Since you likely already have the benefit of backing up, do that before locking. Lock your device by using the HTCDev Relock feature in the Toolkit, or the command: fastboot oem lock while in the bootloader (Fastboot-USB mode) on your phone. If you are running a custom ROM, there is a chance that your phone will reboot and give you a Security Warning. You will have to apply a stock 2.08 or 2.17 RUU before proceeding. Get the 2.17 RUU from here, rename it to PG86IMG.zip (If file extensions (.zip, .doc, .mp3) are set not to show in Windows, just rename the file 'PG86IMG'.) and place it on the root (main directory) of your SD Card. Boot up your phone and run the RUU all the way through. Remember, running this RUU will erase all data on your phone (not SD-Card though). Now, continue as if you hadn't taken the HTCDev Unlock.

The HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit Live CD is a bootable version of Linux (don't worry! ) that simplifies a lot of the process of Downgrading your HBOOT from 1.5 to 1.4.

Support
Please make sure to keep this thread limited to questions and comments on the live CD. For support with the Downgrade method, it's probably best to keep discussion in Unknownforce's thread. I will try my best to support the CD, but I cannot guarentee that I will be able to continue to answer questions about the CD.

Step By Step How-to Downgrade With the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit
Updated for the new version! 0.8.0+
Test that your computer will boot the Toolkit before Bricking! Use the 'Check device status' function in the Toolkit to see if your phone is being recognized (Power the phone off completely. May require you to pull the battery and put it back in. Plug the phone into the computer).
Please follow the steps as closely as possible! Even if a step seems redundant or unnecessary, there's a reason that you are doing it. If you have any questions about the guide, please feel free to ask in the thread.
Read the Important Information section in the first post (at the very least) before starting!
1. Download 2.17 RUU Zip, 1.13 RUU EXE, Latest Version of Boot CD
2. Backup your phone
3. Burn the CD or USB flash drive with the instructions below
4. Ensure that you can boot into the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit before bricking!
--IF YOU ARE HTCDev UNLOCKED--
5. Reboot your computer into the Toolkit (CD/USB flash drive)
6. Power off your phone completely (you may have to pull the battery and put it back in after powering off)
7. Plug the phone into the computer without powering it on
8. Use the 'Bootloader' command. This should power back on the phone. (If not, Hold Vol - and press the power button) - Ensure that you are S-ON. (If you see the word 'FASTBOOT' highlighted in red, hit the power button)
9. If you are HTCDev Unlocked -> Run the 'Relock' command from the main menu.
10. Reboot your computer and continue.
-----
11. Copy 2.17 RUU to the SDCard. Make sure that it's named PG86IMG.zip.
--Bricking the phone (Temporarily)--
12. It's best if you read Unknownforce's instructions for bricking.
13. It's always best to check that you have bricked successfully to save yourself frustration later on.
14. > Put the battery back into the phone. Wait about 7-8 seconds.
15. > Press the power button. If charge light is solid-dim, or doesn't come on at all and the screen does not power on, you've successfully bricked the phone.
16. > If the charge light is blinking, (and/or the screen turns on), the phone isn't bricked. Keep on trying!
-----
17. Once the phone is in a bricked state, boot up into the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit.
18. Leave the battery OUT OF your phone. Don't plug it in yet.
19. From the main menu, use the 'Downgrade' command.
20. Read the on-screen instructions carefully.
21. Press enter until you see the words "Waiting for device..."
22. While holding down the Volume - button, plug the phone in. (REMEMBER: No battery in phone)
23. Follow the on-screen instructions.
24. It should ask you to unplug the USB cable and press enter.
25. When you see the words "Waiting for device..." move on to the next step.
26. While holding down the Volume - button, plug the phone back in.
27. If it worked, then you have successfully downgraded your Bootloader. Put your battery back into your phone, Hold down Vol - and press power.
28. Now. Reboot into Windows and run the 1.13 RUU EXE that you downloaded.
29. When that's done, reboot back into the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit.
30. Power back on phone into Android.
31. Run Revolutionary from the menu. You'll be required to input your beta code from the Revolutionary website.
32. You may need to let Revolutionary rerun several times.
33. When you see "-Revolutionary-" at the top of your bootloader, you have achieved Revolutionary S-OFF!
34. Flash Recovery from the main menu.
35. Remove the PG86IMG file from your SD Card! Do NOT let it run again!
36. Optional: Run the 2.17 Firmware Update ZIP from here. Place it on your SD Card just like the PG86IMG file that you used to brick the device with. Boot up into the bootloader and let this run all the way through. (Recommended)
WARNING: DO NOT BRICK YOUR DEVICE AGAIN AFTER GETTING S-OFF. THIS WILL PERMA-BRICK THE DEVICE. RECOVERING FROM THE CD WILL NOT WORK. THE PHONE WILL NOT GO INTO THE SAME RECOVERY DOWNLOAD MODE AS AN S-ON DEVICE WOULD.
IMPORTANT: If you decide to stay with the stock ROM, DO NOT EVER take OTA (Over-The-Air) updates! Taking one will likely put you back on HBOOT 1.50.
36. I recommend that you flash a custom ROM. If you want to stay on a (mostly) stock ROM, I would recommend that you flash one of Mr.Esp's Stock Rooted ROMs. They will not "upgrade" your bootloader to HBOOT 1.50.
37. After you have done that, go ahead and make a Backup in your custom recovery.
After running Revolutionary, it is normal for your bootloader's version number to be 1.40.1100.
Have fun on HBOOT 1.40 S-OFF!

How to run the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit from a Flash Drive
I've realized that there is enough demand for being able to run the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit from something other than a CD-ROM drive.
Thanks to Disturb3d1/wwjoshdew and Mpgrimm2 for the suggestion!
Instructions for 0.6.5s or Higher
What you'll need:
A 256MB USB Flash Drive (Almost any flash drive you have laying around)
HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit ISO 0.6.5s or Higher (Above)
Core2USB
Step 1. Simply download Core2USB from here.
Step 2. Choose your USB Flash Drive and format it (This will delete all files from it, so back them up).
Step 3. Run the Core2USB software. It won't install anything on your computer.
Step 4. Browse to the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit ISO.
Step 5. Double-click on the letter of your USB Flash Drive. Make sure that this is the correct drive.
Step 6. Click Install
Step 7. Reboot your computer with the USB Flash Drive inserted, and follow the onscreen instructions to downgrade your HBOOT.
Don't pull the flash drive out while you are booted into the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit Environment!

Just take the money! If it wasn't for Fuses, Unknownforce wouldn't have his method. Now if it wasn't for you, some people wouldn't have 1.4
But seriously, good job
So I haven't even finished Downloading them, let alone uploading them but when they are done they will be HERE
I say give it 30 minutes and the first iso will be up their, I will post when it's done
(Don't worry I pay for Mediafire Pro so their shouldn't be a problem)
This looks very promising. Good work!
Once I can get people to verify that this works without fault mind if I post this on my site?

Thanks. I will still need a few people to test the new version though. I can't guarantee that it's working fully. Old version is going strong as far as I'm concerned.
Sorry closeone for some reason the upload restarted ,should be up in about 45 minutes (both of them)
Edit: test iso is now there
since zergRoot supports 2.08 ruu i would have to convert from 2.17 since tacoroot isnt in the new release
NICE! This is awesome. I'm sure someone will come up with a one click though.

Most likely not. It requires you at least boot into Linux after finished changing your mainver in windows so you can't have a full one click, plus the whole part about bricking your device can't be one clicked you have to Pull the AC power on your phone at the exact right time to brick .
And the Linux step requires you to pull the plug on phone at the right time.
So a one click won't happen. They can only make it slightly easier.
Although its not hard at all.
yeah, but a short delay, like "press enter when phone boots" or something.

Is this what your looking for.
If your Hboot version is 1.50, then continue on… 4. Vaelek sent me the following link that includes zedomax’s guide with video which I watched and followed word for word. Open this link then come back here to perform steps 5 through 9 before starting zedomax’s process. http://htcevohacks.c…-unlock-method/5. First thing you want to do from this link is download the rootevo3dnew.zip located in step 1 of the instructions. Here is the direct link if you can’t find it: http://downloadandro…ootevo3dnew.zip 6. Next, create a folder on your desktop (I assume you are on windows) and call it the same as the zip file, rootevo3dnew 7. Extract the zip file to the new folder you created on the desktop. The video shows this but you can go ahead and do this now before you get started. 8. Before starting the video and steps, if you want TWRP instead of CWM then download the modified TWRP recovery img file located in this post: http://forum.xda-dev… 3&postcount=223 . 11. Modified step 18: a. To use TWRP recovery rather than CWM, type this instead of what is shown on zedomax’s instructions: fastboot flash recovery twrp-1.0.3-modified.img b. This is the file you downloaded above. Remember, this has to be in the rootevo3dnew folder to work. 12. Continue on to step 21 of zedomax’s guide. 13. Modified step 21 & 22: a. To install the latest Superuser version, use the .zip file you downloaded earlier rather than the one that came in zedomax’s rootevo3dnew.zip. b. The file you will move to your SD and flash in zedomax’s step 22 is called su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip 14.

My phone was as the OP's when i got it (ASDA few weeks a go)
I just used this tut to get it to s-off..
basically install evo drivers to pc, put PG86IMG.zip file on sd card, let the phone downgrade automatically in the h-boot, the use the revolution programme to s-off and install a CMW.
I think this method works if your cid is 001 (use cid getter from market to check), no need for htc-unlock or anything

Scripts to assist with S-OFF

Per mjones73
Why are you flashing the RUU first? It's not needed. If you're already rooted and unlocked, steps 1-11 aren't needed either if you want to save some time.
If you aren't rooted and unlocked, just follow the rooting guide in the Dev section, there's no reason to RUU there either.

My response:
I was having several problems with flashing the program. It could simply of been a result of not having the latest Hboot with the ControlBear.exe zip. If that fails, then try the steps below. I also noticed if I didn't do the steps below, I would never get the wire trick on the hboot screen. It would only show on the black HTC screen.
I made some scripts that will save a lot of time when trying to go S-off. I also included a ZIP that has the correct hboot in it if anyone's interested in using it.
Prequisites:
1) Have Hboot of 2.21+
2) Download the Scripts I have in place or run them through fastboot yourself.
3) Disable HTC Sync.
Here's my method and it seemed to work well.
1) Download ControlBearRelease-vigor-ics-windows
2) Ensure ControlBearRelease-Vigor-ICS-Windows has the latest "jb_hboot.zip" in the zipped folder.
3) Relock your device. You can use the .bat file below, just make sure you edit it with notepad to ensure your paths are correct. Your's might be different than mine.
http://www.mediafire.com/?i493322n33bfqax
4) After you've relocked your device, Get the Stock RUU and rename it as PH98IMG.zip then place that on the root of your SD Card. I've included the Stock RUU Link here:
http://lts.cr/Be5_
5) After you've placed the PH98IMG.zip on the root of your SD card, place it in your Rezound, then battery, then press Power plus Volume down until Hboot comes on. When it asked you, if you want to run the update, select "yes."
6)After about 5 minutes, your update should be complete. Battery pull, then place your SD card into a SD reader then rename the PH98IMG.zip to RUU-PH09IMG.zip(so it won't run again on fastboot until we need it to.) Place it back into the Rezound and the battery.
7) Go back into the Hboot screen, by holding power on and volume down until it loads. Once it loads, run my 2-adb-Push_unlock.bat. This will unlock your device. Just make sure you change the path to where your token is and save the .bat file.
http://www.mediafire.com/?u6500a60panw1qw
8) After you've unlocked the device, battery pull and get back to the hboot screen. What you want to do now is install Recovery. You can do this by using my script or modifying it with your director path.
http://www.mediafire.com/?eegd20xc4b8d5hd
9) After you have installed Recovery, battery pull again and Hboot the screen. Select recovery. If recovery fails or it just boots to ROM, battery pull and try again. It takes a couple times for Recovery to start up but it should load.
10) Once you're in Recovery, install CleanROM Standard 4.3.zip. This worked for me which is why I'm recommending it.
11) After you've flashed CleanROM Standard 4.3, go into your settings>Develop option>Turn on Debugging mode.
12) Run ControlBear.exe. This part was messing me up for a while. I didn't realize the jb_hboot.zip wasn't updated. The zip I have posted DOES have the corrected file. After I had that corrected, everything seemed to flow.
Notes:
If you mess up on anything, you'll need to repeat all the steps over. Especially if you have a black screen with Small disk in the center, just battery pull, Relock, Install RUU, Unlock, Reinstall Recovery, Install CleanROM 4.3, Run the program until you get the timing right.
Why are you flashing the RUU first? It's not needed. If you're already rooted and unlocked, steps 1-11 aren't needed either if you want to save some time.
If you aren't rooted and unlocked, just follow the rooting guide in the Dev section, there's no reason to RUU there either.

I'm glad to get some clarification on that. I had trouble running the program last night and was advised by a couple of my peers to do this. It worked. I guess if anyone is having problems, they can resort to this thread.
