Cheap unlimited 4G Data anyone? - HTC Amaze 4G

If you guys have the Amaze and tired of tmobiles BS 5GB throttling cap then you can switch to simplemobile they use tmobile's network.
Make sure you get their $60 / month unlimited talk text and 4g plan because their 3g plan sucks and throttles you at 120 kbps, but the 4g has no throttling and i topped out at 25 mbps on the speed test on the hspa+ 42 network.

It shouldn't work
the APN is simple if you wanna play around with it.

Is it possible to use a Simple Mobile SIM in the Amaze without unlocking it?

Anyone tried using the Simple Mobile APN setting on T-mobile HTC Amaze? If yes, does the throttling cap still works?
Also, What value string is used for MMSC parameter in the APN setting?

It should be possible since Simple is an MVNO (mobile virtual network provider) of T-Mobile. However, since I don't have a Simple Mobile SIM to check with, I can't be a hundred percent sure. Sorry.

No, I WAS answering the question whether a Simple Mobile SIM would work in a T-Mobile locked Amaze. You will have to find out for yourself if your usage while connected to Simple counts against your data cap.

Help AT&T Atrix on Tmobile

I just bought the prepaid 4G prepaid plan using my atrix and I'm only getting 2G speed. I read that it has to do with the frequency. I can't afford to buy a new phone, so I'm hoping to be able to change the phone frequency or hear any other solution that someone has already tried to get 4G speed. Thanks!

Hey, sorry I dont have a solution to your question but a question myself lol. I'm looking to switch to t-mobile pre-paid or month to month also. What all did you have to do to make the switch? Pretty simple?
someone already asked about using their atrix on the T-Mobile network.
search for it. I'm sure you'll find the answer with about 15 or less of search time.

and I found it already. took me like 5-7 minutes. and it's only because I read a few different threads as well.
so yeah. search. quite easily found.

Its impossible to change the frequency of a device. There's a reason these things have to go through the FCC before they hit the market. Enjoy your EDGE. I recommend checking out Opera Mini, if you can live with some weird looking pages it'll speed up your web browsing quite a bit.
Not possible by software. Sorry.

Both white and black are the same, yes you will get 3G and 4G coverage on at&t since 4G is hspa and at&t supports hspa.
No this phone doesn't have lte and just a heads up, though you will get 4G, it might not be as fast t-mobile from what I've heard, their HSPA isn't that fast but still pretty decent.
I appreciate that.

I used to work for Business End User Care for AT&T. As of the time I left (november), if you placed your sim in a smartphone and used it for about a day the system would add the lowest data plan and send you a text message indicating it had been added to your account. Even if you were using someone's phone while your "feature phone" wad being replaced, it was required. I've had to read that section of the TOS to many, many angry people. I would call and confirm just to be safe.

DO NOT CALL to ask..... as they won't know the answer, and might put a note on your account to force a data plan(well, you could call and ask on someone else's phone without giving your account number)
the primary way (so far that I've seen) that AT&T detects your smartphone is via IMEI. Secondary might be you using >100GB/month, connecting to their 4G APN settings, going to a store for help and letting the customer rep see that you have a smartphone
does AT&T have your IMEI? probably not.... AT&T has IMEI of all of their smartphones, so you can't use an AT&T smartphone. You can try using an (unlocked) t-mobile phone, but might not support the right 3G/4G bands that AT&T use. You can try international phones, canda phones(from Bell, Telus...). WARNING>>>. AT&T might have your IMEI because the manufacture gave them the IMEI(See Google Nexus phones), inference from branded phones that they carry(eg Phone is sold/branded by AT&T and t-mobile... AT&T gets a list of their phone IMEIs that might include t-mobile's IMEIs), screwups(Samsung Note overseas was misentered as a tablet on AT&T's network, white i9100 Galaxy SII is misentered as a Blackberry on AT&T's network)
The link at the end of this post gives a guide to what phones are 100% compatible(3G/4G on 850/1900) on AT&T's network.
According to this, the T-Mobile Amaze 4G is compatible with AT&T 3G/4G, but I have some confusion on the 850/1900 mhz band for the 3G/4G data, trying to sort it out(last few posts on that thread)

data issues

I purchased an S 2 from AT&T a while back. I have sense let my plan run out and now bought a prepaid SIM card. the problem is is that now my data does not work because of the 4 G AT&T does not offer 4 G with a prepaid. there is hardly any 4 G coverage where I'm from anyways but I would at least like the 3G to work. is there a way that I can get it to work like flashing ROM or something. I'm not a total noob to this stuff I just hang out at android Forums because of my zte. thank you very much for any of your help.

If your SIM card doesnt allow it, then its not gonna be possible. No S/W can change that.
But if your SIM does allow 3g, then odds are you need proper APN settings. Google it if thats the case.

Evo LTE PRL Roaming Options

I've used CDMA Workshop to update my PRL using all the different PRLs posted on this site, from 00001 - 56xxx. I seemed to get the best results with 11119 last billing cycle. I roamed over 31GB but no letter from Sprint. So I was going to continue to take advantage of the speeds until they warn me.
However, when I tried yesterday, I get very slow speeds with all the PRLs and my Sprint data usage page always shows Sprint 3g & Sprint 4g numbers increasing, but not Sprint 3g roaming usage. What's weird is the phone NEVER connects to LTE service so how is my 4g usage amount increasing? I know some of the PRLs listed would not show the roaming indicator although I was indeed roaming. But the Sprint usage page only shows Sprint usage increasing.
Anyways, when I flash 11119 or any other PRL from the XDA site, do I also need to set the Roam Only option in Settings -> Mobile Data -> Roaming (MeanBean ROM & I'm not opposed to switching ROMs if that's the issue)? My current Sprint PRL via Update PRL is 24012. Should I just keep the Sprint PRL and set the Roam Only option for Mobile Data? I tried it briefly and it switches my connection to 1x. Will 1x still count as 3G roaming? It's slow as heck so I can't imagine 1x data usage pushing my usage numbers up very high.
Only my 2nd post so forgive me if I posted in the wrong area, asked stupid questions, etc. Blast me and I'll get it all right the next time ... I promise!!

Technically Sprint CAN charge .25$ per megabyte over 300mb usage of off-network roaming, by the way That would be quite the bill you'd have there. Sprint is tricky and unpredictable in most cases. I'd be careful. Just my .25$. Lol.

There may be a provision that Sprint *can* charge you extra for roaming, but I've never heard of it actually happening to anyone in practice. It seems to be standard procedure that they just drop you after a certain amount of time of excessive roaming, and they give you advance notice that you're being dropped. I've actually seen a copy of the letter they send. In my personal experience, I've never been charged extra for roaming despite routinely going over their 300mb cap.

[Q] Unlocked my AT&T One, Popped in T-Mobile sim.... no data...

I'm getting text, but no data otherwise it seems. Nothing in web browser, etc. I see a 4G logo. My network info says:
Operator Name: T-Mobile
Mobile Network Type: UMTS
Service state: In service
Is it the mobile network type that is wrong? How do I change it?
EDIT: Seems like maybe I have to set the APN? Are these correct? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236735
Yes, when switching carriers you will need to manually add the APN if the SIM card didn't automatically do it for you.
I don't have T-Mobile, but that looks good to me.

He is likely in a T-Mobile refarmed area so 1900 MHz UMTS is available, while your area doesn't have this.

The final answer is yes. The AT&T HTC One and the international/developer edition are exactly the same. Both support the frequencies used by T-Mobile. However, if you're not in a refarmed area listed here, then you won't be getting HSPA+. You'll get calls, text, MMS, but restricted to 2G as far as data goes until your towers are refarmed.
There are alot of threads on this topic in this forum as well as on the international/developer forums supporting this.
I had been getting speeds well over 20mbps on my Nexus 4... cracked the screen this weekend and connected an unlocked HTC One, from AT&T. I'm getting 5mbps now. I changed the settings as the OP did.
I am wondering if the speed reduction is due to the new phone, or because I recently switched from a "Unlimited" (with 5gigs of unlimited data) contract plan to a truly unlimited month-to-month "uncarrier" plan.
I made the change on Monday or so of last week, and within 24-48 hours was having poor/limited reception in my home and nearby, in my town, which I previously NEVER had issues in.
@OP- How did you go about getting yours unlocked? I'm trying to unlock mine to make it more valuable on craigslist and AT&T said that someone will get back to me by the 9th, which won't work for me.
