Maybe a weird query but I'd like to know this
Mine is 5 weeks old and miraculously I haven't dropped it yet and in last 5 years this is the only phone which I haven't dropped. But the scaring part is, how will it manage if I really do drop it? So if anyone of you has this experience please share with us.
Regards.
lols. in the last 5 years, this is the ONLY phone i've managed to drop! And i've dropped it TWICE!!! OMG i was/am pissed about it.
But luckily, my friend wants to buy it off me, and now I can pick up a brand new one. HAHAHA.
Hopefully, I will not ever drop the new one.
Once. It was in it's case......
three times. perfectly working, one of them it was a crash with my moto. I get injuried but my phone is perfect
I never drop my phone's. Maybe I dropped my last HTC Desire once in a year.. but it was not serious or anything. People need to be carefull with their stuff
so... so many time. At least 15, 10 onto pavment/gravel. The screen was almost flawless throughout all this but a few weeks ago I was drunk and put the phone in my key pocket. Few deep scratches now. Body has some marks but not bad for how many times its fallen, I think its weight helps.
No case/protector.
Very happy. All my phones get beat up, this seems to last better than most.
Just once. Yesterday. I lost my breath. Until I found out nothing was damaged
Haha. Dropped it twice 3 days ago. My heart skipped a beat or two when I heard it smash to the floor. Must've hurt the poor thing so bad haha.
I seriously had a dream where my phone fell apart. One of those dream you don't realise its a dream you know..
the first time i dropped it scuffed the plastic on the corner a bit, the second - two light scratches on the screen. pretty annoying after having had 3 iphones and managing to never damage them!
I've never dropped a mobile in 14 years and I'm not planning on starting with that one
I don't bother with screen protectors and the likes either, haven't managed to scratch a screen yet.

Knocked mine off a shelf onto a wooden floor yesterday. Dropped about 4 feet. Back popped off but...
After turning it over very slowly i was relieved to see the screen in tact.
Phew. No case either. May have to buy carpets for my house to protect the sii from further incidents! (or just be more careful)

I droped mine maybe 1x from ( Inside Car => fallen down to the ground ) nothing happen... ^^
Ok i have also a Zenus Withe Cover
Galaxy S1 also droped few time but same nothing happen...
Cheers
I dropped mine once when i was drunk and somehow the back cover and battery went flying of. Put it back together and turned back on all good.
But have no idea how that back cover came off? I have trouble taking it off my self.

I dropped the phone out of my pocket while running and the phone slid on the floor, back cover popped off and battery came out. No damage to the phone and it was working fine. I had the phone in my pocket next to my keys another day and figured it was alright since the screen is supposed to be protected by Gorilla glass. When I took my phone back out I had a few noticeable scratches in the glass. I thought that was impossible with the Gorilla glass and haven't put the phone back in the same pocket with my keys ever since.

Gorilla Glass is Scratch Resistant not Scratch Proof. So using it without a screen protector is a bad idea.
Anyway, I have feeling relieved now, after seeing so may of you had already dropped it but nothing happened. So I guess the build quality is good, reliable, that's another very good side of this beauty.
Regards.
PS- Keep them coming.
Dropped it twice, both times during exams. It helped quite a lot passing 'em tho

Only have it a few days and im ultra careful with it i nearly always keep it in my pocket when im out and about and when im at home i make sure to keep it out of the way from my 2 year old son who picks up anything and everything
so i just joined the team...
i dropped it just now,,,its been 5 mins(the late is due to my paralyzed condition when i dropped it) .... Its totally fine,,,working just perfect,,,looking as awesome as it was,,,
just when u look very closely at the screen(light coming from right direction),u ll notice a 2 mm long scratch on the screen which is like thinner than the thinnest hair,,,,it nothing ....but i am just too angry at myself
I've dropped it a few times with cases on and no scratches on anything, a few weeks ago I was in the basement at work and was using the flashlight, this time without a case and somehow slipped out of my hands and got a 1mm scratch to the plastic bezel on the side was extremely angry at myself!! But it's not bad you can't really notice it unless you look very closely.
Hey there guys!
I ordered the s3 but i saw quite a big number of users getting their screen broken!
Is the s3's screens problematic?do they break very easily or is it just some random cases?
Please respond!

Yes, it really is as **** as you are led to believe. Good luck, you'll need it.
Woah....didn't expect that...
My S1 was being constantly under bad use due to falls ect but nothing ever happened to it....
Should i fear my S3 for failure? What can i do?I already ordered a Zagg IvisibleShield and also a TPU case for my device...

Anything else to consider?
Sorry for the link,i'm from greece!
Google translate can make it up for you...
I dropped mine this morning very much like they did on Android Authority and it had an Incipio Sylicrilic case. The phone fell with the screen hitting a hard granite floor first and I wasn't worried because of the case. I spent a couple of weeks with the phone dangling around between change and keys and lots of things in my pockets and it didn't show a single scratch yet. If you use a kind of bumper that dissipates some energy you will be fine mate.
testamony......lol
now up to 7 drops....all waist height and above. the screen is scratchless and crackless
now the silver bumper.....thats a different story, it looks like a phone i have had for OVER a year.
oh yea, NO CASES or Screen Protectors are on my phone.
i have been VERY IMPRESSED with the glass
i have had the s1 2 and 3 (the s2 being the most durable). The s3 definitely needs a case in my opinion, unless of course you never drop your phone. It only takes one awkward bounce on a solid surface for it to shatter.
The weakest point on the S3 screen is the glass under the home button, it`s very thin and narrow, and can be broken just by pressing the home button area a little too hard.
John.
Thank you all guys!
You are a great help!!
So this TPU case i got should be okay?
I heard the TPU cases are very good energy absorbers...
Put it this way, the S3 uses Gorilla Glass 2 which is thinner yet supposedly more durable. In my ecoerience I have never had a Gorilla Glass display break on me, but that's certainly not to say one wouldn't, i've just been lucky.

Obviously when people drop their phone they gonna be pissed off and some are gonna make a lot of noise about how bad the phone is, but the fact is the first month of S1 and S2 were exactly the same so right now it's hard to tell if it's got really bad glass or just really pissed off customers.

If you can... please... please .... PLEASE cancel that order. That thing SUCKS. Go for the cheapy ebay stuff, it's much better.
The Zagg invisible crap makes your screen bubbly and look horrible, and the texture of it is even worse... and by bubbly and horrible, I mean if you look under the light your screen looks like a goddamn mountain range.

One fall from desk height, 2 feet on something hard, that's all it took for me. I had an HTC 2 years. That would not have broken. The thing is extremely easy to break! Incredibly easy, in fact.
1 drop from waist height was all it took to kill my s3, small crack in the bottom left hand corner and screen wont even turn on, and no touch input.
This was really disappointing for me, my s1 and s2 have both been through a million times more. It's one of the reasons i love samsung phones.
They don't break. I was really disappointed by the s3. I'm back to abusing my s2 now with a really pretty brick on my desk.
I was going to get the note II but considering its basically a larger s3 I'm guessing the durability will be just as poor

I agree. Today i droped my phone for the first time it felt from a chair. My heart stopped for 1 second it felt right on the corner, the weakest spot of it. Fortunaly nothing happened. I use a silicon case but don t trust it that much.
I already ordered my urban armor case just to be sure.

Had my phone for 5 days, while shopping for a case, dropped it 1 foot onto floor, shattered the glass to pieces. It's off to Samsung for repairs, not sure how much $$$ it's gonna cost to repair, and also I have now lost my warranty due to breaking the glass, so hopefully the phone doesn't crap out in the next 3 years of my contract. Oh and btw, I had an S1 with a cheapy case, dropped many times, no cracks whatsoever, so I truly believe the glass is much weaker. My suggestion would be to get a case, but which one is going to protect it, I am very concerned now.

Here in UK, a repair using authorised parts by an authorised repairer will not invalidate your warranty.

It's only been a month since I bought my S3. I have 5-6 very tiny scratches on my screen which are easily visible in bright light. :crying:
It's like a group of scratches at the bottom center of my screen. I am still trying to figure out how I got them. I can assure you that I am not responsible for these scratches. :crying:
I have treated my phone with respect and yet it has developed these scratches. I have never dropped my phone. I have never kept it face-down on any surface.
The funny part is that the back cover on the Samsung Galaxy S3 sucks as well. Its got tiny scratches all over even though I have never ever kept the phone on any surface without keeping a micro-fiber cloth under the phone!
The only possible explanation for the scratches can be dust. Can I claim warranty on the phone since the screen is supposed to be scratch resistant?
I am super sad now

I am not allergic to either. The problem is that I ordered the TRIDEA ALIKE case on 8th June from ebay but there were some manufacturing problems and the case delivery got delayed. It should be here in a weeks time. There are no decent screen protectors available in the local market. The ones that are available on ebay will take 2 weeks to be delivered to my country. With the case still not delivered, I am still contemplating about ordering a screen protector online or waiting for it to hit the stores.

No one in their right senses would think of not putting a screen protector on a costly phone. Like I said, I was waiting for some screen protectors to hit the local markets since I already had a bad experience with shopping for a case online. I ordered it a month back and it's still not here.
I heard that the Galaxy s3 comes with an additional coating that repels oil. Could it be possible that I have only scratched this coating and not the actual glass. If yes, how can I tell the difference?

@phoenix
What makes you think I am stupid? I have had 2 phones with gorilla glass before I got my s3 and none of them got a single scratch on them ever. I started using a screen protector when my phones were a couple of months old since its human nature to not care much about old things.
I was waiting for a good screen protector to be available in the local stores because I only just got the phone and thought It was okay to wait for sometime before I get a screen protector. I had no idea the S3 screen was going to be this delicate.

I can barely see the scratch on the SGS3, it's ca. 3mm long, upper right of screen. And as said, since it was my fault for taking it to a beach, that's even less reason to beat myself up about it.
Screenguards seem to be the way forward for you. I just don't care enough - phone's for using, and I can't be bothered with the hassle of "babysitting" it instead of using it.

In fairness, mine hasn't lasted the last 3 days on the beach.. It was hidden in my bag but sand gets everywhere. A few small scratches, but so be it my phone is staying naked.
I've done quite a few of these videos. I'm no professional. Read the directions and use common sense. I have never had issues.
After I began using glass screen protectors, I have mixed feelings about ZAGG products. There are pros and cons to each. Feel free to comment and/or ask questions.
One thing, I am sure of is that an unprotected phone will get scratched if you place it in a pocket with keys or change. Even the sapphire on my dad's old Rolex is capable of being scratched.
EDIT: Added some stuff about the S pen and the marks it leaves behind.
Does the S-Pen have any issues working through the Invisible Shield? I read some Amazon reviews for the Note 2's version and there were complaints about that.

I had one on my Note 2 and it would leave ugly lines in it and it just wasn't smooth to use. We just got one here at my Job at Radioshack that is the HD Zagg and it's supposed to be better so I'm going to try that one for $10. If it doesn't feel good I'll probably just go with the Spigen Glass shield.
I have the HD Zagg screen protector and I am very satisfied with it
after getting my note 3 on Saturday... I bought the Zagg.. and the guy at BB installed it for me...

Dont know what it fell on (lego, army men, etc... whatever the kids left out) but now I have a dent in the upper left corner...
I had to go to Zagg and register as it is a lifetime warranty...all i can say right now is I am not impressed so not sure if $26 was worth it for this thing since at day 1 it has a ding...

Added an additional video to the original post. It's definitely time for a glass screen protector. Again, if you are prone to dropping the phone, the glass is more susceptible to damage.
Nooooo!!!!
I have only had my phone for 2 weeks and I was sitting outside of Starbucks with my phone on my lap, and this yellow jacket bee kept flying around me. So I stood up to get away from it, while forgetting my phone was on my lap. CRASH! My V30 without a case falls off my lap about 20 inches down onto the cement.
It caused a small spider web crack in the corner of the back glass. One of then cracks extends to the camera lens area. On thr bright side the screen is fine and the camera lens is fine with no cracks. Plus its only mostly the corner thats cracked on the back. But still, it really really sucks since I just got this phone.
I know some of you are thinking I was stupid for not having a case. Maybe so, but keep in mind I pretty much never had cases on my 6P or my S7 Edge. I only dropped my 6P once real bad on a hard surface (fell out of pants with a smaller pocket while sitting) which only left a scuff on the edge with the display fine, and never once dropped my S7 on a hard surface in over a year with it. So I have always been super careful with my phones. Never dropping my phone in years that was a result of my clumsiness or carless.
I guess its just a matter of time though no matter how careful you are handling your phone. Its bound to fall somehow when its not your fault. Like sliding off a slippery surface, falling out of a small pocket, or similar. Anyways I called a local phone repair shop and the good news is the back glass is only $70-$75.
I don't think I am going to get it done just yet since the display is fine, camera lens is fine, and its only the corner of the back. But I probably will eventually before I resell the phone in 1-2 years. Anyways kind of disappointed a military certified phone cracked for such short fall. This is why I prefer metal backed phones so much more. Anyways hopefully this info of how easy it cracks and the cost to replace the back out there being pretty cheap helps some others out there.
*Puts case back on my V30*
Yeah, I watched a couple of videos on what happens to GG 4 & 5 with drop tests and decided mine would stay in a case. Added bonus of keeping finger prints off of the actual phone back and just on a plastic case.
I have several cases I've bought to put on my LG V30 when I actually buy the phone. You can buy very good cases for even a couple of dollars on ebay. I started the LG V30 cases thread, because most people don't know that.
You can even buy clear cases if you still want to show off the phone.

At least you know it can be repaired easily.
If the glass is still smooth, you can always put a skin over it.
This is one concern causing me pause in my purchase. Why there can't be a nice carbon fiber replacement back for this phone, I don't know. Motorola had a good idea going with the "design your own phone" during the Droid Turbo / Turbo 2 days, they just gave up on it too early.

That's the beauty of carbon fiber composites. The resin it's molded in is waterproof, gluing is about the only way to attach it to anything, it can be built up as thick as needed to create a reliable sealing edge or stiffness to the back. And it's radio transparent, so no issue with wireless charging. It can be textured, to make it more grippy.
The ccf aesthetic isn't for everyone, I get that, but it would be great as an option, and would be completely workable.
That is a bummer that it cracked. I am super impressed by the strength of this device though, my embarrassing story about it. Bought a new TV for my living room, decided I needed to take my old TV down to the basement and thought I could wrangle the 60" TV by myself, took two steps down and slipped, fell super hard all the way down the stairs with my phone in my back pocket. Huge bruises on my back, butt, arm and legs, the phone I was positive was a goner. Took it out of the case and to my amazement not a scratch and the glass looks perfect, however there is a size-able dent on one side of the phone and it is pushing the screen out. Everything works perfect and like I said, it did not crack at all, I am not a small guy, between me and the TV it took a 300 lb hit on the edge of a step and then several more hits down the stairs.
Of course I went to T-Mobile and they laughed and said "We can't take a bent phone back" luckily I am still in the 14 days grace period and will be adding insurance so I can get a replacement. It works, but is a little annoying to use this way. And to end the story on a high note, I did save the TV, did not let go of it!

A quick and healthy recovery!
My wife had dropped her v30 TWICE already in a week... Both times it luckily hit a corner and no glass cracked or scratched. Just a scuff on the metal of each bottom corner. So damn lucky with that so far... her case finally showed up the day after the second drop.

Whyyyy couldn't have mine done that?!
Actually I think the sides of this phone are super reinforced. Way more than more glass phones. I think mine just fell at the absolute worst angle that hit it just right. Just thankfully it was not the display!

Thanks! I also found the glass back is on Ebay for only about $18 and comes with the little tool to replace it. So I might just do that myself. I watched a video of how to take the back off.
I only have 2 worries if I do it myself.
1.) Making sure the new glass back seals on tight enough still be at least mostly water proof and
2.) Removing the finger print sensor from the old back to the new back. The video I watched doesnt show how to remove the finger print sensor. But once I find a video on someone removing and reattaching the finger print sensor, then I will pull the trigger for the $18 glass back.
So much for military certified durability  :crying:
Also you'll lose the ip68 rating by replacing that yourself most lowly just a heads up. Watch the video of Jerry rig everything. When he made a clear v30. Really good on how to open phone
Happened to one of the phones on my account. Fell about 3 feet on a wood floor and the back has a hairline crack. I'll skin it, put it in a case and be done with it.

That's quite a story! That should be in a V30 durability ad. Opening shot of the big dent and bulged screen with the phone speaking in "android voice" saying, "yeah, I took quite a beating, but you should see the other guy!" Then a fade in shot of you looking all sheepish and bruised from head to toe with a final fade out slow-mo reenactment of the fateful tussle.
