[Q] Volumes - how do they work (long explanation)? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
So, there's 6 volumes available (ignoring DTMF) in Android, here's what I think each do so far:-
1. Alarm Volume (A)
USAGE - Alarms, I think
OUTPUTS - Speaker (always) and headphones (if connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 7
2. In-Call Volume (C)
USAGE - Used for phone conversations
OUTPUTS - Headphones (if connected) or earpiece (if no headphones connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 5
3. Media Volume (M)
USAGE - Used for most stuff (game sounds, music)
OUTPUTS - Headphones (if connected) or speaker (if no headphones connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 15
4. Notification Volume (N)
USAGE - Used for SMS ring tones (AFAICS)
OUTPUTS - Speaker (always) and headphones (if connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 7
5. Ringer Volume (R)
USAGE - Ring-tone when call is incoming
OUTPUTS - Speaker (always) and headphones (if connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 7
6. System Volume (S)
USAGE - Used for system sounds (key press etc.)
OUTPUTS - Headphones (if connected) or speaker (if no headphones connected)
VOLUME RANGE - 0 to 7
Alarm, Ringer, and Notification are obviously similar in behaviour, but having them as separate volumes makes sense. More importantly none can be used in the situation where headphones are plugged in AND privacy is needed (ie. play a sound through headphones but not through speaker).
System Volume seems ideal for that purpose, but for some reason even at volume 7 its still incredibly soft through the headphones. In general it seems much softer than every other available volume.
Media Volume is mixed (music played sounds at the same time as speech from another app, for example). This is great, but causes a problem when combined with the odd-one-out - In-Call Volume...
In-Call Volume seems to use Media Volume's stream, but augmenting it. The side effect if that if this stream is used, any currently playing media bursts your ear-drums because it gets amplified as well.
Is there a way to change how these volumes interact? I'm especially trying to divorce in-call volume from media volume, or amplify system volume by at least 20 dB.....

[Q] Media volume auto drops when headset plugged in
I notice when I set the media volume max and plug in headphones to listen to music, it will automatically drop the media volume down. It does it all the time even though i set the media volume at max. Once I plug a headset into the 3.5mm jack the media volume just drops back to its default values. How do I make it stop?
Volume control
Does anyone know of an app that allows me to set volume for head and bluetooth at different default levels? For example on the iphone when I plug in my headphone it automatically decreases the volume and when my bluetooth is connected the max level is defaulted.
[Q] Bluetooth & Notifications!
When I've connected my Bluetooth headset (MW600), my notification volumes are lowered automatically by the system. I found the reason that I don't listen to my music at full volume. Keeping my music volume lower, is it possible to keep my notification tone's volume at max? (My setting is max already and if I disconnect, I have no issues).

Click to collapse Same happens to me when I connect to my car: volume goes down to approx. 70% and yields the volume control to the car. Just use your headset volume keys and forget about the phone.

I used this same Bluetooth with them!
[Q] Bluetooth Audio Volume
Is there a way to increase the volume on bt-headsets? if i set the volume on the headset to 100% and the volume on the watch to 100% it is still not really loud.
Separate Bluetooth and system volume.
I know everyone wanted bluetooth headphones to control system volume. But I'd rather have them separate. I found keeping the system volume at max and lower my headphones volume increases the battery by hours. Is there an app or mod that I can control the two volume level separately?
