After my pain-in-the-arse experience of trying to get Dolphin Browser HD 7 installed on my Streak this morning, I thought I would share my experience and solution for those who may have similar problems.
Background:
Put simply, Dolphin HD 7 is exclusive to getjar at the moment. Browsing to the GetJar site using dolphin 6.x presents you with the desktop version of the site even when UAString is set to Android in settings. In this fashion, clicking "download" on the Dolphin page presents a "select your device" window. Entering "Dell Streak" presents the Streak as a device to select. Selecting the picture, however, does absolutely nothing no matter how many times you tap it!
Using the desktop site on a desktop browser gives the same window, but this time it "works" but says to browse to m.GetJar.com on mobile browser and select "quick download" at the bottom. Even the stock android browser redirects to either the desktop version or Dolphin browser (if Dolphin is set to default)
Solution:
So, here's how I finally got it to work (this guide assumes that you do NOT already have the GetJar "application" installed):
1) Go to settings => Applications => Manage Applications and make sure that there are no defaults for browser applications
2) open app drawer and open Browser (stock Android browser)
3) in the address bar enter about:debug and press "go"
4) press Menu key => More => Settings
5) scroll down to UAString and select Froyo-N1
6) in the address bar enter m.GetJar.com (if at any time it asks for a browser choice, always select stock browser unless otherwise mentioned)
7) at bottom of page select "quick download" (this link will not be there if UAString is set to "Android")
8) enter 40963 and press "download" (or replace with the quick download code of your desired app if different)
9) if you're lucky it should send you to the Dolphin HD 7 ptoduct page. Press "Dowload" and it should prompt you to download and sideload the GetJar APK. Do this.
10) Ignore the GetJar "application" in the app tray, it's just a web portal that ALSO defaults to the desktop version and so cannot download anything on Gingerstreak 2.4!
11) Go back to stock Browser (if you have not closed it, you UAString should still be Froyo-N1, if not, repeat steps 3, 4 and 5). Repeat steps 6, 7 and 8
12) this time when you tap "download", it should give you the option to open the link in "Browser" or "GetJar". Select GetJar
13) Hopefully, fingers crossed, it will now download and install the application!
Obviously, the standard "your experience may vary" applies, but that was the only way I could get it to work on my Streak with Gingerstreak 2.4 this morning...
If anyone knows of an easier way to do this, please do say!
thanks for the tip,..but what i do is more simple,..download Dolphine7, put it in sdcard, and tap it to install from root explorer, after i uninstall dolphine6.
but atleast i know now how to get Getjar,..thanks.
edit : oh btw,..i use GS 2.4 too.

Well that's my confusion, really. How did you download Dolphin 7 when it's currently exclusive to GetJar?
idk for sure,...just followed a link that was provided in my email spam box (sorry dolphine).

Dolphin Browser HD 7 is also on the Android Market. I just downloaded it a few minutes ago. Ver. 7.0.2 to be exact.

I'm trying out Opera Mobile to replace Dolphin.
How do you set the default Homepage so that Opera always opens up to my choice of Homepage instead of the Opera default?
I've tried setting Home Page, and also Home URL in opera:config. Neither seemed to work (and I did save and restart).
Any clues?
I'm having trouble with this also.

We're not asking how to make Opera your default browser. We're asking how do you set the homepage in Opera?
There's a box in about:config that says something like "Default Homepage" where you can enter a web address, but it doesn't actually do anything. The browser still starts at Speed Dial.

It worked for me: typed "opera:config" in URL address bar. Scolled down to User Prefs/Home URL and typed in igoogle homepage, clicked on Save, exited browser, clicked on Advanced Task Killer and killed running tasks, clicked on Opera Mobile and at first it will show the opera start page but quickly darkens and igoogle opens right up.
ASUS Transformer running Honeycomb 3.1 rooted.
Tried it...didn't work for me...

I followed your direction exactly...but when I re-opened Opera Mobile after using ATK to shut it down, it opened back on the opera:config page. I didn't even get it to open to the normal Opera start page. Its not a huge deal to use that, I would just prefer to use my iGoogle page as a home page.
Anyway, any suggestions? I am also using an Asus Transformer. However, I am running HoneyComb 3.2 and it is not rooter.

I tried rebooting my Transformer. When I opened Opera Mobile, it opened to the normal Opera start page and then went dark like you mentioned. However, it didn't go to iGoogle, it went back to the opera:config page. Any ideas?
Open facebook.com with Dolphin browser HD. It starts out in mobile. There are three menus on the top. Choose More. At the bottom it says Desktop site. Click on that. Ta da! Full blown Facebook on the HTC Flyer.
If everybody already knew this: sorry but I've seen this annoy multiple people on various forums so thought I would share.
Does it work for the default browser?

This is ok. But lame that i have to do it everytime and also doesn't stay in desktop mode for all things. Constantly it switches back to mobile version. I want a permanent fix to always be in desktop.....
Opera Mobile
I use Opera Mobile and used this thread (See post #3) and it always does the full site.
I use Dolphin Browser HD and set as desktop in the setting. I can even play RC facebook game in it.

It works very easily !!!!
Just open the browser > Menu > More > Settings > MOBILE VIEW `must be ticked`
While this is ticked , goto facebook site and Press MORE on the Facebook Page, then goto DESKTOP VIEW
That`s it

Lame. I don't wanna have to do this everytime. I'll try the opera browser. Sucks, cuz i like the default browser so far.
You can try firefox browser and download one of its addon called phony. it allows users to change the user-agent that is sent out. once installed you can go into preferences and look for user agent and change it to desktop firefox/microsoft IE and WALA! facebook displays as if you are surfing on a desktop.
And this setting is saved, so you need not change it everytime.
Does the chat function work when browsing to the facebook desktop site? That was one of the things I liked about the android app was that they had added the ability to chat.
Desktop Toggles plugin for Dolphin HD
There is a Dolphin HD plugin which toggles between mobile and desktop. Find it in the android market. I leave mine set to desktop and it seems to start in that mode everytime I fire up the browser.
Also like the morning coffee plugin.
In Dolphin HD, menu -> more -> settings -> Dolphin Settings -> User Agent -> Desktop
Then no matter what site you open, it will always open the desktop version of any website you visit, and you don't have to repeat the process every time, it stays the same even after you exit Dolphin HD.
Greetings:
My iPhone 4 load yahoo web page in full. When I switch to SGS2, it always default to mobile web page. Is there a way to correct this? I google and look through the phone browser menu but can't find anything. I turn off "open page in overview" and set my home page to Yahoo! to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not in the stock browser without rooting and moding it.
Try dolphin HD or opera mobile, they don't have the gpu acceleration but they are still damn fast and let you set mobile view on or off.

Thank you all for your help.
I install Dolphin HD. I am able to load full web page now.
For whatever reason every browser I try reloads tabs when I leave the browser. It's REALLY annoying - I'm stuck on edge most of the time, and finding out that my tabs suddenly reload just because I switched to twitter for a second.
I tried to pretty much disable the LMK, and it still did this...
I tried Chrome, Browser Plus, stock ICS browser, Dolphin and Opera (which does this slightly less often) Last time I had this problem was on my old tablet with only 256 MB of RAM. (Which still did this less often than the Note on ICS)
Every time this happened, I had at least 120 MB of ram free. Seriously, the note has a full gigabyte of ram, and yet this happens.
This doesn't happen to me on GB.
Is there anything I can do to make browsing normal again?
Like, exclude a browser from getting killed, or something?
I'm using a Galaxy Note..
Help please?
I tried all that I could, but was still unable to solve this problem.
I now had to downgrade to Gingerbread because of this issue, it is REALLY annoying.
I just want to multi task on my device...
I actually had tabs reload while I was still in the browser! Is there ANYTHING that can be done?
Still have this issue. Tried every damn browser I could, every ICS ROM I could find, but it still does this. Please help.
Maybe try Opera Mini (not opera mobile)?

Opera Mini does not really fit my needs...
And reloading tabs will still be slower than keeping them in memory, even with Opera.
Thanks for replying, though.
I wish someone who could help would reply to this thread. I'm tired of having to reload tabs almost every time too.

Hi all,
just adding my 2cents, I've been facing similar issue , as a lot of us, tried almost all available browsers on the google play
I'm finally using OverSkreen (floating browser) which seems able to stay on memory by registering itself in the notification area ...
Okay, it's a paid apps
Just want to let you know that I'm not advertising it, I do not know the dev and am not involved in anyway in the development
Just sharing my findings
I'm still digging that issue and landed here while searching the web ....
Hope this helps some
thanks for that, it's nice!
though i'd really love to use chrome, because of syncing and all.
Some solution here???
Try this:
1. Download the Root Explorer apk file from the link and install itit on the device.
2. Open Root Explorer and provide the root permissions.
Now tap on “Mount R/W” which can be seen on top of the screen.
Scroll down and open the “data”*directory.
Once in the /data directory, press menu key and select “New File”.
Enter the name of the file as local.prop.Now long press on local.prop and select the “Open With” option.
Now select text editor.
The app’s process name should be known to the user. For e.g. if the user wants to lock the Contacts app in memory, type “sys.keep_app_1=com.android.contacts”. “com.android.contacts” is the process of the Contacts app.
Similarly other apps can be locked in the memory in the following manner. Now press menu key and select Save and exit.
Now system will show a message saying ‘Old local.prop backed up as local.prop.bak’. And you are done.. Reboot and enjoy.
Get the app process name with apk info for exampel.

or use JKays framework to register apps as service! read the faq for whitelistening apps!! its great. works for me with opera. it is not reloading the pages anymore and hopefully dont cancel the downloads!

Hi, thanks for sharing your findings... Tried myself to use Xposed and app settings to make the browser stay in memory
Works really great
Only drawback is that it significantly slows down the phone so stopped that technic
Will try yours, thanks again
1. When opening applications from the notification window-shade, they aren't counted as open by the system and hence don't appear in the multi-tasking menu. For example, I'll open GMail from the window-shade go to my first email, click a link in that email taking me to the browser - then when I'm done in the browser if I hit the multi-tasking menu to go back to GMail it's not there. I have to go home, and then launch GMail from it's icon.
2. Different browsers can't be used on a case-by-case basis, unless you don't have one set as default - in which case the system asks you EVERY time which browser you want to launch. The problem is that if I set a default browser (I am mainly using Chrome) then I'm screwed when I come to a page with Flash content (more often than I would like). The only thing I can do then is the cumbersome copying the page address, going home, launching the relevant browser that can display Flash, and then pasting the address in.
It would be nice if I could set Chrome as default but then when I hit a link which takes me to a webpage with Flash content, I'd like to go back a page then perhaps long-press the link and get offered each browser option then (and only then).
Any ideas on how to solve these issues (aside from just using a different browser for no 2?)
#2 - Install "flashify" from the Play store. When you are on a page that requires flash, hit your share button and the typical list of services will come up. Choose flashify and then it will ask which flash enabled browser. It will immediately open that page in the new browser.
