[Q] Need Help Restoring Data on Serendipity Rom - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I have previously restored data, most specifically Sms logs, when going from Cognition to Unnamed. But when going from unnamed to serendipity, I can't get Backup pro, Titanium Backup, or Appextractor to restore my sms logs. It's pretty frustrating. I can get most of the apps and system data to come back, but not SMS. If anyone can recommend a method or program I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

SMS Backup and Restore by Ritesh Sahu
In general, you should not restore system data when changing ROMs - it will almost always break.

Thanks
Thanks Entropy, I appreciate the response. Ended up using that program, which I was familiar with but had problems with it in the past. I found a good combo to be Super Backup and SMS Backup and Restore. Super backup handles the contacts and call logs great, Backup and restore works great for SMS, as long as you don't have too many messages .
I try to avoid restoring system data, accept for certain programs.

I use Call Logs Backup and Restore (same guy as SMS Backup/Restore) for my call logs, and for contacts I just keep everything synced to Google.

[Q] Titanium Backup, Proper Restore Method?

I have looked around and still haven't found a concrete answer to this.
What is the best way to backup and restore with Titanium Backup?
Usually, before i flash new ROMs, I will delete all backups, and then rebackup everything.
Then when I actually flash to a new one, I will restore "all missing apps + data"
Is this the best way to do things?
The reason I ask is because of some glitches I have ran into with some ROMs, specifically Axura.
I love the ROM, but whenever i restore after flashing it, the lockscreen will stay on after receiving a text message, until i turn it off manually. This is very bad for the battery if i go for a while not noticing a msg.
Any ideas?
After so many flashes its good to flash to back stock through odin. You also need to make sure to check repartition box in odin to make sure there are no skeletons in your closet. Also when restoring apps and data, only do data when going from a 2.1 rom to 2.1. Ive reaf people having problems reinstalling data from 2.1 to 2.2.
Fear the beard...
Another thing I do now that im flashing strictly 2.2 is only restore missing apps and essential system data such as email, accounts and sync settings, wifi settings, and messaging if I want to preserve my texts. Others that might be handy are phone settings and wallpaper settings this last will restore wallpaper and fonts and some other user settings. I have contacts set to sync with gmail. Im sure there's one or two I've forgotten but you get the gist of it.

I ONLY backup & user apps+data. then I use mybackup pro to back up + restore texts, call logs, bookmarks, system settings. Haven't run into any issues doing this.

Disturkis4u,
when you do this
are you flashing from 2.1 to 2.2
or
2.1 to 2.1 or 2.2 to 2.2?
I've done it for both.

i backup user apps and data before every flash. sometimes i batch delete previous backups if there are apps i no longer want/need just to clean things up so i can just run the install user apps+data without going through the list and deselecting ones i no longer want. i've also backed up accounts, wifi access points, and a couple other of the green options in system data. i've never had a problem after restoring.
Does Titanium backup restore game saves or any progress you made?

best app for call history & sms/mms?

currently on BAMF Remix v1.8
i did search the forum and can't seem to find an answer.
are there not files/directories which contain the "call history", "sms", and "mms" which can be easily copy/pasted for backups?
in the alternative, anyone using an app or other approach which effectively backs-up call history, sms, and mms?
Titanium Backup does it.
Edit: I wouldn't restore data if you're coming from froyo to GB or GB to froyo.
titanium backup? can you explain how to accomplish this? thanks
After the backup was done.
Access TB, select "backup/restore" tab.
scroll to "contacts/calls...ctsStorage"... then restore
scroll to "[SMS/MMS/APN]" then restore
scroll to "[SMS/MMS PREFS..." then restore
Hopefully everything works out fine.
titanium backup pro well worth the money!
I use Backup to GMail
MyBackup Pro will do it between roms(2.2>2.3,2.3>2.2) and even phones(DX>Tbolt).
DAS BAMF 1.7 to BAMF GingerStripped v2.1

ok so i am attempting to backup/restore my call history. first i did my perfunctory nandroid back-up prior to flashing new ROM. Then backed-up all user and system files and data with Ti BU.
now attemtpted to restore "contacts/calls...ctsStorage". first, data only. result - no phone history apparently restored. second, attempted to restore app and data. result -no phone history apparently restored.
any thoughts?

Question about restoring call logs

Made a full backup with TB after moving to Exynos 7.2 and now I'd like to restore just my Call log from my stock rom. Tried restoring "[CONTACTS/CALLS] Contacts Storage" but that wasn't it. Help??
AFAIK, Titanium won't restore your call log. You'll need another app to do that, like this...

confused about backing up

ok iv searched about and read the threads that popped up under where i typed the title.
when i got my S2 the first thing i did was flash the litening rom, iv been using it for a couple of months got loads of apps, texts, numbers and emails on there.
now on my old htc i had an app which did a backup of all my contacts texts emails etc called pim backup, worked ok on that phone, maybe a bit slow and crap but hey did the job.
right i fancy trying out a new rom, iv read that there are programs etc for backing up my rom incase of a problem, and programs to back up apps etc so i dont need to re download, whats gonna happen to my texts and emails?
any help or even a shove in the direction of a guide that i cant find will be appreciated
You do a full backup of your ROM (including personal stuff) with ClockWorkMod-recovery.
For single apps I recommend titanium backup. Note that your messages and such may not be compatible to other roms. For example, you cannot restore the messages from a TW-ROM into MIUI.

ok well im currently running a backup on clockworkmod so this will do all my texts emails etc etc so when the new rom is installed i do the same but with restore??
and ill then be on a new rom, but with everything still on my phone (apart from any apps) which i restore thru titanium.
and i shall go look for this titanium backup right now.
thankyou very much
ooohh to add, is this clockworkmod backup, also backing up all my media files, like pictures, music, videos??

No because teh restore restore teh whole rom not just yoru SMS.
You dont need to backup your contacts etc as they are synced with yoru google acount.
If you want to backup/restore SMS you can use a SMS Backup & Restore
If you want to backup/restore your apps/app data you can use Titanium Backup.
When you install a new ROM your data (photos, ...) won't be touched.
ClockWorkMod will restore the entire ROM.
You have to be careful when restoring SMS'. If your ROM uses another app for messages, it won't be compatible.

Transferring call logs from cm7 to cm9?

Anyone had any luck transferring call logs from cm7 to cm9? I tried mybackup root and titanium backup but every time i do that contacts crashes when i start it.
Seems like call log backup and restore works, you just have to restore them, delete them and restore them again with the app, strange but it works.
i made the mistake of relying on lookout to back up my call logs. found out the hard way i couldn't restore
