Trying to do a backup before installing a ROM and this is as far as I get. Have reinstall clockworkmod but no good. Any ideas?
Signature File Error - Clockwork Mod
Similar. Got my Samsung Galaxy SII, Sprint, rooted, but having trouble with flashing Clockwork Mod. Recovery 3e requires signature verification for flashing external files, so it's puking when I try to flash Clockwork Mod. Throws error can't read file signature. This must be coming up a bit: how do I bypass this requirement or otherwise get a full Recovery going so I can start flashing ROMs? Was up until 5 am on this, back at it...

However it did something to my screen, it works but colour balance isn't right
Best method:
1. Flash the Codeworkx kernel.
2. Power off the phone.
3. Start CWM recovery.
4. Select Backup.
5. Done.
Thanks for help but this did not work. Lost wi-fi and root as well flashing this, so could not Reboot into Recovery. Went back to ZedoMax kernel. Still looking for how to get past file signature issue. Yes, I know I'm a noob but I do not wanna give up. Any thoughts super-welcome.

Problem was my kernel says only 2.6.35.7, so not able to select which of the many kernels might be correct. One very interesting development is that now when I try to flash ClockworkMod Recovery, it lists my exact phone, Sprint Epic 4G Touch. But still barfs when I try to unpack those files due to file signature issue. I really feel stuck.

I have literally read all the threads here about installing custom roms...
however my phone doesn't seem to work..
I have Galaxy S Vibrant.

I got help from this 'noob guide' but still I have different problem.
I have froyo. (2.2) and my phone is rooted. (one click root)
I installed ROM Manager (free) and flashed it. and then when i reboot into recovery, and click 'reinstall packages' I get the following notifications:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
What's the problem with my method?
On the forums somewhere there's some tutorial on how to get arround that but for me its easier to downgrade to stock 2.1 using Odin and then root and get clockwork and you wont have that problem
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
you have a 3e recovery since you upgraded to 2.2 You need to either modify it by following the thread in the development section or....
odin back to 2.1, let it boot, root it.
install rom manager, install CWM recovery.
reboot into CWM recovery, you'll probably have to reinstall packages.
Flash w/e custom rom you want. Just be mindful of voodoo and whatnot.
clicky thanks if it helped.

You might need this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737
Hi,
Try this one:
1. Download one of stock kernel from this thread which is required by your ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
2. Put it in internal SDCard and change name to update.zip
3. Flash latest CWM through ROM Manager
4. Reboot into recovery via ROM manager
5. Choose 'Reinstall packages' when rebooting to recovery. You may need to do it twice.
6. After successfully reboot into recovery, you can flash your ROM now as usual. Put your ROM file zip in internal SDcard, then you can 'choose zip from sdcard'.
Good luck.
IN the noob guide I state you need the 3e modified recovery, stock 3e will not allow you to install CWR.
From the guide:
If you have issues flashing Clockwork Recovery's update.zip, it is because the new stock recovery (3E). Please see this thread.

Like others said, you have a lot of choices.
1 -use the modified 3e
2 -odin to stock JFD and use the update.zip to root, RM, CWR, flash rom of choice
3 -odin using the ALT METHOD in the noob guide, flash rom of choice
I personally followed this tutorial and it worked a treat:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925400
Here is the video, sorry for the bad quality. If you couldn't understand, basically I looked up how to get clockwork mod recovery, as my recovery is the original one that does not allow you install custom roms.
So in ROM manager I choose the vibrant as my phone for Clockwork Mod, and it says it was successful, so I do Boot into recovery.
The thread then said to choose install packages, so I did that, and it loads like 1/5 of the bar and an error message is displayed. There error reads:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I dont know what it wrong, my old vibrant worked fine when I did this and I had a custom ROM i enjoyed until I dropped my phone and phone it. They just sent me this knew one since it was insured, and I want to get a custom ROM on this vibrant too.
Thanks everyone, XDA is the best!

Im VERY sorry about the quality. Thats why i also typed out my problem.
Froyo 3e recovery won't allow you to flash anything.
-Use Odin to flash back to stock JFD Eclair..then reinstall packages x2
-Use Odin to flash Voodoo + Stock kernel--then flash ROM
-Try modified 3e recovery thingy (doesn't work for me)
Delete update.zip and try again from within rom manager

a failed signature veriication either means the file is corrupt, downlod and copy again or thats not meant to be applied thru recovery.
you can verify corrupted downloads by opening on desktop. the desktop archiver will report corrupted zips on opening. any.

If you continue to get the error. I would suggest ODIN and re-root. I myself just flashed back to stock to test another issue and ran into having to repeatedly flash CwM before i could get out of Blue recovery thats why i posted that link. Although my problem never produced an error like the OP i just couldnt get out of Blue recovery i almost got worried haha
So I recently bought an unlocked international version of the Samsung Galaxy S2, and so far I freaking love this phone. It's staying connected to wifi networks just fine, so I'm glad I haven't experienced that issue like many others have (-keeps fingers crossed-). Also no yellow tint so far.
I am coming to this phone from a Samsung Captivate, and I'm loving the FUNCTIONAL GPS, the front-facing camera, and everything else this phone has that the original Galaxy S should have had. However, I need a bit of help on the development side of things, because I want to flash Cognition as soon as I can.
I'm not a complete noob, but I apologize if I'm asking anything that's already been answered, so please, no "L2USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION N00B, LOLZ" trolling on here.
I followed instructions for rooting the phone just fine, and I flashed ROM's (Darky, Serendipity, Cognition, Phoenix Unleashed, CM7) plenty on my Captivate, so I understand how Odin, download mode, etc. all works.
I've got the phone rooted, downloaded the Cognition 1.6 ROM and currently trying to flash it through ROM Manager. Signature verification failed when I'm in recovery mode. I'm just wondering if there's some sort of step like on the original SGS where I have to flash to stock with Odin, then flash the ROM, etc. It's currently on KE7 firmware.
One more thing, I just realized I don't really know how to get into recovery mode on this phone either. I know Download Mode is Home + Power + Volume Down, what's recovery? Thanks in advance!
Recovery Mode is Home + Power + Volume UP .
ROM manager
Be better to follow the instructions as given for that rom .
Installation Instructions:
I highly recommend flashing the full rom! (updates can be unpredictable)
(If you have problems with the update version, flash the full rom instead)
BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!
Download the rom zip from below (don't rename it!)
Put the downloaded zip file on your internal sdcard
Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery
(don't do this from rom manager, it won't work)
Select Install zip from sdcard
Select Browse for zip on sdcard
Select the zip file you put on your sdcard above

I just love this community!
Yes, I did follow the ROM's instructions. As I did when I was on the SGS. It's giving me "File verification signature failed!" message in recovery. That's my problem, not figuring out how to do the whole process.
Is it because it's Android Recovery 3e instead of 2e, like the problem with Froyo on the first Galaxy S? If so, how would I revert back to 2e recovery if it was 3e stock to begin with?

Yes but that's just my problem, rebooting into ClockworkMod Recovery. It's still giving me the stock 3e Android recovery, which has file signature verification enabled. I'm following the instructions but a few steps are left out because most people on here are more experienced with this phone, whereas I just switched.
On the old one, I would use Odin to go back to 2.1 Eclair and get 2e recovery before flashing a ROM. No idea how to get around file signature verification on this one.

Something wrong then suggest ask in rom post or try another rom .
Basics are as always flash a rom with root and CWM .
Unzip rom if required
Then load rom into memory card boot to 3e or 4e recovery choose zip and install .
You can toggle signature verification off in CWM .
The method works on 3e and 4e for definite .

Above rom works via 3e recovery .

Nevermind, I figured it out, but what you said helps others who run into this situation. I used the old method of rooting, using CF Root gives me the CWM Manager app and I was able to get into Recovery 4 this way.
I rooted my phone, i can get superuser permissions. I tried to install ClockworkMod and it failed miserably. I flashed it using ROM manager, and when my phone went into recovery, I hit "reinstall packages" twice, but I got an error both times. The error reads
"E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation abored"
According to ROM Manager, I have ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2 (However, it never successfully flashed)
Thanks!
You need the modified 3E recovery.
I actually would suggest ODIN to JFD and root using my guide... its in my signature.
If you plan to flash a ROM, do option B in the guide... you will not even need to mess with Rom Manager (which by the way, has not been working for many Vibrant users recently).... your issue is the 3E recovery though.
ok, thanks very much. I'll use odin. Do you think clockworkmod will ever work on vibrants?
it always has, but something changed recently.. many people have also reported Rom Manager not successfully flashing CWR recently. My guide will make it so you are up and running. Basically it's just a update.zip from CWR that works.. i did nothing to it.

+1, This is true. there are many of reports that CWM flashing through Rom manager isn't working correctly. This guy has some awesome guides so check them out!
Hallo all'
I have just bought A samsung galaxy s2. Its about 2 weeks old now. So I have recently decided to root it but I think It got wrong. It says its rooted because I can use rom manager and superuser. The problem is I just downloaded a rom and every time I get in to recovery mode iam getting the error: so when I go into recovery mode at the android screen with the triangle and exclemation mark I get the error:
Finding package:
Updating
E failed to verify whole file signature
E (another error cant remeber)
Then it goes into recovery mode but I only have.4 options
Reboot
Wipe system
Update system (when I choose update.zip doesnt work)
Wipe cache
help me please?

you need to download flash an insecure kernel in order to get root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Flash the zImage of your root kernel. You will get it by extracting the .tar root file. Copy it to your SD card and flash via CWM with the option Flash Kernel.
Sadly that should not work as at this point he is still running e3 recovery.

Had the same problem, here is the solution I used; seems to have fixed it for me:

Another problem
Solution of brainedbysaucepans worked, but iam having another BIG problem now. So I have installed CWM and went in to CWM with Volume up+Home+Power buttons, from there i choose for install from zip and i have installed the newest
MIUI rom. Restarted. Screen doesnt get passed the ''Samsung galaxy s2'' screen with the triangle and exclemation mark. So I went back to CWM and wiped all data. Still cant get past 1st screen. Telephone is un-usuable. A brick is more usefull then my telephone atm :<. Please help. URGENT.
Without knowing what you have done wrong my suggestion would be to wipe the phone install a stock rom and start reading the faqs and guides .
Full wipe boot to recovery .
mounts and storage format data cache system sd card .
put phone to download mode and flash a stock rom .

Thank you! I know you are wise in saying this, as Recovery 3e requires signature verification for flashing external files. Tried pointing stock Recovery to .zip files on sd card (so as to toggle signature verification off), but it doesn't display those files for some reason. How do I get an alternate Recovery that will work with CWR, so that when I flash it will unpack, or how do I otherwise bypass this requirement? Samsung Galaxy SII, Sprint, rooted, but last 5 hours pretty hung up on getting full Recovery going. Obviously a bit of a noob, but would be wicked happy to get a workaround here so I can start flashing ROMs and such.

bs, cannot find it. BUKI1 2.3.5 (gingerbread.BUKJ3) no work at all
signature not verified
trying to use bloatkill.zip on my Huawei h866c. After placing .zip folder on sd card and updating with recovery, I get signature verification failed message. Is there a work around. My phone is not rooted and cannot be rooted because of the addition of SuameKinUser.apk to my system files. I would like to remove it so I can traditionally root this device.
Thanks for the help.
I'm having the same sort of problem at the moment, did you ever resolve this?
My phone was locked to the 3 network when I got it, I rooted the phone and got it to the current set up as below;
Samsung gt-i9100
android version - 2.3.5
baseband version - I9100NEKI2
kernel version - [email protected] #2
build number - GINGERBREAD.XWKI8
I have SuperSU installed
I have recently tried to update using Cyanogenmod and Revolt files/guides here on XDA, the latest file being revolt_i9100-ALPHA-20131011.zip however i get the same message on install of;
E:failed to verify the whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Can anyone please point out what is going wrong or direct me to another guide that would be best suited to upgrading from my current setup?
