Think samvillian was being sarcastic. Dolphin browser HD has been out for a while and pretty sure almost everybody knows about it. I was using it on my captivate long time ago. Probably why this thread isn't full of "oh this is cool" or "this is an awesome browser" replies from people. There are multiple browsers for android devices in the market. Firefox, opera, opera mini, just to name a few. Just depends on your preference.

Dolphin Browser is the best and most complete mobile web browser I've ever used on a mobile device. Thanks for spreading the word of this great little app.

i noticed that on my s2 before and even after rooting (unnamed) that dolphin HD runs slow.. its noticeable when i scroll up and down on pages and just seems overall sluggish compared to the stock browser... i love the stock browser because its so smooth just wish it had tabs - anyone know a fix or reason why it might run slow on my phone? I tried clearing rams, made sure no others apps were running, and even tried rebooting the phone and messing with the dolphin settings to bare minimum

It runs like silk on mine. Even with pages that are full of graphics and flash. One thing I would try is go a day or trip without killing anything in ram - don't use any task killers or managers including the one that comes installed, just let the kernel handle memory itself and run dolphin all that day, don't even look at the ram usage and see if after a day of that if it is running any better.

I like Dolphin HD, but on my GS2, it held a wakelock (I don't know if it was going to be consistent behavior, but one time is enough for me to uninstall - if it happened once, it'll happen again). Not only that, it was ramping up the CPU and drained my battery significantly within a few minutes. I ended up uninstalling. I'm currently using Miren (and Opera).

I am a bigger fan of Opera Mobile, since it uses the GPU for acceleration. Smooth as can be.

I like dolphin mini, but sticking with opera until dolphin responds to this.

Their official reply is that the URL transmission was to check to see if a webzine version of that page existed on their servers, in which case, it would give you the option of viewing the webzine. This does correspond with how the webzine actually works, so i'm inclined to believe them. They have temporarily removed the functionality so they can add an opt in to make the program's operation clearer to the user.

never used the default browser because of this

Firefox "Fennec" Beta2 for Android

Hey all,
Mozilla just released the updated Firefox browser for Android yesterday.
Click me for press release
From the TL;DR section
*including reduced memory usage
*improved text rendering
*60% install size reduction on Android (from around 43 MB to 17 MB)
*Actions like panning and zooming are faster and smoother
*page load times are reduced from our previous beta.
*On Android 2.2, we’re now around 25% faster on the SunSpider Javascript benchmark than the stock browser
Known issues:
*Users who have a large desktop profile using Firefox Sync may see some performance issues
*Adobe Flash and other plugins are not supported yet
*Text does not wrap to fit the screen after zooming in, as it does in the Android browser (bug 578179). The Easy Reading add-on has some proof-of-concept code to do this.
*535793 - Fennec will load an error page in place of the desired page while connecting to a network and loading a page at the same time
*609366 - If a user changes their network during the middle of a update, the browser packaging may break to the point a re-installation is required.

I'll give it another try......
Skyfire sucks, Dolphin is too bloated, Xscope v6 sucks, Xscope v5 doesnt work on Vibrant that good (better with lag fix). Using Opera now, very nice browser but needs many improvements.
I dont know if its the "Core" kernel, but this browser freezes second time now when i play with it
Thanks for the info and download link. I didn't try the first release because of the size. Giving it a try now.
This will be a good browser when its finalized. Endless features thanks to current and future add-ons

Agreed...they just need our input on the bugs for testing. It's still a little slow but much better than the initial release.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Very buggy for me w wifi, Uninstalled for now
I also noticed that ALL browsers (except for stock and Opera), that work super fast on Nexus, actually lag on Vibrant, so this might also be the case here. I use Xscope v5 on Nexus and it flies, yet i find it unusable on Vibrant even with voodoo lagfix, but it works fine with ext2 lagfix.......weird
will test out "Core" kernel for battery drain and if i get the same results as with JACs, then i will switch to voodoo based kernel again and give this browser another try
Yeah freezes for me too. Sux.

still laggy. question, why don't we have a google chrome on android?
MUUUUUCH better than the last one.
The last one actually froze my phone. This one is doing quite well.

Offtopic: why doesn't the default one come with tab browsing...
XScope is garbage, I have no problems with Dolphin, and Opera is disgustingly slow as of recently. This one shows some promise but Firefox is still taking up a ton of ram.

Xscope is not garbage, well V6 is. V5 is very good, Vibrant is just "slow" and cant run it without issues. Opera on the other hand is very fast and gui is nice in my opinion. Dolphin is just way to bloated.......and also slower then stock.
Tomorrow we are getting Opera 10.1 Beta and this should be the best browser for Vibrant, but stock Froyo browser is already pretty good (aside from no tabs)

Other people have problems with the slow rendering of XScope. There is no reason at all why it would render pages slower than Firefox. That's why I said it's garbage. Opera Mini has huge response times, it doesn't work as well as it used to and it's rendering pages worse than when it originally dropped.

The reason why it renders pages slow (sometimes very slow) is Vibrant. Xscope V5 flies faster then stock on my Nexus. I remember using ext2 lagfix and i believe that fixed Xscope as well.

It's rendering the same page. There is no excuse for it to be much slower than any other browser rendering the same exact page other than it's the browser.

perhaps there is something in the code that doesnt work good on rfs.
As much as I love and respect Firefox and Mozilla as a company, there Android browser isn't quite ready for prime time. There are no major problems, per se, but it takes a loooooooong time to load, and more than a few times it just didn't load the page. In contrast, Sammy's native browser, on the very same hyperlink, zips right to the url.
That being said, I do understand that we are still in the beta phase and that it will be tweaked prior to a full release, if it gets that far. Added to which, being a long time PRIMARY USER of Firefox, I look forward to great things from Mozilla in the future! besides, just like with all their products, they are constantly updating them, so I know that this browser will become a viable alternative in the very near future.

This mod simply changes 3 HEX characters in the libflashplayer.so file from AND to WIN (Look In Post #2). Then copies the modded file over the stock/updated adobe file upon each boot. Many thanks to compuw22c
This mod requires init.d support from your kernel (Entropy/Siyah). Otherwise you will have to use script manager to boot the S98fixflash file. This is not rom specific.
Don't be scared to try this. This mod does not delete/break anything and takes no more than a minute to apply.
Installation Instructions:
Update Flash to the Latest Version on the Market
Download the ZIP file: huluflash-cwc3-21412.zip
Flash the zip from CWM
Use the Desktop Agent in your Browser Settings
Uninstall:
Delete /Data/Flash folder | This is where the modified lib.so file is created
Delete /etc/init.d/S98fixflash file | This is the boot up script
Reboot | Flash overwrites every boot to help prevent this mod
Please note that adblockers will give you the cannot load sponsor page. Just wait the 30-45 seconds and the video will play.
Been testing this for a few days, seems like a decent way to get hulu. I noticed that it is not optimized like youtube is for us. You might notice stuttering in Hulu (Youtube/etc is Unchanged). This does not remove IP restricted areas.
How to edit the libflashplayer.so | You do not need to do this if you flashed the zip. This is just for people who want to try this themselves.
I used HxD which is a free Hex Editor. Tons of features. Open the libflashplayer.so file. Search for "00 41 4E 44" in Hex-values. On the right hand side, replace AND with WIN. Save, and your finished. Here is a comparison of the two files:
Works great using both Dolphin Browser and Maxthon Browser on SHOstock 1.7 with Entropy's kernel. Only thing I notice is it's a little stuttery but that may be due to something on my side. I'll give it a shot on the stock browser once I get it flashed on here again (Maxthon is nice but I still prefer the stock).
Now I can finally watch Hulu away from my computer.
edit: Found the potential cause of my problem... which is another reason I want to get rid of Maxthon and revert to stock.
This was not caused by the mod! Do not be deterred by this.

I noticed the stutter myself though with stock browser. Only on Hulu though. This plugin is not optimized for hulu sadly. I can try to take a look into the other hulu mods out there and see if they use desktop flash files.
So I'm using Maxthon Browser on SHOstock 1.7 with Entropy's Kernel and I'm kinda confused with the last step in the instruction, "Use Desktop Agent in your Browser." I changed the libflashplayer.so so that AND is now WIN. I'm just not sure what you mean by "Use the Desktop Agent." Thanks!

I am rather sure that this is true. Hulu goes by geolocations of IP addresses to determine if you're in the US or not (if I remember correctly). See: http://www.ip2location.com/

Chrome graphics issues. Anyone else?

I have been having some really funky issues with the graphics when in chrome. The issues seem to appear mostly when the keyboard is open, though I believe I've seen it at other times as well. Here is some examples. There are some other cases of where it shows like a scrambled up version of the page but i couldn't capture it. Any suggestions on a fix? Could it be from my 3rd party keyboard?
btw, this is the ics leak that i am using.

The thing is chrome has awesome features integrated with your desktop version of Chrome. I use the main browser for flash since chrome doesn't support it, but it would be nice if we found a way to get rid of the graphical bugs.
Sent from my Evo3D Shooter.
I can confirm that I am having this problem as well.
I have used ViperROM ICS and MeanROM ICS; both do the same thing in Chrome. I have tried the Adreno 220 update and it seems to slightly help, but the problem is still there.
It seems that Chrome pulls some of it's settings from the stock browser, because playing with the debug settings in the stock browser seems to slightly improve the issue (I don't think it's my imagination). I have found that I get best results by forcing 2D hw acceleration in the main system dev options, then in the stock browser settings under "Debug" I turn off 'Enable CPU Upload Path' and turn on OpenGL (at the top).
The tearing and flickering still occurs, but it's slightly better. I'm beginning to wonder if it's a hardware problem? My theory is that it is freaking out trying to composite the transparent gradient above the keyboard (the part that darkens the webpage while you type).
I have tried many different keyboards; it's slightly better with some but the problem is there with them all.
Anybody have any ideas?
In several occasions I couldnt write login info because it wouldn't show me the keyboard

This may or may not solve your specific problem with Facebook, but lets say you wanted Youtube videos to play in the Youtube app instead of in the browser, all you have to do is go to settings>application associations (i think that's the name, it should be right under applications) and change the video player from browser to Youtube, or whichever app you would prefer videos be played in, you can do that with any of the options available in that section. Though certain apps like facebook where its a video uploaded to their service will probably still only play there.
I hope this helps!
Did you try in another browser like Chrome ??
I tried the settings in app associations, still no go. Also tried this in firefox and got the same result. Any othet suggestions

Try downloading Chrome and setting it to your default for web links. On mine when I used the stock browser everything opened in there no matter what my app associations were, but when I had Chrome set all of them worked.
It's all integrated pretty deep into the OS in Sense 4 iirc. Hoping it's removed in 5

Chrome is my favorite..
Easy to access my favorite bookmark. Sync everyting from your mobile and desktop
I was just looking into this the other day... I found the stock browser to be the fastest, but I don't like the fact that I don't have sync and add ons. I really like Firefox because I can sync it across devices and I can get addons! No other browser can do add ons (other than maybe dolphin) to my knowledge.
That's weird... I followed the link that you posted to the aosp browser but it says my device isn't supported? It won't let me open it if I go through with the install, keeps crashing?
The fastest for me would be stock or Next browser which has Google Sync built in as well as add ons.
What about Dolphin? Seems pretty fast. IMO

Next browser is pretty nice! Faster than Firefox for sure and a lot of the same features. Thanks for the recommendation!
Hi,
For what it's worth with Opera (about 550):
In real use Chrome and Opera are the fastest, at least for me...
So uh.. Opera is the better option here? I've tried other browsers every now and then but always went back to Chrome because of the sync with my desktop. It's just so convenient to have it sync like that.

Same reason here, Chrome in all my devices. I used to have Dolphin and Opera before in Nexus days. No more.
yup AOSP is fastest. i got rid of Chrome on day one. tried FF but it was also not good. whats even better about AOSP browser is that you can install Quick ICS Browser on top of it. it needs AOSP installed first to work though because its based off of it.
Quick ICS is still the fastest browser to this day imo, despite the fact that it has ICS in its name. and it has pie menu controls. double awesome.
everyone should check out the pie controls in AOSP browser!! you dont wanna go back after you have tried it
For me stock is the fastest. Chrome seems to suck lol. I do hate that "not responding" msg I get from time to time though.

Thanks bro, didn't realize the PIE control was in the options the whole time. Only issue I had so far, was AOSP browser crashed and I lost the 8 tabs I had saved, no sync like other browsers. Either way, AOSP and PIE!!
AOSP browser syncs with your Chrome bookmarks, too. FYI. You login to it with your Google account just like you would Chrome.
Stock Browser
Incidentally, "Android Browser" in the play store (sorry, I can't post a link yet) seems to be a stock browser implementation that does not require root. I had this installed already and downloaded the AOSP browser and they both have the exact same scores and apparent functionality. fyi
Anyone of those browsers do text wrapping?

Yep, both the AOSP and the Android Browser I mentioned do text reflow.

Ran Sunspider 1.0.2 benchmarks comparing a few favorite web browsers on my stock rooted VS980.
Fastest LG G2 web browser:
1. AOSP 879
2. Firefox 917
3. Mercury 932
4. Chrome 940
5. Opera 1193
6. Maxthon 1247
For comparison I ran Chrome browser:
Nook HD+ (dual core 1.5Ghz) 1004
Sero 7 Pro (quad core 1.3Ghz) 1305 same cpu as Nexus 7
Droid Bionic(dual core 1.2Ghz) 1698

Thanks for this thread, I found a new browser to use.
Here were my test results:
1. Next Browser 872.7ms
2. Stock Browser 1013.4ms
3. Chrome 1041.3ms
I've always used xScope because it doesn't reload the page when you go back. It uses the cached page. Are there any other browsers that do that?
