Is there a possible way to install Swype 3.26 on the Galaxy Ace, or is there a way to update the preinstalled version 2.29.71.20720.543.Cooper to the 3.26?

Just download the installer from beta.swype.com
I tried but it won't install. Should I uninstall the preinstalled Swype? If I do so and still the new Beta version won't install, how do I restore my old Swype? Sorry but I'm just an average Android user. Thanks in advance

Backup your current Swype with Titanium Backup .
Once you've backed up your Swype , uninstall it and try to install Swype beta .
If it fails , restore the old Swype .
Thanks a lot. Will give it a try.
I have backed it up with Titanium but there is no uninstall button when I choose Swype in Application settings. How do I uninstall it? Thanks again!

I don't think you should be messing with gapps... others like the file manager, launcher pro (free) titanium backup (free) etc (if you have alternatives or the paid versions, or i would suggest you leave them as is, as they are very useful apps )can be removed safely...
I have removed
-Car home
-Launcher pro
-Titanium Backup
-File manager (using ghost commander)
other apps i've left them
Do a backup with xrec with the default settings and try removing various apps and test for yourself, if anything goes wrong you can always recover the backed up version

I just think he wants to do a full install and remove the unused apps... maybe he uses market and nothing else (navigation, street view, places etc) so he wants to know if the phone will be stable after removing those apps... so let's stick to advising him on what to remove...

I've just got a Samsung Galaxy S II and am very excited! It's got Navigon pre-installed. I'm coming from a Samsung Nexus S which I installed various custom ROMs on and would like to install custom ROMs on my new Galaxy S II. Is it possible to install a custom ROM and somehow not lose the pre-installed apps like Navigon?
Back the apk's up with titanium backup / root explorer, good luck.

Titanium will backup system apps as well as ones you've installed yourself. You don't have to worry about it.

Some rom will be no-wiped option. So, you can flash the rom and everything will be there.
But for me, clean install might be better.
Good luck on choosing rom

Replacing new market with old market is working fine good work, but how about blocking automatic update from old market to new market??
When you replace new with old the old will be replaced with new when you connect phone to the internet.
I'm not sure but if you delete with root explorer the market updater may help.

Hello people,
So I had rooted my phone, installed cwm recovery and then installed this custom ROM BouDzDroid v.2 for GT-S5830i on my Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i.
Installed from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2061547
I had also created a Titanium backup in case i felt like going back to any of the stock applications.
So the ROM is really cool and all but i lost a major application which i almost can't do without, SWYPE.
So i restored using my titanium backup but its not working properly, this message keeps showing, "process com.swype.android.inputmethod has stopped unexpectedly". I tried going to cwm and fixing permissions but it still doesn't work.
I really want Swype back. Can you guys tell me what to do? Like can someone make a Swype patch for this that i can install on this ROM?

You should have asked this question in BouDzDroid's thread or in Question and Answer section... Now you know for the next time
Anyway, for your question, you can try a 3rd-party app like SwiftKey or TouchPal Keyboard for swipe keyboard function - they use less space than stock Swype.apk

Yeah so i tried substitutes. But SwiftKey, SlideIt all are paid applications, the trial versions are stupid. So now im using Touchpal. Its really good but its just toooo bulky and i need to save up on internal memory. I dont have enough access to post in developer's thread but i've PMed him for now.
Thanks anyway

that's because, if a keyboard is not in the internal memory, you have to set it as your keyboard every time, anyway if you want you can move it to your sd card with Link2SD.

I wouldn't recommend move keyboards, launchers to link2SD, when I had swype in my SD took years to show up than in the internal.

ok i had similar problem like yours. heres the solution.
Swype app may should be in System not in Internal or Sd, and you must add LIB files to System if you want that to be working otherwise it always will be force closing.
1.Change extension of Swype.apk to Swype.zip
2.Open that archive and extract LIB files which have .so
3.change Swype.zip to Swype.apk
4.Move Swype.apk to System/App
5.Move Extracted Lib Files to System/Lib
6.Reboot and Enjoy
