Ok so I have dcd. 3.2.6 and Radio 3.42.50 but for some reason I cannot associate to any wireless network. Even with the correct information. Any ideas? It just keeps trying to connect with no success.

Wireless as in WIFI? Using the switch on the side?
Re: Radio and Wireless
I am also encountering a similar problem. If I stand next to the access point and try to connect to the AP, it fails or it connects but I can't connect to the internet(PIE always can not load page).
I changed the encryption from AES to WEP to no avail. Even went so far as to re flashing 3.2.6. I am also using the same radio as you.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this problem.
Thanks,
Ed
I would take off all WEP and encryption and try to connect with it as a open WiFi. If you still can't connect then you have some other issues either with your WAP or maybe still with your phone. Then if it does connect then add the WEP encryption back on. You may have to change the type of WEP to one the phone supports. I just use MAC filtering so no one else can get on my wireless but scanners can see what is being passed around on my wireless. (mostly teenage girl stuff, I think a scanner would get bored really quick) LOL

you do have the switch turned on, on the side of the phone and then go into the comm manager and at the bottom go into the Wireless LAN settings.
You might need to refresh or manually create the connection if your WAP doesn't broadcast its SSID.
I've been having problems with wi-fi too, mostly since my upgrade. I am on dcd 3.25 and radio 3.42.50. I can usually connect ok, but then either I can't connect to any web sites or I can surf for a few minutes and then it stops (although still shows connected). Since so many are on these (ROM and Radio), I am doubting that is the issue. It did work better on the prior versions of both, but again if not effecting others don't see how that can be the issue. Hopefully it is not a hardware issue since this is already my second phone (power button caved in on the last one, not much quality there). Any ideas?
Thanks,
Fletch

Do you have anything else using your WAP? Just sounds more like your access point then your phone. I had a wireless router that would do that with any wireless device so I had to get a new one.
Unfortunately, there are 2 computers in my house that work fine of the router. It is also happening when I try to connect to wi-fi at work. I've also noticed that sometime it just won't connect. I am in the same room as the router now and it won't even register it. Doesn't even look that hard...searches for 2 seconds and stops. Very strange.
yes the switch is on and enabled in comm manager. It finds signals but can not connect to any of it.
You guys might want to try WiFiFoFum (should be around here somewhere) It will show all the WiFi APs and even use the GPS to log them. If they don't register there, then I would say try flashing the Radio and DCD's ROMs again. The only issue I had with WiFi is it wouldn't turn on with the hardware switch and I swapped out the phone.
Thanks, I'll give it a try....
Fletcher,
I've got the exact same problem. When I leave my AP open, it connects and stays connected. As soon as I switch over to WPA-PSK AES with an 8 character key, I get the symptoms that you describe. I can get to about 2 pages in PIE and then it takes a dump.
I'm on DCD 3.2.6 and radio 3.42.50. I don't have a solution, but at least wanted to let you know that you're not alone. It has to be something software related. I have a bunch of other clients that connect no problem with the same settings: PS3, Wii, laptop, PSP. I LOVE DCD roms, but may have to switch if I can't figure something out.
I am still having trouble connecting. It can see signals but not connect to any of them.
Tried wififofum. It sees the AP's and I can sometime connect. But no matter what it drops the connection within a few minutes. Then it won't reconnect or see any ap's (only looks for about 5 secs then stops). If I leave the switch off for a while and then try again, I can do the same thing all over again.
What do you think? A setting, a reg setting, broken phone? Thanks to any and all.....
-Fletch
Not sure if this helps, but I noticed that when it drops the internet connection (after 3-5 minutes), that when I look at WIFIFOFUM it still show the AP. A few time, it showed that the AP was no longer available, but the graphic at the top still shows connected by the phone. It seems like a software or hardware problem with the phone, but I'm not sure which. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Hey I'm new to android, just got a vibrant last week. Decided to unlock it as I travel a lot. The unlock worked, but now I'm having issues with my wifi. I can connect to a wireless network but I cant load pages. The wireless signal is strong and I tried with different routers, but still no luck. Looked through the forum and googled it but couldn't find a solution. If some one could please help with this, it would be much appreciated
try clearing your current wifi settings including remembered connections, passwords, and everything else...then re-scan for networks all over again, that's all I can think of for now
By that you mean just gong into settings->wireless and networks->wifi settings and then just forget the net work, rescan, and rejoin the network? If so, I did that but am still getting the same result. If you can think of anything else or if I didnt do what you suggested correctly please let me know. Thanks

yeah, thats what I meant :/....hmmm...sounds like your connection is working, can you download stuff from the market or is it just the browser? cause I unlocked mine too and wifi works fine
No I cant download anything from the market. I cant do anything that requires an internet connection, but it does show that I am connected to a network.

I sure hope so, thanks for your help
Have you been able to try another network? My first thought was it was in Ad-Hoc mode but I could be wrong. If nothing else restore to stock firmware and then try a different unlock.
Happened to me too. It would show the wifi icon on the notification bar but wouldn't load pages. I'd go to the settings and it'd say can't turn off wifi or can't turn on wifi. And when it was "on" I'd say connecting to modem then it'd just stop. When I was using the browser on wifi it would load a page even when I had full bars. I had to turn it off then back on to load another page. Is this similar to the problem your having?

I hope this doesn't sound stupid but yesterday I uninstalled Advanced Task Manager and poof my wifi started working again. The phone also seems to suffer from less occasional lag without it installed, but that's another story for another thread. Prior to this I had to manually turn my wifi connection off and on, but even that didn't always work. Since the uninstall I have not my wifi connection once. I am currently using the stock rom, rooted with minor adjustments here and there.
hi guys, i also have this problem.
i will be taking the phone in to the tmobile store on thursday.
it shows that i am connected via wifi; however, anything that requires an internet connection does not load.
very frustrating, since just yesterday i used the samsung kies software to tether a network for my laptop. i was testing the capability of the vibrant to act as a modem, and it worked just fine.
any help would be appreciated!
thank you

I also have this problem.

found any solution to this problem?
Hi all,
This is happening to me too. Rebooting seems to get Wifi working correctly again. But the problem comes back eventually.
Maybe a bug in the latest JI6 update?

Someone found any solution for this problem?

Thanks.

It seems like there are a good handful of users having issues with wireless going to sleep/losing connection. I have my wireless set to never sleep however when my screen is off for 15 minutes or so my wireless is in a state of "obtaining ip address" and never seems to re connect unless I toggle wireless on/off. I have also tried turning 3G off while in wireless range and this did not help.
I usually only see this when I'm at work and the connection to the AP is weak. I have not had this problem at home where the connection to the AP is strong.
I had this same issue with the Eclipse ROM version 1.3. Although it seems to be amplified with cm7.
Also my install was off a fresh sbf, this is my only issue and it is by far not a deal breaker.
Figured I would start this thread since the cm7 thread is getting quite large to sift through.
If anyone has a solid workaround please share!

I'm getting some of this behavior. I set my wifi sleep policy to "never," but every now and then I'll pick up my phone and notice the wifi disconnected itself (but was still "on") and won't get past "obtaining IP address."
So yeah, my fix has been the same as yours (turn off wifi, then turn it back on).
Same here. I downloaded wifi fixer off the market but that didn't help any.

I am unable to get mine to work at all. It will start to connect then when it gets to obtaining IP address it quits and the network shows disabled. It does this everytime no matter which settings I use.

I have to set my screen to stay on for large downloads or it disconnects. Sometimes it will lock up my whole network and have to reset router. Dlink dir615.

Same here. Everything I have tried has not helped at all.
Something I noticed on mine is when this happens the green skin on the wireless and signal (data network) icons is gone.
And if I turn off wifi and back on, the green skin is re applied and wireless works.
I'm running adw ex (paid) but other than that everything follows the install steps exactly in the OP from the cm7 beta thread. I've not installed the tethering patch pre or post BT.

Do you mean that your icons turn white? That's normal with any ROM or build. It means that you are connected with the router or cell service, but that it is giving you an ip and opening ports to allow you to use it.
With that said, since Eclipse 1.3, I have always had it randomly d/c or turn white, in which case even though I'm still technically connected, I can't use the service. Likely a Motorola problem.

Yes that's exactly what I mean, thanks for pointing that out I had no idea..
Thanks for the input!
Lol no problem. I only assume its a Motorola problem because its been fairly consistent with my phone, through multiple ROMs, but I can't remember prior to Eclipse 1.3 if I was experiencing it. For all I know it could be a build.prop mod that a lot of our devs are using that may indirectly do it.
I've been having the same (or similar) problems with Wifi on CM7DX2. I did some experimentation and some debugging and have it narrowed down to what I think is a problem with DHCPCD fetching an IP (or rather, failing to do so). Here's my observations:
If Wireless is off and I toggle it on, it has no problem getting onto the network at work (open 802.11g) or at home (WPA2-AES 802.11n). The connection seems fine for a while (so long as I'm using the phone, though that only tends to be in bursts of 10-15 minutes or so). Once the phone goes to sleep (or I put it to sleep) it seems to put wifi to sleep (only a guess), but only once the phone has been sleeping for a couple of minutes or more. If I sleep it and immediately wake it up, it seems okay. I have my wifi configured to never go to sleep.
Once wifi wakes up, it attempts to connect to the network, sits there at obtaining an ip, then fails, sometimes marking the connection as "Disabled". I did some troubleshooting, including poking through the phone logs and saw some stuff related to dhcpcd. Unfortunately, all that's sitting on my laptop at home at the moment. I'll try and get that posted when I get home.
Working on the theory that dhcpcd is the problem, I tried setting a static ip at home (can't do it at work or the network people yell at you). Sure enough, the problem seemed to go away. So, as far as I can tell, the wireless driver itself, as well as wpa supplicant, seem to work fine. It's just dhcpcd fails to be able to obtain an IP until you power cycle wireless.
If any of the devs who have more of a clue about the internals of the android network stack can chime in and ask more questions, I'd be more than happy to provide what information I can gather. I'm a Linux admin, so I'm very comfortable with a command line if I know what to look for. I'm just not too familiar with the android way of doing things (which seems very different than a normal Linux distro).
Thanks!
Edit:
I forgot, I have a crashplan backup of my laptop, so I was able to grab the file... here's the relevant bits of data related to dhcpcd
E/dhcpcd (23840): open_udp_socket: Cannot assign requested address
E/dhcpcd (22434): open_udp_socket: Cannot assign requested address
E/WifiStateTracker( 1978): DHCP request failed: Timed out waiting for dhcpcd to start
E/dhcpcd (22434): open_udp_socket: Cannot assign requested address
E/dhcpcd (23840): open_udp_socket: Cannot assign requested address
E/dhcpcd (24029): open_udp_socket: Cannot assign requested address
E/dhcpcd (24060): flock `/data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-eth0.pid': Try again
E/WifiStateTracker( 1978): DHCP request failed: Timed out waiting for dhcpcd to start
It repeats that stuff over and over again when it fails to be able to connect to a network. When it's successful, dhcpcd is silent.

Its not an install issue. Icons for 3g and wifi turning white is common; it tells you that you're connected with the router or cell tower but aren't receiving a usable internet connection yet. I expect that its having a hard time obtaining an IP like one post already detailed.
Also, on a side note, my phone just decided after a week of normalcy to try to autocorrect "wifi" to "Sofia". Figured you should all be aware of this travesty.
I have my network setup to assign ip address according to mac address cause i need certain devices to always have same ip. Well i switched my Droid x2 to manual ip instead of dhcp and disconnects no longer happen when screen goes off. Going to test test of night but seems good so far. So for some reason it has to do with dhcp like other post said.

No I sbf before any new ROM i flash just for a fresh start.
It almost seems to me like the wifi is going to sleep even tho i have it set to never sleep. It also only seems to happen when i have a weaker signal to the AP. I don't even bother using wifi at work anymore because it got so bad. This happened with liberty and eclipse 1.3 but not nearly as bad as with cm7.
I mainly only notice it at work because i will leave my phone idle on my desk for long periods of time and when i return the wifi is stuck "trying to acquire ip address"and will not unless i toggle wifi. I do sometimes notice it while my phone is in use. I stream sirius/xm and anytime it cuts out i turn on my phone and sure enough it's "trying to acquire ip address".
Like i said in op it's not a deal breaker by any means it's just something i noticed got worse once i went to cm7.
This is by far the best ROM I've used on the dx2, although i haven't tried miui yet.

Some additional observation tonight. While setting a static ip will make sure you can get back online over wifi, I don't think it's actually preventing the root problem. I just woke the phone up and it looked like the wifi had disconnected while sleeping (the wifi "bars" were all grey for a second before they filled in). So, while there seems to be some problem with dhcpcd fetching an ip after waking from sleep, the wifi shouldn't be sleeping in the first place, but it is. Is it possible that setting in the CM7 Wifi Settings menu isn't actually affecting the behavior of the driver (or whatever actually puts it to sleep)?

I think your right, it was more consistent on static ip but it did eventually lock up my router again. The constant connects and disconnects must freak out the router.

Hi All
Having a spot of bother tonight
Randomly my SG2 could not access the internet through my router.
It sees my router, no problem there. I can switch off wifi and get online with my data but not through wifi.
I had been using it all day but it just randomly stopped tonight and my router is working perfectly as my laptop and other phone is connected.
I have restored 3 different Roms which were up to two weeks old in some cases. Also flashed 3 kernels and 3-4 modems
On ICS Stock rooted LP7 with CF root LP7 kernel
Not sure what else to try so any help would be appreciated
I have searched and tried everything I can so if you can help, thank you.

I tried it, but unfortunately it didnt work for me but I appreciate your help.
after flashing it, I couldnt even turn on wifi at the toggles or menu so I am doing a restore now and hopefully it will work.
I am not sure if doing a complete restore to stock firmware again will work.
Really dont know how this wifi issue so randomly appeared
Was your phone getting a DHCP address from the router or not ? on ICS, that happens when you get the popup message "Connected to XXXX".

Hi Vaxxi
If I dont understand what you are asking correctly, sorry.
the phone is receiving an I.P., gateway, dns, etc. each time I log on.
I can see that wifi connectivity is active but nothing is working despite clearing caches, doing restores, etc.
the problem started randomly
Yes, I was asking if it gets an IP through DHCP. Sometimes it gets stuck and you have to remove a file manually in order to refresh the IP address, but your problem seems to be somewhere else. Can you ping your phone from the router after it gets an IP address ?

I cant get near my router tonight unfortunately
I can 'see' it through 'Fing' app but if I try to use speedtest.net app to see if I have data, I get nothing.
I think I will try another stock flash again with LP7 stock, but I doubt it will work.

Strange as prior to flashing the firmware everything except my phone could avail of net access.
Thanks to each of you that helped.

Hi guys,
So my Evo 3D updated to ICS last night, internet worked before and after update. The phones internet just stopped working, it connects to the wifi router, tries to sync, i try open anything that requires internet and no internet. The symptoms are as if i entered a setting wrong, but trust me i have been trying this for hours to FORGET network then re-add it. I rebooted the router, i have tried connecting to another router, it connects but no internet (i am using static, its my work connection). I can ping the phone.
What are your suggestions? I have cleared all cache, took battery out. When i use Mobile Network everything then works. This is very frustrating as Wifi should be a simple thing for Android. PLEEEEEASSSEEE get this working
I have the same problem... today i updated my evo to android ICS and connect to wifi, wifi is connected, but not internet

I tried but it did not help..
Simple, ##786#. Enter your MSL code. Click yes. Phone will format itself (no, not your SD card). It will clear any NV (Non-Volatile) memory. And it will have blanked out IDs for Username and MEID and whatnot. This is not just a factory reset or a /data wipe. After it finally boots up, it will give the 'Hands-Free Activation', followed by 1x connection, followed by 3G.
I am assuming that the ICS update was an OTA, which means that I am unaware of the official Sprint update. I'll read the General forums see if that's what it is. Nonetheless, if this is a custom ROM, be aware that some custom ROMs will NOT properly activate after an RTN reset. In the case that it IS the case; and you don't have any connectivity, even phone services, simply flash a Stock rooted ROM. Edit: I see you did mean the official OTA, so ignore this paragraph as it only applies to a few custom Sense ROMs, and all AOSP ROMs which can accept ##RTN#.
In the case that your phone is not rooted / S-Off, ignore the entirety of the 2nd paragraph.
Hmm, maybe ignore all this, seeing as how I misread it was your WiFi erroring. I do not see how an RTN will fix that. One of the .ko files probably needs replacing.
