[q] htc flyer 2.27.707.2 update - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

After achieving s-off on my HTC flyer, I am now unable to install the latest security update from HTC - 2.27.707.2. I get an error at restart and have to force restart. Any ideas?
PS: apologies if there's already a thread!

Maybe that update is to patch the security hole which relates to S-off
I can install it because My stockrom is untouched since the beginning

I'm guessing that you're running a custom recovery? You may need to flash the stock Android recovery for it to work with S-OFF... I've done this with my DInc with S-OFF, so not sure if that's the end all be all answer here.
The update I believe is for the HTCLoggers and HTC's data collecting. There is an app to rid your device of that, created by Treve, and it's called Logging TestApp. Here a link to the Market where the license key is for the Pro version, it's $1: Market.
Here's a link to the thread where you can download the APK, you'll need that installed before you install the license (if you choose to spend $1): XDA post by Treve

s-off flyer wont OTA Update? or lost root after RUU? (non-tech solution)

OK, if you have performed the revolutionary s-off like me, your OTA updates wont Update!
Have no fear (or better you should... )
A way forward is here....
Use EsFileExplorer Manager to back up all your apps.
Use HTC Sync to Backup as much data as you see fit....
I have to say this is relatively easy for noobs but involves a fair bit of work as it returns your device to a factory format (some would say a benefit as all crud is removed!)
First choose the correct RUU update from the stock ROM section on here for your device (all latest FW's are there if people supply them...).
This will install from your PC to the Flyer when USB cable is connected, cancel HTC Sync then close it, and then run the RUU update.
This will install the latest firmware but the results are:
s-off is still present.
CWM Recovery and Super User are removed.
All you have to do then is
Uninstall HTSync from your PC.
Shut down both PC and Flyer and restart.
Connect the flyer back to the PC in HTC sync mode, and run revolutionary.exe, it will protest that your unit is already s-off but will give you the option to install CWM again.
Once this is done, you can use CWM to re-install the Superuser file su-2.3.6.3-egfh.zip
Your Flyer will be back to a rooted, Super User factory version of the latest update where you have to install all your apps and customisations again, BUT at least you got your update....
If you did not save the revolutionary.zip file first time, you can still perform this through the website.
If you want to enable phone function, you can either perform the build.prop edit found on this forum area or I would suggest you use the http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=1359&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D1205050&v=1&libid=1314447895451&out=http%3A%2F%2Fandroidrevolution.nl%2Fnickiberli%2Findex.php%3Fdir%3DFlyer%252FMODs%252F&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fforumdisplay.php%3Ff%3D1023&title=%5BROM%5D%5BKernel%5D%5BFlyer%5D%20FlyHigh%20ROM%20v1.2%20%7C%20extra%20speed%20%7C%20GSM%2FWiFi%20script%20%7C%20Android%202.3.4%20-%20xda-developers&txt=enable_gsm_phone_calls.zip&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13144479250571 by niciberli installed via CWM (donate to him as this one gives true contact images in phone...)
Only drawback with that is your software version in 'About Device' will say FlyHigh ROM! but it is actually stock.....
Enjoy....
Donate to football if you can in the shipped ROMs thread as he provides the support for this and any other guys such as globatron. For me, just tick the Thanks box if you find it useful.
Thank you... now I just need the latest update RUU 2.27.207.1 for o2
Well this was just perfect for me. I lost root when I flashed a stock rom and I was looking for an easy way to get it back. This did it! Thanks so much.
You can also re-flash recovery using fastboot and then install su.zip. You don't have to use revolutionary, for some people the recovery download doesn't work through revolutionary.
See the instructions in my S-OFF thread for what to do if revolutionary fails to install recovery and go from there.
As CWM is removed when a RUU is performed, and a .zip needs to be installed, I tried to keep it simple for noobs, but any input is welcome for all of us!
Does this work for the Sprint View? If not, can you tell me how to upgrade a rooted/s-off evo view?
thank Farsquidge.
but i cannot find the Original Rom for HK.
don't know how to update 2.3.4
maybe waiting a new vision to update my flyer
thank you again

Thanks - however, can someone point me to the correct RUU? I am currently using Sprint Evo View 1.18.651.1, baseband 1.05.11.0509. It is rooted with S-OFF. I looked in this post but could not find the correct RUU.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062184
TIA
Edit: I was able to flash it back to stock, then upgraded to GB 2.3.4, and re-rooted. I cannot figure out how to flash recovery - I keep getting "waiting for device".
what hboot version do you have after running this?
i now have hboot-6.10.1002. and following this link but using RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_2.23.405.3_R_Radio_20.3504.30.08 9BU_3809.07.04.06_M_release_204108_signed instead.
So I am not sure if this is related, but what is happening is that the internal storage is not picked up by CWM. Or is that expected behaviour?

Just got a notification that there is a system update for my wireless only Flyer

Should I install it? I just did an OTA update a week ago that updated my Flyer from Android version 2.3.3 to 2.3.4. So could this be HoneyComb or just another GB update?
My flyer is currently NOT rooted, and I'm afraid that if I do allow the update it will close my ability to do so. Anyway to find out exactly what this update is without installing it?
Oh... the only info given about the update in the pop-up window is..
"This new software contains an important security update. HTC strongly urges you to immediately download and install the update."
Thanks.
What it the update version number and/or size? You can download it safely, it will ask for confirmation before installing.
If you still can't find the information I asked for if you can upload the zip file I can tell you what it is.
Ok I donwloaded and I'm now at the "Intall Now or Install later" option but it doesn't give any kind of version number information. Where on the system are these updates downloaded to, and will I be able to access the file given that my Flyer is still not rooted?
Although I will say that I doubt seriously that this update is HC as it took less than 30 seconds to download. I think HC is expected to be 200+ MB correct?
Correct it's certainly not downloadable in a few seconds, sound more like a security update.
Ok found it. It's actually downloaded to my download folder on the internal SD card, which is unlike my G2 phone which puts them on a system level directory.
So the file name is as follows.
OTA_Flyer_BrightstarUS_WWE_2.27.1540.32-2.27.1540.31_release_2192866n4gxzbfan0gt0go.zip and it is 4mb.
So this is not HC. Sorry if I got anyone excited. But now given this info if I install this will it possibly keep me from being able to root the device?
No it won't.
globatron,
Will this OTA update (build version 2.27.1540.32) affect how we apply your instructions on upgrading from s-off GB to s-off HC? and the implication on downgrading from HC back to stock GB later? I guess the downgrade would get us back to the version prior to this security OTA due to original RUU is on version 2.27.1540.31?!
No it won't affect the procedures.
Correct on the downgrade.
I have a Best Buy WiFi Flyer and have the update notification, however I'm rooted with S-OFF and do not wish to update. Is there anyway I can get rid of the notification? I tried clearing it, turning off auto update notifications and rebooting to no avail. Thanks!

That's normal behavior, you have to be in fastboot mode to run fastboot commands.

[view] urgent!! Problem

Was messing with my Evo View and trying to get updates to work since I kept getting the "error 1233" so I tapped the HTC update check and there was available update I figured it might be what's keeping me from seeing the HC options so tapped it and updated it. The Evo shutdown and rebooted without any issue then when back to updates and didn't want to work so I rebooted and now I'm stuck on the soft brick with a hboot of 6.13.1002 and I can't do anything from there.
ANY HELP PLZ.
Needs moar details before anyone can help you. Are you s-off'ed?
What update were you on before updating?
It's s-off was on the 1.13 hboot and still running the GB firmware, I was trying to use the hboot that was provided for HC but fastboot was giving me an error saying it couldnt read it or something.
I used the update under the HTC firmware since all the others were giving me error codes 1233.
If you're still S-OFF (Poor move doing OTA updates with s-off and root) Boot into the the bootloader (power+volume down), select recovery, boot into recovery and fix yourself.

[Q] Htc Dev Legend is Free

You can unlock your htc legend at HTC DEV.
Once the new file is installed and the phone is s-off, how do I re-root the phone?
Exactly! Also my question! They want you to upgrade your Bootloader which will disable you from rooting (all methods I've heard of require old versions Bootloader).
Any solution before we dive into this WONDERFUL UNLOCKED REALM?
Hi, just signed up to HTC dev to see what's going on with bootloader unlock, I started the procedure but told me it wants to delete everything on my phone, bugger that.
This is HTC official root method, it says you can load custom rom's and change the recovery but it is still s-on to protect the radio and sim lock (network).
Now if u are not already rooted then its gonna make it hard, esspecialy to backup, however we still have revolutionary temp root to backup with titanium.
For those already rooted, I'm not sure if there is any advantage, except you can flash custom recovery, we have fakeflash so not much point IMO.
Oh, just realised it gives unrestricted access to /system folder so that might make it worth while after all..

Deleted, no longer relevent
Do we have to go back to stock before running this or can it be run with a custom ROM installed?

Good question. I suspect it might only work with unrooted legends.
If that is the case its gonna be a big hassle, but not impossible.

wow wow wow WOOOW!!! I didn't expected this!!!!! I will unlock my bootloader and install the clockwork recovery ASAP!
For rooted legend you can make a nandroid, install the RUU, install a recovery (the .img recovery from the rom manager site) and restore the nandroid
Do you plan on doing it on yours?
I noticed that there is also a wifi security update out for the legend too,
The bootloader unlock is 3.15.405.5, and the wifi fix is 3.15.405.6, so I guess it has to be in that order or the bootloader unlock wont run.
Good,Now my phone has hboot unlocked, but is there a way to disable the security flag and finally get SOFF now ?
Stevenstrike,
Did you install that update on top of your cm custom rom?
Any problems at all?
No
Just find a HTC stock rom for your legend, then update the rom via OTA if needed, then try to apply the hboot update, after that use the htcsupertoolv3 to gain perm root, and if you want, flash cwm fastboot to access cwm as recovery.
Thanks,
Are you applying their Wifi security fix as well?

Never heard of that, besides my radio is already 7.13.35.05, so i think i dont have to apply this.
Edit : Link to gain Perm Root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432074 (link is for wildfire S but also work for Legend)
and link to flash CWM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244371&highlight=cwm ( then do a fastboot flash recovery <recoveryFile>.img )
Ah ok, I see that the Bootloader unlock is software version 3.15.405.5, security update is 3.15.405.6, does that make a difference or is it purely the radio that matters?

Not at the moment, I am already rooted & happy with what I have ATM. I can do everything I need via recovery and android commander. Might give it a go at a later date.

I still says S-ON but you can do anything that requires r/w permission on /system.
Tested with SU update, BusyBox installation, host write with AdAway.
Gees this is complicated, almost as hard and confusing as rooting hboot 1.01 in the first place.
I have downloaded the hboot 1.02 update, I'm wondering if you can just do that on its own on a rooted phone?
I just worry that it might do some real damage if you do, cause I don't think we can go back to 1.01 or other hboot later.

[Q] HTC Desire 610 BusyBox Problems - Newbie at Rooting

Whenever I try to install "BusyBox", I can't... My phone either fails to install, or reboots. Also, whenever I try to use "Network Spoofer", a message appears saying the I have BusyBox installed, but it doesn't have the required component '?'. I just used "BusyBox on Rails" and then recovery, but it says "Missing Applets"? How can I fix this?
On this phone, even with root and an unlocked bootloader, there is still HTC's s-on. Until someone manages to get s-off, BusyBox can't be installed. I ran into the same problem.
EDIT:
I just flashed this kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-610/orig-development/kernel-jmz-a3ul-kernel-v1-t2847983
It allowed me to install BusyBox properly. Go nuts.
The above information is halfway incorrect. The phone has system write protection, s-on has nothing to do with it. Also, I made a rom yesterday from the new 1.50 OTA update. Included busybox and root. Working on wp_mod to disable the write protection now, before releasing it. The kernel above is based on the previous 1.30 version's kernel, and I was having major issues with freezing with it installed. Just use caution and always make backups in twrp before modding.

Thank you for telling me this! So just to be clear, the other Kernel isn't completely safe for an HTC Desire 610?
Yes, it is safe, it's just for an older version of the Rom. If you've taken the OTA update to 1.50, you may have issues with it.
Thank you ClearD!
Waiting for your kernel, but I have question: could you tell me where is the kernel version number on the 610 please? I see only 3.4.0-g0169dc2 or the build number 1.31.401.2
I have Tampered, unlocked and S-off rooted with TWRP
Thank you
