Whats a good rom? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I havent been here in months so i am really behind in all the roms now, whats a good rom that still has a good kick but something thats out latest? Gingerbread or so, i had miui but im bored of it now

I am wondering the same too. MIUI is way to glitchy for me though. It always force closes and drives me crazy. I wish it didn't because I LOVE THE CUSTOMIZATION for it! But yea, I'm trying CyanogenMod 7 right now, and it's ok. But I kinda prefer MIUI.

I'm on MIUI and using the SS 14.1 Revamped version and have had zero force closes. Have you tried fixing permissions either through ROM Manager or through the advanced menu in the kernel?
If you're bored with MIUI, I think you're stuck. MIUI is the only truly interesting, non-incremental upgrade I've used to date. Everything else feels like a pale shadow in its awesome presence.
CM7 did go stable if you want to play with that a bit. The lockscreen gestures are nice.

I have to agree with kaintfm, I haven't had any FC's in a while. I'm presently on SS-14.1 without any changes to the kernel as it came in the rom. I think if you try MIUI SS-14.1 or LE 5.1 you will be plesantly surprised as to how far they have come.

Is MIUI SS-14 available on ROM manager? Because I didn't see it there. :O Would we have to get it online then?
Right now, I'm using MIUI 1.10.21. That's not the same right?
And OP, I think the best ones out there right now are MIUI and CM7. I absolutely love the lockscreen gestures on CM7! I hope MIUI can do that someday soon. Haha.

Not sure about SS-14 and ROM Manager. I always flash it manually by going into recovery by way of the long-press power menu. You can find it in the developer forums or the Samsung Vibrant forums over on MIUI.us.

MIUI or CM7?

After running CM7 for quite sometime now, I have to say-- it is quite amazing. There are many things that I admire about it, mainly the customization and the speed. Battery life is not that bad either. But i was just wondering, would you recommend switching to MIUI over CM7, and why? There are a bunch of people who love the MI User Interface, and i was thinking- what is so great about it? I would try it but CM7 is perfect for me..
If you like beauty, come to miui.
If you liked the iphone ui, not all of it, but buttons and menus, then this is for you. Much more options, I can change my boot animation, my icons, my theme with 1 press of a button.
Variety of choices.
Miui is cm7, but with beauty. If you like how android or cm7 looks, keep cm7, you'll hate miui
So if I like stock AOSP, then this isn't for me?

[Q] Deblur procedure?

Anybody knows if this works on the Atrix?

Many developers tried to deblur stock ROM on the Atrix and always ran into problems. Blur is very deeply integrated, meaning it's easier to compile an AOSP rom than deblur the official rom. And that's exactly what developers are doing at the moment.
See the CM7 thread.
On so many levels I can't wait to see the final "official" version of CM7 and compare it to the stock...
The biggest problem with Blur is that it is all the way down into the framework and if you start removing stuff, some of the "markers" will be broken. AOSP is the best way to deBlur but until then you can always install a semi deblurred custom ROM and freeze what you don't need. That's what I've done and in day to day tasks it feels like an AOSP ROM (sorta). Unless you drill down into settings, you wouldn't know my phone was running Blur at all.
oh... interesting. I guess I'll wait for CM7

MIUI vs Other Roms

There are so many GB roms out there now. What's the difference between miui and say Simply Honey? I've only ever used that and Simply Stock. Is one better than the other as far as performance or is it more visual? Thanks!
Simply Stock 2.3.5 JVS w/ 1.2 Talon Kernel. Badass Rom \m/
Miui is mostly visual it is an overhaul of android ui its also fast but i multitasking menu is slow to start when playing games but it is cool also its smooth over all battery is avrage to bad 8-12 hrs in my experience an other gb roms is samsung roms on steriods an battery is great 12-20 for me froyo like 14-24 an its regular android with twiz on top of it an the browser is lag free on jvs an jvr roms an i prefer sammy gingerbread because its better over all

If I may explain in a slightly less feverish run-on-sentencey way than Jason, MIUI is built from the ground up, while most other Gingerbread ROMs are based on leaked i9000 ROMs from Samsung.
MIUI has a unique launcher that does away with the app drawer, instead putting all apps on your home pages which are easily organized into folders of your choosing. It also has many special features you can't find in the leaked i9000 gingerbread ROMs. For instance, long pressing a toggle like wifi or bluetooth will open up its settings.
MIUI is also, in my experience, a much smoother experience than Froyo and even leaked Gingerbread. The launcher has no lag with only a mild overclock, and apps load quickly. Even the phone itself starts up quicker than with other ROMs.
The best part of MIUI is in the customization by way of theming. All those special lockscreens that require custom ROMs and flashing to use? MIUI allows for anywhere from single swipe to, I'm not kidding, 15 button lock screens simply by downloading them through the online theme collection. You can change your icons, status bar, lock screen and wallpaper, dialer, SMS, and more by simply downloading a theme online through MIUI, and can even mix and match various components to your liking. SMS from Blue Dado Black combined with an animated lockscreen from some indecipherable Chinese name and a font from the Evolver theme, and on and on.
That's just the tip of the iceberg. If you want to know more, read the MIUI threads in the Development section. For me, I can't imagine leaving the ROM without something catastrophic happening.
Thanks man!! I'm gonna give one a try tonight.
One quick question, if I have the gb bootloaders I need to Odin the froyo one right? Also need to be on stock 2.1 or .22

Yes, you'll need a Froyo bootloader. I just installed Lithium V2.1 MIUI and wow, it's super cool. I'm trying to figure out the lockscreens.
of all roms that I have tried Simply Stock 2.3.5 JVS w/ 1.2 Talon Kernel is one badass rom!!!!!!!!!!! it is super fast with 0 bugs or forced closes and I have no desire to switch it for any other "pretty rom"

I have never tried a jv(anything) Tom but I did try every froyo I could get my phone on and I did miui in early augustvand it was a constant flash back and forth from cm7 to that.
I have noticed occasionally lag while loading apps like cnet tv and games (using chainfire pro).
What was the last miui you tried? I must say l, miui as is really stable and still fast, lithium rocks in speed, stock is my face so far when the powermod is applied.
I could not justify staying off of froyo until now.
Miui launches apps fast but are they faster once loaded in Samsung base rom's?
Also it has been since august that I tried any cm7 nightlies since gr90, is it just me or has miui surpassed cm7 in stability with less maunual fixes?
One thing is that the speaker on off for people to hear me is still happening on every miui I try

[Q] whats the best rom for the aria?

hey guys was just wondering what do you think is the best ive been using nightlys for ages im thinking of changing?
what do you think i should change to?
Well, in my opinion it's a taste thing. Like what is the best color?
I have tried CM6, CM7, and Liberated Aria FR008. For my taste, I like the latest CM7 stable release 7.1.0 the best in terms of interface, settings, battery life, etc.
I was a Sense rom fan for the longest time but with the latest CM7 stable release, I have to say CM7 hands down. As TR_HTC said, it is simply better in all the categories. I only miss some of the Sense Widgets and apps but nothing that I can't live without.

No. You'll just have to get a theme for the rom or launcher (or a new launcher if anything). See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970459 (you still won't get sense widgets though).

[XPU] Stock Or Rom?

I've Been Flashing Roms For A While, From ICS To JB 4.3.
I Like the Broad Amount Of Features And Customization Of Roms, Yet I Really Need Something That Will Work.
The 1st Rom That Did Work In The JB Side Of Things Was @bibhu059 's Complete JB Experience, Fast, No Annoying Blur At The Bottom Of The Screen In SD Video Watching For Youtube (I'm A Big Watcher Of Youtube Videos By The Way) And Sonys Stock Being Something I Like..
Then I Went Back To CyanogenMod With 10.2 By @DroidModderXtreme. Its A Good Experience And If I Decide To Go To Stock, Id Wait For A Stable Version Or Another Flavour Of 4.3 With His ParanoidAndroid Coming Soon.
So Basically I Need A Good User Interface Experience (I Hated Sonys JB), Fast And Smooth, And Fully Working Functions, Yet I'd Like To Be Able To Use A Custom Launcher (Being Action Launcher Pro As It Lets You Use Icon Packs And Has A Good Interface). Also, If I Were To Go Back To Stock, Id Still Be Rooting And Maybe Getting CWM..
What Do You Guys Think, Stock W/Root Or A Custom Rom. If You Think Custom Roms Are Better, Any Recommendations? Thanks.
(Also, Sorry For Weird Layout Its How I Like To Type, Also Use Shift For Every Word So I Have An Uppercase In Every Word)
