HTC Sensation to Galaxy SII - Need input - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Well I am now on my 3rd HTC Sensation with yet another manufacture defect. I went back into the T-Mobile store this morning to see what my options are. The lady at the store is extremely friendly and is going out of her way to help me out even though I'm passed the 30 day purchase date.
She told me she is willing to swap my HTC Sensation with a brand new one on the spot (for the 4th time) - OR - if I pay the $20 difference she will allow me to get a new Galaxy SII instead.
I love the current feel of the Sensation but I'm getting quite sick of the random design flaws this device seems to have such as allowing a ton of dust under the screen and power button issues.
The design of the GSII feels solid but I'm nervous about how much bigger the phone is than the Sensation.
I know I will get some biased answers posting in this forum but I'm mainly looking for those who have switched from the Sensation to the GSII. Please fill me in with your thoughts.
Thanks!

Do eet... Its the best Android device I've had yet... and I've had a lot.

The galaxy s2 is my first android device so I don't have much to compare to. But anyway, the phone is great and I don't thing you will have any reasons to regret it,

Well after doing more research and getting sick of HTC's crap I ended up taking the plunge. Haven't even opened the box yet. I'll spend the afternoon doing research on this site until I finally get to play with it after work.
First priority is to get it rooted and get CM7 installed.

[Q] A Second Phone

Hello,
I'll cut to the chase cause i have a tendency to drag out the tiniest detail for ages, and i just wanna ask this XD
Basically, i have a Galaxy S II, and i love it, i started hacking it around august after owning it since the UK launch. I like to see myself as fairly competant when it comes to NOT permabricking it, however i still am hesitant to flash new roms, kernels cause of lingering fears.
So! What i came here to ask, is i am planning to purchase a second phone just for this reason, and have been looking at the Nexus One, HTC Desire, and original Galaxy S. Sadly i dont know much about the hacking scene of every other phone, so i dont really know what other choices there are.
Basically, what phone would you reccomend, even if i havent mentioned it, to buy purely for the community behind it?
Thanks,
Katy
The HTC Vision (aka the T-Mobile G2/Desire Z) has a great community of developers, cookers, and users. I was hesitant to start flashing custom ROMs initially after rooting as well. So I went back and hacked my old Motorola Cliq to test things out. I promise you if you can read and follow directions you'll have no problems flashing ROMs... there's a great variety of ROMs for the Vision and I expect in the not too distant future we'll also see Ice Cream Sandwich.

I would beg to differ on the previous HTC comment. I have an Evo. It's getting up in age, but I love it. There are tons of roms available for it, and even though development has slowed, you'd still be surprised at the amount of development happening. If you're looking for a phone solely for playing with, you'd have plenty of options with the Evo. You can get one fairly cheap, especially if you opt for one with a bad ESN - which you might as well since you won't be activating it.
It's nearly impossible to brick - the only way you could would be to pull the battery during a radio update.
Of course which phone you get depends on your wants and needs. Check out the development subforums for the devices you have in mind.

Nexus one and evo is different. Doesn't like HTC due to not giving out updates that they promised. Eg: HTC flyer is still in GB. If you wanted a true unbrickable phone, get a developers' phone. Instant update and super extremely easy to unlock. And it is fit for every update to give you full user experience.

The HD2 is an option too. Getting seriously old (but that much as dual core has still to be really used by the OS) but it sill has a lot of development going on, kernel and ROM wise...MIUI, CM7, Sense, WP7 and WinMo etc.

Want your opinion please.

Hi gang!
I am currently a Moto guy and have been for years. However I have play with a few of HTC's android's and I must say I like he Sense.
I have really been thinking about trying to get an HTC (ReZound) but would like to list here my main usage of my phone and get some input as to what you all think I should do.
Phone Usage:
Photos: Personal (family) use of the phone but use it a lot and would like good quality images.
Audio: Enjoy listening to music on my phone from time to time.
Video: Do enjoy watching video's, as well as recording some every now and again.
Text: LOL Do a lot of this.
Reception: Need to have a really decent radio, hate being out and can't send or recieve a phone call or have it sound like you are under water or soemthing, so that brings me to...
Sound: Need a good earphone piece for the phone, needs to be clear / crisp.
Finally
Theme's and ROM's: From what I read it seems pretty easy to aquire those for the HTC (ReZound). I know you can get stock themes from the market and etc.
Any and all input would be appreciated.
Thanks, Slim!
Honestly man, the Rezound gets the job done no matter what you're doing. It's a really well rounded phone with little to no issues. There's plenty of modified Sense ROMS and AOSP is just around the corner and there was a recent price drop. You can't go wrong.
I came from the OG droid, and was all ready to get the GNex due to all the hype and ICS. After, reading more and comparing hardware and going to various forums. I heard of alot of initial problems with the GNex that some were having and decided to get the Rezound.
Figured, through Best Buy I had 30 days and once the Gnex was fixed i would swap . Well, it has been 36 days and I am still on the Rezound and haven't regretted it yet !
The Rezound is the best phone I've ever owned.
What's important to you?
I love my graphics and I love my Rezound. I played with the SGN for a bit but didn't feel right. It is nice that the SGN is getting so much love from devs but Beats/Video put the Rezound above the SGN imo. ICS Sense is so-so but that's because I prefer AOSP. Definitely not as many devs for this phone as the SGN but how many mods do you want for your phone? Not sad at all that I didn't get the Nexus. Good luck! Although, if you've held out this long, might as well hold out for the quad-cores. I think my next phone will be the next Nexus though.
SlimMan, I was also a "Motorola Guy". I started with an OG RAZR, then went to the Z6 ROKR, then the OG Droid, and finally VZW upgraded me to a Droid X so I'm very familiar with the Motorola devices.
I decided to go with the Rezound after hearing great feedback about HTC devices from a couple friends and am thrilled with the quality of this phone. It'll excel at everything you're intending to use it for and I encourage you to give the Rezound a chance. You won't be disappointed.
I appreciate all the replies, I am def. Keeping the Rezound in mind. Please feel free to continue feedback as any and all is appreciated.

I am the head of the cell phone dept where I work (186 phones) & get my phones free. I can have any phone I want & my personal phone is a Rezound.
IMHO, the Rezound at this point is hands down the best phone ever made. We have a few Galaxy Nexus phones on our account & I think that phone turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments in recent history.
I basically waited 6 months to buy the Nexus. When I finally got my hands on one, I used it for about a week & passed it on to a coworker. I was shocked that after all the hype & the release date being shoved back so many times that the Nexus turned out to be so much less than most people expected it to be.

Should I buy the amaze?

So I've been looking to buying an amaze for the last couple of weeks.
And in the past couple of days I'm having second thoughts.
The amaze still doesn't have s-off, and is lacking in devs. And even of of does get s off who's to says devs are going to buy it? With the HTC one coming.
So my question is, should I buy an Amaze now? Or go with a device with tons of development like the sensation?
Or, wait a little longer and get the One X or whatever it will be called for t mobile. Which will probably get s off pretty quickly with around 4 different versions right?
Any recommendations?
One thing to keep in consideration is that I will be paying full price for the phone. As $70 a month is a little steep right now, as I'm 17.

I love the Amaze. I think it is a great phone. But at this point I don't think I would choose the Amaze. Lack of development, no s-off, and dwindling interest and support would send me in another direction if I had to choose a phone today.
Having said that, I have no regrets and am still very happy with my choice.
The Amaze has great hardware, but its software counterpart is lacking. We don't have many devs for this phone, so if you're okay with not having a lot of ROMs to flash, then by all means get an Amaze
That's really the only reason why I'm having any second thoughts.
Coming from an HTC Incredible there has always been as many Roms as you wanted. Untilled recently everything is just perfect only ICS ports and CM7 are really active lately.
I really don't think think not having many Roms will be a problem... I don't think
The One S looks good but, I Honestly can't go without a spare battery. No sdcard I could get away with.
Thanks for your guy's input, I'll probably be buying one this weekend.
That being said... If anyone has an amaze they want to sell shoot me a message. I'm looking for around $400 + shipping on ebay.
I can't pay untill Saturday, so no rush.

wait for the new phones
honestly coming from the G2x i feel this phone is really solid, ive been running stock and i dont feel the urge to flash, it never heats up, sound quality is amazing on phone and music (imagine with beats audio) i can honestly compare it to my iphone 4 and say its a hell of a lot faster, and nicer. I love the screen on this 4.3 inch is amazing and good multitouch. THe only complaint i have is sometimes the screenbleed from the buttons can be a bit annoying but realy i dont notice it anymore. I get full 24 hour charge atleast so i like it
I came from the incredible also..plenty of roms. If you want a solid good phone then yes get the Amaze.
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using XDA
I came from the myTouch 4G which has all the development that you could ever want for a phone that was treated like a redheaded stepchild by T-Mobile. I decided on the Amaze after lurking in the development subforum and deciding on everything that I was going to do with this phone. When I saw that NRG brought Energy to the Amaze, I was sold. It didn't matter to me that it was only Sense 3.0 either. I was already subscribed to the Energy threads for the MT4G and the Sensation and it was exactly what I wanted for the Amaze.
If you are a flash-o-holic. no. wait for the one S. I mean i wouldn't be two concerend. HTC is well aware of how fast their phones die. I can't imagine that they wouldn't make a phone with terrible battery life and they not an option for a spare.
I came from the TP2 and nrgz had a ROM on that phone. By far my favorite I ran. I've already downloaded all of the files to root and flash the Amaze when I buy it.
And honestly, If the One series turns out to be as good as everyone is hyping about I can always sell the Amaze. Which is unlikely that I would.
I think the number of choices for the Amaze will be fine, I'm trying to find a ROM and stick with it.

Yes buy it
CM9 is being worked on and a few other developers are working on AOSP roms for our phone, sure it may take a while for them to be done, but progress is being made.

No more EVO.

Well I started out with the Og EVO when it first came out, then moved on to the EVO 3d, and had 2 EVOLTEs. But now I had to say good by to them. Ever since I've had both my EVOLTEs I had nothing but problems. Not getting calls and /or sms randomly, then the assortment of bugs with the Jelly Bean update and so on.
I know people will say the "if you rooted it" comment and yes my first EVOLTE was rooted but still had issues. Due to those issues I got a replacement EVOLTE and kept it stock. But still, I continued to have issue after issue with my second EVOLTE.
Additionally, we shouldn't have to root a $600 cell phone just to get it's basic functions to work properly. Also due to the EVO brand being a carrier specific phone, accessories are limited.
So I took my EVOLTE into Sprint and addressed my phones issues. After looking it over, they gave me the Galaxy S3. It should also be noted; the Sprint tech helping me; claimed Sprint HQ had told all Sprint stores to offer the Galaxy S3, as a replacement to the EVOLTE, due to the number of EVOLTEs being returned. (I have no idea if this is true).
Now I have the Galaxy S3, which is actually a very nice phone. Very, very smooth and responsive. You can definitely tell the difference between the 1gb of Ram in the EVOLTE to the 2gb of Ram in the Galaxy. And the best thing of all is now I get all my calls and sms, which proved it was an issue with the EVOLTE.
The funny thing is after owning the Samsung Instinct years ago, I swore I would never go back to Samsung. But they have definitely improved. Though the Galaxy is plastic it still feels pretty solid, but nothing beats that solid METAL feel of the EVOLTE.
Hopefully HTC gets their crap together and works out the bugs. The HTC Sence overlay seems to bogdown the android operation system. Again, one shouldn't have to root a $600 phone to get it to work right.
Also on a selfish stand point, it actually feels nice to have access to a large amount of accessories to compliment your phone, unlike most carrier specific brand phones.
So I'm saying good by to my fellow EVOLTE friends here in the XDA forum, it was fun debating, and patiently waiting for customs release dates, and Jelly Bean updates.

Probably going to return to best buy in favour of new htc phone

This phone is fantastic love the size love the hardware. But if the rumors about the htc also using an amoled screen I think ores worth the switch if it means I can have root. So I'm very much considering trading this phone in.
We don't know yet if the htc will actually have root or not. Nor do we really know anything about the htc phone yet.
Well looking at their previous history of giving an option to unlock the bootloader I don't see why they would decide to lock it out now

This. HTC isn't in a million years going to throw the one original card it has that keeps a core group of Android users buying their devices: if worse comes to worse, and you can't gain s-off through some exploit, there's always the comfort of knowing you can at least root the device using HTC's own software method. They went out of their way to provide that service: there's no way they'd willingly throw away a single customer by yanking it away now. EVERY customer counts for HTC; we're far more important right now to HTC than we are to any other company out there, especially Samsung. Those small groups of core customers are a big part of what's actually keeping HTC in business.
Edit: and yes, from my user tag, you can see I decided not to return my S7, in the slim hope that bootloader gets unlocked one day. But I was THIS close to returning it and waiting for the HTC 10; I've owned the OG EVO, the Evo 3D, the EVO 4G, the Flyer tablet, and the M7, and they've literally been my most favorite devices I've owned. Hell, once the 10 gets released, I could switch this S7 on Swappa in a second, so you all STILL might see me over in the HTC 10 forums very soon.
Peace and Love.

F*ck, it's only $21/month with no down for 24 months thru Sprint's latest deal, and that's to OWN the phone: it's not a lease: that's $504. You can't even buy it from HTC at that price.
Seriously thinking about just adding a line to get that awesome, ROOTABLE, FLASHABLE phone where the development support will be crazy good, because of the huge gap left by Samsung in the U.S.. It'd be less than a buck a day added, then I'd have the S7 AND the 10.
Seriously considering this.
