So right now I'm running CM7.1 nightly, and I'm in love with it. I went to UnNamed for about 2 hours a week ago, and I couldn't deal with the lack of customization. Now, this is my first android phone in a while, so I was still learning the new apps and tricks.
Now I realize I can change the lock screen using WidgetLocker. The stock lock screen is the MAIN reason why I'm not on a stock rom such as S8. I've heard nothing but great things about Mikey, and I really want to try out his rom.
So now that I know I can change my lockscreen (from the tacky and rather stupid looking stock, to a more customizable sophisticated one) I just want to know a few things.
Flashing Themes. In CM7, it uses it's own Theme engine and I can download themes from the market and flash em via the Theme Chooser App. For these stock themes, I have to download from a dev thread on here, or is there a "database" of themes?
CM7 I can customize the status bar to display The Full carrier name, wifi signal strength in dB or bars, etc. Can I do that with stock roms? How about Battery Percentage? I read that the circle percentage app/mod didn't work with S8. Is that true?
Finally, How is the battery life in S8 compared to CM7?
Thanks for your help guys.

Hi, long time lurker, new poster.
I couldn't find any info on the G-tab forums on this, so I figured I would ask:
I am just wondering if any of the devs have considered tweaking their Froyo ROMs to replicate the bottom status bar tweak found in CM7. There are a few Froyo ROM's over on the Nook Color forums where this has been implemented (i.e. Nookie-Comb or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999214).
It seems like a mod like this would include the best of both worlds; smooth flash and the bottom status bar tweak similar to CM7. Just curious if it has ever been considered? If a Froyo ROM implemented this, I would probably hop back on that because of the speed and smoothness, but honestly I'm jonesin for the tablet tweaks in CM7 (mainly, bottom status bar), making my ROM of choice a GB ROM with choppy flash.
Any thoughts? Please correct me if I'm out to lunch.
try downloading the new VTL Launcher by GoJimi...its pretty nice

I agree! I did ask this in the Vegan thread and have received no response on it yet.
rbansal2 - I already use VTL Launcher and it is great but I like the CM status bar along with it.
VTL makes for a better tablet experience that's for sure.
Having bottom status bar in Caulkin's ROM would be mighty fine though.
VTL + button savior is a good alternative for the time being..
i read that the status bar at the bottom causes issues with the keyboard. Thats why they dont do it.
I love to use modified script / tweaked ROM's because of the speed, snappiness & obviously because it's awesome to have devs we love that work hard to bring us something better than "stock."
However, I remember clearly (every time I flash a new ROM (no matter how impressive & beautiful they are) that one of the real selling points for me was definitely the Samsung Vibrant's original "stock" theme (TouchWiz, not stock Android).
As far as aesthetics, there are very few (primarily status bar png's) things I always mod (Pitch black status bar BG, Honeycomb Accurate Battery MOD, sometimes white TouchWiz 2.3.3 wifi icons, I use the fonts from d4a, TouchWiz 2.3.3 data icons (cleaner, but "feels" TouchWiz, & prefer the large button Swype (beta).
Otherwise, I LOVE TouchWiz, especially the Samsung app icons - even though I left the TWiz launcher long ago) and would really appreciate not necessarily all answers...perhaps just a point in the right direction?
If you feel you've wasted your time reading this, I apologize. No need in flaming though. Thanks to anyone willing to take a minute to help me learn more. I love this stuff. Currently my worst obsession.
On to my questions:
Instead of "morphing" things, I mod png's with drag & drop via 7zip, sometimes prior to flashing, sometimes not [1] Is one method better than the other? (Pull & push with Root Explorer)
I've never had a problem doing step one [2] (maybe because of rebooting after the push & by not exiting Root Explorer before the reboot?)
[3] Can I damage the file system, scripts or optimization tweaks by modding png's like this?
I'm cool with APK Manager, Photoshop, swapping/modding png's, but I'm not comfortable taking a chance on messing up my OS to do this [REQUEST] on my own...
[4] [REQUEST] Are the dev teams willing/able to release each ROM with a stock TouchWiz theme for their ROM, or is there an easy way for ME to do this (without screwing anything up)? I know how to MetaMorph, NinjaMorph, etc...but nothing much about development.
Right now I'm running the 04/14/11 Stock TouchWiz KB5 Deodexed Leak with Voodoo, and it is fast & quite impressive.
With KB5 modem, battery is great but data & phone signal are Edge/1 bar @ home. With KA6 or KA7 modem, decent battery, 3G & H @ home, with 3 to 4 bars!
[5] Can running a KA6 modem on a KB5 hurt anything?
I want to be on the Ported KB5 2.2.1 because I want the latest US version (less bugs in my experience), but in Stock TouchWiz.
I realized the port wasn't the Touch Wiz I was expecting, so I switched back to Stock 2.2 KB5.
[6] Can I flash EDT's 100% Stock 2.2.1 theme over the V4G's KB5 2.2.1 port, or will it change the ROM •besides its png's•?
I still don't understand how is it possible to use a theme that works for both Bionix & Trigger...it doesn't make sense to me. [6] Is it because the MetaMorph only affects aesthetics (drawable hdpi)?
And if so, [7] I should be able to Metamorph any 2.2.1 with it, right?
[8] It's easy to MetaMorph flying animations in Trigger, etc...but how do I do that with a Samsung Stock Deodexed ROM?
Thanks a lot. I hope my questions help more than just me!

Hello all! I recently rooted my Samsung Epic 4G Touch and installed PhantomHacker's Blazer ROM v3.5 and ran into some small appearance issues. It seems that everything has installed properly other than some of the visual elements (Unless qbking77 themed his ROM in his video and I missed him mentioning it). I have the proper boot and power off animations and I have the all the proper status bar icons. However, I am missing all the other things such as all of the altered icons, the pull down notification bar, and the messaging app. I've noticed it's all stock basically, other than the few things I mentioned. Any mistakes on my part? I hope there's an easy fix for this! Thanks in advance!
It's been pretty much stock themed for a while now, he's got a few themes for it, but its been a while since he's had the time to update them to the newer versions. If you check out the e4gt section, there are several compatible themes in the them section you can flash on it, or wait until PhantomHacker gets his fixed up.
So qbking77's video is of an older version of Blazer when it was themed? Thanks for the answer!
I am back to Speed Rom 8.0 and absolutely loves everything it has to offer. There are minor bugs which can be dealth with if you want a stable, fast and battery saving rom.
Only thing which annoyes me (not ROM itself) is transparent notification bar and status bars. How can I go back to default like in Sense 3.6?
Is it possible? I did search and didn't find anything useful. Its probbaly becasue everyone likes transparent but not my style
20+ views and no reply?
Well while playing around I found settings to change background to any image (my fav all black), its in app called Energy Tweaks installed with SpeedRom.

Your best bet would be rooting, using the Xposed Framework and something like the HK Theme Manager or Xtheme Engine to make significant changes to the look of the system. These tools work well on most devices, but it can be hard to theme stock HTC roms as they have a very different theming structure vs most devices and generic theming tools can only go so far. Other than that, best you could do without a rom (or root) would be a different launcher that either hides the status bar or comes with it's own (have only seen an iPhone looking launcher with that function) or hide the status bar and figure out how to make something like Zooper Widget to help create your own little section at the top for the clock and battery status - though this stuff would only work on the home screen.
If you REALLY want to change stuff, the best option is a rom and there's really not much getting around it without compromises.
