Right people.
After having my vega for a week nearly, and after being skint, Ive tried to reproduce somthing I once saw on a flight that some guy had his phone propped up in.
It may have already been posted as it is very simple? If it has, I apologize for reposting.
Method
First you need a good sized piece of firm cardboard, roughly 2 inches longer than A4 sized Id say.
I found that cereal box sides, were perfect, especially double layered.
once you have your piece of cardboard, or doubled-up-cereal-pack-board you need to trace this shape onto it:

}
Sorry it may seem a bit wonky, its not supposed to be, you get the idea of the shape from it. Make yours as neat and as symetrical as you wish.
Next, cut out and keep the area below the shape you drawn.
you should have this shape left:
Now you need to reinfoce all the edges, I used plain old cellotape, a few layers at least if you want it to last. Pay particular attention to the Hook areas as these take the brunt of the wear. See image below.
Now cover the thing in gaffer tape! I used it and it seemed perfect, pliable and strong. Other variations may be just as good if you dont have gaffer tape/duct tape. Mine looks like this, a bit rough I know, but it was the first one.
Your done! It is pretty self explanitory from here in. But just to complete this guide I will post visual instructions on how to use it with your tab.
1. Bend it.
2. Place the bottem edge of the tab into hooks.
3. Open it out a little and it should look like this,
Done.
My personal setup:
Thankyou if you took the time to read this.
If I could ask, would someone be able to post this link over at Modaco, Im not a member yet, and have used the site for the first few times this week, Id just like to try and give something back to the two sites that have hepled me in the past and more recently.
LONG LIVE XDA, LONG LIVE MODACO. Thanks evryone for all your help with android.
I have not seen this before. Could come in handy when out and about without the dock. This post has been well made, thats what i like to see . Thanks for the info.
Thank-you. And thank-you again as I do believe I'm using the Vega bootanimation you created? The Sega style one.

After looking arrounf the net for a good car holder for a while I've decided to make one myself. I was thinking about something not bulky, ability to securely hold the iMATE, integrated power connector, easy access, color match to my interior, and yeah, did I mentioned NOT BULKY?
So, I took my old car holder for my Sony Ericsson phone (RIP) Replaced the bottom connector with modified and hacked XDA2, painted front plate of the color to silver, attached to the back vent hooks from my another car holder for my iPAQ (RIP). I am pleased with the result Here are some pics of it. Lemme know whaddya think

Looks really neat ID64 I like the simple clean concepts with most of the XDA II exposed. Great stuff. I think you could also use a windscreen mount with the same setup.
I recently bought an integrated kit from Thailand for my unit but am waiting on my reloaction to Australia later this month before fitting it to whatever car I buy in Sydney.
Since you like tinkering in hardware, think you could do anything with this idea? http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8517&highlight=back
Ed
That sir is a bloody superb creation, small, neat and looks like it was designed for the XDAII
Fantastic job ID64, i have one of them brackets lying around somewhere and will give that a try too, but i dont think it will come out looking quite as professional as yours. What are weekends for? DIY. Dont think the wife is gonna be to pleased though, she wants me to decorate the bedroom. I dont think so!!!
Forget the holder, thats a nice car! VR6? What the dial next to the side mirror?
Anyway, will the holder keep the XDA tightly while going round the corner at 50 mph?
Forgot to say, dig the shades on the dashboard

Thanks This is Jetta/Bora 1.8T, Wolfsburg Edition. Dial you're reffering to is a boost gauge.

Havent measure it yet, but it's bloody fast with REVO chip, Magnaflow exhaust, Bailey DV, N75J, K&N drop in etc
I am afraid, that we are going to be flamed now for OT Let's move to VW forum on Vortex or www.club18t.com

Let me just add - great piece of work!
Surur
Saw this on Gizmondo, it's for a iPhone but don't see any reason why it wouldnt work for the G1
http://www.dessinemoiunobjet.com/iphone-and-itouch-paper-stand-dock/
As soon as I can get to a printer I'm going to try it out.
Use CARD not Paper though (despite what the title says)
nice!
the G1 might be a bit heavy but let us know how it goes, i wouldn't mind trying this either!
Will try on Saturday at the earliest, don't have access to a printer ATM.
I guess if its card it'll be ok
I've tried this for my G1 and I'm very pleased with it. Slight modification is needed as the G1 is a little thicker. All I did was widen the top of the 'T' shape that needs to be cut out by about 1/2cm and then it was perfect. I also cut out a little square underneath the dock to accommodate the charger lead.
I'm really happy with it! And I thought it was a tad ironic that I used the box from my Apple keyboard for the purpose - worked great!
I'm currently working on a modified template fitting the G1.
For the iPhone and iPod touch it looks awesome already.

Breen - Excellent work! will you be posting the modded version on here?
Here's a little photo of the modified dock. Note I've bent the back flaps a little bit as well as that seems to support the G1's weight better:

Finally got the bugger mounted on my 94 mecury sable.
I had to tear out my center console a bit to get at some bolts. I removed the cup holder/coin holder as well as the bottom slide out container with cigarette lighter.
I purchased A ram mount for the base and a ram cradle for the tablet.
Finally got the video up! please check it out and let me know what you think!

Dude, I like that! I think I will go this route. Being able to swivel like that is cool.
Good job, the RAM gear isn't cheap but it's quality.
So how'd the roadtrip work out? Any issues using the phone as a wifi router to update the GPS on the Tablet? I'm looking at doing a similar thing on my scooter...
Some might say distraction, I say a MUCH bigger screen to look at instead of trying to look at a small GPS screen for updates.
Thanks!
RWM
wow..really nice..great job and even better job posting videos..
would you mind giving us the pn of the ram mount and cradle?
also does the cradle claw thingy have rubber or something..since its right up against the tablet i'm wondering about scratching the side of it..
thanks for the post.

You can actually just go to the website and it will find it for you but here is the pn's:
Cradle: RAM-234-6
Mount: RAM-B-101U-C
It comes with 4 different types of clips. The ones I am using have rubber covers over them. You don't have to use them, they are optional but obviously, use them. I use two long holders for the bottom and two short on the bottom. but because the cover don't go in all the way on the short grips, I just cut them.
Works great! There is a little play but thats because I move it around a lot. But I love the GPS on it now and music. Although more of a distraction, its worth it
doubt
Hi. I'm a portuguese guy and don't wonderstand very well your apresentation. I have a jeep and due to the ups and downs of walking on the hill, I love the support. I do not understand very well how to assemble it or where to buy the parts I need. If you give me some more tips, thanked immense.
Next wee, my g/f and I will take a little car drive vacation. We'll be visiting landmarks from Chicago to Kentucky to Virginia to DC and back. So, earlier today, I got a brilliant idea for a car mount that will enable me to use a 10 inch gps. Well, as soon as I got out, I went straight to a hardware store and got the parts. I use the top part of the following car mount and incorporated it into my set up.
http://www.buyincoins.com/details/n...r-cradle-mount-for-ipad-gps-product-2492.html
Here are some pictures. I test already test drove around. Absolutely no obstruction of view whatsoever. Also does not obstruct my radio and other stuff there.
Total cost for parts = $11.

Very cool. Any plans on wrapping something around the silver metal, or painting it black or grey?

Love the finished product, but not so keen on the whole drilling holes into your dash.

Hahahaha. I'm not an idiot. I actually openned up my car and checked. There's absolutely nothing underneathe there. It is also not in the way of the airbag.
I highly recommend against anyone doing it. The holes can be covered up pretty darn easily. I'm also one who's loyal to my car(s) so I don't usually trade them in for newer ones often. I drive them til they drop dead.
The point is it looks scary to most people because it is.
By the way, here's a sample video of what I used it for.
Documented my entire trip to DC.

Already did. I'll take a picture of it in the morning. It looks professional now that I've wrapped it in black electrical tape. I've also modified the whole thing to make it look more blended in with the dash.
Already posted somewhere in the end of a long thread but thought it needed a post of its' own.

P.s. My 2 cents on the whole matter, I think HC was rushed in order to launch with crappy drivers etc. Fingers crossed for ICS!
Cheers!
Well, I see stereo speakers.
Looks like they had to break the bottom inside to open the tablet. Look there on the botton.

There are four black holders each held in by a single screw. I don't know how you would open it without breaking it.

Sounded too spacial to me to not have something going on...
>There are four black holders each held in by a single screw. I don't know how you would open it without breaking it.
Looks like the two (not four) slider clips are designed to break off the mushroom heads upon opening, which would be for anti-tempering. Assuming they aren't screwed down tight, I suppose you can slip in a small pick to push the clips to the right to disengage.
Anyway, you don't actually need them. The text says the bottom is held together by adhesive. The plastic clips on the top & sides are sturdy enough to hold the halves, as long as the bottom doesn't move around.
Would be nice to see a complete disassembly to see how it's assembled. Although the problem with complete teardowns is that it's usually a one-way street.
Gak, just noticed the dual speakers were CLEARLY mentioned already. Yeesh.
