I know there are a number of "Debranding" threads but I really don't want to brick my SGS2. I've not quite had my SGS2 for a week but am guessing I have an old firmware which is Vodafone branded, I want to debrand my SGS2 so I can get more recent updates but this is all new to me. I'm not new to Android as I had a Rooted and BL unlocked SE X10i but it's the differences in firmware etc of the SGS2 which confuses me.
This is my "About phone" info:
Model number
GT-I9100
Android version
2.3.3
Baseband version
I9100BUKG1
Kernel version
[email protected] #2
Build number
GINGERBREAD.BUKG2
Am I right in saying this is older firmware and if I flash it with Odin it will debrand my SGS2 and will I be able to get further updates either via OTA or Kies, is the above quoted firmware correct or should I use another??
Thanks for any help, Jason.

Anybody, please??

Root the phone using CF Root and then flash one of the many custom ROMS available, i recommend 'CheckROM Revolution'.

Thanks for the reply fella, I might try a custom ROM at a later date as it's all I used in my Xperia X10i but for now I want to keep my SGS2 stock.
I have flashed a stock ROM.
PDA: I9100XWKI4
PHONE: I9100XXKI4
CSC: I9100XEUKH2
Now when I connect to Kies it says "Unable to update this version" and under CSC it says I9100XEUKH2(VOD) which I'm assuming means vodafone?
I even flashed a generic XEUKH2 CSC package hoping it would remove the VOD and Kies would be able to update my phone, still the same though.
Any advice please??

So after more reading I think I've found the issue, it's my SGS2's product code? (I9100LKAVOD)
Pretty sure I know the answer to this but is there any way to change the product code??

To change csc type *#272*IMEI# and it should allow you choose csc, please note this will wipe your phone, not 100% sure but I think it wipes your storage aswell so please check and back everything up

Thanks but will this remove the VOD product code so I can update via Kies??

Solved it, once the ROM had been flashed with Odin you need to do a factory reset via recovery!
I'm now running XEU CSC and Kies recognises my phone and now does not say "cannot be updated".
WARNING- A FACTORY RESET WILL WIPE ALL USER DATA, BACK UP OR DO A NANDROID BACK UP. I did an advanced data restore via CWM, worked like a charm.

Don't know why you unbranded, vodafone has the latest updated before unbranded phones, xeu is still waiting for 2.3.5

Not when I started this thread, I was on 2.3.3 and no update available. I'm happy with a debranded/unbranded phone, am running 2.3.4 atm and I'm sure Sammy will release 2.3.5 soon and if not I can either flash a Vodafone branded ROM or a Frankenstein ROM.
Typical though, I solve this and Vodafone comethrough. Sods law!! lol

But it will erase all your data, right?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
No, it shouldn't. But I believe the update is for UK handsets only. Can't swear to it, but worth checking
Thank you will try odin. Since this is my fist android phone i didn't want to mess around much. But will try
Ok it shouldn't but you do have to make a factory reset in order to get the XEU CSC working and that will wipe your phone, won't it?
just bothering with that because without root there is no backup and kies is too stupid to have a simple button that says "backup"
Factory reset wipes your data, you for XEU CSC in above referred thread

[Q] Installing Stock Samsung Firmware on phone with 3 UK Firmware

Hi there, hope I could have a moment of your time.
I am hoping to upgrade from 3 UK 2.3.3 to Samsung Stock 2.3.4, here is my current information:
PDA: I9100 XWKF4
Phone: I9100 NEKF2
CSC: I9100 H3GKF1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF4-CL280512 [email protected] #2
Network Information: Pay Monthly 3 UK, but Unlocked
Is it possible to do this and still have a fully functioning phone, and if so which, PDA, Phone and CSC files do I require?
P.S. I have both ODIN and Kies installed and phone is currently rooted. I have attached two images with all relevant information to this message.
If your phones rooted, just grab a CWM flashable zip, boot into recovery and flash from there.

sorry but what does this mean? Can I not just flash a firmware using odin?
Everything you need to know is here
Go for KG6 or KH3 as they are the newer 2.3.4 roms and known to work/be good.
You may have to manually enter your APN settings, from here

[Q] Galaxy S II Firmware Upgrade 2.3.4 Help!

I have been researching the net on this and the posts in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
I haven't been able to post in there as I am a new user, but if someone can help me with this, it would be great.
I'm trying to upgrade my firmware to XXKH3 - Android 2.3.4.
My current version is:
PDA: I91000XWKE7
PHONE: I9100XXKE4
CSC: I9100OPSKE4
My Galaxy S II is rooted and it's on the OPTUS network in Australia.
My question is, how should I go about it?
Do I download the XXKH3 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/C4DRUIJTLL and place that in PDA and PHONE in Odin?
And for CSC do I get this: Optus OPSKG1 CSC: http://www.multiupload.com/EPWZTIMS1F and place it in CSC?
I want to be able to use the OPTUS network on XXKH3, but without OPTUS bloatware. I'm just not sure which files to get so I can be with OPTUS on an Australian firmware if that makes any sense.
My last question is, would this then wipe my data? Or not?
I appreciate any help on this.

you are referring to the right thread. clear instructions are given on that thread.
choose the PDA option.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.
You don't have to change the kernel or root or unroot to flash a new stock firmware.
You can then flash the kernel of your choice.
If you want the CF-root KH3 kernel. refer this thread
If you want to flash stock KH3 kernel you can also do that.
as far as operator bloatware is concerned search for operator specific bloatware removal scripts which can be executed using Gscript app . or a simpler option would be to freeze or uninstall the bloatware apps using Titanium back up Pro.
Thank you for the fast reply.
So pretty much all I need to do is put the XXKH3 Stock Kernel in the PDA option and that's it. So the OPTUS network will not be affected correct?
Then root it and I'm done?
Thanks again!

Should I back up?

Alright will do. Thanks for all your help guys!
let me know how you get on,am severely tempted to flash new firmware just for a change!
Hm. I just put XXKH3 Stock Kernel in PDA and flashed it but my phone still says Android 2.3.3. I used the CF-root KH3 kernel as well to root it again.
What do I need to do to get it to Android 2.3.4? Do I have to place it in PHONE as well?
The ROM is 2.3.4, just about any ROM in original development is. What you are trying to flash is kernel. Best of luck.

Er, Kernel is kernel and firmware is firmware. Flashing the kernel won't update the firmware, just the kernel.
Alright I think I understand now.
Downloading the package, which should do it and I guess the stock kernel is used to root/rid yourself of the yellow triangle.

It went well, the phone is working great.
My data didn't get wiped.
Follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
Download the XXKH3 package.
I also used Titanium to backup my apps just in case and MyBackup Pro for contacts etc. but haven't needed to use it.
After you flash that (if you want to root the phone) go to this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and get CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH3-v4.1-CWM4.zip. Put that in PDA and flash it.
To get rid of the yellow triangle, follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14283369&postcount=2.
That's it. Thanks for all your help guys!
ok so lets say I chose new stock firmware to avoid the triangle, then later wanted to be official, could i plug my phone into kies and updatd to official 2.3.4 without problems?
i would like to try oranges firmware without rooting the device and voiding my warranty!

[Q] Galaxy S 2 ROM and Root

Hello All Together.
I've been unlucky enough to get 2.3.6 update on my galaxy S 2, I would like to put ice cream on it, the Offical release. I do not receive anything if I can update it. But to have a European ROM on it. Here's how it says when you go into the "about phone"
Android: 2.3.6
The baseband version: I9100XXKI4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWLA4-CL900411
Build number: Gingerbread.XWLA4
Hope there are some who can help me when my phone rebooted all the time.
Type *#272*Device IMEI# at phone dial, and change csc to Xeo(for Europe ). Watch out! It will do a factory reset of your phone!
After, you will get official update.

It says sales code DBT, I can press the Install or Cancel?
and I say install it says Must be THREE chars. ? :-(
Choose the right one for your region. DBT is for Germany I supose. Remember that it will wipe out your data, but you will be eligable to update rom through kies.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I can not pick anyone other than DBT it says must be three chars, but it is 3 characters?
Yup three chars only. Here you can find some csc codes:
http://devsrom4android.blogspot.com/2011/10/samsung-galaxy-s2-firmware-updates-via.html?m=1
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
but it say "Must be three chars" no matter what I write in the box :-(? Should roote phone to do it?
Do you have multi csc package installed? Or ics update is not yet applied in your country..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
No, I do not think I have. I am from Denmark. But my phone is parrallel imported :-(
Simple
ICS official update for your phone will arrive via KIES .
Other route is to flash a stock ICS rom from the thread in general section .
jje
Kies said there is no update, wants an official ROM of ICS. But how Rooter my phone? and how do I find out which ROM I need one?
Check out sgs2 development forum. There you have a plenty of custom roms or stock. Just flash it. Custom roms are already rooted.
Information how you can root your phone, you can find also there.
You can flash whatever rom you want to (dedicated for your model of course).
Greets.

[Q] Need help with updating S3 to 4.1.2

Hello everyone,
First, I realize this is a noobish issue but after searching the forum, the amount of guides made my head spin, plus I wasn't sure how to proceed with Odin, kernel, base, build, model, choosing the correct files, etc.. so please bare with me.
My device info:
GT-I9300
4.0.4
Baseband: I9300BVLF2
Kernel: 3.0.15-687481-user
[email protected]#1
Build: IMM76D.I9300BVALF4
Version:
AP: I9300BVALF4
CP: I9300BVLF2
CSC: FTMALF4
Haven't changed anything. No root, flash, anything. I got the phone a few months ago and haven't changed a thing, other than installing apps.
I wanted to update my phone for a while but decided to wait for the 4.1.2 update. I don't want to root, just to update. Kies has been a pain ever since my S1, always has problems connecting the phone, doing backup, so I decided to try Odin and update manually.
A few questing;
1. How do I know what firmware to download now and in the future?
2. Does every update wipe the phone?
3. What backing up software should I use that can backup everything the Kies backs up (from setting to sms and apps..)?
4. I downloaded Odin 3.0.4. Is there a better version?
Thank you very much
Use Samsung kies update, no need worry

Well I had only bad experiences with Kies. With my S1 it simply wouldn't recognize my device. Now, with my S3, I was able to backup once and since then every time I try to backup it gets stuck on preparing. Not sure I should trust it for firmware updates.
That said, if I do try, what software should I use for backup, since Kies is on strike.
Thanks again.
