Hello!
I installed CM on my Galaxy Ace, also used a kernel that allowed me to overlock the phone. So I overclocked to 940MHz from the stock 800Mhz.. all was working fine, untill this morning. I woke up and the phone was turned off. I thought my battery has discharged during the night, so I put the phone on charge, and trided to boot it. Samsung Galaxy Ace logo appeared, but it got stuck there... Tried to boot to recovery menu, as I always do, but it doesnt work! I thought something must went wrong so decided to reinstall new firmware through ODIN. Everything seemed to be fine - ODIN recognized the phone, so I flashed succesfully my Galaxy Ace with new firmware.. Then, when It was supposed to reboot itsef, it didnt. It got stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Ace logo, and thats all... I tried pull the battery out, to charge it even more, but nothing... Tried various firmwares, but no luck.
So, my phone will go into downlaod mode, but not to recovery mode anymore. It won't boot up, it shows only the screen with Samsung Galaxy Ace logo... nothing more.
What could have happened? What to do?
Consegregate warned against frequencies higher than 921Mhz .
The phone must've bootlooped the whole night .

Excuse me, you mean I have bricked my phone by overclocking it that high? I thought It would restart it self, or hang up at most, but It actually worked for few hours. Than it turned off by itself. So I thought flashing new firmware with odin (which actually worked) would repair the problem?
Anyone?
u can install qtadb on ur pc/laptop, run it, plug in ur ace and boot it, then look at the logcat provided by qtadb.
btw maybe u fried ur cpu afterall
You wont believe.. I was flashing 2.3.3 firmware through odin, and after a "succesfull" flashing the phone wouldnt boot up - stuck on samsung galaxy ace logo. tried many 2.3.3 firmwares.
My last try was installing 2.3.4 firmware - it booted...
solved...

reflash modem via odin.
That was because you flashed a one package firmware and it didn't reformat the data partition to rfs, so it didn't boot.
And about the overnight mystery brick it shouldn't be happening. You need to check your bedroom for demons.
Hey everyone,
I figured out that I lost my EFS folder.. no imei....
Is there any chance to get it back? Do i have to visit a samsung centre for repair?
It seems as if someone took your phone at night and then bricked it.

Lmfao for demons? But who knows, isn't it possible that the phone had a process crash or something and rebooted and got stuck there? I know because that happens on my Ace sometimes. The rebooting I mean. It reboots by itself while I'm using it but that's about it and then it goes back to normal.
Okay guys,
but what to do now, when I don't have my IMEI (= I cant use my phone to call).. ?

Send it to Samsung for repair
Do you think wouldn't be it faster to show the phone to a "non-official-gsm-point"? There are many places where they sell/buy/repair phones. I know they will charge me (but not as much as samsung care for sure) and there is possibility to get the phone repaired on the moment.

Just wondering have you tried updating samsung drivers on PC? Possible drivers are corrupted - worth a shot. Then try battery out hold buttons battery in method.
But JTAG is too difficult to use and expensive.

I understand what you're asking but i'm asking what you touched. Is it either the boot animation or bootlogo sheesh. have you tried this? Home + Volume Down + Volume Up + Power
Even recovery mode not working? Try battery out-in method and try for recovery, ignore download mode for a while. If successful then use ADB and go to download mode.
problem: I can only download mode. and always stuck in the process of ODIN. (soft brick)
finally take it to the SSC, but they gave up and ordered the engine change
I was curious because Ace has not totally dead.
I tried to reinstall Kies + try switching usb ports, up to 2 days I tried and finally succeeded. there seems to be a problem on my Ace. because it can fill the battery but could not usb storage. so sometimes the usb storage. now I do not dare to Clean ROM or flash the stock ROM, later stuck again .... hehehe
Well, I installed CM7.2 last night (successfully). Today i tried to reflash a stock rom with Odin, but finally I've got a nice bootloop. So i reinstalled the CWM with the factory recovery, and restored my CM backup.
I think to revert the phone to stock firmware is not possible atm.

As long as you can acquire the download mode, you can bring back your phone.
Odin will flash the stock boot and recovery partitions (along with others), and from the stock recovery you can restore the phone to your previous state.
In my case: I wanted to reflash the stock rom (was using cm7). After some forum reading, the solution was easy: since all custom kernels (including Cm7) using the more advanced Ext4 FS instead of the VFAT based RFS (stock roms), I restored my CM7 rom, downloaded the Ext4 Manger.apk from XDA (search for it), convert all partitions to RFS, then ODIN successfully flashed the stock rom.
Hope it helps someone.
Hello everyone,
Hoping you can help me before my mrs cuts my nuts off. She asked me to update her GS2 (GT-I9100 on 02) and completly wipe the phone as she has had random apps appear etc etc.
I said that wouldnt be a problem as ive done alot on my GS3, though i am still pretty new to the Android scene (Previously iPhone).
So she was on Stock 4.0.4 XXLQ6 firmware.
I followed the guide to root from here as i was aware of the hardbrick bug in this firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
After that it was time for the Wipe data etc and flash the new rom. I chose JELLYBAM as its Android 4.2 with a mix of other things. Sounded perfect.
I followed all the steps EXACTLY from the Devs page:
http://www.igio90.net/how-to-install/
All seemed to be going well at first, got to select afew options etc. Then it said it was Extracting the package...This is were the problems started.
It was stuck at 2% for AGES, then out of the blue the screen just went BLACK/BLANK......Hmmmm i thought!
I have since been trying to source info from everywere about how to turn the phone back on but having no luck at all. I have tried all the Soft/Hard boot methods, ive left it on charge (Yes it gets hot near the camera) and tried all boot methods whilst plugged into laptop with ODIN loaded up.
Nothing seems to be working.
Any help what so ever will be much appreciated. This device was never previously rooted. Im gutted a it was all going so well...I shoulda guessed something would go wrong.

Thank you for your reply, Unfortunatly i cannot enter any mode what so ever. The phone is literally dead...yet getting VERY hot as its plugged in.
Was thinking about taking it in to O2 2mora and seeing what they can do. Damn.
If your still under warranty you should get a new motherboard. They won't be able to tell you've rooted it since it seems hard bricked.
Next time, get a custom kernel on it a.s.a.p and backup efs and make a nand backup before you start flashing roms.
Either that or stay away from 4.0.4 stock.

JIG & JTAG....will these help solve my problem? Not really clued up on them though i have done a brief look around. JTAG services is not in my area.
NO, on hardbricked S2 JIG/JTAG won't be useful. You can check my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242 for more info.
PS : the direct signs of this kind of hardbrick is a totally dead phone & back side getting hot (near the camera lens)

if your s2 is still under warranty, just take it to the reapir service and tell them that the phone was on charge all night and didn't wake up in the morning
they won't be able to know what you did to it since it's completely unaccessible. If you successfully convince them, they'll change the motherboard !
PS : That isn't my idea but from what I saw in the hardbrick warning thread, most of the concerned people did the same trick ...

Please be more specific if you expect anybody to bother to help you.
When you say "can't really do anything" that doesnt tell us what you have tried and not tried!
1) Can you enter recovery mode?
2) Can you enter download mode?
3) Have you tried a USB Jig?
4) Have you removed battery for 30 mins?
5) What happens when you power on phone?

2) Yes
3) trying to find now what it is
4) For 30 mins no, for few minutes - yes
5) It starts and then i got some errors memo.process, process.acore and few others (can't remember now). I can get email, explore through home screens and menus, but can't call, receive calls, write messages, look up contacts or memos and stuff only going through screens. Maybe I could do a hard reset or wipe the phone, but then won't i brick my phone?
EDIT: As user Pilaf suggested (thanking him a lot!) I installed a new siyha kernel then did a full wipe / factory reset, seems everything is backing up from google account and phone is working..

as you can go into download mode but not recovery, what about flashing CWM another time (if you did not try it already). Maybe it solves the issue with recovery and from there you could go on trying to wipe etc.
Other options would be to do a mega or super wipe (if this is possible from odin & download mode, not sure though), to get your phone completely empty (mega) or at least to factory reset (super).

The thing is there is nothing wrong with my phone in terms of hardware. The problem that I am having is purely software, I think I just need to restore my phone to a previous version. So I went into CWM (after flashing it) Wiped and factory reset (noticing it said error mounting /data but ignored) and then restored with a backup I had. it did say error mounting /data and so skipped that step. Still stuck in boot loop. now that I try wiping again the same error occurs, error mounting /data any ideas please?
I did have this problem a few days back. The only thing i did was downloaded my Carrier stock firmwaer and extracted boot.img and used Samsung galaxy toolkit and make a filé that i was able to use with Odin. Dunno if ot helps you but my Phone is still going strong
I was only trying to root my Phone tho. No custom rom installera when i got The boot problem
Sounds like you have permission problem. I can't find the three about that but I update my post here if I can find it.
you can try to fix permission in cwm it seems, hope it works

I had just flashed my phone to CF-Root 5.6. It all went very well, took about 8 seconds, and it rebootet normally.
Then my plan was to update to JELLYBAM - v5.1.0.
I copied the .zip file into the SD card, and entered recovery mode.
I Wiped the data/cache, and installed it.
In the middle of the installation, all of sudden, the phone went black.
I tried to turn it on, put out and in the battery, enter recovery mode and download mode and connect it to the pc. Nothing worked.
I can't get any picture on the phone anymore, and i really need help with this. I have tried everything that i know about.. :crying:
How do i fix this??

Hey the exact same thing happened to me yesterday, and I was also installing JellyBam. I followed the exact same steps as you and my phone also went black during installation and is now hard bricked and needs to be JTAG repaired in order to work.
Looks like you guys have encountered phonus brickedus
This happened to me too, yesterday. There are lots of threads that discuss these things. If you cant access anything you can try a jig. (look it up)
I, however, tried jig and JTAG but no solutions found so i sent it to service center. Now i just pray to god that they don't find out that my phone's rooted (which makes my warranty vioded).
As far as my expertise says, if you cant find a Jig or JTAG solution, send it to service. When my phone arrives (if it does) i can tell you if they knew that i had rooted or not.
Regards.
PS. Did you follow it's flashing steps carefully?

If Jtag couldn't bring it back to life, they won't know, don't worry

Yes. I followed them very carefully. Did everything that i was supposed to do..
Could it be a bug in the kernel?

What diff does that make? He was on custom kernel not stock.
Did you guys have at least 55% battery? On some occasions flashing roms can use allot of processing power and drain unusual amounts of battery. For example sometimes I have been on full battery, flashed a rom and its used 40% so if you guys was on low battery it could have died and screwed up your rom, kernel or worse your bootloader resulting in brick.
Sure that custom kernel was safe atheist?
Sounds like emmc to me.....

I also don't think it was the bug as the phone died while flashing the rom, not during the wipe. Perhaps it was a bad download or a link that took users to a rom for the wrong model of phone. Hopefully every user effected will get there phone repaired.
