Increase stored SMS limit? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to know if anyone has found a way to increase the stored message limit from the max of 1000? I have a few contacts that I need to keep more then 1000 for quick access.. My old Captivate could disable it entirely.. I'm wondering if there is a DB setting i could change to disable it as the stock app doesn't have the option on it.
Any help is appreciated.
P.S.
please don't post saying/asking "why on earth would you want to do that" these posts are not necessary.
Thanks

I use Go SMS Pro and currently have over 3k messages stored (as backup files) and about 2k in my inbox atm.

There are many apps that will back up SMS also.

I'm not keen on relying on backups to achieve this, I always find them hard to access. When you say over 2k messages in your inbox, are you saying from 1 person, or combined?
I tried it and I still have messages deleting.

SMS storage?

Hey gentlemen and ladies, was just wondering if you I could get an opinion on something.
I update my rom every now and again, which means I do a full wipe and reload all of my texts and contacts using my backup pro. However, I've had this phone for about a year now, and now have roughly 10,000 texts which just take too long to be added back to the phone.
Was just wondering is there was a decent program I could store them on windows? or on gmail? or even online somewhere? Thanks guys
Maybe you can try SMS Backup and Restore, which saves all of your SMSs in a single XML file.

Try SMS Backup + by Jan Berkel .. app that syncs and restore your sms to gmail (at least thats what I use it for).. Stores it thread style in a label on gmail and resyncs when you flash.. pretty quick to restore as well..

that sounds good.. i think ill look into it
after i added all 10,000 messages back on to the phone, i think it actually decreased in speed.. or is it just me? can a large amount of messages slow down the phone?
Yes I seem to find that problem as well.. speed restored when I clear all messages.. but using gmail to sort through is a lot easier

Texts keep getting deleted..

I've already searched don't worry, but my case seems quite unique. I have well over 10,000 texts which I recently backed up before flashing a new rom, and use SMS Backup and Restore to put them back on.
However.. every now and again, the threats with well over 1000 texts simply get reduced to 200, and I can't find the problem. It's getting annoying as I have to keep restoring my old texts. Any help out there? Cheers.
Double posted .. see below with a nice title for the setting that should be disabled in the default messaging app
Delete old messages .. 200 limit per conversation

Well if you go to the default messaging application's settings menu (this is in froyo i assume), there a setting to delete old messages as the text message limit is reached. Disable this before applying the update and should be good?

SMS and MMS

Hi guys
does anyone know some kind of program that would export SMS and MMS to excel format?
Do you want the header data or ALL data? In other words do you want the Who, Date/Time, and the contents of the text, or do you just want the Who/date/time info.
who/date/time/sms or mms
Ok so not terribly concerned with the contents of the text just that one was sent/received and if it was sms/mms right....
Let me do some looking/thinking...
I hope you know some useful software .
Not sure if direct linking is allowed so just fix the spaces I entered below or do a market search for any kind of sms/mms backup. I listed a couple I have used or know of.
SMS Backup +
sms backup & restore
I've not looked at this one but try it it looks like it will do exactly what you want..
w w w.androidzoom. com/android_applications/tools/excel-backup_muxu_download.html
I have used this one and did not even know you could read the backup data in excel.. WOW Learned something new!
h t t p s://market.android. com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
I am looking into my gmail account to see if the data backed up to it can be exported/imported to excel format since I have 3+ years worth of texts stored there form the backup programs. If we could run the program and then simply take the data directly from our gmail label that would be nice.
Ye i was thinking about excel backup too but i couldn't find it for free anywhere :/.
So no one know of one program that can save mms and sms threads?
What a **** os. Even Nokia has this omg.

SMS Lag

Did search and found this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306465&highlight=sms+lag
I think its one of my threads that have 5k messages, which is what is lagging me.
Rather not delete it and I do have SMS Backup but it does not save MMS (i think).
And more than often I look back at it using the search so I really rather keep it there.
Anyone know why its lagging or found a way to prevent it from going so slow?
Maybe modding a load previous messages according to date?
Sometimes it takes like 10-15 seconds to go back to home and 5 seconds to send a message.
PS. I rather not use gosms, I have tried it before and did not like it too much.
i prefer to use SMS Backup+, it will backup everything to your gmail account, including MMS. it cant restore MMS yet, but i dont care, since its all filed away nice and neatly in my gmail.

I'll give it a try but still looking for another solution so I don't have to delete them.

[Q] SMS Backup & Restore

Hey folks.
I recently discovered a great app named "SMS Backup & Restore" which I now happen to be the owner of the PRO version. Things is, that the backup works fine, but upon restoring, messages seem to get restore the wrong order - most of the messages are in the same thread, but completely mixed up. And I don't miss a few, I miss a lot.
The FAQ of the developer says that osme SMS cannot be backed up nor restored since it currently does not support MMS messages. But I'm extremely sure that most messages are just SMS. Did such happen to any of you, too? How to resolve this? And could that be dou to the use of GoSMS Pro which I use as my phone messaging app?
Any help is very much appreciated.

That is the only app I use for sms backup & restore since I have android phone. Never had any problems, except when on restore, threads (not messages) are not sorted in order in which I backed them up. Ofc, I just sort them by "most recent" in messages app. I used Handcent sometimes, but never had problems with dissapearing messages. Backup app and messaging app use xml, which is stored on phone, so I don't think it matters which one messaging app you use.

Thanks for helping, PROleev. Is there a way to clean up the XML-File I have? It contains multiple messages and upon restoring, it does not delete the duplicates although I enabled the option in the program. Furthermore, it seems that it saved messages with the completely wrong time. Therefore, restoring the messages results in a mess I don't know how to resolve.. except for to delete everything.

You're welcome.
Here is the app for duplicate messages, and it should help you (I didn't try it, but users say that it does its job). It is slow if you have a couple of thousands messages. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10377014&postcount=1
I have to make a correction..mesagge applications read from data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db (database file), but they save messages as .xml which you can open in any xml viewer or MS Excel..
