So my SGSII International (yes I'm on ATT) has been working fine for the last two weeks. But last night, after flashing from CM7 to Sensation, my phone lost all service. As in no reception nor internet. I have already flash an old backup, flashed back to stock, and delete my efs folder through ODIN, yet the problem persist. Any help on this?
Have you checked your SIM card?
Yes. I placed my SIM card in my old Captivate and I had full service.
First time I read something like this!
Did you wipe your phone before flashing again?
Deleted efs folder? Why?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I just had the same problem. I flashed several roms without success until I reinstalled a CM7 backup. I guess I'm sticking to CM for awhile.
What about your IMEI or efs folder? Are they still how they should be?
Type *#06# to check your IMEI number.

So is everything back to normal or are you still having issues?
Issues still remain. Using my Captivate at the moment.

Ok. So what is your IMEI and baseband? Is your IMEI correct and the the baseband is shown?
You can check this under settings - status or dial *#06#.
What files are in your /efs folder?
What files are in your backed up /efs folder?
What are the dates of these files?
Did you restore efs folder with the correct permissions? A simple drag and drop wont work. Does your imei number display when *#06# is entered
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
My IMEI and Baseband both says unknown. And if I recall correctly, the date is 10/03, the day I got the phone. I don't have my SGSII on me so I don't remember the content.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Ok. So copy the old .nv_data.bak and .nv_data.bak.md5 in your efs folder. Delete everything else in there an change the .bak to nv_data.bin or .bin.md5
then open in your backup folder the file mps_code.dat open it and see whether the code in it is the same as you csc. If not change out to match your csc. Then copy the mps file in your almost empty efs folder and reboot.
I hope that works.

Thanks for the advice. However, Root Explorer doesn't allow me the change the setting to R/W so I can't do it on my phone. Is there anyway to do it using ADB?
I have the same problem, but I haven't changed anything on my phone.
The battery emptied last evening, and I managed to use a power connection on the trainstation to load up my phone, as I had to make some calls.
But suddenly it just says No Service, and I tried to look for my IMEI number with *#06# but I only get a blank box with IMEI:
Dont really know what to do next.
Also, the battery usage have gone crazy. My battery lasts about 4 hour - with no usage at all.
Edit: Nevermind, I just flashed CM7 and it all went back to normal.

You can easily do the copying of the files in an adb shell.
Try to unmount and remount your efs folder.
Have a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261948&highlight=imei
And if this does not work reflash your original stock rom with correct csc and try the steps again.
Thank you SO much. The link you gave me helped save my phone. Although I did lose all of my files in my internal SD, it was worth it.

Hi,
I've flashed my Galaxy ACE a few times and now i realized that when i try to see my IMEI it gives me 0000000000000000.
I've tried to look for /efs folder and the nv_data.bin file but they don't exist.
Is there anyway to recover/generate this file? I have no backups

What is weird is that i can still make calls and sms.
I only noticed that i had no IMEI because Viber became deactivated all the time, and i checked their foruns and saw that this behaviour was due to no IMEI.
Maybe it's better send your phone to tech.
Try to either remove the sim card or turn on the airplane mode.
I've burnt a sim card by flashin with odin. IMEI did show up if the above procedure was done.

LOL is this a troll post?
Nothing you can do about lost IMEI. There's someone who managed to copy it between phones but then that makes his phone have another phone's imei so I guess it's not a good solution.
Return for warranty!
Can someone tell me if the /efs folder in Galaxy ACE is a partition mounted on /efs or a folder created on the / filesystem?
Also can someone provide me a zip with the contents of a Galaxy Ace /efs folder so i can try to modify the nv_data.bin to get my IMEI back, i have a friend that has a sptbox and i've eard that with a nv_data.bin file it's possible to change the IMEI.

Ouch, you might be out of luck man, might need to get a new phone as theres no real known "way" of restoring the backups of /efs folders or nvdata.bin etc on this phone yet , give this thread a read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1753833 its a known issue that can occur after flashing a rom on this phone... good luck.
edit, usually to save this kind of stuff you need to backup your efs folder, meaning that a nandroid backup nor a tibu backup can't help you with this; it needs to be done separately.

If your rooted use a root enabled file explorer (I use Root Explorer) and open it up to /. There should be a folder called “efs". Simply copy that folder and place it on your internal or external sd, then for safe keeping place it on your laptop/computer

I've been nervous about flashing anything else since I've read about 4 cases like this. I'm so freakin happy I found this thread! I've found the efs folder your referring to, but I don't know if I should copy the efs folder to my external storage or open it & just copy the IMEI folder to my external storage? Your help would be so very much appreciated.
Maybe someone should put this in general and try to get it stickied, as it seems like a necessary preventive maintenance?
Edit: I just backed up the whole folder to be safe, and I'm going to make a general post referring to this problem.
Hello everyone, I've got a big problem... I have been using my SGSIII with CM10 and siyah kernel, and everything was fine. however, 2 days ago my phone froze and i had to pull the battery. after restarting i wasnt able to get a connection... i tried reflashing, rebooting, resetting and everything, but nothing worked. after looking around I saw that my device says Baseband: unknown and IMEI nothing... so i checked my efs folder with root explorer - and see it is empty. fortunately i've got a EFS backup! So i tried to recover it with HC-kTool - it says success however the efs folder ist still empty and stil cant connect. when I try to move the backed up files into the efs folder manually, it tells me that no space is free..?
I also checked "mount" in the terminal, and saw that the /efs partition is NOT mounted... so I remounted it manually with
Code:
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
mount -w -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /efs
after doing this i can restore my backup and there are loads of files in the /efs folder! however, after a reboot everything is gone and /efs is not mounted anymore
does anyone know what i need to do? the phone is running stock ALE8 rooted.
Cheers

So does anyone have an Idea what I should do now?
This information might be of use to you, but the restore without an *.img file (assuming you don't have one) probably won't be.
The last one (0p3)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
actually I have an .img file... called
Code:
efsdev-mmcblk0p1.img
which is around 4MB... thats an efs-backup made by SiyahKernel about a month ago.
I'll try it with this one!
That sounds like a plan
Don't do it ! Efs partition size is 20mb and is called 0p3.
If you do it, you'll screw up your efs partition (assuming it's still there).
Just try to mount 0p3 to /efs.
If it doesn't work and you don't have a 20Mb backup of 0p3, I'm afraid there's nothing more you can do to restore efs.

I'm not in need of one, my EFS is ok.
I was pointing out to Fekle in my earlier post that the EFS partition is 0p3.
ok, Thanks everyone, I just did it before it worked well, the efs folder is now "normal" again, my baseband is recognised and I can see my IMEI again, however it differs from the one written onto the device under the battery -___- my "real" imei is 3531..... but the device says 004999010640000 now in the settings
I think this is something like a stock fallback imei or sth like that.. any Idea how I can change that to my real imei?? that has to be possible somehow.. !

I don't think sharing EFS data is a good idea. In most countries changing IMEI info is illegal - - access to someone elses EFS backup would probably allow you to do that.
Upto the OP though if he/she still wants to share it.

Sharing publicly efs is indeed a bad idea, but not being able to use your phone anymore due to a corrupted efs is worse IMO. Anyway, I've build an app to sim unlock gs3, many users trusted me before and sent me their corrupted efs folder for me to have a look (which doesn't mean he has to ), so if I ever wanted to use another imei, I'd have plenty already

So you were restoring nandroid backup and you lost your phone's IMEI? No never happened to me. But you should have made a backup for it dude!
Edit: Okay got it. Install Root Explorer pro and check whether the efs folder is there or not. Set the same permissions from another I9100 and then reboot. Set the same permissions for each file in that folder and the folder itself. If you have made a backup in the form of .tar file then use HC ktool to restore your efs folder. It would automatically set the permissions required!

no thats not what happened. I rooted my 4.0.4 using Odin and Siyah Kernel v5. Straight after rooting it, i downloaded GSII_repair from the app store and backed up my efs. Then i downloaded Titanium and backed up everything. Then i went to recovery mode and made a back up. I finally flashed the Resurrection ROM v3.1.3, i rebooted, everything was working fine, like imei was there and so was signal, i restarted my phone and my imei number went away, so i used the GSII_repair app to restore, it worked fine. I restarted my phone again, imei was gone yet again. So i decided to go back to my stock ROM back up, imei was gone, i restored, everything working fine now. Just not sure whats happening because i have rooted phones before and that has never happened to me, every time i restart, imei goes away, sometimes it comes back, sometimes it doesnt. What has happened? just reallly confused. i have a back up of my EFS though.

Oh man that is really heart wrenching. Atleast you made a backup before messing with your phone. Okay now can you restore your efs? If yes then restore it and download HC ktool and make another backup for it. Then restart your phone and if you lose it again then restore it using HC ktool. You can try EFS Pro from your PC as well.

I get your point but with your IMEI coming and going, it would point too corrupt efs files on the root of your phone, given you have tried various methods already, I would take a copy of the suspected corrupt efs folder save it onto your pc, then go back to the root folder and delete it, replacing it with one from your EFS_backup folder on your external SD, no need to edit any of the internal files or use any other software, simply reboot

Is the same link I said I followed its instructions. It didn't worked.
I had the same problem, the only tool I needed was root explorer to fix.
Begin by selecting one of the compressed files in your EFS_BACKUP on your external SD.
Pick anyone but ensure it's one from before you began to have your IMEI problem.
Copy this file to your PC then expand, place the expanded file and its contents in a place you will remember on your external SD card
Now as a precaution before you start making any changes, take note of the permissions of the original efs folder on the root of your phone,
and make a copy and place in a safe place even thou it could be corrupt.
Now Open root explorer option change root explorer from Read Only to Read Write
Now you can delete your corrupted efs folder and replace it with the copy from your EFS_BACKUP folder from your external SD card
Now reboot and fingers crossed you should be back on network good luck, I hope this helps
How did you loose it? What was you doing? Do a nandroid restore?

Ok, I have done this so far... and I got my SIM detected and my IMEI back. BUT!!! I can't unlock my device anymore, I tried with GalaxSIM, Galaxy S2 unlock, Galaxy S2 Sim Unlock.
With GalaxSIM I did the unlock procedure and restarted, went back to the app and it showed that my phone was unlocked, but it wasn't. And then My IMEI is gone again... What is happening? why my IMEI is coming and going ?
Thank you for the help!

But how it shows me mi original IMEI ???
As I I mentioned I have a lot of EFS but they aren't in the same format.
efsbackup.tar.gz
efs_05Mar2013-1109.tar.gz
efs_11Jan2013-0222.tar.gz
efs_backup.tar.gz
efs_save_for_sgsII.tar.gz
and this...
nv_data.bin.unlocked
Do you think it's ROM related? I'm trying with CM10 ...Which ROM do you recommend me to make the unlock?
How I restore those backups, because when I restore some, I don't see any changes at all.

Mate my point is there is nothing to flash, it's simply copy paste, expand file, goto root delete old file and replace with uncompressed file.
When you uncompress the .tar do this in a folder on your desktop and you will see the contents for yourself,
NOTE you are not installing anything onto your PC you're just uncompressing a file in a folder oh and don't forget to remove the compressed file.
Wasn't being funny. Hope you don't think I was to sm.

I don't think so as you're not able to check file permissions.
I used https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wiY29tLnNwZWVkc29mdHdhcmUucm9vdGV4cGxvcmVyIl0.
You can find a free apk out there on the tinterweb, I would always recommend purchasing but it's up to you
Oh and FORGET about Odin you don't need it and it will not help you READ my instructions
