I've had Quick Office Pro on my Captivate and now on my SGS2, seemed to work ok. Today I downloaded Office Suite Pro 5, the Amazon free app of the day, and I gave it a go. It appears to pull up documents much faster than Quick Office and I also like its layout and icons better.

+1 just grabbed it myself as well. Might as well try it out for free.

this thing seems to want every permission on my phone. Why? Makes me question it.I deferred installing it for now.

Shazam Encore

If you haven't seen it already the new Amazon Market has Shazam Encore for free today!

Dude I'm loving this free app every day thing!! I downloaded that this morning! Hopefully it'll be the same as the Market, once you've signed in to Amazon after flashing a new Rom, think it'll have your "purchased" apps available?
Thanks for the heads up

I would hope so, if not use titanium any ways you should be fine cuz youve "purchased" the app for free, they send you an email about your purchase for a reason.
I hate this free app a day thing, my phone is gonna be soo bloated now time to start moving apps to external sd.
I'm really happy that Amazon is having all the free apps!
Back to OP, I've done a comparison of Shazam with SoundHound today and realized that Shazam is pretty bad compared to SoundHound. It's so much slower and its music library is small.

+1 SoundHound is much better. Used to swear by Shazam until I found it.

ah... it displays customerized news feed including updates from one's Facebook twitter etc in a very user-friendly 'magzine' way.

You may want to check out Taptu for Honeycomb

Check out Feedly too.

I would highly recommend pulse. I use that app more than anything else and on the tablet the split screen is really nice.

Try the following:
Feedly
Newsr
News360 (still in Beta but quickly getting better)
Pulse
My favorites are Feedly and Newsr currently. Several more are in beta stages.

thanks for these suggestions. i tried news 360. its user interface is nice .... and reminds me of flipboard somehow. before any updates from above apps mentioned , ifeel news 360 acts more reasonable for 10.1.

I love pulse. A preinstalled app that doesn't suck is great.
Pulse is okay, I hope flipboard comes to android.
It would be nice but I recently took a survey with News360 and they're currently working on Twitter/Facebook integration. It could possibly help me forget about Flipboard.
Man...if only I could code, I would have started working on an app just like Flipboard called Scrapbook. LoL. I wouldn't be surprised to see Flipboard appear on Android sometime after Christmas. I still wonder if Apple doesn't pay some of these developers not to work on both.
It seems silly as anybody who can program, can just take your idea, change it a bit and put in on another marketplace.
with that being said , flipboard to me ,also is far more better in providing iformation than any apps i tried on android os.
just by searching word 'cancer' , in these apps vs flipboard , one can clearly see the difference ....
hope flipboard coming to android soon ...

the same, hope it will be available for android soon.
Another thing is that they need to make the content more customizable and give more consideration to the individual preference.

That is true.
Apart from the tremendous claim for their attractive layout, this is a real problem.
There is not enough personal customization of content, and most often, the status updates chronologically.
Ive never had the chance to play with it but having seen reviews, I would really like to use planetary on android.
I would pay 4.99 on the market for that
What do you mean there is no Flipboard-like app? Theres Google Currents which is superior
I was currently searching for planetary. Only thing i found , was this thread.
Can someone port it for android? Or am i asking something incredible?
I have flipboard installed on my tab. In the play store says isn't compatible but you can instal it if you download the apk from other source. Once installed the app says in the first time open that is not made for this screen size but works perfectly!

Sports Illustrated Magazine App

Anyone get this app to work on the Tab? When I open it I only get a blank screen after the splash screen. Works fine on my Galaxy S phone.

OK, the problem was between keyboard and chair. I had the phone version, not the tab version. D'oh!

How does the SI app look on the GT10.1? I do not have SI, but if it looks slick and works well with GT10.1 I would consider a subscription.

I really like it. The photos look fantastic and the app itself runs pretty well. I have a print subscription so I was able to add the digital at no cost. I may consider going all digital (but it would be tough to give up the print version of the swimsuit issue - I have 30 years worth of those).
What other sports related apps do you use for GT10.1? I know espn scorecenter is not optimized for honeycomb.
I've had no problems using ESPN Scorecenter on my Tab - that's mostly what I use for scores. I'll also just use the browser to hit ESPN.com. I also use the watch ESPN app - allows me to watch events live on the Tab (part of my cable package).

Best remote desktop viewer for nook?

I've been looking for a good remote desktop viewer for awhile with no luck. Free or paid it doesn't matter. I just want one that works great.

I'll second TeamViewer. You have to download the .apk from their website though. They don't distribute through the Market.

I didn't like the free version of Team Viewer, because, correct me if I'm wrong, it timed out the server on my desktop after a few minutes (30 or so).
I'm currently using androidVNC, which works pretty well, and Wyse PocketCloud (which can connect to RDP, but I've only used the VNC capabilities)

and is open source . +1 for androidVNC.
I personally use the paid version of PocketCloud and love it. I've set some clients up with the free version and they haven't had any problems that I'm aware of.
*Edit*
I didn't see NCKevo's post from earlier. I use PocketCloud's RDP and VNC depending on the situation and have not run into any issues.
Also, the free version of PocketCloud is now limited to 1 saved connection.
I know this is bringing back a dead thread but if anyone finds this thread I want them to know what I decided on. I finally found a great solution. Splashtop. It is the best solution for me.

I downloaded Splashtop and the streamer for my PC but can't get them to connect...my nook doesn't find my PC. Anyone have any experience with getting them to connect? PC is running Win& Ultimate behind a Verizon (westell) router.
Never mind 3rd party software that you have to install on your pc/mac/Linux, I like Jump Desktop. Just set up an SMB server on your machine and your good Togo. Should be simple enough since most platforms comes with native SMB support.
Remember, this is just my 2 cents

After testing many apps, I settled on TeamViewer.
It's the only one that offers a decent refresh rate, doesn't pixelate, has simple controls for single-click, double-click and drag. Plus it's the only one that I've found that works well on my Nook and my LG G2X.
EDIT:
After reading about Jump Desktop (market:http://goo.gl/1SPPQ) mentioned by racks, I think I'll give that a shot. Looks intuitive.
+1 Splashtop
It streams sound, and I was able to play minecraft on the NC streaming from the PC. Also tried watching a couple of movies one of them 720p and it ran great. All this was done connected to the same network obviously, I haven't tried the option of entering your google credentials to be able to access the pc through a different network, I would think i would be slower, depending on the internet connection. Specially since my ISP only gives me 1mb upload.
If you are still undecided google or youtube "splashtop skyrim"

Update: Not anymore.
I use the latest updated version of thinkoffice. Smartoffice opens large pdf files really fast and its smoother but thinkoffice seems to handle doc files the best. Also smartoffice gets dumb when your trying to edit your doc file.....?!? I can't double tab and select cut or copy paste. I have to go through the menu and that can be an inconvenience for some. Hope this helps.
