Battery life CM7 - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Just finally worked out how to flash, root, etc and finally getting to CM7 (noobie here go easy :3) so i basically used the noob tutorial over in the x10 general area. So I'm CM7 everythings working fine its alot snappier and i love it, but the battery life on it isn't so great while in use when im not using it its fine but it just appears to be chewing the juice a little more compared to the stock 2.3.3.. any ideas guys?
Cheers.

What are your screen settings? They should be auto brightness off, screen on lowest brightness, and screen timeout on 15 seconds.
What are your other settings, the GPS settings should be off, along with Bluetooth, and wifi unless your using it.
Sent from my Atrix XDA Premium App

Hey thanks for the reply, auto is off brightness would be about 30% and bluetooth GPS wifi are only on when I need it otherwise 3g and data is on always..

I forgot about a big battery drainner, the new Facebook app. Are you using it? That could be the issue.

I only just put Facebook on not too long ago.. I'm thinking could it be the case the rom is still new? Only had it for a couple of days now..

The way I do it is to drain the phones battery till it dies, then charge it when the phone is off. Wait till its done, then turn on the phone to see if your at 100%. That should do the trick, but a better method is by a member with the name of omegared has a guide for battery calibrating. I recommend finding the guide. Its in the general section of the x10 section. Hope this helps.
Sent from my Atrix XDA Premium App

Ok awesome i will give that a go in the mean while i will look into that tutorial if i need to run through the guide.
Thanks for helping me out, im still learning hopefully i will get the hang of if more fluently.
Cheers.

Calibrating your battery will help.

After calibrating my battery drops 1% over 5 an a half hours on idle.
I'm running CM7-ZMOD and DoomKernel v05

Yeah I have done a re calibration and I have now a stronger battery life idle is insane hardly any loss. I noticed u have a doom kernal I'm wanting to put one of his on aswell. My question is I recall someone o/c his x10 to 1.2ghz can this be done and left without having to revert back? As a daily use?
Sent from my X10 using XDA App

Calibration is simple
Charge your phone to 100%
Switch off
Boot into xRecovery, goto advanced options, wipe battery stats, yes
Reboot
Pull the battery with charger connected
Reinsert after 10secs
Note that battery is now at 88%
Again charge to 100%...
Repeat for 4-5times.
CALIBRATED!
CheersS!

Yea I'm using doom's o/c kernel which 1.2ghz. You may use software like setcpu or cpu master etc.. using the "set on boot" option. It will automatically set it to your desired speed upon boot up.

Battery problem?

I am using bionix v and people are reporting 20+ hours of battery life using the battery left widget.. and when using my battety left widget (nearly fully calibrated) it tells me I have 9 hours left.. what's the deal? Is this a battery issue, and could I need a replacement. I have had battery issues with nearly all of my roms in the past. I guess it could be a conditioning issue. Please help

I just flashed mine on Sunday and charged it overnight. I ended up getting just under 42 hours of life out of it without doing to battery recondition.

Not possible by someone who actually uses there phone. I never thought I was a heavy user but seeing replies like above I have to be past the definition of heavy user. With my extended battery I could get 2.5 days on a single charge.
Im also having battery drain with bionix newest rom. Nothings changed in my day-day usage. probably flash another modem or something.
I think I might switch to stock froyo if things don't get better. Or just order a new battery. Because it just drops like a rock. And im using watchdog but it doesn't really help that much. Or could someone with experience with battery drain guide me on how to stop it from happening?

Something tells me you have a bad battery if you've always had battery issues. Did you get your phone from T-Mobile? If so call them and tell them your battery is bad--they should send you a new one for free.

Yes I got it from t-mobile but I have not used stock long enough to see whether it was just a rom issue. I have only flashed team whiskeys roms and they seem to kill my battery. Nero v3 was the best but still wasn't great. I leave around 6:30 in the morning and maybe use the phone to get on xda, engadget, facebook, etc for about 1 hour, But my battery drops like a rock when I do this. And ever since bionix v it has only gotten worse. From that one hr of usage it drops 40 percent. Is hsdpa that big of a battery-killer? Because on wifi it seems to do a little better. Idk if this is just a network issue or what? Like right now it dropped 2 percent just from typing this up. brightness is less than half and everything is set to manually refresh. Wth?

Had terrible battery life as well with bionix v. Double checked to see if anything was running in the background and reconditioned my battery. Even then I was still getting atrocious battery life. Oh well I ended up switching back to axura which imo offers great performance and battery life. Not saying TW roms are bad (nero v3 was amazing) give Masters axura a shot if you haven't.

My battery life isn't that great. I am going to turn off lagfix and see if there is any improvements.
I don't think lag fix had anything to do with battery that much, all it sites is change the filesystem right? And with bionix v I got over 24hrs battery

Well I think I finally conditioned correctly, and watchdog is notifying me about programs that are using lots of of cpu. So I'll see how today goes. 9:00 AM right now. Let's see how long it takes to die
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Seems to be dying much faster in standby mode
Edit: nevermind it seems to be doing well enough for the time being. Talked on the phone for 1 hour, texted, and went on xda and engadget. It is at 70%. On standby mode it ia doing loads better after reconditioning. Does losing 30% to doing stuff like that sound about right? Battery left says I have 7 hours 58 min remaining

if you made it readable you might get more help
try charging it to 100%, calibrating the battery, letting it die, and then recharge it to 100% without any interruptions.

Difference???
Download the Battery Calibration app from the market and follow its instructions.
Also, go to the battery settings and look up what's eating so much battery.
I've read before that Motoblur Social Networking service can misbehave and slaughter the battery.

If i were you i would do a factory restore. No, actually if i were you i would flash a ROM that allows bypassing motoblur login (like NinjaFC).

Power off phone
Plug into wall charger
Leave phone off until you reach 100% charge
Boot phone to xRecovery and wipe battery stats
Pull battery out for 10 seconds
Put battery back
Charge again to 100%
Wipe battery stats again
Boot phone up and charge once more to 100%
Then leave charging for 30 more minutes
Unplug charger
Goto settings / about / status
See if it says 100%
Leave phone for 5 minutes
Check battery stats again
Should show 100% still

It seems I got the same problem.
On a full standby (wifi, data, gps, bt screen, etc all off) it usually wasted 1% per hour, I mean, if I went to sleep for 8 hours after a full charge, it should had wasted only about 8-10& of my battery, getting me about 3 days (72h) of battery.
Now, again on full standby after 1h30m I have only ~88% of battery. With data on and using it, I have nearly 1h15min of full charge... Its nothing...
Already tried 2 diferent kernels, Cosmic but non OC, and v1113 dooms, both go well on deep sleep, just cant get whats going on since it was from nothing. On 4 distinc roms (FeraLab v20, Dolphin v2.2.8, Cosmic v06 and old TEAMs) it happens.
The time it took me to write this, it waster 7%..
Any ideas?

Sent from my Nook Tablet using xda app-developers app
I have been running CM10 0.5.3 for a little while now and it has been very stable. Honestly, I haven't had any FC's or SoDs since going from 0.5.1 to .3. Battery has been fine as well. It will sleep for 12 hours and only lose 1 or 2 % but it isn't as good as stock (and I don't expect it to be).
If you want to overclock it, you will be draining the battery even faster also.
What do you mean by overclocking?

Stock on the NT is 1Ghz (Well, 1008Mhz, or so mine says). Anything over that is overclocking. Not that that is a bad thing. If it can handle it, and it appears that it can, there is no real problem aside from the fact that the battery will discharge faster. You will probably also notice that it will run a bit warmer too if it stays up at 1.2 for any length of time.
How do i know if i overclocked? And for cm10 do i need the latest cwm
Sent from my Nook Tablet using xda app-developers app
Yes, you will need a newer version of CWM if you are on 5.0.xx. You can get SetCPU on the Play Store to check and control CPU speed as well.
Check out chrmhoffmann's thread here for just about all you need to know.
If you need to know about updating CWM, check out Veronica's (lavero.burgos) thread here.
Hope that helps!
Hey.....ummm....can you like give me specifics of everything you have experienced with this cm10 rom because i've tried a few aand theh are all unstable...im really doubtful and wanted your feed back
Sent from my Nook Tablet using xda app-developers app
Not sure what specifics I can give... I use it for reading (Aldiko, Moon Reader, Kindle, B&N, SCViewer), games (Angry Birds, Amazing Alex, Plague Inc, Rebuild, Flight Control, etc), watch videos/movies (MX Player, YouTube), Facebook, Twitter, G+ and Tapatalk as well as browsing with either Dolphin or Chrome. Plus my kids play games on it.
I turn it on, and go. If I want wifi, I turn it on and browse, download, whatever. When I'm done online, I turn wifi off. I usually put it to sleep myself with the power button, but I've had it go to sleep on its own and haven't had any issues.
Like I said, I haven't had any crashes, FCs or SoDs.
Hope that was specific enough.
And ur using ver. .5.3 not. 6?

Correct. Only because I haven't gotten around to flashing it yet though.
Cool...so to summarize mostly stable and to flash a cwm i just flash the zip without reset or wipe.....and then i flash the rom?

Correct. No wipe needed for the recovery, but make sure to wipe for the ROM.

Try this
note: CM7 has the greatest battery life out of all the available CMs
Step 1: Charge battery to 100%
Step 2: While tablet is still plugged into charger, hard reset phone (volume down + n)
Step 3: When tablet turns off, unplug charger
Step 4: Turn on tablet (Note: If calibration is needed, battery percentage will be less than 100%!)
Step 5: Plug in charger and charge to 100%
Step 6: Repeat until battery percentage is 100 upon restart.
or
step 1: complete discharge
step 2: leave it there for a couple hours (8)
step 3: Charge to 100%
NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE
Are you sure? Will this calibrate the battery? How long is the battery supposed to last?
Sent from my Nook Tablet using xda app-developers app
I did that and its lasted about 4 hours about 65% ive also got the app that turns off wifi when you lock screen....and brightness low...is that what its supposed to be?

With medium/heavy use I only get about 5-6 hours before needing to recharge. That's with wifi on the whole time.

Is this good or bad?

It's not bad. Try better battery stats to see your wake locks and cpu spy to see if your device is deep sleeping

Thanks i will update tomorrow or so...
About deep sleep i already checked vefore and it does but as for better battery status i just downloaded the app. Should i just let it installed and dont touch or do i need to run in the background?

Some parts of it need root access. But it should still give you the wake locks. Just let it run in the background and check it after a min of 5hrs
Is that good for you? That's all it matters.
It looks alright to me.
Can it be improved? Of course.

Seems like google + is the biggest battery drainer... and the ls... service whats that?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I think you have several times recharge the battery to 100% and also drain the battery until phone turn off to calibrate.
