Hi i was wondering if there's a way to change the default app of a rom. For example, i use go launcher ex, boat browser, go sms pro ecc, is it possible to make those apps the dafault ones? Taking out the stock ones, and using those as stock?
When you choose one app, it ask if you want use it as default....
Thanks... I knew it! But everytime i reboot the nexus, i have to choose again all the preferences!
I meant, is It possible to substitue the default apps, with the ones i use?

I think what is being asked is,
can a ROM be unpacked, delete the apps you don't want and replace them with your own.
At least that's what I think is meant

Yes, That could be an answer! Or i don't know, is It possible via terminal, adb... Sadly i'm not a dev, and i don't know as much as i would!
Anyway... Yes! Is It possible to unpack a rom and replace the apps with the ones i want?

You can just open a rom zip and delete the apps the from /system/app/ directory.
Alternatively, you can download titanium backup from the market. This app allows you to backup or uninstall apps.

Is there a way we could install HTC messaging app on our vibrants? Maybe somebody has an apk file to try? I love Samsung one, but it lags so bad at times!

FYI, its not the htc app, but the default messaging app from CM 5.0.8 for the nexus one will install just fine on the vibrant, IF you have root, and delete the stock application.
cheers
Is there a stickey for doing such process?

Once you have root, you could either do it via adb, or go download root manager and delete stock app, then you should.be able to install the apk file of the other messaging client.

Hi I have been wondering if I could replace stock apps on my Galaxy Ace with an other from the market......for instance remove the gallery and replace it with quickphoto app as system app, my phone is rooted and I have a stock rom and by that I mean not a custom for instance cw7 or others like that!? Any of you out there have any idea if that works?

Yep, I did it for a few apps.
Which ones.....I tried by changing the gallery with the quickpic one but later on when I try to open it I got a warning that I had to install it again....weird cause I had only convert it to system app with TB Pro....so I had to make it a user app again to be able to use it.....!

So I've extracted CM9's stock SMS app and it installs fine on MIUI, however when I reboot the SMS app is then replaced with MIUI's stock one. I've frozen MIUI's stock SMS app, and that works fine. But I can't install CM9's sms app without overwriting MIUI's one, and then obviously it'll be replaced by MIUI's one on the next reboot..
Is there a way to get around this? Or is there maybe a way to install both of them without one overwriting the other? Thank you!

Did you push it to system apps? You'll have to change the permissions to 644, but that should keep the app after a reboot.

I prefer the AOSP phone app myself, but why remove one at all? Just use Titanium Backup to freeze which ever one you don't want to use. That way if a problem comes up with the phone app you choose to keep, you can unfreeze the other.
Cheers!

I'm running CyanogenMod 11, and I wanted to remove the stock camera, I found alot of links on google to do it through Terminal Emulator but It never works. also I want to replace it with the camera from the stock rom, and if I try to install that the app never installs properly. Any help would be appreciated.

You won't get a Sense camera to work on a non-sense ROM, just doesn't work, so you won't get the stock Rezound camera to work on CM.
If you like a different camera app, just install it, and if you REALLY want it in the system, use something like Ultimate Backup or Titanium Backup to make it a system file, and associate camera with it. You could also remove the stock camera app if you want, but why?
I don't like the redundancy, and it saves space on the the device. Its frozen for now but I'd rather exercise my android more than that.

Fair enough... You can remove a system app with either of the two programs I mentioned above as well.
