Xperia Active Light Bleeding - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I just got an Xperia Active Billabong Edition today. My problem is that the lower right screen is bleeding. It's not the screen itself. It's actually the blacklight of the capacitive "menu" button. When I set the screen timeout to 2 mins and the capacitive buttons shut off before the screen does, there's no light bleed. Anyone else with this problem?

Yea i got the same issue. I have persuaded myself not to look on the bottom right corner
I think its a manufacturer error...

Thank god. I feel better now that I'm not the only one. Which active do you have?

i have same thing......does not bother me at all.......

Same error here.
Newly aquired Xperia Active with bleeding light in lower right corner, and it really annoys me.
That an the fact that the phone sometimes, without reason, goes into a vibrating spasm which usually do not last longer than a minute.
And sometimes the phone looses connection with the SIM-card, and I have to turn the phone off, and the on again to be able to connect to my carrier.

So it's a common problem? I think it's a manufacturing defect.

Anyone else experiencing this? My seller said his last unit also has this light leak.

I see the same thing. I just decided not to care

Me too on st15i

I also have the vibra-spasms
I didnt have them on CM7 tho. I think its Kernel related more than anything,

Same for me - don´t think about .............
BTW - it´s a famous fone and really water resitent - i tried this out yesterday.

That's just terrible quality control! It's alarming.
Strange thing is people aren't bothered by the inferior quality of their products.

I've been checking for light bleeding on a couple of active's but I can't see any. Do you guys have any picture of your light bleeding's? I'm interested too see it myself.

It's quite hard to capture it on photo but it's on the lower right. It's caused by the capacitive buttons light leaking on the LCD.
It's very visible at night specially on a black screen or just when you unlock unlock phone using the power button from sleep.

Hey,
have you ever tried to use the app "Screen Filter"?
The app should allow you to turn off the backlight of the softkeys!
Can anyone check if its working with the Xperia Active?
Let me know please... i dont have the phone, but maybe soon i have...

Same Here, i think what happend on my active

Please can anyone check if the "Screen Filter" app works on the xperia active?
There you can choose "disable softkey backlight". With this option the effect dont appear anymore...
please advice

Screen filter and unselect "Enable soft key backlight" works well. Soft key backlight is disabled, also when unlocking the phone.
The disadvantage being that in a dark room, you'll now have to "know" where each of the three soft buttons is (which probably isn't a problem if it's your phone and you're used to using it).

Thanks a lot! Happy to hear that...
Is there a possibility to autostart Screen Filter or have you to start the app manually after a reboot?
Thanks a lot again

Mine look pretty similar in brightness.
The question that I have about the buttons is there a way to change their brightness or turn the backlight off? I when the phone is in the dock and in night mode the screen dims but the buttons are still at full brightness which defeats the purpose of dimming the screen backlight.

Yup, just download "led's hack" from the market and after opening app it'll ask what phone you have, choose "Droid X" and you'll be able to disable the bottom led's and top too if wanted. Don't forget to hit thanks

Looking into this
I'm a Sprint Product Ambassador supporting the launch of the Motorola Photon. I wasn't able to find any settings that would control the backlight for the capacitive buttons natively on the Photon. I know on some of our other Android devices you can match button backlight to screen timeout, etc but I am not seeing anything similar for Photon. I am researching thid further but did a little testing for you today with my own HDMI dock and while it's no real fix, I did see that after leaving it on the dock for a couple of minutes in night mode, the capacitive button backlight did go off after a couple of minutes.
I guess I didn't leave it on long enough to see them go off. I'm trying the app for now and so far it's doing what I need. If the lights go out like you said there must be a timer value somewhere that I'm going to see if I can find.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Mine seem the same, although of course apparent brightness is different because the buttons are different sizes.
I exchanged the phone and this is my third photon and its rock solid.
P.S. I was having issues with lag and removed "watchdog" and that may have been my problem. it was the free app on amazon a while back and I got it. does anyone else use that program?

[Q] Auto-lowering brightness when sleeped

Hi, I was wondering why our Galaxy's screen reduces brightness before going asleep. If you notice, pressing the power button the display doesn't turn off instantly, but it turns very dull for a brief moment and then it turns off.
Can you tell me why? It is quite annoying. Other phones turn off instantly, like many HTC's I've seen. Does this concern the SA+ screen? Do you know a fix?
Have a nice evening (21.30 here in Italy)
Only just noticed this now.
Why does it bother you?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
It does not, I was just wondering.. I'd like to know if it's a software glitch or if it's something about the hardware.
I don't think it's a glitch as I've seen many gs2 do it.

Yes, I meant a firmware/kernel glitch but no one of the roms/kernels I've tried solved this out :\

Light leak from left touch key in dark ??

Hello guys, now its been almost a week since i've had my s3 but yesterday night before going to sleep, i just unlocked my phone in pitch black darkness and what i saw was white light originating from the left capacitive key extending to the screen which looked really bad like a screen burn or some kind of weird white patch on the screen as if i've cracked it, and if it were from both keys i cud have convinced myself that its normal but its only the left key! and its not at all noticable even in a little light and if your screen is not using a dark black background.. so what do you guys suggest me to do? can you guys check your phones in a fully dark room with black blackground and touch keys lit up?? and will my warranty consider this an issue and cover it? i feel so bad right now :/
I'll check later tonight, but I generally have those lights permanently off since my S2 as the intermittent on/off at every screen touch is an annoyance particularly when watching videos
I would suggest turning them off, the buttons are easy enough to find in the dark plus you save a little bit of battery.

I went to the dealer and they said that they would send it to the shop to check if it really had a failure, and if it had a hardware failure they would exchange it in one week!!!!!!!!!!! i will just stay with my phone as it is. It is more possible they will really screw it on the shop with something really bad to worry about, and I bet that the next one will have the same flaw or another even worst, so I prefer to stay with mine.

Soft keys not lighting up

After my bootload unlock and root, my softkeys don't work, help!
working fine here not sure what would have caused that
I just realized its an auto lighting issue, cover your light and proximity sensor and they come on. Voila!
I find something new/different every couple hours it seems like.
My soft keys don't light up either but I've been looking around and it appears in all the reviews I've seen, they don't lite up. Can someone confirm or deny this please?

Mine do light up. It needs to be dark or you need to cover up the sensor.
turn off your lights or go in a dark room. They DO light up and if yours don't, you have an issue.

Mine have been intermittent. Sometimes they light up and most of the time they don't. I love it when they work, it really helps. I keep missing the right spot for the back button unless I can see it. Mine would turn on when I rotated the phone to landscape and then go off again when rotated back to portrait. For the last hour they've been on all the time.
I just tried the light sensor theory and it's 100% right. I shined a bright flashlight at the ambient light sensor and the buttons turned off. Took the flashlight away and the buttons turned back on.
edit: crap, I spoke too soon. They turned off again and now won't turn on no matter what I do. They came on for a few seconds and then went off again. Now they're still off. I look forward to seeing them again soon, just wish I knew what makes them stay lit up.

My keys don't turn on unless I'm in a totally dark room, with no lights on anywhere. Frankly I think it's pretty stupid. I can't see the keys at all for about 90% of the time I'm using it. It would be nice to have a switch to just turn them on and leave them on. Maybe a widget but would probably require root.

If this phone weren't so awesome in every other way the (un)lighted buttons would be a deal breaker for me. It's pissing me off although I know eventually I'll get used to where the keys are supposed to be. The few times when the keys light up makes me pissed off for all the times when they don't.
If your keys stay lit all the time there must be a setting somewhere to turn them on. ??
Maybe a poll would be appropriate - see if this is a big problem or if I have a defective phone.
Am I the only one who soft keys are always lit up?
By the way I like them to be lit up all the time.

Do you mean even when the screen is off?
Mine worked.. then stopped.. took 3 factory resets to get them going. But now have to be in a really dark room for them to work..
Not pleased but this phone rocks. Hopefully HTC fixes this. Just chock it up as early adopter pains..
P.S glad I'm not the only one this bug is affecting..

you can Restore to factory status, and try this again.:silly:
def. seems like the sensor to initialize the backlight for the buttons is very sensitive. Wish it would pop on in low light not complete darkness.
Bump. For anyone interested making their capacitive buttons turn on with the screen, regardless of lighting.

Lighting up capacitive touch buttons

Is anyone else having issues with the capacitive touch buttons not lighting up? I am not in power saver mode and my buttons only light up every once in awhile. Seemingly random.

Mine lights up when the LCD turns on and also on low light environment. This seems to be the normal behavior from what I read.
That's what I assumed usual behavior would be, and mine sometimes acts just like that. But most of the time they don't turn on at all. I'll be rooting and flashing soon and hopefully that'll fix it
Does anyone have any ideas in the meantime or maybe I'm missing a setting?

They are supposed to light up? Wow, I don't think I've had that happen at all. Is there a way to keep them on? I was thinking to myself it was annoying not being able to see them clearly.

This is a bug and has been fixed in newer software in the Main HTC One forum. T-Mo just needs to update the software.
From what I've seen on my device, mine only light up in "low light". Discovered it by tilting the phone towards a direct light, the buttons dimmed, then tilted away and they came back on. I just assumed that was normal behavior. Picked mine up on the 24th and no software update yet

Hmm you're totally right. I just covered my light sensor with my hand and they are constantly on. I wish there was a way to turn that feature off and just have them on all the time or at least change the sensitivity cause sometimes I can't see the buttons still. Well at least I have a reason now. Thanks.
