is there soothing wrong with the stock Amaze wifi hotspo setting?

Well according to TMOB you will need to pay $15.00 per month for that feature to work. But I read in some other post that if you clear the APN type and Authentication type from the T-mobile APN, then it works.

I left everything else alone.
I don`t use MMS so did not put any of that info in.

Ok, wait a minute...
When I go into my APN settings, there are two listed, "T-Mobile Data" and T-Mobile MMS".
Did you just remove those entries altogether? Or did you just delete the text in the APN Type in the T-Mobile Data APN?
EDIT:
Ok, I got it. Delete the APN entry for "T-Mobile MMS". Then, go into the "T-Mobile Data" APN settings and clear all the entries from the "APN Type" field, it should read "<not set>".
Yup it works......FINALLY
Thanks

Well... that didn't take long. Less than 24 hours of use and T-Mobile pushed a message to my cell telling me to pay the $15 for the data plan. They allowed me to continue tethering to my work laptop then i started getting the offers.tmobile.com (or whatever) page. I guess it was good while it lasted. Any other ideas?

Tether was not working before the apn edit.
After the apn edit the tether worked... for about 200 mb of standard web usage.
About 100mb through T-Mobile pushed a message to my cell (showed up as a globe with a "w" on it in the status bar) saying that I needed to subscribe to a Tethering and Data plan else my service may be interrupted (or something similar).
I continued on and in the middle of submitting my report through a secured service it just stuck there as though I lost data connection. I opened up a new page and it took me to the offers.tmobile.com page. From that point on I lost my tethering abilities.
This morning I was so desperate for my tethering I went ahead and subscribed. The alternative is my work Sprint data card.

I was just informed that on the SGS2, they frooze the app "Tethering Manager" with titanium backup. Can any of you rooted guys try this and confirm whether it works on the Amaze too? If so im sure we can just leave that apk out of future rom builds and be perfect!
i will look into that or just rebuild it from the other leaks i have
Tether via Bluetooth DUN?
Can anyone report whether it's possible to tether via Bluetooth Dial-Up-Networking? Does the Amaze support that particular Bluetooth profile?
If so, does tethering that way invoke the TMobile upsell screens, or does the browsing work without problems.
The easiest way to activate DUN would be to use PDAnet, and connect via bluetooth from a DUN-client device.
I can do this easily from my TMo N1, but I'm curious to know whether this is a way around the tethering problems people are having.

With the Wireless tether, I've got the correct version and settings, but the wireless network disappears when I change the device profile, any suggestions to fix this?
And while the wifi might not be blocked, does this mean that tmobile cannot slow down my service?

Not sure what GB is, but I've used apn manager to erase the default APN, and made a new one reading "epc.tmobile.com" as the new APN.
And will either of these methods stop t-mobile from slowing down my service?

I just saw a post at another forum about FoxFi. We know now that Sprint banned the app, but the story is that Sprint is also tracking how much data is used with this and charging if it goes over 5gb/month, so it's basically just the same as the built-in hotspot app.
Now, I'm not sure if Sprint actually has the capability to track and differentiate data usage between regular phone data access and hotspot access, but that's what I read. Just a warning in case somebody wants to look further into it.

It is not new that Verizon Galaxy Note 2 sim card is locked.
And today I gave it a try anyway... It is sort of locked, but not completely...
Basically I plugged into a T-Mobile prepay card I can MAKE PHONE CALL instantly without any issue. But See no data connection, obviously.
The warning message "non-verizon sim card detected" is there but it is not blocking anything .
SO it is kind of locked in data , but not voice. If it means to someone still. It certainly means a lot to me. Because previously when I have ATT HTC-ONE X, it is locked completely meaning you can't bypass the unlock simcard screen to use the phone.
SO now At least I know I can use it in other countries for voice, if I have a local sim card, which is good for me most of the time.
Of course if you can't live with data in other country's 3G/4G this means nothing to you. Please ignore. Otherwise, for some travelers, this may help to clarify.

For some place (like NYC), if you can unlock it, TMobile is also having 4G. it all depends on where TMobile activated its AWS 1700 band.
Good to know we can at least make voice calls. Leaving the SIM unlocked is one of the few nice things Verizon has done recently.
You need to update the APN settings to get data coverage for non-Verizon SIM cards. Calls and SMS doesn't require this.
So that means if I change the apn my tmobile sim can work immediately? Or Verizon blocked the ability to edit apn?

It is already unlocked. If it were locked, you couldn't put the SIM in and make calls. The only thing we need to find to have it fully working is how to add/edit the APN info so that you could get data service.

I dont have a note to try this with but I have been sucessful with my GS3 on Jelly bean. Purchase Titanium backup pro, and Download HiApn or APN manager pro. You'll first have to set your APN managing app as a system app before it will be able to edit the APN in Jelly bean. Of course this will require root. My carrier of choice for my GS3 happens to be on H2O, who has their own configurator app, and it claims to not work on Android 4.0+ but I was able to set it as a system app as well and was able to get functioning data. Check out the GS3 forums for further assistance. Hope this helps. Also, seems like I remember reading somewhere in the GS3 forums as well that they had the Non Verizon SIM notification as well. It wasn't locked.

The phone is already fully SIM unlocked. There's just not a way to change the APN in the stock settings in order to get data working. This can be done with root access.
The non-Verizon SIM message is likely there to notify you that you aren't pay excess fees for international coverage like you would if you were using VZW's international plan.

I can honestly say I have never been throttled, yet. During the time I had my iPhone 5 I had a month in which I was one winter vacation for 2 weeks and during that time consumed more than 10 gigabytes of data. I never noticed slower speeds after passing 5 gigs. I have on many billing cycles passed 5 gigs and never noticed any reduced speeds.

I'll check to see if that works. I'm close to my 5gb for the month.
If I've never gotten the iPhone 3G for cheap, I probably wouldnt have unlimited data. I guess I could thank Apple for that.

After 5GB on an LTE device, or 3GB on a 3G device.
It has been hit or miss with mine, after doing the steps I am unthrottled most of the time. Occasionally the speeds are throttled again and I somehow get it working again by toggling gsm, do a speedtest then switch back to lte mode
Have to do this any time the phone reboots or network mode is changed

You may need to edit build prop again after reboot
turn off mobile data
Toggle gsm data,
do a speedtest
then turn lte back on.
Works for me every time. I am at 8 gb this month

Ok toggling the GSM seems to have helped. Not getting great speeds(3 u/d) but I think that is more to do with my location and having carppy signal
Now the files I deleted(I madee a zip and saved them in another folder), do I need to replace these files at the end of the month, or will I have to redo this once again after my month starts?

If the permissions are set they should not repopulate.
I am still testing all of this as well

What build.prop edits do you perform? I don't see anything in that regard.
does anyone know of a tethering app that works? i tried wifi tether router, but according to the dev (who i had many email discussions with) you have to create an APN that uses IPV4 instead of V6. well, when i create an APN with ipv4 i can't connect to the data network.
any ideas?
...
a 3rd party tether, btw.
The stock one works.

Riiiiggghhhttttttt.... I mean a third party app.
If you have to ask "why", please refrain from posting because we're on completely separate wavelengths.
Try fox fi

this works for you?
I don't have any need to tether with anything at the moment. I was just trying to answer your original question without violation.
There have been many users that have gotten tether to work with unlimited data (pulling from the data instead of tether) and there are guides all over the place, just do a search.
Once thing I know is adjusting the APNs and using a different client protocol in your browser on your pc is required to achieve what you desire.
Check a couple custom roms on here too.
I believe the alliance rom and project infinity rom have both fixed the apn from the get go.
Hope that helps.
Ps > fox fi worked great on my previous phones when I had Verizon, but now I'm on t mobile and rely on wifi calling because the data network is out of my range where I live, and I have free wifi at both my jobs so, hence the reason I haven't had the need to tether, yet.
Good luck. And when I get back home in about 20 minutes I will search the forums and post a link or two for you if you haven't figured it out yet.

i asked for anyone that knows of a tethering app that works. on an s5 (as the forum indicates). that implies, nay, dictates, that the individual providing their input has first hand knowledge of whether it works on an S5.
if you don't have direct first hand experience with this working, then you're not able to answer my original question without violation.
anyone else?
The stock one WORKS as well as foxfi.
There you go. Your question has been answered....
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
not at all. have you succesfully used foxfi to successfully wifi tether on your S5? i don't care about any other phone because this isn't those phone's forums nor does it matter to me in the slightest.
as for the stock, i've already addressed that. sorry for your confusion.
Yes

PdaNet+ works as well. Wifi, Bluetooth, usb. No problem.
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
interesting that you say foxfi works on the S5. the developer's page doesn't indicate as much:
http://pdanet.co/help/devices.php
you've used PDANET on your S5 and it worked?
well, doesn't matter anyway. tried pdanet/foxfi. not only does it fail to start, it tried to use the built in provisioning. failx2.
Yes, and yes.
Here is another one that works.
These screen shots are taken from my s5.
Proof it works.
Are you rooted?
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
yup, rooted. tried that one too. i can get it to "turn on", but i get errors saying that the tether couldn't be started. when it starts successfully, there's a data counter at the bottom.
Using fox fi.

the first screenshot showing that last icon on the right indicates it's simply using your phone's built-in tether. this is not what i'd like to occur. when i opened up my own phone's built in hotspot, the network name was changed to "foxfi" which further indicates foxfi isn't really doing anything except starting the built in tether.
looking for something independent of the phone's native "tethering" ability.

wifi tether router is working for me. it took me a lot of research here on xda but i finally got it to work. For the app settings follow the devs instruction but do that create the apn. You just have to change the original apn from ipv6 to ipv4 using a file manager. I used esfile explorer. Do some research here in xda to find the exact steps you need to take to change it.

thanks. im beginning to understand that for whatever reason, my phone cannot establish a data connection when im in ipv4. i think this is the root of all my tethering problems.
With WiFi tether plus you have to tap it on then tap off and tap on again for it to work right. Also, these apps won't work unless you modify your apn like instructed because ipv4 and dun are the only way that works right now till ipv6 is available.
