Now looking for U20a f/w. Most f/w on site is U20i
got this from the desire forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902941&page=4
downloaded it, modified the source to avoid mmap at 0, which doesn't work for us, compiled it and I've got root on the original 2.1update1 version from SE. you can do the same with the original source or download my binary.
the only change I did was to mmap at 4092. all credits should go to scotty who pulled us from our misery .
after you get rootted you know what to do: mount rw, copy su, busybox, etc.
I dont realy understand for what is this and how can help us.
Good Job sonty. We don't need now return from updated 2.1 back to 1.6 root it and again flashing to 2.1. Its really easier and faster method I think.
pretty cool, and so far i've googled it should really work BUT.... how?
PLZ....could you give any tut?
Many(!) thanks
How to use it?
so this can be used to root 2.1 directly? what's with the busybox then?
Wow!

Confirmed working on 2.1 firmware.
SWEET! Can anyone kindly explain or write a tutorial?

I rooted with this program. So my questions are:
1. How to delete apps. I tried Root uninstaller and AppRemover, they say that the app is deleted, but it's not.
2. When i update to 2.0.2 will this root work again?
Will this work with the updated/latest eclair build no. 2.0.2.A.0.24?

Where can i find those tools? Or can i have the link and the tutorials as well?im new in android phone, so i rili need a guide.thank you in advance.
the way you root your phone depends on your android version. if you are using:
2.2/2.2.1, use either z4root or superoneclick (in my opinion, z4root is the easiest to use)
2.2.2, use gingerbreak
2.3.x, follow the method here (ignore step 1; the "super one click shortfuse" file can be found in the superoneclick thread i mentioned earlier)

Hey guys, i got my atrix earlier this morning and have been trying to root and unlock the device. While unlocking the devices was easy thanks to this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
got got to the end of it and my atrix says unlocked when it boots up which is great but i can't seem to root the devices i have tried a lot of the thread here, i won't be able to fix the ram problem without root .Could anyone help me out?
As far as i know there is no direct rooting method for 2.3.6 yet, ideally you would have been better off rooting 2.3.4 and using OTA Rootkeeper and then updating to 2.3.6. Shouldn't be long before someone comes out with a root method for your version.
hmm so i'm stuck with this for now? i came from a rooted milestone so i don't really know but i can't flash any rom for now right?
After a little surfing the guys down in Brazil claim to be rooting their Atrix phones running 2.3.6 using the SuperOneClick method i'm not sure if you've tryed it yet but it's worth a shot.
SuperOneClick thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
If you can't find a working SuperOneClick download link there's this one:
http://uploading.com/files/get/3mb694ea/
Edit: As for the installing of custom ROMs without root i'm not to sure about that sorry.
thanks a lot i'll try if it works
Edit: it seems that it is working you just made my day even better
edit 2: i got superuser installed but i can't seem to be able to delete/rename the install-recovery.sh as stated in the guide' i'll try to see what is wrong
edit 3: i am rooted and titanium back up works i'll take a break and figure out the rest later thanks again
Try using the root explorer in the ROM Toolbox app, supposedly some file explorers will not give you the proper access levels to delete or rename the files correctly. Read that in tayshun12's thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
GREAT it workeD cwm is working now and the ram fix is there i suppose ( i got about 500mb free annd around 200mb used THANKS AGAIN
now i have to try to fix the wifi problem
You're quite welcome glad i could be of some help
