Well, now that it's for the most part over, what were your thoughts on Nokia World.
I for one am not a fan of the Nokia 710 Sabre, the hardware is clearly high quality. However, the overall look and feel of the device looks too... HTC-ish. The 800/Searay on the other hand was simply astounding. I have no problem admitting that I was disappointed in the lack of a FFC, something that is rumored to be heading to the U.S. release but that still halts me from importing one. The rest of the device however, is awesome. The unibody is amazing, there's not a seam on the device. Even the glass seems to meld right in to the unibody. It's almost a work of art.
Another bit I was interested in was
The Nokia Kinetic flex display, bend your device one way to zoom in and the other to zoom out, there are numerous other applications for this but quite frankly, I just can't wait.
So, what do you think of Nokia's new offerings. They also released the Asha series running Series 40 which is an OS between smartphones and dumbphones to aid developing countries in accessing the internet.
Overall, it went well. I expected more things to occur that I didn't know in advance but I'm certainly not disappointed.
A little bit disappointed was hoping to hear about the ace, and no US release date.
The 800 is the one that looks like an ipod touch nano isn't it?
Well, the flexible phone could be excellent for hotheads. Girlfriend pisses them off, they can throw their phone as hard as they want against a wall and it will bounce right back to them.
hmmm. well, nokia is kinda garbage. and in my opinion windows mobile is the worst mobile OS ever conceived. lags, terrible UI. and we all know that nokia uses outdated hardware.

Get with the times. WP7 is better than all of them now. Android can't even compare to how nice WP7 is. Not even iOS, which bests Android for quality and reliability, can't even compare to WP7.
You're missing out on WP7.
So they've basically taken the N9 and bunged WP7 in it.
Woah, it can't handle arabic or chinese? Seriously?
Thread back, sorry about that
They have a giveaway for Lumia 800 at facebook. Probably not winning, but it's worth a try.
Oh, and the phone does look pretty awesome.

I think the Lumia 710 is an attempt at bringing a production version of the highly desired mockups shown a long time ago.

Honestly, I never was fond of those. They looked like the focus to me and though I like the focus, I wanted something new.
that bending screen and phone is a huge step towards new gen phones and wp is a soild OS , just needs time
Screw Nokia. I just found out the N9/800 isn't aluminum like I had believed. That was the only remaining thing in Nokia's favor and now that's gone. I won't even look in Nokia's direction now.
But me saying this should make Nokia more favorable to people who have hated them.

So over the last couple weeks I’ve been looking in to purchasing a new phone, and to be honest it has been pretty difficult deciding which new phone to get. As I’m sure everyone has, I’ve taken at the iPhone 4 and I have to admit that the apps and such that it offers are impressive. I’m not sure what it is, but there’s something about the iPhone that just doesn’t do it for me though. Instead I’ve been getting pretty excited, like others, about the upcoming HTC Desire HD and although information about the phone is moslty based on rumors I still believe that this phone will be phenominal.
The phone will supposedly run Adroid 2.2 which will allow the phone’s cpu to run up to 2-5 times faster with the OS. This massive change is just between 2.1 and 2.2 and with future Android updates I’m sure that the Adroid OS will only help the HTC Desire HD reach an even higher potential. From what I’ve seen of the original HTC Desire, this phone will be awesome, but if I need a phone soon is it really worth the wait?
Eh. Personally, I don’t think there’s anything HTC will be able to do to keep up with Apple and the iPhone line. Everything that it comes out with seems to be always a day late and a dollar short. The fact that there are barely any apps for the HTC and the fact that the iPhone has the full strength of many veteran app designers behind it means that the iPhone will always be better. My opinion, buy the iPhone4.
what does any of this have to do with the HTC HD2???

Lol this did make me laugh, I know Apple invented video calls three months ago, and gimmicky apps definately make a phone.
The fact they made a phone with a 1Ghz processor and lesser specs than a HD2 eight months after it's release. And less than six months before HTC are on the cusp of releasing a dual core mobile processor with a brand new OS. But yeah, you're right, HTC will never be able to keep up.

I wouldn't call it iPhone bashing, it's just stating facts, with a little sarcasm tacked on for good measure!
The only plus for apple is it's stability.
On the other hand Apple keeps their mobiles low spec, so less chance for errors/problems.
The thing that affronts me the most is the fact that Steve Jobs determines wether apps can be installed or not (remember the "nude" app?), although by this testing / approving of software the phone is more stabe, the manufacturer decides what you can do with your phone, really: Big Brother (steve) is watching you.
Exactly for that reason I do not believe it is a good business phone... it is a good n00b-phone.
Agree

I agree with Wilco on this one. I really do hate the fact that Steve Jobs has got his hand in everything little thing you’re able to do with the iPhone. A smart phone to me is almost like laptop nowadays, and for that reason I feel like I should be able to run anything I wish, whether it be stable for the phone or not. If it weren’t for that “affront” as Wilco says, I ‘d probably be jumping on the iPhone bandwagon with much less resistance.

Video calling that only works with WIFI and another iphone4...yeah thanks LOL.
I myself can say: I never have.
This phone does seem to have less to none downsides, I heard reviewers complaining about the backcover of the phone, a missing camera button and the Samsung hubs being messy (mainly the social hub which I'm looking forward to, as I like it being all-in-one).
On the other half the advantages:
1. Huge 4,3'' Screen
2. Super AMOLED Plus (less energy consumption, more subpixels (= sharper), better colors)
3. 1,2 GHz Dual Core processor (less battery consumption, more power, great overall performance, ability to record and play 1080p videos and 720p flash content in the browser.
4. Android 2.3.3; great stability and a zillion apps. Nothing more to say.
5. The phone's design. I personally like it.
6. It's a super leightweight, you won't even notice holding it in your hand.
7. Huge internal storage (16/32gb and the support of up to 32gb SDHC
8. Touch Wiz 4.0
9. AllShare
10. 8MP Cam and 1080p recording
11. NFC (not available in every region)
12. On device encryption (imporant for business people)
13. Other technologies for business people (Cisco stuff, VPN and similar things)
14. Multimedia monster (plays almost every file you can imagine)

Now Waiting for this phone is crazy... I hate the rumor mill of delays, it kills you then you get some joe schmoe saying, it was unconfirmed and it all dies down.
This phone looks really good specs wise and reviews have done it justice.
Well, I was eager ALMOST as much before my HTC HD2 was delivered ...........
Since the HD2 disappointed me somewhat I deeply hope the S2 will make it up ..............
The other phone which I anticipated so much was infact the HD2. That supermonster of a phone, after two years, is still a monster. The only phone that can dual-boot Android and WP7.

Hater, much?
The poll is obviously for fun aswell as the "15 - 45634562475."-stuff. Though I expect people who visit this subforum to be interested in the SGS2. Why not hype the phone abit that we're all waiting for? You can still present your opinion about the phone in this thread as I don't care if negative or positive but if you're just whining about others liking the phone then this is certainly the wrong area for you to be at.
Btw your critizising and whining makes YOU look like a 12 year old. Then again I'd like to know what you encounter to my "halfassed list". Bring it hater, bring it !
And yes, I love every aspect of this phone. If you're going from Samsung I8910HD to SGS2 this is a huge overall improvement, and there are people out there who switch from phones less good than my OHD, you should be able to imagine that those people really look forward to this phone.

I'm upgrading from a Sanyo SCP-8400 to the SGS2. You won't believe just how much I'm looking forward to this phone!!!
To answer the original question - there has never been a phone I've wanted more than this one. I was about to get an SGS when this was announced. There was plenty of debate before I picked that ahead of it's peers. Not so this time. There are no close seconds, no runner-ups, no debating among features to see which I want. Anything else would be a compromise.
No, I've never been this eager to get a phone. I haven't really anticipated the release of a phone as much as have videogame stuff. I hope that we'll see a released date soon, and then I can mark it on my calendar
I'm going to be upgrading from an HTC Magic.

I expect the price to go down to 500€ until release, some shops certainly will go down but then again I prefer wellknown sellers like Amazon who offer good service in case of warranty and return, i wonder if they would go down to something like 499,- aswell if another shop does (in the last 30 days or so the price went from 599,- to 548,50 which is the right direction but hopefully not all).

Can't wait although I'm hoping for a 4" to 4.3" screen version. Nokia Ace?
They're really pulling some iPhone like secrecy with the ace, the rumor is a 4 inch amoled though.
People keep saying Nokia is dead and all that jazz. Actually that's just stupid. The latest Nokia meego/symbian/whatever phones kinda suck in terms of internals and software, but they bring some decent build quality to the table. Sure Htc and Samsung don't make bad phones (not even considering LG and Motorola here), but they have their flaws: Htc ones tend to use amazing materials but are generally badly assembled (dust under the screen and such), while Samsung ones are put together very well but i'm not a great fan of plastic, no matter how much "high grade" they call it, plastic will always be/feel CHEAP. I really hope that Nokia steps up the competition with the next WP7 phones, possibly also using up to date internals. If they do that and ICS doesn't improve the situation in the right way, then next year i'll be totally sold.
Trust me, while I love Android I don't go shouting all over XDA how good it is. I respect other opinions but hate them being shoved down my throat.
I am not a fanboy of any os whatsoever, Android just suits me most atm, but I have a feeling wp7 will catch up with especially in regards to synching multiple services and devices.
So please, please, stop trying to convince people wp is Da Best and let people decide for themselves.
I'm really sorry for going ot, i'm quite curious regarding how nokia and wp alliance is going to work out myself.

Nokia is a very good and trusted brand. I'd love to see them come back. Problem they face is hw. There is no need for octa core tb ram phone to run wp, and while its a good thing, it's not very good for marketing when you compare components with HTC /samsung?.

there's no reason for most computers to run octa-core let alone phone, sadly hardware is android's selling point. I think as long as Nokia continues to put out the most aesthetically pleasing phones out there with the best cameras and outstanding battery life they're known for they'll remain relevant and boost wp7 to new heights.

I simply post my experiences as any user does. I'm certainly not one to post "wp is da best" there's enough of that in androids favor in every "google vs. ..." thread. My experiences and posts are reasonable and people tend to rage because my opinion does not match theirs. This thread is, however, about the only really aesthetically pleasing device I've seen in some time. The thinness and the shape that does resemble an old iPod nano is a refreshing change from Sammy's plasticky thick toy look and HTC's great parts haphazardly tossed together. I just enjoy the physical aspect, all OS matters aside. Even things like the nexus prime just don't look high quality hardware-wise despite internals.

i understand why you and some people would say about the size memory and ffc though for me i think the size is great as with my hd7 i did find my trouser pulled where is was so huge. ffc i dont think will get used anything like the amount ppl complain about it not being there. Mem is fair i would of wanted more but plus sides out weigh this.
HOWEVER not being aluminum is nothing but one of the best things to happen to this phone. Its a single moulded peice of polycarbonate so it will feel stirdier than any metal phone as well as having the advantage of 1. not showing scratches and most important 2 it does not mess up the antenna so your signal will be massivly improved. I do not get how anybody could consider this a bad thing at all but rather the best thing to ever happen to a phone.

yes when you can scroll though a grid of icons, yes i see thats so much better whilst watching your battery drain away.
My opinion is this is the best looking phone since the nokia 8850. That with amazing build and one of the best screens on any device makes this a must have. Then add the extra Nokia features plus the great camera not the best no, but up there and at a price point that makes iPhone look even more stupidly overpriced make this a true winner

How can I get one here in the US, and how do you like it on T-Mobile? What kind of data speeds are you getting?

I know it sucks esp as i am scrapping the walls already and i get mine in 2 days (one way or another) but if i lived in the USA i would advise waiting for the new year. I very strongly suspect they will bring a different version of the Lumia 800 with improved specs ie ffc and 32/64gb. I remember reading they said they will be bringing out top spec devices in usa in q1. I also suspect you will get a look in first at the 900/ace/champaign. Its a bit like htc with the hd2 you had to wait but you got the good stuff.
I just feel that unless you can afford to blow the cash for 2 months of use you will kick yourself for jumping in to early. Plus I dont think you get the full data speeds on t-mobile but that i am unsure of.
Sexiest phone with what I consider to be the best mobile OS. Yes yes yes!
Lumia 800 ROM
I just got my Lumia 800 from Telecom Germany, it has modyfied software for Telecom, start logo, special Telecom ringtones etc.
Do anyone know how to get the General Nokia software to the phone... ?
I would really like to "debrand" it.

it really is beautiful. amoled looks great at first sight. (on second sight the letters dont look "clean"). its really fast. compared to the titan it seems much snappier when scrolling trough the ui.
however its so tiny.. i cant imagine to use it for long web-browsing sessions.
also.. 16gb non expandable is a joke these days. With 64GB i would have bought it instantly. Being one sexy music player could be a good selling point..
so na i guess i pass on this generation of wp..
This Phone is just gorgeous! Got it yesterday and everyone i showed i to, was impressed about the build quality and about the design, even hardcore iPhone and Apple fans.
The N9 might have more features, but it is really expensive and it was dead before even released. MeeGo is dead, so i don't care about the N9.

It's the first in the word with that OS that is already dead so it will be the only MeeGo phone ever made...
Windows Phone is far bether than Android and it's balanced with the iOS (only loses in the screen resolution and Multi-core)

People just say this rubbish because its thein thing to say or like anything that results in a direct diss to Microsoft. It is a worrying trend esp when even with all there faults, and there are many, Microsoft is still the best option for most. At the end of the day it is the end users that miss out and we will all miss out big style if it continues. Even MS cant take this bad attitude towards it for ever and that will lend us to a world dominated by apple clones and/or software made in peoples bedrooms. I love android i love linux but could i live with just them all the time? Not a chance. Like it or not MS is leading the way in the tech world with everything from office 365 to windows 8 to xbox live to exchange to hyperV etc. What would the world be like without then? We geeks would be fine we have linux but what about my mum and my sister etc? what about me trying to administer our network without active directory and group policy? Everyone says MS steals technology yet we keep forgeting they are normally the first to come with it they just get beat down or mess it up but they ae there pushing forward and inovating. Windows phone is just one example along with Windows 8 of how MS is set to change the game for the better if only we let them.
Thank you my friend.
There are two major and two minor issues I have with this phone.
First is Pentile. There are two types of people - those who see it and those who don't. I do, so I was thinking about returning the phone at first. Now I'm sort of living with it, but still black text on white background looks like crap to me.
Second is no equalizer.
The two minor issues are the fact that the USB port is located on top of the device and that it has a lid. This is less annoying than Pentile but still very awkward.
Otherwise it's a great phone.
Based on past Windows Phones, etc and the Lumia's similar hardware to many Android phones, do any seasoned Windows developers think it is possible?
I'd buy the Lumia 920 in a heartbeat if it wasn't a Windows Phone.

I would assume that most people would not buy this if it was an Android phone
Unless the phone was actually released I would not expect any replies on this one.
Windows phone is much better then android. The only avantage of an android phone is the freedom of modification. Windows phone is much much saver and smoother then android and the importants thing is thay you can do EVERVTHING what android also can do. So its your choice which os you prefer but for ME and many other people its wp which makes the phone much more decenter.

Better yet buy an Android phone...
try on 920 android whene i buy it
Honestly I'd buy this in a heartbeat if it ran Android JB. Atm only the HOX matches this phone in terms of design and hardware but the HOX is a broken product. And to all of you who claimed that this phone will not sell if it runs Android: wake up from your fanboyism. Had Nokia made Android phones they wouldnt have been losing 3 billion euro in the last 18 months including the run of the first Lumia line. Honestly 18 months ago if you'd asked people who they would buy from: Nokia or Samsung or HTC, I'm very sure that most of them would have said Nokia. Why cant they just be like Samsung, HTC and ZTE and leverage themselves on several platform? They didnt even have to contribute resources to the software, just use stock Android and they would be selling like hot cakes. The answer is clear: Elope. This guy will come down in history as the one who brought Nokia down. Period.
And PS the WP doesnt even have the apps that I've been using regular: Grindr, Jack'd, Temple run, Pixlr-o-matic, ANZ goMoney etc. In many cases there's no equivalent of them. And the WP fan boys keep saying their app store is good enough.
Good luck.

Actually I am sure the phone would sell if it had android on it. But simply said it doesn't and most likely will not do that anytime soon.
Everyone is entitled to use whatever OS he/she likes. If the apps you have are only available for android, then bad luck, in my opinion you are missing out.
As however was already mentioned before, this point is completely useless and even though this post is only supporting that fact, I again would like to mention:
MODs, please close, pointless post at this point in time
Nokia slept waiting for some miracle (Symbian Something or Meego, or who knows) for too long while Apple and Android (more like Samsung) grew bigger and bigger. It was under the truck before Elop was in charge (why do you think the board accepted a new foreign CEO?). If anything happens to Nokia it is because of their own fault.
Anyway I expect the 920 to really succeed, it will be great to have more players in the market. If it turns to be 50% as good as it looks, then I will buy it.

Actually after several years on android I might change to Windows. I noticed that since I have the freedom of doing so much personalisation on my android I'm never happy with how it looks and performs - I might as well try something new. Nokia is synonym for stability and performance (talking about the hardware) and I'm really looking forward to the camera. Off all android-specific apps I only really need one: google music - and that works by using Gooroovster.

Yes true everyone is entitled to use whatever OS he/she likes to use, but look at how the WP fanboys trash the OP just because he/she asked if there's anyway to use Android on this device. Who provoked who first?
And the only thing Im missing out is the the NOkia hardware. I really dont give a rat's ass about M$ and their OS. Actually I consider it one of the main disadvantages of the phone.
And why close this thread? Isnt this a development forum where people come together to solve software issues? Im pretty sure this was never meant to be a trolling/ comparing thread. Some fan boys just need to chill out/ abstain from posting inflammatory comments and let people who have the solutions deal w it.

I agree, people should not get angry for such requests - everybody is free to ask for what they want. As you already said, the hardware is what I'm missing out as well, and who knows... I might even like Windows 8!
Mods, can this thread be closed ? This is going to just attract trolls.. and we know how we hate that here..
Obviously Nokia should be running Android. That's working out great for Samsung, right? Let's be realistic here. Aside from the money Nokia got from Microsoft for adopting Windows Phone, it's the better OS, on virtually every level.
I can say that objectively, too. I've had every major Android phone since the HTC Magic, including every Nexus device, and the HTC One X. I currently use a Galaxy Nexus. I've also had two Samsung Focuses, and a Nokia Lumia 900. I loved the OS. Absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, there was always some glaring flaw or glitch with the hardware that wouldn't let me keep running WP7. For instance, the Nokia I had (replaced twice) kept having issues disconnecting my calls for no reason. Kind of a problem, since I use my personal cell for meetings all day. The touch screen also annoyed me, as did the fit and finish, like the not-quite-flush SIM tray, and the rattling vibrate. No big deal, they've fixed most of that now, and I hear from a Lumia 900-owning friend that it's perfect.
Unfortunately, the Android game isn't going to last forever. OEMs are starting to realize that Google is never going to come to bat for them, and that running Android on all of their flagship devices is costing them a tremendous amount of time and money in legal battles. With Windows Phone, they pay a licensing fee, and Microsoft OWNS that OS. If they get sued over the OS, Microsoft is obligated to step in. Hardware is a different story, of course, but that's easy enough to overcome. If the Marketplace was up-to-par with iOS and Android, I don't think we'd be having this conversation. If WP7 was released a year earlier, that would definitely be the case. Thankfully, the Marketplace is getting much better, thanks to the likes of Nokia, and I see Samsung and HTC starting to help out in that arena.
Sure, Nokia is still hemorrhaging money. That may get fixed with time, or it may not. Nokia may go away. Thing is, if they had gone with Android, they'd be risking joining the same boat as Samsung. Sure, Samsung is on top of the world in smartphone sales, but how much of the profits they've earned do you think have been turned around and put into legal battles, R&D for redesigning hardware and software to get around injunctions, lost sales from injunctions, etc? Obviously they're still making a pretty solid profit, but I can guarantee you that that number is FAR higher than they're comfortable with. MeeGo could have been a real contender, but when you're really the only OEM building with the OS, it's hard for people to make that choice. Regardless, MeeGo is (unfortunately) gone now.
I, like many people, figured that Google was biding their time, waiting on just the right time to come to bat for Samsung and HTC, fighting off Microsoft's licensing fees, and Apple's ridiculous lawsuits, but they still haven't. Google is simply sitting back, waiting for the patent system to collapse instead. Problem is, even if that DOES eventually happen, it's certainly not going to be any time soon.
Do you think the OEMs don't see that? Do you think they don't care that they're being left out in the cold, to fend for themselves, while Google is reaping the benefits of their one-sided partnerships? Then, the second one of them tries to make a move to separate themselves from the Android pack, they get slapped on the wrist by Google for it, like the recent case with Acer. I notice that a lot of manufacturers are pulling out the stops for their WP8 offerings, where their WP7 offerings were mediocre (at best), even by WP7 standards. Going from the Samsung Focus to the Samsung ATIV, for example. Pretty epic stuff is happening, and I don't think it's entirely coincidental. I'm sure that some small part of all of these OEMs hopes that WP8 takes off, so that they can have a significant amount of marketshare in an environment where there's not such a constant legal risk.
I think that the Android ecosystem is going to start getting a little shaky in the next couple of years, especially if Microsoft can bring some more apps to the table for WP8. Let's just hope Nokia lasts that long, and Microsoft (and their customers) don't give up first.
Disclaimer: I realize that this is a pretty strong point of view, especially coming from someone who is enough of a fan to actually own Google and Android apparel. I'm not saying this is going to happen tomorrow, but I am saying that this is going to happen - eventually. Feel free to disagree with me, that's fine. Feel free to flame me about how much better Android is than Windows Phone. That's fine, it's your opinion. This is mine.
And, you know what? I'll give up all of these marvelous apps I have on Android to have my Zunepass back. Every single replacement I've tried on Android (MOG, etc) sucks. Give Windows Phone a chance, people. I can pretty much guarantee you'll like it a lot more than you think you will.
And, lastly... Sorry for the rant!
920 with Android!
Who is mad enough to buy that?
Nokia specs are nothing to be compared with Samsung and Apple LG HTC
So again why would anyone buy this limited phone with Android where there are S3/NoteII and HOX/+?
Its just a pointless request... Sorry to say that OP

Nokia Specs are nothing compared to who? Obviously someone has done no homework. You must be one of those people.
That phone is a flagship phone with flagship specs. If I didn't have a contract less than a year in with my carrier, it would easily be my next phone. I was running Mango on my HD2 and it was smoother than any phone I've owned. Windows Phone8 should be a major player as long as it is shoved in everyones faces. Unfortunately most people tend to listen to the idiot next to them instead of researching and learning on their own(apple fanboys). Nokia Lumia 920 side by side with the iPhone 5 compares favorably. Next to the SIII it still is inline spec wise. The difference is in operating systems and App Markets. iOS, Android had a big head start, but Windows is catching up fast. The UI for Windows is on par with iOS and already surpasses Android(due to hardware fragmentation). The Windows market lacks the number of apps that Andoiod and iOS enjoy, however I'm not a big app fan and most Windows functionality is built right into the OS. Go to the Nokia Website and do a little snooping around and you'll get an eye opener. The only reason someone(cotulla) put android on the HD2 was because there was no other phone with those specs at the time. You want Android now buy an Android phone.

That's exactly how I feel too. The bad thing with being able to customize android is that I'm always looking at trying to make my phone better but am never really happy with it. I change ROMs all the time and I'm constantly waiting for the devs to update something or release something new to make my phone better, yet I'm never really satisfied. I think I'd like WP8 for the fact that I know I won't want to swap ROMs or do anything special with it because it'll run like butter out of the box, not like with android.
i don't get this whole 2 and throw android has some great hardware but let down by software. the real question shouldn't be can android run on lumia but more can we port windows phone to say the htc one x or even the one x+ I really don't get why a company that supports both os's don't just put both on the same hardware so you could buy either variant. Now that would sell like hot cakes!
