Ok. Check this out... When trying to dictate a text message using the microphone, it always says "No Matches Found." I made sure settings were set to English U.S.
Rebooted phone- Same thing
Cleared data on the "Voice Search" app, then Reinstalled "Voice Search" from the Market. Reboot. - Same Thing... "No matches Found"
Tried using the Google Search bar on the home screen - same thing... "No Matches Found." Occasionally it may spit our the letter "ct".
Here's the weird part. Using Vlingo, I can dictate a memo, or call a contact with no problem. Just never selected the correct contact when you want to text via Vlingo.
Any Ideas? This phone is STOCK. I have another SGS2 running Cognition X Beta-4.. no issues.

Hello,
I'm not doing well with the integrated voice dialer. It is nice that it is free but not very accurate ( have about 400 contacts and often it just tries to dial stuff on in my contacts). I also get frustrated it dials the wrong number without verification that it has the right number.
The MS command was very accurate. It might seem crazy but if that is made by a third party, do they make a droid version? I'm very new to android so I appreciate the info.
Try Vlingo. I find that it is generally more accurate than the free google voice recognition.

+1 for vlingo. I feel the same way about MS Voice Command, in comparison to the stock voice search on android.
Thanks - I just tried VLINGO - maybe I don't have it set up properly. I want something just MS Voice command where I press the button on my headset and it I say "call john doe at mobile" and it properly selects the name from my contacts and then says "call john doe on mobile" and I say yes and it dials.
VLINGO kept on coming up with on screen prompts. I don't want to look at my phone while I'm driving.

The first time you trigger it (by holding the search button), it will ask you some crap. Just go through that once, and it won't do it again. Next time you hit it, it will just pop up a screen that says "Listening..." At that point just say, "Call homer simpson mobile" and it will do so. It has been remarkably accurate for me. And you can even have it do other things than dial (send text to..., etc.).
Overall, I like it about as well as MS voice command, and it does more.
Also, no need to hit "go" when you're done speaking. Just wait a second and it will figure it out. The less interaction with the screen, the better, in my opinion.
Thanks - I think my mistake was setting it for vlingo inCar. I still could use your help a bit further. I don't know how to have it give me a verbal confirmation vs. on screen. I also don't know how to have it search my contacts and not the web/yellow pages. When I'm calling via BT, I know who I want to call.

I haven't used it, but here is how you setup verbal confirmations: open the app, click menu, settings, click advanced, and check "text to speech (beta)."
I've never had mine search the web. Are you using "Call..." or just saying the person's name? Try saying "call peter griffin at home" instead of just "peter griffin" and see if that works better for you. There must be a setting to disable that, because I've never had it search the web when I was trying to dial someone. However, I don't use it with bluetooth very often.
Dave
It's doing the same thing for me when I try to call a contact, if I don't say @ mobile or @ work. If I say @ mobile or @ work then it works pretty good. The deal breaker for me is that while using it if I hit the call/end button on my bluetooth it just shuts off the bluetooth earpiece and doesn't hang up the call like the standard dialer does.
I have a person whom i need to send a text message to. I have removed him from my contacts (to troubleshoot this crazy problem). When I text him, by going to my phone icon on main page, then type in the phone number, then click the third icon (yellow icon with envelope), it then automatically adds a +1 at the start, puts dashes in the number, AND adds "[email protected]" (the dns address of our network (I added the quotes). Then when I type the message and hit send, it shows as "sending" but never ACTUALLY sends it.
I have searched for this number in my contacts list, also using "Power Search" that I purchased, and I can't find his cell number at all (i have REMOVED him!).
If I do the above, but before sending, go back up into the number field, and edit the number back to straight cell#, a pop up appears "Converting to text message..." and then after finally putting the cell# back in, this time it doesn't auto-re-format the number, and it goes as a text.
NORMALLY, to text/sms, I would just go to my contacts' entry, then click the "envelope", and presto... send. But, for THIS contact, the same thing happens as above (thus the reason I deleted his contact info to troubleshoot).
Thanks for any help!

Do you store your contacts on the google servers?

yes, all my contacts are google (sorry, forgot to mention that).... i don't have any local contacts in the phone itself (at least i don't think so), and i also have contacts in facebook (but this guy isn't on my facebook at all)...
You can use a secondary messaging app like handcent or go sms pro, and see if this happens again. Just a wierd problem!

I've been playing around S voice and it's worse than the standard voice command android comes with. I was trying to find the app for it but could not. Only S voice was in the applications. I saw it is installed under "manage applications" but I can't open the application. Can someone help me find the file to run the standard voice command app? Thanks.
Couldn't agree more. I used the stock "Voice Search" app on my last phone to send text messages ("Text [CONTACT] message [MESSAGE]"), and it worked great. "S Voice" is pitiful. Has a tough time recognizing my contact names, and doesn't even pick up spoken punctuation.
So to bring back the option to use the "Voice Search" app, I just uninstalled the one that came with the phone (version 3.something), and then reinstalled from the market (which currently has version 2.1.4). Was able to find it in my app tray after that.
One caveat: I'm rooted, and uninstalled using Titanium Backup. You may not be able to do it from the "Application Manager".
Hope this helps!
Yeah I removed it as well. I found it too slow to respond to what you say. Anyway voice command doesn't really seem that useful to me. If I set an alarm using voice I would be paranoid and check the alarm was actually set.
My phone is synced with both a Google account and an Exchange account. I have contacts on both and can see them find in "Contacts" application.
However, when I use Google Voice Search (the little microphone on home screen) and say Call Bob or Send Text to Bob, it does not work. In the stock ICS rom, it used to do random stuff like searching web for a random business. I've since flashed Houstonn's JB ROM. Now I see that my voice command is transcribed perfectly i.e. when I say Call Bob Buster, I see the text "Call Bob Buster", but it just says Contact not found and gives me a link to "find contact". If I use that link and type in Bob Buster, it finds the contact.
So, the transcribing is perfect, plain text search works, but they using voice search to dial does not work. What gives? Same thing happens with Google Contacts and Exchange Contacts.
Any one else encounter this? Any workarounds? Thanks in advance.
Voice Control Works
Sorry to reply to my own post, but after I posted the above, It hit me that I should try another voice assistant that uses Google Voice Search engine/api. So I tried the Voice Control (Test). I've tried it in the past with stock ICS ROM without much success. However, in the JB ROM, it works great for almost all my contacts. So, it appears that the voice search engine is greatly improved in JB, but the the app/interface is some how broken.
I guess I'll go pay $1.99 to buy the full version of Voice Control.
EDIT: --Further Info--
First, I just figured out that there is an "Edit" button on this forum, so didn't have to make a new reply. Sorry about that.
I guess I was on a roll. After posting above, it occurred to me that there is an "offline voice engine" in JB. So I made sure that the offline data is downloaded and turned off wifi and mobile data. Voice Control just plain stopped saying no network available. May be it wasn't using the API properly. But here is the surprising part. I can now call many of my contacts with the call command just fine now (Google Voice Search).
So, I've tested turning data back on and same old problem of "can not find contact". I've repeated this 2-3 times. Same contact can be called when I am offline (no data), but not if I am connected. I guess Google is doing something funky when I am online?
Google Search Update Feb 13
The Google Search update on Feb 13 appears to have mostly fixed this issue. I am at 50-60% success rate in dialing my contacts. But the contacts it previously transcribed correctly, but couldn't find in my contacts are now being transcribed incorrectly. Oh well, I guess it is a step in the right direction.

Just curious, but when you hit the mic button, then tap the menu button for settings, there should be an option to check phone search. Select phone search and see what options are checked off. Make sure contacts is ticked and anything else you want search to look through. If you've already done this, my bad!

Thanks for the pointer. I didn't know about the settings option after hitting the mic button. All the proper things including the Contacts are selected for search.

You may want to try Google Now instead of just voice search. If you're on ICS there are a couple hacked versions around. If back on JB, it's probably already installed. Make sure it's on/active. I've been getting pretty good search results with it (including contacts) and I'm on Slick ROM v6.

Hi there.
Is there any hotword for Google Now to navigate to a contact's address? I mean something like "navigate to John", and it shows directions with Maps.
And, why, when I say "call *contact* " , does it return to me "choose which one of these you want to call", with many contacts with the same name?
I tried with one contact which I assured to be ONE in "Contacts", and not many of it.
