[Q] Video recording, what fps rate? - HTC EVO 3D

I'm seeing conflicting information regarding the 2D video recording, some info states that the Evo records at 30fps, but I've also seen 24fps mentioned. Also seen mention that it records at 720p, then also 1080p. I'm confused!
Can anyome confirm either as being correct?

Anyone?

Here is a great review about out HTC EVO 3D... Look at the Camera paragraph...
http://www.techtree.com/India/Reviews/Review_HTC_Evo_3D/551-116000-614.html

Thanks for the lnk to the info.
The phone can record 720p video at 30 fps. The clips are saved in the MP4 format, which is a big improvement over the Sensation's 3GP. The resulting clips are pretty smooth and contain a reasonable level of detail. Additionally, stereo sound recording is a nice feature. Strangely, despite having a dual-core CPU under the hood, the phone cannot record video in 1080p. As before, recording videos in 3D produces fun results

Just got back from my local Carphone Warehouse, they have the Evo and the info show on the display say's '1080p video recording'.

[THINK TANK] 720p encoding on nexus. DONE NEXUS ONE FTW

GOT 720p clearing up the hack a bit and will release it most probably tomorrow
sorry for the confusin

here is the image
now thats the kinda stuff im talking about !
lets get some effort on this, gonna start digging thru the source now..
it would be awesome if we can get this working !!!!!!!!!!!
Everytime there is a new post, I check this thread, sadly its just motivational comments. If this happens though, we will have one more thing that makes the Nexus and even better phone.
Btw guys, the sensor is definitely capable of it. Like mentioned by the OP, it's just the encoding that is holding this up.

What is the problem with the encoding to start with? I would much prefer to use the h264 codec to record video to start with, why does using it crash the camera app?
I think it would be better if we could get a constant bit rate for the video recorder instead, just like on the Milestone/Droid, rather than the frame skipping in indoor light conditions.
I also hope one day we can get a better audio format rather than 8kHz AMR in our video recordings :-(
But this is a good initiative anyway..

Thats exactly what I'm looking for in terms of fps. Made a thread requesting someone add the ability to records at constant 30fps and from my testing the framerate only drops when recording indoors or in low light conditions. The indoor lighting slows everything down but out side it records perfectly and smooth. If we can get that fixed by an android pro that would be great.
As for 720p I still think thats a hardware limitation somewhere in the lense or motherboard. If it was hardware possible, how come google didnt include that from the start?

Just want to second this. The audio quality is pathetic and makes it useless for recording voice. It is one thing I miss from the iPhone. I'd assume that changing the audio codec and bitrate wouldn't be too hard for a good dev (which I certainly am not).
Records VERY well in ideal outside conditions, shot this the other day:

Haven't tried low light, but that is using MoDaCo A21 Desire ROM.

Yes I know it works well in outdoor lighting - the point was that it skips frames indoors.
From my experience of playing DSLR
the skipping in dim environment is probably because of insufficient CPU performance. When the light is dim, slower shutter speed and higher iso is required to obtain proper exposure, thus increase the noise. More cpu resource is needed to perform noise reduction. Then if the cpu is not strong enough, it skipps
If you take photos you know when you use high ISO and noise reduction at the same time, speed and the maximum frames of continuous shooting is usually affected.
So from my view, if we cannot improve the algorithm of encoder to achieve higher efficiency(which I think is quite difficult), then force disabling the noise reduction might be a way to solve this, although the video will be noisy...
just guessing...
along with this i was also working on 30fps and 44khz sound. the max fps i could get indoor was 26, couldnt test outdoor. i am testin the sound now. Hey and 30fps is a go but 44khz sound causes fc, will check the logs. Uploading a 26.176fps video recorded on my N1. IT STILL skips some frames but the limit is lifted from 24fps stock android
Great ...
I will try it out
BUT
Your screen shot says 720 x 480 ??
That is not 720p ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/720p
The 720 refers to the height, not the lines
What you have is what is commonly referred to as DVD resolution (although really only for NTSC, as PAL is higher).
Incidentally ...
The Desire camera on the Nexus One can record at 800x480, but the I think it does it at 15 FPS and crap audio. 720x480 at 25-30 FPS with half decent audio would be very cool
Yes currently only 720x480. First trying to get decent video at this resolution. Then will move to increasing resolutions.
wow
480p to 720 p is a big jump
it's 2.67X data to process...
Nexus has the capability to do that, try recording a video on ur phone and see how fast it processes a 480p video. IDC if it takes a bit more time to process and if it can decode it it should be able to encode it. 528mhz magic 32a can record 640x480 so it should be possible for nexus with a far far better processor to atleast to 720p
anybody have the exact specifications of the nexus one processor, info about GPU and stuff, the problem on 720p is the excess load on processor which makes it hang and reboot

This is what i could find in terms of info

Not sure if it helps.
I also get the FCs with H264 but not with H263.

[Q] Camera FPS

I know the camera records 1080p at 30fps, but I was wondering if it records 720p at a higher frame rate such as 60fps? I have been searching but can't find an answer anywhere so hopefully someone with the phone can enlighten me!
Already set on getting this awesome phone next week, but recording at 60fps will be the icing on the cake, cheers!
actually if any phone today can do its the sgs2.. now all we need is some modding..

HandBrake Settings

Anyone know what settings to use to convert a DVD to a video file to play on the EVO3d at the native resolution?
http://www.knowyourcell.com/htc/htc...deos_and_transfer_them_to_the_htc_evo_3d.html
I only partially agree with the article. When i convert the files i keep the source resolution. Even my Evo 4G could playback .mp4's that where natively 1080p. And before you start the "its screen cant playback above a x b resolution...", think about this...u can output upto 1080p via MHL/HDMI or DLNA. Additionally if you convert them to the maximum of the Evo 3D screen, what are you gonna do next year when your next phones resolution is higher?
Second, while its true it will playback .mp4 or .m4v...use .mp4, as DLNA streaming wont see .m4v files (old ones can just be renamed to .mp4),
Also, avg bitrate can be fine for some movies, but especially in action movies, it tends to leave slower parts of the movie in poor quality imo. I usually use constant quality and play with the setting til i get about 1.5GB or lower files from 1080p Blu Ray.
The above has worked out well for both my Evo 4G and Evo 3D

Damn it's great to see you here Myn!!
Well i'm curious, what CBR do you end up using? 1500kbps?
Reviving this old thread since I can't seem to find a newer one that discusses HandBrake output for the EVO 3D.
I just received my HTC MHL adapter, and it works quite well. However, I've noticed that my video quality tends to vary quite wildly by video when displaying on my Sharp Aquos 37", despite looking fine on the phone.
I'd love to know what HandBrake settings people are finding work best for MHL output.

HD video recording..... Really ??

Do you think that x10's video recording at 8.1HD cam is worth of a HD video?
I disagree.... Because indoor videos are never clear and it can never capture fast videos!
CheersS!
From X10i on ROM : "T.E.A.M. v3.5"
using XDA premium
It is HD, albeit not the greatest video recorder. I've seen a lot of video recorders that are worse. 720P video recording via the X10 is a lot sharper in comparison to 480P recordings. Image quality is definitely improved.
HD doesn't automatically mean super amazing video, there is a lot more that you have to take into consideration. How is the image processed, FPS, bit rates, lighting camera sensors and so forth.
See my comparison below for 720P vs. 480P. Shot with two different X10s, one with the 2.1 update and the other on 1.6 (these were recorded long ago).
480P
720P

Video quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the Huawei Mate 9 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Anyone else notice a jitter in video recordings? I have several recordings where I see jitter.

what firmware are you on?
it is jittery. not like iPhone
Haven't noticed any jitter recording 4k videos. In fact they are much better than my Samsung S7 edge ones. Thanks to h265 codec used and much more portable and storable.
A video of my dog by night. Original video is at [email protected], but it seems the preview doesn't support it:

yes, my phone jitters when playing recorded videos. it looks like its very sensitive to movement or no stabilization?
***jitter is gone after recent firmware update tho***
I have jitter in 4K video recorded with my mate 9 , too
Huawei can fix this problem with next update ?
I think its software problem.
