ROM Manager problem - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've reloaded rom manager onto my Fascinate. I was going to download one of JT's kernels but it doesn't show anything for the fascinate. It shows roms for the S I9000. How do I change the device it will list for? I've tried reloading it and it does that every time.

I take it your on a eh09 rom... if so you need to manually install jt's kernal via cwm. Honestly I would run far far away from rom manager jmo.

I'm on Pool party but it's been like that for a while I just haven't worried about it. I know I've been on MIUI and then to EH09 PW (yeah I'm a flasher). I don't really remember when I noticed it but I can't fix it.

If you're on pool party that means you're running a kernel with jt's latest commits within your current kernel. In others words don't flash a jt kernel it might end up being older than what you're running now
good day.

But how do I fix it? I've reflashed back to Resurrection 1.1 so I've done a complete wipe. I've reinstalled ROM Manager and it's still giving options for only GalaxyS i9000.

Rom manager on touch wiz and pool party will serve you no purpose. When you first open RM you should have been doing "confirm phone model" as Samsung Fascinate (MTD). And agree to having installed cwm 3.????? or what ever it says. But once again the latest jt kernel on RM is v6 and he is arbitrarily up to v11 almost. RM comes in handy for someone running CM7 and gets the nightlies. I use it personally as my own polish theme engine on pool party. Install rom from sd option and choose one of my own badass themes and I let it do its thing.
good day.

Chopper, that's my point. When I first load RM it asks to confirm phone model and has 2 options. Both options are GalaxyS i9000 (one being MTD), no Fascinate. I would just like to have it working in case I went back to CM7.

I told you why...any eh09/ei20 rom is not verizon, so when you are on one of those roms it will come up as i9000. You need to odin back to a verizon rom for rom manager to show your device as a fascinate. Again I would stay away from rom manager anyways. It just causes more confusion that its worth. Yes it works ok for changing nightlies on cm7, but your better off manually flashing in cwm.

Thanks, I didn't understand that part. I'll leave it alone then. Thanks

GB Kernel Issues

Okay I've posted about this before, but still can't figure it out...
My issue is this: When I install a GB rom, everything runs fine until my screen goes off.... its even fine if it goes off for a second, but if it sits for more than one second it reboots. A full reboot. I've tried both GB kernels, as well as MR 2 and 2.5. I've also tried using setcpu to set the minimum all the way up to 1.4GHz with no help.
Can someone help me fix this screen off issue? PLEASE?
Seems to have something with the dip in processor speed because when my phone is downloading from the market or signing in to google, or doing anything for that matter... the problem doesnt occur.
I don't really accept that I can't use Gingerbread because of this... there HAS to be a fix.
Thanks yall
What gingerbread roms have you tried? Also, what kernels were you using?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
don't have this issue on Synergy 3.0 running the latest ziggy kernel
I've tried every GB rom on here, as well as both kernels
also, Ziggy kernel? You in the right section?
I would try wiping, then installing the setup in my signature, but don't restore any apps at first or sync with Google so they're downloaded automatically. I think that you've got an app and a kernel that's interfering with one another. Try the ROM bone stock before you start restoring apps and see if the problem is there.
Rooted Thunderbolt on BAMF Sense 3.0 RC 4 with MR2 radio and latest dreamKernel.

when you say both kernels are you referring to the radios? cause mr2 and mr.5 are radios not kernels

I share your pain with this exact problem. I have been doing all types of testing these last two days to see if there is any combination of ROMS and Kernals that would work for me.
I can flash any ROM I want, and the only Kernal that I can successfully use is this one:
Imoseyan GB Stock Kernal
With this Kernal, I can use my phone all I want, let the screen go black, hit the lock screen button and I have never had a reboot.
I have run Thunderstick, BAMF 2.1, BAMF 3.0, Gingertheory, with this kernal and it will run fine.
When I change to any of these Kernals, I get the constant reboots when my screen goes off, just like the OP described.
* Imoseyon Lean Test
* Imoseyon 184mhz
* Imoseyon USBfix
* Imoseyon 2.5.3 test 7
* Nerozehl's dreamkernal 2.3.2
Of course, when flashing any ROMS and Kernal combinations, I would do a complete wipe before doing so. I should also mention that I am using MR2 radio. I can also use MR2.5 with the GB Stock Kernal and it runs fine.
So like the OP, it seems to be something to do with the kernal that my phone does not like and can't figure out. Anything other than the stock kernal, and my phone will constantaly reboot after the screen goes black.
I should also mention that I have used the speektweah.sh in terminal emulator and tried all of the different voltage settings and it had no effect. Also disabled it and tried using SetCPU and no luck either.
I have also tried all of the ROMS without allowing any apps to update by skipping the google account sign in. So basically all of the ROMS were running in their native state, and the outcome would be the same.
FOR THE OP
Try running the stock kernal and let us know if that works for you. You should just be able to flash it in CWM, reboot and you will know right away if it is working correctly.
The real question I need to figure out is this. What is different about the GB Stock Kernal from all the others that would be having this impact on our phones?
I've tried all of this except installing the above kernel. I'll give that a shot, thanks.
As for installing without apps, I've tried that. Tried everything. Lets hope the stock kernel works!
I've been running Das BAMF Gingerstripped with Imo's kernel and never had this issue. It sounds like maybe something is bad with the cpu profiling becoming unstable when screen-off profiles kick in.

I can confirm that this one worked for me too. Synergy 3.0 running Ziggy's Kernal and everything works well.
Anyone know where to grab just the Kernal? Can't seem to find the latest download.
I should also add, that when I do flash the Stock GB kernal so that my ROM will be stable.... my camera freezes everytime I try to take a picture. Happens in every ROM I mentioned above. However, it works fine before I flash the stock kernal.
running "stock kernel" it looks to be fixed. Looks like I tried this before as I already had the file but.... works now for some reason
Thanks.

DarkyROM 10.2.2 on T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Vibrant (T959)

I will show you how to flash DarkyROM 10.2.2 on your t-mobile vibrant, after the following steps, you will have superb battery life, and everything is working except GPS.
Update Nov 12/2011: new steps, easier then before!
I had previously installed CM7 on my t959, however I am not happy with it because:
1: GPS not working
2: Battery life is so bad... won't last a day.
Follow these steps to flash DarkyROM 10.2.2 on your T959.
(by no means this is a guide and I am not responsible if you brick your phone or cause any damage to your phone)
1: following this link to install DarkyROM 10.2 RE
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/odin-darkyrom-10-2-resurrection-gt-i9000.4272/
2: install I9000 vibranted vG.3.0b kernel using CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299185
3: Install KB5 modem via CWM. see attachemnt.
4: Install DarkyROM App from the market
5: Download DarkyROM 10.2.2 zip file, put it in the root of internal sd card.
6: in DarkyROM App, deselect kernel and modem (so it won't overwrite your T959 kernel and modem with i9000 ones), then select install zip from sd card in darkyROM app, if asked give root permission to darkyROM app.
7: After phone rebooted, flash the key update zip mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299185
Done.
BTW, GPS not working, otherwise everything works.
Notes:
darkyROM 's modem is not compatible with TMobile or Mobilicity's AWS band, so you need a tmobile modem. here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868774
you cannot directly flash the modems using odin (always stuck in my case). So use this tool to convert cwm mode from amend to edify:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903598
I used KB5 modem, then flashed the converted modem via cwm...
You need to install a i9000 based vibrant (T959) kernel, otherwise you will have not audio.
Please report back whether it worked for your or not.
thanks
BTW, the following attachments are converted edifying scripting modem file (KB5)
(I flashed KB5 unsigned below via CWM)
I haven't tested other modems, I picked up KB5 just because it is new.
No issues now
No issues now...
ok, on Darkyrom 10.2.2 a few days now, superb battery life! I was able to use the phone for 1d 12 hours without charging. Compare to CM7, the very same battery won't last a day/
solid battery life... my battery life is just terrible, im on cm7 as well, if someone could get the sound working on this i would rock this rom... i just have to have audio... i listen to alot of music at work
I've re-read this post twice and still don't know what the hell they're talking about.
They're talking about selling crack rocks in a darky room with sound proof walls that runs on batteries

I had that problem too. It turned out that after I flashed darkyROM 10.2.2, I following the instruction below to fix keymap problem:

So I revert the change and rebooted my phone, home key worked.
So, make sure you did NOT do any keymapping change except the volume up/down fix mentioned in post #1.

DarkyROM 10.2.2, with T-mobile Vibrant & KB5 modem, confirmed working, nice work
I installed DarkyROM 10.2.2 resurrection package JVT-Base-I9000.tar today.
Followed your guide converting the KB5 modem zip to edify format.
With the kernel from DarkyROM ([email protected] #DarkCore_4.1.JVT) I had no internal speaker on phone calls (but speaker phone worked).
Changed kernel to Talon-SH-T5s_VIBRANT.zip and now I have internal speaker on phone calls.
Nice work.
Thanks man.
Glad I helped!
How is your battery? last longer?

[Q] best current rom?

Sorry tried a few different roms and coming to wits end
Just wondering which of these is a good stable rom
Tried most recently cm7 and miui the ran good but GPS was wonky at best
Always had to reboot to use
Just wondering what would be a good rom with decent performance that GPS works with.

I think GPS works in Bionix, it is a 2.2 rom by team whiskey. I have never tried it.
I was using cm7 and miui, I liked both, smooth and fast, but minor issues like constant reboot required to get GPS to work. So I'm back on stock deodexed/rooted kb5. GPS works ok, but definitely better than on GB.

In my opinion it doesn't get any better than TeamWhiskey Bionix-v 1.3.1 with Tigers BLood Kernel.
I'm running that. TeamWhiskey has never failed me.
i was on RevolutionRom JVP (gingerbread) with clockworkmod recovery, and i TI Backup'd.... manually wiped data, cache, dalvik, and then installed the simply honey zip file from recovery, and it wiped for me automatically (which was expected) and now during its boot screen where it says "powered bay talon sh kernel", the phone simply goes into a bootloop.
so now my question is, how do i go back to bionix-v (froyo) from the gingerbreaded bootloop? would i have to odin back to stock or something?

ya, it's... im also on MIUI, as 2.3 is the only os with proper copy past.... its just hard to get past the hacked drivers....
as far as the gps, i picked up a bt-gps brick that gets 1m accuracy, i can sit up in the window and works great... cost me $20.

ICS rom to test?

Hi, i've been awaiting the arrival of ics patiently, more specifically CM9. What i'm wondering is if there is a decent version that is easy to install just so i can test it out, as i have not even seen it yet other than half our roms trying to imitate it. I see all kinds of bogus on the international forum but i'm not about to try and install one. I would just like to backup my rom, install, test and flash back UnNamed. Thanks.
None for I777 until the official I9100 release - call audio and buttons will remain broken until kernel source exists.
I suppose if you wanted to you could flash the CM9 alpha for i9100 just to mess around. Make a backup of UnNamed . Flash and Hellraise a i9100 ROM- I used Criskelo ROM. Then i made another backup and flashed CM9. Its booted fine and was able mess around. Pretty smooth overall. Texting and wifi worked. But like Entropy said, audio and soft buttons are broken so don't plan on making phone calls or using all your apps. Then just restore your backup of UnNamed to get back to your happy place.

Just be sure to read the OP and follow the instructions .. you'll have to flash the GApps and face unlock.. other modems available too. All in the OP of the CM9 alpha i9100 thread.

And do NOT flash one of the releases that includes a PIT file or any that includes bootloaders (boot.bin or Sbl.bin) - you WILL mess up your phone with those.
PIT flashing will be very difficult to recover from, bootloader flashing can hardbrick you.
I have tried each release of cm9 for the international gs2 as they have come out just for kicks and they run great. Just have to use the home button as a back button and the Mic doesn't work.

I have done a couple things here, 1 is I used mobile Odin (which does NOT flash bootloaders) and have installed and tested two of the i9100 Samsung leaks. I have also tried EVERY version of Team Hacksung ICS just to mess with it. I even have it Android backed up.
Now for the IMPORTANT PART before you do either of these. First off I am on CM7 so maybe that has made it easy/easier to do these testing.
1.MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP of your rom.
2. DO NOT FLASH ANY OF THE SAMSUNG LEAKS SINCE THEY HAVE BOOTLOADERS. I ONLY DID IT SINCE I USED MOBILE ODIN WHICH WOULD NOT FLASH THE BOOTLOADERS.
3. The third thing (or first priority for me at least) was to already have a version of my current rom (cm7 in my case) that I extracted the rom, changed the UPDATER-SCRIPT which is found in META-INF/COM/GOOGLE/ANDROID/UPDATER-SCRIPT by ONLY removing all the first lines that deal with get-prop. Then I backed out and rezipped the complete rom. Moved it to my sdcard just in case my Android didn't work.
The Team hacksung ICS is really nice and I just wish audio on phone calls worked. I could live with the HOME button being a back button for a bit and the menu button as menu without the other two buttons. Fun to try but don't blame me if you mileage doesn't work the same as mine. I have not tried it from any other rooms than cm7.

[Q] Problems after flashing my phone. Help!

I have a bell Galaxy S2. Today I rooted it and after hours of confusion, I finally managed to install resurrection remix 4.04 ICS on my phone.
So far I've run into tons of issues:
1) No GPS
2) No wifi (stuck on 'obtaining IP address, unlikely that this is my network's fault)
3) No software buttons, so I can't multitask (have to use task killer to kill unused apps right now)
4) Rom Control crashes everytime I go into the Navigation bar page
The phone in it's current state is useable, but I will go back to stock settings if I can't fix these problems. Maybe there is a better ROM out there? Though I heard resurrection remix is the best one. Also, could it be that I installed the wrong kernel? The one I installed is:
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5
Can somebody help me out? Any tips would be appreciated.
EDIT: I just realized that USB connectivity (file transfer) doesn't work either - not even in clockwork menu!

Sounds like you might have flashed the wrong kernel for your phone.
did you first check what was the original kernel on your phone? acutally, run me through your root process so i can figure where you went wrong, because the Resurrection remix rom is just about perfect
I know it was KG2 kernel originally. Don't remember the other numbers.
I'm now on a different kernel because when I used KG2, the phone wouldn't work at all (the buttons were screwy).
The process went something like this:
1. Rooted KG2 kernel installed
>Phone still works like before, but rooted
2. Put Res remix rom on my phone's storage
3. Go into clockwork recovery
4. Flash/Recovery
Format /system
Wipe Cache
5. Install ROM from SD card - twice (since the video I was watching told me to do it twice)
>Phone turns on but the buttons don't work so I can't navigate menus
6. Install CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5
>Buttons sort of work now but lots of problems
>All of my old files/music are still on the phone despite all that format/recovery stuff. Is that normal?
Now when I try to install KG2 kernel phone doesn't even turn on. If it helps, the phone currently tells me the baseband is I9100MUGKG2

Ok, some good news.
I installed the CF-ROOT KG2 kernel.
I went into recovery, formatted/wiped everything that needs to be done. (Then USB connectivity began to work!) so I put a 2.3 Cyanogen Mod on there and now everything seems to work (USB, WIFI) except for the home button. I still can't exit out of applications.

Why not start with a working phone + a nandroid backup before you start playing with roms .
Stock rom + CWM and root kernel = Nandroid backup .
